Obama's significant number of red state wins demonstrates his ability to unite Americans across political parties, while Hillary's 4 red state wins shows how polarizing she has become and how difficult it will be for her to win in November should she win the nomination.
Obama could have won California had it allowed for caucusing and not primary balloting, or if voters had not voted too early enough for them to get to know him.
who said Clinton cannot win red states?
Why did you put clinton on the bottom. She received more vots than anyone and more delegates than any one. She won Mass. The home of Kennedy and Kerry who shamelesly campaigned for Obama. She won CA handley. She won the most important states. Obama won some states that DEMS do not have a chance to win in a general (low hanging fruit) FOX news and CNN had objective coverage tonight. MSNBC was back to promoting Obama every chance they got. Way to go Hillary!!!!!
If Democrats want to win in November, they'll choose Obama.

Otherwise, it's "Hello, Pres. McCain."
With due respect, the issue is TURNOUT.

Contrast Obama red state wins with McCain blue state wins.  McCain's NY, NJ,IL wins, e.g. are 'nice', but are in states in which NO Repub has a shot at carrying in the fall.  His vote totals are laughable fractions of the totals cast in those states.

Now, compare with Obama's red state wins.  In MO, CT, GA, for example, the Demo total votes cast dwarf those of the Red Party.  I.e., democrats attract more voters, by far, than do republicans, in typically repub states.  Why?  What is it that attracts MORE voters for a D in a R state?  Hmmm.

Likewise, Huckabear and Helen Reddy draw blue in blue and red in red.  Huck can't beat Obama in GA, MO, SC, IA, or his other 'win' states, EVEN THO' they are traditionally R states.  Similarly, Mrs. Clinton wins in MA, NY, and CA.  Okay.  But can she win in the midwest, the south, the west?  Flatly, no.

It is indeed back to rock/paper/scissors.  Obama beats McCain; McCain kills Clinton; Clinton can, it appears (by hook or crook), beat Obama (probably).  'Democrats':  Republicans have scissors.  Do you want paper or rock?  The answer is in the hands of saggy breasted women.  Ladies, would you prefer to give us eight (provided he lives that long) more years of Johnny "Hundred Year War and Don't Unner'stand the 'conomy" Mac or are you team players?  Your sons and daughters deserve a fair shot.  Suffragette City can wait.  With dur respect.
We've now had more than half the vote take place. Clinton and Obama are essentialy tied, although Clinton has more super delegates. In the next week, Obama is predicted to even the score, including super delegates. This is going down to the wire, but Obama has the momentum. Clinton gave a signal of fear when she called for a debate per week yesterday.  As long as Hillary doesn't try to validate the vote of Michigan, etc (the states that were penalized for advancing he timetable of their primaries), Obama looks like the winner in the end. then again, I would bet that the Clintons try to pulls some stings to ignore the rules and allow the delegates of Michigan, etc to be counted.  I know some will diagree, but I think this move is equivalent to cheating. You can bet the farm that clinton will try to do this, but it's going to hurt her in the end. Expect Obama to capitalize off Clinton's desperation.
So Romney won more states and more delegates than Huckabee, plus he won in different parts of the country with different demographics, but Huckabee is the stronger of the two?  How does that make sense?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with a McCain-Huckabee ticket against my candidate (Obama).  But I just don't get the press' take on Romney v. Huckabee
"In the unlikely story that is America, there has never be anything false about hope."    ---Barack Obama
If I were Obama's strategist...I would use this data a couple of wsys

1.) In a General I can win both Red and Blue states I am the more electable

2.) I won more states in Super Tuesday

3.) Depending on how the delegates ultimately turn out I would concentrate on how I eroded the double digit leads and I am the candidate with the momentum
One of the many things that we see after tonight is that Obama has a broader appeal to those in the red states and therefore has a better chance at defeating the Republican nominee in the general election. Onto Feb. 9th!
Obama wins the delegate battle and Obama wins the state battles.

Go Obama.
What an amazing day in American politics.
A republican maverick, McCain, not only survives a brutal assault by the fringe of his party and comes out victorious, but the blessed one, Romney finishes third behind a resurgent Huckabee.
This has got to be puttin' a smile on Limbaugh's face.
Huckabee who but for 3% or so in South Carolina & Missouri would have swept the southern primaries.

On the democratic side what can be said.
As little as three weeks ago most Americans were convinced that today would mark the coronation of Hillary as the democratic party's presumptive nominee.
I recall how Chuck Todd just last week told everyone that the "spread" for todays primaries was 100 delegates for Hillary.
What a difference a few days & weeks makes.
Eight weeks ago Hillary was up by 20% or more almost everywhere.
As late as last Friday Obama was only supposed to win two states.
Illinois & Georgia.
What a difference a few days makes.
As the Hillary campaign readily concedes, the upcoming contests in; Washington, Louisiana, Nebraska, Maine, Virginia, Maryland & the District of Columbia greatly favor Obama.
We could well be looking at a race that is close in delegates but in which Obama will have a 2-1 advantage in total # of states won this time next week.
The outcome from tonight while not quite certain, is likely to reflect an almost complete equal split in terms of delegates won between Obama & Clinton.
Who would ever have thought it!
The next few days will go a long way in determining if this tie from today slows down Obama's surge in national support or if it, in conjunction with these next few contests puts Obama on the road to winning the nomination in Ohio & Texas.
Time will tell.
What a difference a few days makes!
Ok most of the younger collage age.  That are rallying around Barack Obama.  Either have no sense of history.  It was not long ago when we had eight years of republicans in the White House from Nixon to Ford 1968 to 1976.  The country jumped on the band wagon of a liberal Jimmy Carter.  An all what he said is what Barack Obama is offering.  It failed them and will fail yet again.  Recession high interest rates, taxes raised and instead of securing are borders.  We will be more threaten.  Just as the fiasco with the Iranian hostages in 1979.

Hillary is by far the better and more sensible choice.   She is not the liberal others claim her to be in all things.  She is liberal in areas that require her to be and conservative, even hawkish in other areas.  Yet the extreme right has spent 15 years pushing and fighting against the Clintons.  That now the greatest mistake and tragedy is going to happen and history will repeat itself.

So for those of you voting for Barack that are older then first time voters and can go back to the 90's, ask yourself this question.  Were you better off in 1999 then you are today.

For the new first time voter and other young vote.  Ask your parents or grand parents on how life was in 1979 after going through the OPEC crisises, gas shortages, recession and high interest rates.  An of course the high taxes.  That led to the Reagan revolution of tax cuts.

So those in the rest of the states, just look and do not be caught up with the delivery and not look at the substance behind it, which is scary and even lacking.
In the Colorado caucus, the Democratic turn-out dwarfed the Republican turn out which was a mere fraction of ours and ours was almost 2 to 1 for Obama.

It was also many times over what we had ever experienced before and, by far, most of the new caucus goers were there for Obama.  We were swamped at all of our locations, even though we had planned on a good sized increase.  Months ago, when we reserved our sites we couldn't have known we were talking about going from hundreds to thousands for our group caucuses that put many precincts into one big building.

The Obama effort was organized and massive relying much more on grassroots volunteers than mere robo-calls.  We also got mailings with lots of information, often including caucus locations, every day for about two weeks leading up to the caucus.  Real people, neighbors called and went door to door and our weather has been much colder, much more often than usual.

If they can get out the vote in the general like they did for our caucus, Obama is the surest ticket back to the White House the Dems could possibly hope for.  We are exhausted but pumped! Colorado LOVES Obama and has an army of dedicated, wildly enthusiastic volunteers from teens to seniors ready to work for him through the general.

We have closed caucuses, registered Dems or Republicans only with no last minute registration allowed. Many of those calling to get Dems to caucus for Obama were independents and even a significant number of Republicans who couldn't caucus for him themselves but are volnteering in hopes that we Dems will give him to them so they CAN vote for him in November.  This candidate is a winner.
"We are the ones we have been waiting for."  Barack Obama after winning the majority of the states and the delegates!

This man, this campaign is transforming the nation!
we can not have a learn as you president maybe in 4 years obama might be ready ,maybe. clinton or mccain is usas best bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is obviously clear Obama will win the presidency due to the fact that that %80 of the black minority are going to vote for him because he carries the same color - how sad that is - and not for his experience - is this racial? Quit truthfullly  - I never heard of the guy until the news came on saying all who and who was and running for the presidency - same as the Bush and Kerry era elections - as for this election it does not matter if the candate has a grade 3 or a PHD - How sad it is for America - all that maters is if it is a 1st black man or 1st woman.
Obama is winning Republican states, Hillary is only winning Democratic states.  This shows who can draw from the eventual Republican nominee.

I am usually a Republican voter, but I switched to Democrat this time to vote for Obama in hopes that the Democrats would have a reasonable nominee.

IF Obama is the nominee, there is a good chance I will vote for him; If Hillary is the nominee, I will vote for, and maybe campaign for, the Republican.  I know that there are plenty who feel as i do.  Probably the red state Democrats who voted for Obama felt teh same, knowing how some of their Republican friends feel.

It looks more and more likely Mr McCain will get the presidency.  America is not ready for a black or female president.  It is a military democracy and so set up for white male former military heroes..
Democrats - It is a jump ball and looks like this will go to the convention.

Exciting politics.

Go Barack Obama!!!
Your lead election analysis story by Jim Kuhnhenn (AP) has says, "She also won Missouri, a hard-fought bttleground that serves as a national political bellwether." C'mon, MSNBC, Obama won Missouri.  What's up with that? Are your colors showing?
Just to let everyone know... I think we will have our first lady president!!!
You are not going to deny the winner of CA, MA, NJ, NY, Fl, MI, and most likely PA, and TX, the top of the ticket.

It is that simple.

You would have mutiny if you did.

On another note Clinton won the majority of the total votes cast yesterday, the "popular" vote so to speak.
Political rhetoric heat intensifies. Wining candidates are of no use to America. Send them to China so they can use their "hot air" to de-ice that country. Chinese economy needs to be thawed out from present natural deep freeze as soon as possible so the Chinese can continue to loan us more money to service our rampant political mismanagement of the USA.
The results of Super Tuesday already indicates it will be politics as usual with no change.
For the democrats, it seems to me that the most significant vote of the evening was a Clinton win in Massachusetts. With both Senators and the Governor endorsing Obama, he still lost. I think that is very significant. I wonder though, given the media propensity to overlook any Obama negatives, if it will get much web and air play?
As one looks closely, one sees a political base shrinking.  A feeling of sinking begins to set in.  With the field pretty much set, but the roles not yet clearly established, the scuttling crew is still held at bay.  As much as we and these candidates may desire otherwise, there will be a demand to release an attack to "fix the blame." And it will come from those who feel that their influence is now waning, and the ship they've been sailing for quite a while and loading with political favors has sprung a leak.

Beware of Pirates who will steal your good nature and leave their mean spirits behind.  We deserve better.  We've been an attack mode too long.  We should have leaders who want to build bridges not walls.  E Pluribus Unum, not E Unum Pluribus.
Obama did INCREDIBLE!  9 redstates for Obama to 4 redstates won by Hillary!  14 states total to Hillary's 8!  We need to look to the future America!  We don't want another stolen election in November.  We need to start looking towards solidifying a democratic presence outside of the traditional blue-states.
GObama 08!
Senator Obama represents the future of America, we need a united America not a divided one based on Age, ethnicity, gender or party.  Look at his gatherings, it is trully an American gathering.
The results are encouraging for both sides as the possibility of brokered conventions looms larger.  Hold onto those delegates folks, its gonna be a bumpy ride!!
how may delegates did everybody end up with??
Hillary also won NH
If Obama won Missouri, can you tell me how Clinton was awarded more delegates at 15 to Obama's 6?  This whole delegate thing is confusing.  Please help!
Big night for hillary. She took on the Kennedy's, MSNBC, Oprah, Maria Shriver, etc. She won all the major states. She won more delegates in New Mexcio, tied in Missouri, and almost the same in Conneticut. Obama won, Kansas, Idaho, Alaska, Georgia, Alabama, all the states who always vote republican.
Clinton is ahead by almost 100 delegates - give her the credit she deserves  - in spite of MSNBC trying to persuade the electorate on Obama she continues to persevere - Joe Scarborough and Chris Matthews need to grow up and stop acting like children   - they are supposed to report the news not interpret it !!
Everyone look at the states breakdown..... Obama has won 9 red states, do you think that his message is reaching more people. As a democrat we need to look at this telling SIGN- if WE WANT TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE .... BILLARY IS NOT HOW.....
obama is the easier target for republicans to defeat come the election so they're breakig party and voting him in. Hillary, we need you. barck is full of dreams and that is all they wuill be. he only tells people what they want to hear and not a fraction willl come true. heought to be ashamed but he is gaining legitaimate voters too by doing it - hillary, please begin to speak the same and be nmore charasmatic in your speeches and go after him in your speeches to prove his talk just to be hogwash. If not I am moving to australia - this country will be weakened beyond repair if obama gets in office. he will be pushed around by the world causing us to look lie a joke  - he doesnt understand what presidnetial power means - he is only trendy at the moment. hillary, become as trendy. start talking about change yourself and what washington needs and lead the debates. criticize ongoing policies and speak in REALISTIC terms of new policies to come and what they'll actually cost the public. ick up the pace - as a white male in the middle of birmingham alabama witnessing TV reporters ask black voters who and why they voted > they say "obama, because he is black" - hillary, you have to defeat most of the male and black voters and regain some onf thewhite vote = this is a racial election from my TV's standpoint, from my Birmingham News standpoint - regain the white vote. it isnt ribght  for us non-racial and unbiased voters to have to know there are those in the 21st century that are still voting on race. it is their ignorance to elect someone for their race when they know he isnt a leader. he is a dreamer and a talker of things they want to hear. Call him on it and ask him "how" on his policies.Go hillary - you are our only chance for a president of change to lead us.
$19 million advertising during superbowl!
Stars endorsements and their stump help!
Powerful Massachusets endorsements!
Press endorsement!
Well Well Well!
CALL TO ALL OBAMA AND CLINTON SUPPORTERS. I am guilty of this crime but it's time we unite. I have been thinking, I love Hillary but don't hate Obama. Let's unite. We both love our candidate but our candidates are better than any republican. Let's stop bickering and make sure we support a DEMOCRAT for president. This has been a long time coming. We have a chance to dominant finally. Let's make sure we don't give the Republicans breathing room. Let's keep it civil and make sure Hill or Barack wins in 2008.
I would not be unhappy with Hillary but I do believe Obama is more electable especially against McCain. This country needs a break from the Red zone.  The inspiration and hope he provides is sorely needed.
This is the most exciting race for the presidency in the past 20 years, bar none.  Actually since JFK.  I believe mainly because it appears that America is now more interested in ideals rather than "big deals."  We are more interested the higher ground, rather than the lower road.  The idea of changes is deeply felt by all and it crosses party lines, gender lines and color lines.  Will it be better?  Who knows, but the change in the winds truly can be felt.
I think that while we, the public, could say that Super Tuesday resulted in a tie for Clinton and Obama. She won the two large states, CA and NY. He however, won more states, 13 (Obama) to 8 (Clinton). With that said, in the event of a tie, the edge would have to go to Obama, because Clinton had been the odds on favorite since the start of the campaign season until only just days ago.
Kind of depressing the Democratic vote broke down along race and gender lines. I hope it was a wake up call to the youth of America that unless they turn out and vote, it will be eight more years of Republican rule. All I know is, this 49 year old white northeasterner is coming out to support Barack Obama February 10th.
There are no "red" states in a Democratic Primary season.   They are all "blue."

A Democrat wins these states during the Democratic primary season every 4 years.
The only states Obama won with exception for Illinois are all caucus states where his supporters bully and intimidate others to vote for him. This is bad news for him because there are no caucuses in the general election.
All of you non believers will see in the final call that OBAMA speaks a message of truth. He advocates what our goverment should be. Those like minded and seekers of truth see that. AND obviosly there are a lot of people that think and feel the same way. He has not had to depend on money from lobbyist for a cause, his campaign is funded by the PEOPLE, that in itself should tell of you none believers something.
Obama's surge? It's funny that Uncle Ted and Aunt Caroline called Obama back to Boston on Monday to campaign, with Uncle Ted, Aunt Caroline, John Kerry and Duval Patrick sitting as a backdrop---and Obama lost Mass. by 200,000 votes!! Obama had wanted to campaign in Calif. on Monday, but Uncle Ted, Aunt Caroline, and Sen. Kerry called Obama because the polls were bad in Mass. and their prestige was on the line. So, Obama obediently flew back to Boston on Monday, all in vain---he lost both Mass. and California by wide margins.

It's interesting that everywhere Uncle Ted and Aunt Caroline campaigned for Obama, he lost. It'll be interesting to see if Uncle Ted and Aunt Caroline continue campaigning for Obama. They'll have to---Obama's their boy. Aunt Caroline has adopted Obama as the heir to her father's mystique--she can't quit now.

Oh please.  Enough of the crying about any bias you seem to perceive.

Clinton won Mass. because endorsements no longer mean as much as they used to.  With the explosion of the internet and satellite/cable tv, people are able to get the information to make their own decisions now more than ever before.  Mass. voters, and voters around the country, voted the way they did because they made their own decisions.  Not because of any endorcement or media bias.

Ron, TX (Sent Wednesday, February 06, 2008 8:23 AM)

Yes, nine red states that he won't win in a general election and most of those simply because they were decided by caucus and not a real vote of the people.  Dream on - the slogans are getting tired and the preaching by Saint Obama is getting old.
PLEASE UPDATE OBAMA'S TALLY OF STATES- HE NOW HAS 14 STATES- CNN SAYS HE WON NEW MEXICO
Michael is right.  The sniping and the race/gender/media bias cards have to stop being played.  Everyone is so wrapped up in the Hillary/Barack competition that we are in danger of losing site of the main goal -- take back the White House so that we can begin to restore the Constitution (and economy) that Bush has devastated.

I am an undecided Democrat in Ohio who finds positive aspects to both Clinton and Obama and who finds both negative aspects to both of them.  No matter which of them is the nominee, however, I'm voting Democrat so that we can take back America for ALL Americans, not just the neo-cons and corporate robber barons.
