First thoughts: Some good GOP news

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** Finally, some good GOP news: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Republican Party is heading into a general election where it’s at a clear disadvantage -- whether we’re talking about generic ballot tests, fundraising, Iraq and the economy, or turnout so far in this year’s nominating contests. But with Romney’s departure from the GOP race yesterday, coupled with the perception that Obama and Clinton will continue battling at least for a couple more months, the GOP finally has some good news to tout: It appears to have its nominee months before the Democrats will. And this time is an opportunity to heal wounds, raise money, and reorganize for the general election battle ahead. The Democrats -- with all of their advantages -- might not have that same opportunity. Think about this stat, by the way: There is more time in between the last primary (Puerto Rico) and the start of the Dem convention (approx. 80 days) than there is from the end of that convention to the November general election (approx. 60 days).

*** A note of caution, however: While everyone is proclaiming McCain the presumptive nominee after Romney’s exit, the GOP race still isn’t over. And do remember that McCain has never been a good front-runner -- he has always seemed to trip up when in that position. Huckabee is still in the race, and his last stand is Virginia. He may not say it, but it's pretty obvious when one looks at the potential Republican electorate. Should many indies and moderate Republicans decide their vote is better spent in the Dem primary, then Huckabee's passionate evangelical supporters could be enough to keep things close. What does McCain do now? For one, he can't completely act like he's taking the nomination (and conservatives) for granted. He should do what he can to put Huckabee away for good on Tuesday. A big win by McCain over Huckabee in Virginia will do just that. The thing McCain has left to fear from conservatives who aren't on board yet is a third party challenge, and that happens if he pokes conservatives in the eye or ignores them too quickly and moves too fast to the center.

*** The streak might be broken: With Romney bowing out of the race, the chances of a sitting senator winning the presidency in November are now extremely high, NBC’s Andy Merten notes. Barring the highly unlikely surge by Huckabee (a governor) or the entrance and success by a third-party contender (say Bloomberg), either McCain, Obama, or Clinton will probably win in November -- the first time in nearly 50 years a sitting senator has won the presidency, since JFK. Something else worth pointing out: If McCain and Clinton both end up winning the nods, it will be the first time we can remember both nominees being outspent in the primaries.

*** Dictating the pace of the game: Is Obama the front-runner? Maybe not, but the fact that he's dictating the terms of when the candidates debate and he is the fundraising leader, he's on the verge. The only thing missing: an overall delegate lead and a national primary poll lead. Clinton needs to stop him from that because if his momentum ever gets to the point where he looks like the national front-runner in the polls, everything else will only cement him. Another example of Obama dictating the race: his semi-call yesterday for the Clintons to release their tax returns after the $5 million loan, which led to a slew of stories today examining their wealth. But the Clinton folks had to know this would be the result of their decision to spend their own money. After all, the Clintons have only accumulated their wealth since Bill Clinton left the presidency. By the way, can the Clinton campaign get away with their promise to wait to release their tax returns after the primary season?

*** Another busy weekend: If you thought that there were no contests between Super Tuesday and Chesapeake Tuesday on Feb. 12, think again. This weekend, there are a total of five Democratic races, and a combined 185 delegates are at stake in them. In fact, it’s worth noting that this delegate amount is 48 more than were at stake before February 5. On Saturday, Louisiana (primary), Nebraska (caucuses), the Virgin Islands (territorial convention), and Washington State (caucuses) hold nominating contests. And Maine (caucuses) goes on Sunday. The GOP also holds contests in Kansas, Louisiana, and Washington. A preview of these races is below…

*** Loopholes donkeys could fit through: Journalists are not lawyers or mediators or referees. Unfortunately, particularly with regard to the situation surrounding Michigan and Florida's delegates, we've had to play the part, in some respects, of all three. We pride ourselves on trying to make the complicated clear. And for those of us who attended the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting months ago, most of us thought the rules were abundantly clear. It went something like this: you knew the rules; you broke the rules; you get one last chance (30 days to figure out how to abide by the rules), and if you don't, you are punished. Now we learn that through what essentially amounts to loopholes and legalese, Florida and Michigan could be given another chance. There's talk that if they hold caucuses or something similar, then their delegates could potentially be seated and have full voting privileges. But just asking: Isn't it Parenting (or Teaching) 101 that you shouldn't set consequences you can't follow through on? Because when your child (or student)-- given clear expectations and consequences from the beginning -- breaks the agreed-to rules and you don't follow through, don't you lose credibility?

*** On the trail: Clinton is in Washington State, where she stumps in Tacoma and Spokane; Huckabee holds rallies across Kansas; McCain campaigns in Virginia, Kansas, and Washington State; and Obama attends a rally in Seattle, WA before traveling back to Chicago.

Countdown to Chesapeake Tuesday: 4 days
Countdown to Ohio and Texas: 25 days
Countdown to Election Day 2008: 270 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 347 days

Obama winning the caucus in Minnesota did not sway me a bit, we are the state that put Ventura in for govenor and Mondale ; noothing to be proud of. We are the state that picks the fringe candidates. And now the republicans are thinking about Pawlenty; our govenor  for VP. He is a big failure as govenor.
Here's evidence that McCain may have problems getting the conservative vote and that Obama has more crossover appeal than Clinton.

In a Utah poll, 30 percent of the voters chose McCain, 25 percent chose Obama, 11 percent chose Clinton, and 2 percent chose Huckabee (whom they blame for Romney's losses). 22 percent don't know what they will do now.

Attention Superdelegates - Hillary cannot win in November.

How will she get more Independent votes than McCain? THAT IS THE KEY! THE INDEPENDENT VOTE!

OBAMA DOES APPEAL TO INDEPENDENTS! (and even some in the GOP!)

Superdelegates - Obama can win in November. Case closed.
Who gives a damn about the Clintons tax returns, the IRS must have been satisfied with them.  As for me I am more interested in hearing them debate the issues, but Senator Obama doesn't want that, people might realize he is not the second coming.
I agree with this theory: The Dems are moving to a landslide victory in the fall. Not only the presidency but a majority of senate and congressional seats as well. The Republicans know it and that is pretty much why Romney backed out as he did.

Romney and the conservative wing of their party is content to wait this thing out. They want Hillary as the nominee and potentially even the president for 1 reason. She is the rallying cause they need to unite their party again. She will do for the Republicans what Bush did for us. Every conservative pundit, editorialist and politician will spend the next 4 years in an all out assault against the new/old Clinton administration. Is that what people want to go through again?

Now maybe you can say Obama will get the same treatment but I don't believe it will be anything close to the blood bath their gearing up for against Hillary. Dems need to wake up and realize that on the surface both Obama and Hillary will make decent presidents. What we need to consider is the long term strategy of maintaining the white house and congress long enough to get something done. Obama is the only one who can who can do that.

Sierra - I think you're reaching with the Chelsea thing. There's nothing strange about a daughter working for a parent's campaign. The only thing with Chelsea is that she's been kept so silent for so long, its a little different that now we're seeing her play a bigger role.

Telling a 4th grader he was a member of the press and thus Chelsea couldn't talk with him was strange. Making phone calls on behalf of her mom isn't.
Mcwar is just going to give us a 3rd bush term on steroids...more wars...more deficits...more poorly qualifed, incompetent morons from rightwing law schools...more pandering to the christian right...more brownies, rummys and pat paulson, I mean hank paulsons....hope the dims get their act together and shove clinton over the side soon
Hey JT, Texas... Your absolutely correct, what is Obama hiding that he will not debate the issues "one on one" with Clinton. They have only debated one on on one "once". Are you all so bent on electing a President without a "full" and open discussion ? Let the debates begin now, Senator Obama !

Hey Buzz, I think the greatest VP was Mondale. Oh yeah, remember the landslide Vs Reagan shortly thereafter. Cater / Mondale, worst embarassment in history!
To those who think Obama is more electable than Hillary, chew on these tidbits.  If McCain campaigns on the question of "In a time of crisis and war who do you think will be a better President, people will decisively agree it is McCain.  If Obama wins the nomination, the Republican "attack machine" will pin the label on him as the "Black Candidate".  See the the Republicans know they don't need the black vote to win the election, all they need to do is galvanize the white vote.  Also the Republicans will appeal to the blue collar and middle American voter, by painting Obama as an elitist, the darling of the liberal "wine and cheese" Kennedy wing of the Democratic party.  They will portray McCain as "The Regular Guy" candidate, one you can sit down and have a beer with after a hard day's work.  Hillary, well everyone knows her baggage, it's been out front for the last 16 years.  There's not much left they can lob at her that we all haven't heard.  If Obama is the nominee, who knows what dirt the Republicans will pull out of the closet to smear him with, for you see he has been the media darling to date, what happens when he and his record become more and more scrutinized in the glare of a general election.  Just look at the exit polls, Hillary overwhelmingly carrys the blue collar vote while Obama carries the elitist upper class, college egghead Kennedy wing of the party.  I think secretly the Republicans are dying to run against Obama, exactly for some of the reasons I stated above. Hillary has a lot of baggage, that's true but at least we know what it is.  Remember, better the devil you know!!!!!!!

Also for those who are clamoring for the Clintons to release their tax returns, may be they will when Obama gives us a plausible answer as to why he voted "Present" 133 times in the Illinois legislature and why all his records from that time were mysteriously shredded.
As for Chelsea being "pimped out". She is being pimped, by her parents. Chelsea is an adult, and is able to make her own decisions, but yes, she is being used as a stage prop by her parents. It's embarrassing to watch.
Yeah, everyone knows y'all gotta keep your thing going,
but some of you just do not seem to understand:  We
don't need good news FOR the GOP; we need good news
FROM the GOP. Like, positive economic news. Like, victorious military news. Like, big time "APE" (that's "athletic" "political" "economic") phonies IN JAIL news!
Otherwise, the news is just like the source: PHONY NEWS!
Thanks, Frank
The best thing that could happen is to NEVER EVER have a Clinton in or near the White House again. The first Clinton was without a doubt the worst example of a president in American History. I say that as a Democrat for 20 years. It's people like the Clintons that caused me to switch parties. No matter who gets the nomination I will never vote for Hilary and her first Lady Billy.
Who gives a damn about the Clintons tax returns, the IRS must have been satisfied with them.  As for me I am more interested in hearing them debate the issues, but Senator Obama doesn't want that, people might realize he is not the second coming.

Dude - they have Debated 18 times where were you???????
How can so many voters be afraid of John Bush Mccain?I see the spoilers in the democratic party are still up to their devisive tactics.Destroy one dem to build up another. What is wrong with just saying good things about you voting choice?Do you have to destroy the one that may win the primary? You will be as much at fault as Jerry and sierra if the republicans once again sit in Bushs throne.

For real hard working Americans, Hillary is the one who is needed the most.

I always felt Obama supporters are rich selfish people who just need inspiration (as they get everything else easily in life) but they never understood the struggle which most Americans face.

A MISSIVE TO THE TRUE 'FOOT SOLDIERS OF THE REAGAN REVOLUTION':

PRIMO: We face a double edged sword: stick to our conservative principles and not elect 'straight talk' McCain or swallow a bitter pill and pull a lever for Mac.  If we compromise our core principles, then we are no better a party than the Democrats and will lose all support from our base.

SECUNDUM: The Reagan revolution did not occur in a vacuum.  It was the result of a slow, deliberate grass roots movement which began in the 60's.  If we are to regain the scepter, we must turn our backs to Mac and begin rebuilding again for 2012.  Let us return to the basics: churches, town halls, and various social networks.  Hopefully, from the ashes a true leader shall arise with our enthusiastic support.

TERTIUM: How did we start with Reagan (some would say Goldwater) and end up with Mac?  We simply got lazy and allowed weak links to infiltrate our strong chains.  Allowing various political parvenu (ie, Mac, Graham, Snowe, Lieberman) to claim the title of conservatives while harboring truly liberal values will only weaken our party.

QUARTO: Mac should be made an example of.  By allowing him to wallow in a sea of emptiness, we will send a clear message to future candidates that our philosophy is not to be watered down.  Ever.

QUINTO: Sweeping away the rubbish. Let us resolve to vote out false prophets and apostates alike.  In congressional and regional elections, only vote for the true Praetorian Guards of the conservative GOP.    Phonies need not apply.  Our purity of dedication will attract others drawn to our dedication of principle over expediency.

SEXTUM: Do not let the nay sayers bring you down.  Avoid getting to entangled the histrionics of the mainstream press.  A loss in November does not spell doom for our party.  Not too long ago, the Dems. were caually dismissed as irrelevant and anachronistic.  They have since gained the House and Senate.  We should persevere and patiently wait for 2012.

SEPTEM: Keep your chins up and move forward.  No need to play the violins and feel sorry for yourselves.
I cant believe how many ignornant americans there are ....actually I can ...they all voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. Both Hillary and Obama can beat McCain ..HANDS DOWN !!!.  Remember McCain wants to continue with the Iraq war even if it takes us "100 years" .... there is no way in HELL people will vote for that man (not event the independents).  A vote for McCain is a vote for more years of Bush policies.
It is very simple.  McCain and Hillary favor the war.  Hillary, as a lawyer, had to understand that the Congress could not and should not have ceded their constitutional responsibility (to declare wars) to the Executive Branch.

Senator Obama is the only candidate that makes sense.  As to his ability to succeed from the first day, he certainly seems to have quickly grasped how to run in a nationwide election, from day one.

Let's face it, no one is prepared to be President especially not Senators with no executive experience.  So, we are left with choosing based on the candidate's values and judgement.  Well, it has to be Senator Obama over Clinton or McCain.
TO ALL CLINTON SUPPORTERS I ASK THE FOLLOWING...
1. Does it bother you that she couldn't handle her campaign budget therefore a excellent examle she would overspend the nation's budget?

2. Does it bother you that she "pledged" not to count MI & FL delegates and now she changes her mind?

3.  Does it bother you she's contrlling enough to garnish wages to ensure her healthcare plan is used especially when she's taken money from medical lobbyists?

4.  Does it bother you she says on Meet The Press its a historical fact latinos doesn't vote for blacks when many blacks supporting her are in office from having the latino vote?

5.  Does it bother you that Pres. Clinton's NAFTA is the reasons companies are overseas, and she has done nothing about it?

6.  Does it bother you that her 35 yrs of experience is a reflection of her campaign budget a bust?

7.  Does it bother you she's always a victim of some sort when she thinks she'll lose?

8.  Does it  bother you polls show she can't beat McCain?

9.  Does it bother you she's not liked?

10. Does it bother you Bill's dealing with the M.E. built the new Dubai?  See ?WSJ article last Fridy for $110M given to his  foundation?

As an ex-liker of Hillary I've watched her closer than before and concluded she's a conniving, divisive, cold, calculating who craves power.  My vote will definitely go to a Republican (McCain) especially if Huckabee's a VP for the 1st time.
This argument put forth by Chris Matthews that some staunch conservatives would rather see Hillary win than McCain is just another argument for nominating BARACK OBAMA!! He said this morning on "Morning Joe" that having Hillary in the White House would make people like Rush Limbaugh joyful as she would guarantee lots of material for him and other right-wing zealots. Well, let's not give Rush that opportunity! Nominate Barack Obama!

It just seems there is so much drama associated with the Clintons - either that they will fire up the GOP FOR McCain - or that McCain will force the Tom Delay's of the world to sit on their hands and not vote if Hillary is the nominee because they will love having her as a "punching bag" for four years.  I want to say that judging by this Blog, as well as others like Politico.com, Huffington Post, Hotline, etc. there are HUGE NUMBERS OF DEMOCRATS WHO WILL SIT ON THEIR HANDS AND NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY - INCLUDING ME!! So I think the argument about people like Rush and Delay not supporting McCain in favor of Hillary is a non-factor because there are probably MORE on the Democratic side who will NEVER vote for Hillary and Bill!

So let's stop all of this madness and nominate a truly UNIFYING man - Barack Obama! This should not be some sort of "Machiavellian" contest to see who will alienate whom more, etc. It should be a contest between two good, honorable candidates - Obama vs. McCain - who have very different outlooks on major issues. But not a contest muddied up with all of this 1990s baggage that will come along with the process if Hillary and Bill are the choice of the Democrats.

NOMINATE BARACK OBAMA!!!
Re: My staunchly conservative, religious, jewish boss has proclaimed that if the its McCain vs Clinton  she will NOT vote

Even if Joe Lieberman is McCain's running mate or Hillary's for that matter?

How about if it is a McCain-Huckabee ticket, would a conservative think 2012 here I come and vote for the two?

Yesterday Romney insulted millions of Americans by stating he was withdrawing to avoid surrendering to terror aka a Hillary or Obama victory in November.

That was a irresponsible and reprehensible statement and not one Democrat has said one word about it at least till now.

Millions of Democrat supporters are also proud
Americans and to insult them in this manner is totally unacceptable.

But then the "fear" card is the only card the Republicans have to play.

And to think all those "smarter than you are" pundits on CNN and CSPAN and DISHPAN were counting out the conservative neo-cons and thinking they were irrelevant.

Attention Obama supporters. The novalty of him will wear off by Nov. He will lose by 20 points. He has not been vetted, the latins will go for McCain, and indepenant whites will go heavely to the right. Sorry.
Wow! The Clinton haters are out today, ranting, raving and howling. They never talk about the issues. Well I live down here in Texas and I am going to expain a few facts of life to you. First, if you think that Obama will carry the red states that he has already won, you are sadly mistaken. He will lose lose all of the south and border states and if McCain is the nominee, he will lose Michigan, Ohio and Pa.The other red states of Alaska, Kansas, Idaho,Montana and Utah have very few democratic voters and some have never voted democratic since being added to the union of states. Dreams are one thing and reality is another. The republicans will use race and inexperience and rip him apart. Hillary, who has been attacked by them for years and is still standing has the best chance of defeating McCain. The bias media puts her at a tie with McCain aand Obama up by six points. This is before the attack machine has started, but I don't believe any of the polls the day of the election they were touting on MSNBC that she was down by 13 points in Ca.and played it and played it again and, and again. She won by 10 points and this is a swing of 23 points. MSNBC is just an Obama spin network.
SENATOR CLINTON IS LOOKING FOR A FREE AIR TIME TO SHOWCASE HER STUPID "MANDATED" HEALTHCARE DEBATES.

SHE TOUTS "EXPERIENCE" AS HER STRENGTH AND THE ABILITY TO WITHSTAND THE FAR-RIGHT CONSERVATIVES NEO-CONS ATTACKS!

INVOKING THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL ATTACKS AND SMEAR CAMPAIGN AS HER STRENGTH? WHAT A MUDSLINGER...SHAME ON THE BILLARY'S!

TALKING ABOUT "EXPERIENCE"...A LOOK AT GEORGE BUSH PRESIDENCY WILL TELL YOU THAT ANY DUMMY CAN SIT IN THE WHITE HOUSE!

BUT WE NEED CHANGE FROM THE BUSH/CLINTON STATUS QUO!

GO OBAMA!!!
I wouldn't give you MY tax returns if I didn't have a reason to.  Why should I?  My business is none of your business unless you vote me into a position where it is.
Hillary has said quite clearly that if she is the nominee she will release her records.  If she is not the nominee, it's not relevant, and therefore none of your business.
What part of that is so hard to understand?
MSNBC's OBAMARAMA PROMOTION MUST END. ENOUGH ALREADY. Obama cannot win a general election, because he's not qualified to be President. Ask yourself why the corporate owned media would be so shamelessly promoting him? They fear Hillary. Hillary Clinton is the best candidate of any party, she's the most experienced, most intelligent, most politically skilled with the best grasp of domestic & international issues of any candidate. The Dems are lucky to have her! I trust that voters will wake up and realize Obama would sink our chances of victory in November. His thin resume of "I was a community organizer in the south side of Chicago and Senator for a couple of years" would be laughed off the stage. Obama should gracefully exit the race now so the Dem party becomes unified and no more money and time would need to be spent on the primaries.
Ron, Tx: Can you tell - does Senator Obama have a chance at being competitive with Senator Clinton in Texas?
Pat, Boston, MA (Sent Friday, February 08, 2008 10:28 AM)

Yes, I think so.  The trouble with saying it's very competitive, or tilting to Obama, is that Texas is very large, and the cities have very different atmospheres.  I am sure Obama will win Austin, it's highly educated, and college students are a large percentage of the Austin (50k attend UT, 10-20k at various other colleges in Austin, 600k total population).  Many other parts of the state just don't like Hillary simply because of the Republican tilt.  Dallas and Houston have very mixed populations.  Her only benefit would be with latinos, which Texas has a LOT of.  If Obama can figure out a decisive way to court these voters, and inform them of his stances on Latino issues (which are generally much stronger than Hillary's stances), I think it will at least be very close between the two.
Hillary, release your tax returns.  You are preaching transparency in government.  As a presidential nominee, you owe us that.
In the next four weeks Obama has agreed to debate twice. What is all of this griping about from the Clinton camp?

It is Freshman Political Science 101 that the person who feels they are losing demands numerous debates. Hillary is acknowleding that she is losing by demanding round-the-clock debates. Also, she wants the free media. She better be careful what she wishes for. How will she answer a most-likely question from Tim Russert about her Tax Return non-disclosure?
Re: Bill has brokered a multi-million dollar deal with the Dubai Port Authority .....not too very long ago....suddenly Hillary is able to "loan" her campaign millions....this information came from one of the commentators on the FOX News channel....wonder how she will repay the Saudi's if she gets to be president?

unquote:

First please explain how a Dubai deal translates into repaying the Saudis, unless you think the 9/11 hijackers were Iraqis?

Secondly you quote FOX.

FOX is a pseudo neo-con TV network that will support "family values" while also offering the most degrading and nasty TV shows.

McCain will win. The GOP will not allow Rush to hijack this campaign. The conservitives are upset but will come around to Mccain after we know who the dems put up. Niether BO or HRC will be able to garner support from independants because Mccain will hammer them on the issue of the Iraq surge. He was absoultly correct. He has been for WINNING the war since day one. BO & HRC will be crucified by him on this issue and independants will come to the realization that niether can be trusted with national security.

All the libs may think this war was wrong, however when it comes to the job of President the most important issue is Defense, all the other issues are secondary. If this country is not able to protect its people how can any other issue matter.

Tax returns for ALL U.S. citizens are public domain information, that is, once they are filed.  Last I heard, April 15, 2008 is the filing deadline, unless you apply for an extension.  My guess?  The Clintons have filed for several extensions and won't be required to file their tax returns until 2009 or beyond.  Er, January 15, 2009.

Sadly, by covering-up their tax information only feeds into the viable argument of privacy they are willing to wage against the more transparent actions of Obama.  If Clinton is professing "change", wouldn't complying with this kind of transparency show a true attempt to be so?  To validate her definition of "change"?  The actions to back up her words?

Um, I think not.  She is incapable of such displays of truth, honesty, transparency.  And by resisting, she's only adding fuel to her own pyre!

Oh! and on the topic of demanding debates!  LOLOLOLOL!  Isn't it "usually" the underdog who wants, vies for, offers, demands, asks for, requires further debates?  Obama is acting like the class-act that he's proven to me that he is, by agreeing to two more--but wait!!!!!  He's the underdog, right?
Can a past of Islam change the path to president for Obama ...
As Andrew points out, an early verdict for McCain does not necessarily mean good things for the Republicans. McCain will be explosed as a self-righteous little man. Obama and Hillary will make news. The leads in all the papers on on all the networks will be the Democratic campaign. And Obama will gain the advantage thereby of increasing exposure. In contrast to McCain, that will be decisive when November finally arrives. Familiarity with Obama will (I hope) defuse the latent racism underlying the American electorate.
Just an observation from the other side, My staunchly conservative, religious, jewish boss has proclaimed that if the its McCain vs Clinton  she will NOT vote but if its a McCAin vs Obama vote, she will vote for McCAin. Its interesting to hear how the conservatives are thinking. They HATE McCain representing their party, and the supposedly vilified left wing Clinton is easier for them swallow then Obama. The conservatives may come out in full swing for McCain rather than allow obama to win. Its just an observation.
Lynette, NYC (Sent Friday, February 08, 2008 9:52 AM)

As a Republican conservative who doesn't like Hillary Clinton, when it comes down to it I would prefer the more moderate Clinton to the leftist Obama.  While Hillary is left of center she isn't far left and I can see her as a Commander-in-Chief; however, I never can see the pacifist Obama in that role and would do whatever I could to see that he and his elite liberal backers don't steal the Presidency with false promises.  Yes we don't like Hillary, but we can't stand a whinning left-wing liberal who thinks he's better than everyone else.
Hillary's entire strategy depends on the aura of inevitability and an early knockout. She tried and failed to do this to Obama in Iowa, spent too much money, and has found her sources drying up as the Obama campaign catches fire and her "aura" is destroyed. The "loan" is a sympathy ploy, just like the tears, her staffers are being paid, she just wants to be able to brag about her fundraising ability and this was the only way raise money for her.
The superdelegates are laying low to see how this comes out, and will shift as the convention grows near and the outcome is clearer. Hillary may have them now, but they can change allegiance and WILL if necessary.
In Washington state, Hillary's campaign is robocalling to remind folks to VOTE for Obama, tho it's the CAUCUS that counts. (source: a campaign staffer)more dirty tricks, on every level, and in every state. They CANNOT be transparent--it does not fit the campaign mode of 1992, which is all the Clintons know and is non-operable today.
If the Clintons have dirt on Obama, it WILL be used before the convention, which should innoculate him from Republican hate radio well in advance of the general election.
Our next President will have to tell Americans many things they don't want to hear: the war has ruined our economy and destroyed our reputation in the world, providing healthcare, education and safety for our citizens will cost us more taxes, not less. We'll have to rejoin the world community on the environment and in the UN for political stability and peace. Personally, I don't see how the Clintons can do this, having demonstrated in two previous administrations that they (and that's a deliberate "they") can't solve these problems. I'm looking forward to the "Straight Talk Express" meeting the "Audacity of Hope" with the result being a stronger, safer, smarter America regaining its preeminence in the world.
Sierra, you are sounding alot like JERRY with your list: Whitewater-wasted tax $ on failed land deal that Gop cooked up to get the Clintons, Travelgate-PLEASE; Vincent Foster-Suicide or prove otherwise; Alleged rape; Monica- Another please(consenting adults); Iraq vote- which everyone in Congress voted for except 1 female representative from California and I believe a few senators. Obama, if he was in the Senate, possibly would have voted yes and/or present. It is easier to say you were against the war from day one when he did NOT HAVE TO VOTE ON RECORD. Finally, you are sounding so much like the conservatives vis-a-vis McCain. Whomever comes out of this the winner between Hillary/Obama gets my vote. I am like Swizterland.
I'm sorry, did Ron Paul concede the race and nobody informed anybody besides MSNBC? Why only mention huckabee?

1. Hillary wants more debates so she can try to bury Obama and she need free advertising.

2. Hillary did the loan to spur more donations.  It worked.  HOWEVER, Obama has received almost 1.5 to 2 times the amount of money she raised in the same time period.

3.Obama raised a good point of tax returns. He has ALREADY BEEN IN THE HABIT OF FULL DISCLOSURE.  The Clintons, Bushes and the Cheneys NEVER want that.  He is different already.

4. MCCAIN is a war candidate.  MY 1ST QUESTION to him is WHERE DO WE GET THE TROOPS?  No one is volunteering to go to the war but the poor and the disenfranchised and that is NOT FAIR.

5. SEAT THOSE DELEGATES IN FL/MI to the DEMOCRATS' FAILURE.  you will have an UPROAR that makes the MCCAIN BOOING YESTERDAY seem like hot burning valentine's loving COMPARED to the Democrats response(i.e. THE AL GORE STOLEN ELECTION if you need a reference)

thanks for reading.

Anyone who listens to Chris Matthews needs to get thier head examined.  As usual Matthews doesn't have a clue.  The most liberal Senator doesn't have a chance in the general election.  Not to mention if all the deligates were assigned from all the elections including Florida where all the Democrats were listed on the ballot Saint Obama would be losing just as he will in a general election.  Put your wine glass down my fellow elitists and look beyond the hype.  The Ted Kennedy candidate never wins.
I as a long Democrat do not believe that Obama can win in the fall against McCain.  Obama will leave the Latinos and some women voters home, while Hillary will pick some of the African American Group.  It would be a devastation for us to have four more years of George Bush politics and if the Dems do not unite, well that is what we will have.
Michelle Obama, your answer if Hillary was the nominee, should have been....I am a Democrat, but I plan to vote for my husband.

Kennedy, and establishment.......we need the votes in November, think before you speak.  Obama WILL NOT WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION.  THE LATINOS WILL STAY HOME.
"WE WANT TO KNOW WHY SENATOR OBAMA, WILL NOT DEBATE SENATOR CLINTON ?

Thank you, Dancy Dess...I knew somebody was going to throw that same tired argument out there!  You didn't disappoint!
Please, please, please!!! All of you HIllary supporters are driving me crazy!  To the person who stated Barack doesn't want to debate her becuase she'll expose him for what he really is???? Okay, what happended in the last 16 or so debates? AND to the one who steated that he's no more than a preaching community organizer...Well, America is ONE HUGE COMMUNITY that needs someone with the skill set to "organize" and bring it together! America's leader MUST realize that together, YES WE CAN and seprate, no we can't! If Barack is the preacher that compels America to listen, to take responsibility, to help each other and to build bigger, better, stronger relationships within this American Community then I say...Get out of his way and let him loose. If Barack is the Community Organizer that puts things in perspective so that we (the people of the community) can see better...Then get out of his way and allow the "preaching, community organizer" do what he needs to, so he can get us (the American Community) where we need to be.

Just goes to show how stupid you are with that "100 years" crap.  Anyone with a brain knows that he has no intention of having combats troops in Iraq for that period, but was only referring to that fact that America has troops stationed in various countries many years after hostilities have ended.  Anyone who implies he wants to continue a war for that long of time is either a political hack or just brain dead.  Not everyone is as dumb as you.
