Romney makes it official; he's out

Posted: Thursday, February 07, 2008 1:07 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
WASHINGTON -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney used this year's CPAC confab here as the venue to bring his presidential bid to a close.

"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Sen. Clinton or Obama would win," Romney said in his remarks.

As the results were rolling in on Super Tuesday, the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes correctly predicted on FOX that Romney would likely exit the presidential race during his CPAC appearance.

Several scenarios abounded regarding the road ahead should Romney have stayed in the race (including a situation the campaign explained to the New York Times that had the campaign hoping they could nab many of the delegates up for grabs in the event of a Huckabee concession), but too many prognosticators deemed the odds mathematically impossible.

Romney employed many of the same lines in his speech that he's used on the stump throughout his campaign. And he confirmed one obvious thing that he admitted in his book, Turnaround, following his failed 1994 Senate campaign: He hates to lose.

A fine race by Mitt Romney and an impassioned speech to remember.  I voted for Mitt, along with 59% of Colorado Republicans for the very reasons outlined in his speech today:  http://www.mittromney.com/News/Press-Releases/CPAC_Address

Republicans need to unite to win and not surrender to the empty suit, Obama or the Billary machine that is pushing for big government control over a free people.

Remember what Reagan said, "To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last...but eat you he will."
barack is hiding his muslim roots, BARACK HUSSEIN Obama; and hides  real reason why he kept voting to spend our $$$$$$$$in Iraq, and  why he supports nuclear energy, on how he would have contained the threat of a Nuclear Iraq back in 02, 03, and how he brings us together by accusing anyone who says Boo about his policies of being rascist, even if they fight for civil rights>>>etc>>.
As we celebrate black history, we are reminded how hard White Women fought for equal rights for Black Americans.
No Mitt means I'll VOTE for WHATEVER is the independent vote. No CLINTON, OBAMA, or MC(nursinghome). Without Romney or Edwards in the office the whole country will suffer. GOP "Go On Grandpa". It's a sad day for the USA when the best leaders from bothsides have already dropped out of the race. The GOP has hurt the party, mormon bashing, people bashing, we are smart enough to decide who we want in the top office. The backroom deals telling us who "will be" instead letting us decide, wrong move. Since I'm single, see you later, I'll get out before they close the border so I can't leave either.
Considering Hillary is desperately wanting the Bill Clinton Monarchy in the White House, I doubt she will bow out even if Obama wins. She will fight to the last finish like a battle between two madmen.
ROMNEY "SUSPENDED" HIS CAMPAIGN. WHAT DOES "SUSPENDED" MEAN? DOES IT HAVE THE SAME MEANING AS "IT IS MY INTENTION TO RESIGN FROM THE SENATE?" (QUOTE LARRY CRAIG) DON'T KID YOURSELVES WE HAVE NOT HEARD THE LAST OF ROMNEY'S CAMPAIGN FOR REPUBLICAN NOMINEE 2008.
WELL NOW YOU GONNA HEAR McCAIN START BEATING THE DAY LIGHTS OUTA OBAMO"PREACHER" ASKING JUST WERE HE STANDS ON ISSUES..HE WILL NOT LET HIM SQUIRM HIS WAY OUTA NOTHING..OBAMO WILL BE HIT LEFT AND RIGHT UNTIL HE STUDDERS OUT SOMETHING..THE MAN CANT SPEAK WITHOUT HIS SPEECH WRITER...GIVE HIM HELL McCAIN!!!
I am an unaffiliated conservative that usually votes Republican. With Romney out, I will NEVER vote for McCain. He represents OLD thinking, OLD politics, and just plain old OLD. I will now vote for Obama. His message of change resonates with me and I believe this country needs fresh, new leadership. I hope other conservatives will do the same and send a much needed wake-up call to the Republican party. Obama will win. Conservatives across the country, the Republican party is broken. Let's rally behind Obama amd really CHANGE Washington and America.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood, the neighborhood, the neighborhood. Hello, boys and girls. The lesson for today is about how we should never try to buy the American Presidency. People who try to use their wealth to buy power rarely succeed. It is not the American way. So remember... hard work, fair play and honesty are the principals we should live by.
hey Sierra:

I agree w/ you that McCain/Romney would be the strongest ticket...If they can put their bitterness aside.

Obama/Edwards?

Obama/anyone?

This guy couldn't govern a car, let alone the country.  He's a good speaker, I'll give you that.  BUT, has anyone else noticed the distinctive difference in his accent ever since his speech on MLK Jr's b'day....This guy is all fluff.  To imagine him negotiating w/ the Chinese is terrifying.  He can't even handle it when Billary turns up the heat.  Much more will come out about Obama as the GOP has time to build their case in the coming months.  Liberalism belongs in Europe!

Lets take back our Country
Romney clearly entered this race with his eye on 2012. Due to Giuliani and McCain's inept campaigning in 2007, he saw a chance to go all the way in 2008, and narrowly missed it (thanks to the beating he got from the media at every corner). Romney has made the right decision, keeping his potential for 2012 alive. He went just far enough in this race, and got just enough conservative voices to start supporting him, that he now goes into 2012 as the front-runner. Some will say that his campaign in 2008 was a failure. But as a precursor to 2012 it was brilliant. 1 - The country knows him now; it did not last year. 2 - He knows the media, and all the different angles it will take on him now. 3 - He knows what aspects of his candidacy played well, and what aspects did not. 4 - He is positioned to have a prominent voice in Republican circles over the next four years (whether in office or not). Brilliant, I tell you. Brilliant. The only factor that could play against him is if McCain chooses Huckabee for VP, then actually wins, but only serves one term. Huckabee then has claim to the front-runner status. Huckabee will be this year's John Edwards -- VP nominee with eyes on the next election. (By the way, Obama got in with his eyes on 2012, too, assuming that Clinton had 2008 locked up, but was quickly surprised at how much support he received, at which point he decided to go in head-first).
romney will be back in 2012.
he made the right decision.
A crazy mormon, good for him!
see you poor little rich guy...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
