More Clinton 'spin'

Posted: Tuesday, February 05, 2008 3:39 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell and Andy Merten
In the Clinton campaign's second conference call with reporters in the last two days, communications director Howard Wolfson said -- at least four times -- that "the results tonight will be inconclusive."

"The results will be inconclusive. Sen. Obama will do well in some parts of the country; in other parts of the country, Sen Clinton will do well. So this will be just another step, although a large step, on the road to Denver and choosing a nominee."

Asked if there won't be momentum and bragging rights coming out of the returns, Wolfson joked: "Sure, whoever wins New York can be declared the winner."

He then went on to MEGA-spin outcomes in Massachusetts and California. According to Wolfson, Massachusetts right now is "tight as a tick," and since Sen. Kennedy has what he called a "machine" -- without mentioning the Boston mayor's machine working overtime for Clinton -- Wolfson said if Obama doesn't win Massachusetts it will be a "disappointment." In fact, Clinton has held a double-digit lead in most Massachusetts polls up until now.

Similarly, he tried to suggest that if Obama doesn't win California it will be a "disappointment" because of the Maria Shriver/Oprah endorsements and campaign events -- even though polls have shown Clinton with a solid lead in the state until now.

Wolfson said the California campaign will be close, and he suspects it will be a very late night. He pointed out that Obama has put considerable resources into California and has had great surrogates.

Wolfson also made the campaign's latest argument that Michigan and Florida delegates should be seated, and when asked about the other Democratic candidates didn't even have their names on the ballot in Michigan, he said: "I think they removed their names from the ballot because they didn't think they would fare well."

And he announced the Clinton campaign has accepted a FOX debate on Feb 11th in Washington DC that would  air on local FOX broadcast TV in DC/Virginia/Maryland suburbs, prior to the voting there on Feb. 12. Wolfson said that Clinton and Obama should debate once a week -- from now on.

In fact, Clinton said this herself in an interview with an affiliate TV station this morning. "I think we should debate once a week, because we're just getting down to the two of us. That's only been the case  for the last week. And there are a lot of differences between us that need to be explored, and voters need to have information."

OK boys, next article must be about the Obama spin machine. Oh, thats right, he doesnt have THAT, he is
GOD!! Or maybe hes just a male.
Oh that evil, nasty Hillary woman and her spin machine. None of the other politicians have spin machines. Only those Clinton people. Get over yourselves boys.Give me a break!
OMG- give me a break- Clinton will try any and everything- to win

Seriously?  Is this seriously want we want in the White House?  The most powerful position in the world?  Occupied by this lady?

No.
I read......we need to tie Obama down conducting debates (which Clinton feels and has somewhat proven she is better at) instead of freeing him up to campaign in the remaining states....advantage Clinton political machine.  What a great trap.......
Heh, both campaigns tried to 'spin a loss into a win' ... I guess its a good strategy
Wow, the exit polls must be pretty bad.  Not surprising that a candidate with no momentum and little money would request free media with a weekly debate.  We see this in every election when there's a desperate candidate who is behind.

Handwriting on the wall?  Sounds like it.  Put a fork in Hillary, she's done.
Bottom line, News is not good for the Clintons right now and going forward. They had anticipated to get this thing locked up tonight but it looks like that will not be the case.
It is amazing how people like to say the media has more negative stories about the Clinton campaign than on Obama's. Maybe that's because of the Clinton campaign's tactics. For them to say the others took their names off of the Michigan ballot because they felt they would fair well, is an out right deception. More so than any other camp, including Romney's camp, this has to be the most dishonest, games playing, rovian bunch of low-lifes we've seen during this campaign. No wonder the people who know them best, choose Obama.
Ugh - such a fatiguing campaign. Clinton as the underdog in Massachusetts and California? I've heard less credible comments from this campaign, but really - stop insulting us. And more debates? Haven't we already had something like 400 of 'em?
Obama should be win Massachusetts going away.  He has the support of the Governor and both Democratic Senators.

Clinton may have had a lead in earlier polling, but the media never seems to mention the undecided in these polls.  Undecideds have been as much as a third of the Democratic voters in many states, so earlier polls shouldn't bear much weight.
Great,Obama/Clinton weekly debate...Iraq's not going away. Hillary has accepted more donations from Military/Industrial Complex lobbyists than ANY other candidate. Her spin on Iraq, her Iraq vote & her Iran vote is flimsy.
Debate once a week? lol

Who wants to hear "I'll form a bi-partisan committee", "35 years experience", and "ready from day one" once a week from Senator Clinton?

I'll pass on that. I think we've heard enough.

Obama '08
so Clintons are the only spinners? you guys are a huge joke! your bias is sooo obvious. are you supposed to be that way? crappy journalism is in the air............
From the article

Wolfson also made the campaign's latest argument that Michigan and Florida delegates should be seated, and when asked about the other Democratic candidates didn't even have their names on the ballot in Michigan, he said: "I think they removed their names from the ballot because they didn't think they would fare well."

Do they really think anyone is going to buy this lemon of a statement?  It makes me think that he's surrounded by 10 people who can barely suppress their laughter when he utters this nonsense.
After tonight the Clintons will not be able to dictate when, where, or how many debates will take place.
MI fact:  Kucinich and Gravel both kept their names on  the MI ballot, and like Clinton did not pander to Iowa voters by making a big show of pulling off Michigan.

Notice how neither Edwards or Obama were brave enough however to do the same in FL.  In the back of their minds they new FL might become important to them down the road, like it becomes for Clinton.

Look at the facts, skip the spin people.
we need michigan and florida in the fall if we democrats are going to win the white house back. so we have punished those states enough we need to seat their delegates.
Give me a break. Enough already. The Clinton camp is as dishonest as it gets. Are they running scared? Tell them to get a grip. We know BS and spin when we hear it.
Give me a break. Enough already. The Clinton camp is as dishonest as it gets. Are they running scared? Tell them to get a grip. We know BS and spin when we hear it.
The Obama campaign should say no to the debates and hit the campaign trail hard.

It is amazing the lies that pour out of the Clinton camp. "They didn't think they would fare well?" Did anyone call them on that BS?
The suggestion that candidates took their names off the Michigan ballot because they didn't think they'd fare well is deplorable. I cast a vote in that primary and I'm disgusted at the way the Clintons continue to try and spin Michigan into anything other than a moral victory at best.

If delegates from Michigan count anywhere before a final candidate is chosen, it will be inexcusable. Our state government knew what it was doing (screwing up) when it moved up our primary. We took our punishment like adults. It's Clinton that's behaving like a child if she pretends that contest was anything close to fair.
Wow, voters who don't like debates and instead prefer big speeches.

I wonder why any voter would NOT like to hear the candidates actually debate the issues?
hmmmmm.... interesting....
Hmmm...I smell something fishy from the Billary camp. Why suggest a weekly debate if you are the front runner? This is the oldest trick in the book and when Obama reject their silly request, Billary will go on TV and say Obama does not want too debate the issues but we know better.

Give Obama and the American people more credit than to fall for the old bully let's debate every week argument.

Could this be the beginning of the Obama Tsumani...could this be the year of the underdog....Oh Yes!

Go Obama Go
The bit about seating Florida and Michigan delegates is ridiculous beyond words. They would really try to do that rather than respect the wishes of the voters and the DNC? They would tear down the party rather than concede defeat? This bunch really needs to go, and fast.
I live in Michigan and will be very upset if they seat the delegates to Clinton. Let them have another vote, maybe then the other candidates names can be on the ballot !!! How can she think that was a win, there wasn't anyone else to vote for??? I stayed home.
NO spin.  Just the media having their way.  As usual.
hang on to your hats obama supporters...Its reported that clinton has 2/3 of the absentee ballots thats been counted in california.
Uh oh, the Hillaryites are on to me and my master plan to keep her out of the White House.
They had better not use the delegates from Florida and Michigan.  It would be grossly unfair, especially since Clinton was the only name on the ballot!  Is he kidding?  I guess that's how much he cares about Michigan's right to vote.  As far as them removing their names because they didn't think they'd do well, give me a break!  Hillary Clinton better get out right away and say Wolfson is totally wrong on this.  The more I hear the more upset I get.  Play fair!  Better yet, don't play - voting is extremely important and American soldiers have died for this RIGHT!
do not be fooled by a rookie salesman...that's all he can do talk...no action so whatso ever..remember his "present" vote for than hundred times..we can afford a nominee like this rookie salesman...
I don't like Hillarity either, and would never cast a vote for her, but you call this "unbiased" journalism. You guys take the cake. Why not just stop posting or publishing anything that doesn't praise Obama? it would save us all a lot of time.
i'm actually offended to hear Clinton's camp spin their campaign.  Obama's camp has always conceded that Clinton is the front runner and Obama is playing catch up.  To hear Clinton's spin, Obama has always been the front runner and she is the "NY Giants" of the NFL.  OH MY..bleh..disgusts me.  Enough of spins..i'm ready for the results to come in ... tomorrow or later
wake me up when and if Nader decides to officially run so I can vote with my head held up high
[[Oh that evil, nasty Hillary woman and her spin machine. None of the other politicians have spin machines.]]

The Clintons have the Mother of All Spin Machines. There is more bs coming out of that camp then there is on Old McDonalds Farm.
"I think they removed their names from the ballot because they didn't think they would fare well."

Shameless.  Just Shamless. The Clinton Camp's ability and willingness to distort obvious facts is very scary.  Very Rove-like
So what he's really saying is, their nervous right now b/c Hillary should of and was supposed to have this thing sewed up and ready to go right now!!!

It would be a disappointment for Hillary's camp and for her supports if she doesnt win b/c she has been the frontrunner for months.  For the underdog to come from behind a take the nom from her - that's what would be a "disappointment"!!!

I'm tired of hearing her camp "spin" everything.  Just let some things be and speak for themselves.
Obama insults Gavin Newsom for fear of being seen as pro-gay rights. What a despicable act?

He insults San Francisco mayor for the freedom we stand for and expects our vote? All Bay Area democrats should vote against someone who doesnt have the guts to stand up for the freedom we pride ourselves with.

Not only gays and lesbians but also respectful freedom loving Democrats should snub arrogant Obama.
Wow. Isn't this election about letting voters have their sole say, without any hint of intimidation or interference with the will of every voter?
Plenty of candidates in the pasthave tried to intimidate America in the name of democracy. That has to ed. Give the voters their right in making up their decision without ever being influenced in any way.

Keep in mind Jeanne, that you need us, “nasty Hillary woman and her spin machine”, in November to beat whoever the Republicans field. Watch what you say because the knife cuts both ways.

Obama can not win with out the Clinton people and Clinton can not win without the Obama people in November.  Watch what you say!

While it is great that the choice democratic voters have is between two very viable candidates, it is quite alarming that people are voting with their heart and not their heads. Call it what you will but this is scary.
At this very critical time in our country's history where we are faced with major crises from the war in Iraq to the economy, from healthcare to the mortgage meltdown and a looming recession, the american voter really needs to think hard and make that difficult choice.
While I have heard Senator Obama and his platform, I have not heard anything specific to address the issues at hand. Yes, he can bring people together but sometimes, a true leader can only bring about real change with unquestionable experience, the ability to make tough decisions, withstand criticism and still keep focused on the issues for our greater good.
Senator Clinton is that person. Her detractors call her so many things but they lose sight or are refusing to recognize the fact that she has done more than Senator Obama in areas of healthcare, education, defense and economics.
Personalities aside, she is the most capable candidate to lead us out of this mess we are in right now.
Oh PLEASE if you follow Obama you might as well slaughter your self now and save the republicans time later.
I think that right now the Obama spin machine is in full effect and the media is his tool.  Why is MSNBC running Obama ads?  Why does Obama get all the favorable press on MSNBC.  What Lapdogs?  From Morning Joe, to Tucker Carleson to Chris Mathews. MSNBC makes sure that Kool-Aid drinking voters hear at least 7 to 10 straight hours on negativity against Clinton.  They wont even get unbias pundits on the shows instead we get Star struck, Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd, and Ed Shultz who all hate clinton and it shows.  Its sad that the media picks our president.  Sounds like 2000 all over again!!!
Obama lacks experience when it comes to finances and health care. Clinton has both. When it comes to Iraq neither one can get us out quick enough, but we have Bush 2 to blame for that one. Women should vote Clinton, they may never get another chance to put a woman in the White House. Certainly Caroline Kennedy isn't ready, besides she's talks out of both side also, she's for public schools and sends her kids to private school. Ted Kennedy, remember Mary Jo, remember the Smith Rape trial. Great endorsements only come from real people. The middle class and poor.
I heard they will split the Michigan delegates because she was the only one on the ballot and that she will get the Florida delegates-she won fair and square. The DNC does not want to have to deal with it during convention as it could look ugly.
ATTENTION OBAMA SUPPORTERS---

This is a smoke screen intended to lull you to sleep and lower your turnout. She did the same thing in New Hampshire.
YOU NEED TO VOTE, THEN YOU NEED TO HELP GET THE VOTE OUT!!!!
Are you people crazy?  I don't want to risk our country to Obama.  People have unfairingly catagorized the candidates into boxes.  Obama being the second coming.  How can intelligent people be caught up in hype? I trust our country to Hillary.
Does anyone anymore believe Andrea Mitchell is a journalist?

She wakes up every morning to twist words out of Hillary. MSNBC assigned her specifically to Clinton campaign because Andrea can lie with a straight face and being a woman, no one can say male bias. I have seen so many Andrea interview which smacks of yellow journalism. She is one of the worst as a wolf in a sheep's clothing making money thru deceptive journalistic abilities.
I love all of MSNBC's "up until now" - well it isn't like it happened overnight, it was over period of weeks - which was after many good weeks for the Obama campaign. Don't get me wrong, he has been doing well, but MSNBC is acting like their spin is so dramatic.
It is about time that we realize what a deceiving, and unscrupulous woman Hillary Clinton is, she is blind with ambition and will say and do anything to become our president. Haven't we had enough scandal and immorality with Bill during his presidency. Please no more Clintons in the White House. Let's start fresh and hope for a better America with Barak Obama. God help us all if Hillary is elected.
Sure Clinton would love to have a bunch of debates because she is about out of money , and is after the free air time.

Obama should give her one debate and get back on the road to the White House.
