Edwards, Obama cancel meeting

Posted: Monday, February 11, 2008 12:49 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Mark Hudspeth and Mark Murray
When asked about the AP report that Obama and Edwards meeting is not happening today, the Obama campaign told us to talk to the Edwards camp. However, when pressed, they said it wouldn't be inaccurate to report that the meeting will not happen today or tomorrow.

A source close to Edwards confirms that the meeting has been canceled. But the source doesn’t know the reason behind it; it could be something as simple as a scheduling conflict.

People there is a bigger picture here. The Republicans are betting we have this separation in our party so they can come in and sweep us out. Notice that all the negativity is against Hillary they prefer Obama because they feel they can bet him. He has the moment but does he have the skills. Change can be good but can also be disastrous.
Truely listen to what is said and not just a good speech only. Just like a coach before a game a good inspiring speech can motivate your team but not necessary win the game.

Obama and Edwards will wait for a time that Obama needs a surge in the media.  With his sweep this weekend, he doesn't need the additional good news an Edwards endorsement would bring right now.
Also, I'm tired of hearing about how much "experience" Hillary has.  From what i've read from New Yorkers, in the six years she's been there she has done nothing for them and simply readied herself for this presidential run.  Would Bill still be around if this were not true?
Some things never sieze to amaze me. For example all during this talk of experience during the campaign and I never heard anyone question Edward's experienc eto be president. He was just a one term senator. never done anything but make money as a trial lawyer but he is qualified to be president. I wonder if his qualification is the one he did not and couldnot achieve (white middle age man).

Just a thought!
THe republicans perfer HRC. Why else would Bush attach just of of the Democratic canidate? They are fearful of Obama.
I hope John Edwards stays ABOVE THE FRAY and doesn't endorse either of them.
On the contrary Frances! The Republicans want nothing more than to dump the years worth of crap they have, all over Hillary. If you listen to just about every Republican, they tout Hillary.

As for her experience... it certainly wasn't enough for her to see the war in Iraq would be a mistake, was it? But to give you the benefit of the doubt, as she has to Bush, she had no choice but to cave in to her constituents. What? she was going to vote against the war, as a NEW YORK senator, the epi-center of the nations empathy, compassion and patriotic flag waving? Right! and commit political suicide? She voted to further her political career, instead of standing up against the war and telling her constituents, it's what was best!  That's what a REAL leader would do.
If Edwards backs Clinton he is essentailly committing political suicide. He made it seem like he was down for change and against the political establishment and a washington outsider. Backing Clinton now will go with what I have been telling people since he dropped out of the race.......He will not endorse someone until their is a clear cut winner. He wants the VP spot....... I will lose respect for him if that proves to be true. He was Hillary's biggest attacker all along. Even after Obama won in Iowa. Which leads me to believe if he backs her it is for political power and therefore he can not be trusted.

Hopefully Edwards will back Obama after sweeps the Chesapeake primaries. I can only hope. Vote for Obama vote for change!!!!!
Hillary is consistently winning the vote of the less wealthy -- those are Edwards people. And, Obama has taken money from Exelon and other "special interests." It would be right for Edwards to support Hillary.

I know you Obama supporters love the guy -- but these are serious times and we need someone who demonstrates, daily, in word and deed that she understands the issues and has the steadiness to lead us through the morass. Hillary is the only viable candidate -- you can't be a democratic nominee without winning CA, NY, NJ, MA and FL.
I find it ironic how Obama is receiving so much positive attention from the Media and Hillary Clinton is being picked on left and right. It is almost as if the media DARES NOT attack a black man, and in order to get attention and the drama the electorate desires, would prefer to attack a woman.

This Democratic contest seems like a game. It is very sad that Obama even won a grammy. It definately sounds like an endorsement to me, almost as if the etertainment industry is trying to influence greater numbers of young voters to vote on behalf of Obama for an audio book.

I am a Democrat, BUT if Obama wins the Nomination, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM, and I NEVER vote Republican, but the fact of the matter is that I will vote for McCain if Obama wins. It is sad to listen to musicians say they support Obama because he is an agent for change. Hillary has proven strength and the desire to make great changes, I feel it is their way of masking the fact that they are voting for him based on color.

I will never vote for a man who is not a descendant of an American slave. I would be proud to vote for a true African American whos ancestors struggled through slavery, suffrage and civil rights in this country. Obama is not from that lineage. Just my opinion.
For all of you that are stuck on experience only, get over it.  Experience without common sense means nothing, how much experience did George W. Bush have, not only did he have experience, he had the knowledge of his dad to fall back on. (Where did it get him.)  Is this the rationale that H.. Clinton is using.  Wake up People Look at where we are now (heading to a recession). Hillary Clinton is not her husband.  Change is what we need.  This is the 21st century, we can not move forward reaching back for what was. Obama is probably the change that we need, give him a chance.
I am so tired of reading all these negatives vibes you guys are putting out on Edwards, Hillary and Obama.  I have never seen so many judgemental people in this world.  What would you have to say if Jesus was running for President?  Are you going to find faults with him?  (I think not).  All I am going to do is pray for the right person who becomes President to have an open mind, an open heart and treat others as they would want to be treated.  You all must remember, we are only here on earth for a minute, and Only what you do for Christ will!  AMEN!
HILLARY/EDWARDS 2008! A team that equals ALL Americans will be insured. A team who are leaders who have courage to vote Yes or No rather than "Present". A team who will uplift the American Blue Collar worker. HILLARY/EDWARDS 2008!
Obama if the best thing to hit this country in years.  He will heal our nation, our relations with foreign countries, and show that our racial prejudices are put behind us.  And, he is brilliant, but anyone compared to Bush would be considered brilliant.  I think Obama has the ability to unify and get lots of things done for this country, which has really gone downhill in the last 16 years.  Let's make a big change and get away from the Bush-Clinton dominance in this country.
You know what's hilarious:

Hillary supporters think Obama supporters are naive and unrealistic-that their candidate is SUPREMELY qualified to face-off with GOP. Whereas Obama supporters can't imagine why any Dem in their right mind would support Hillary-an easy target for defeat in November.  I think maybe some analysis of the demographic split will play out-dummies for Hillary, Smarties for Obama... are their more dummies or smarties in the Democratic Party?
I don't think Edwards will endorse anyone.  Endorsements were never a big deal until Obama got into the picture.  His campaign uses anything to promote him.  And the media eats it up.  I am sick and tired of hearing this man give his unoriginal, boring and useless speeches.
People should go with the NON_POLARIZING HILLARY.
Obama had the nerve to spin it into Hillary being polarizing.  Listen to Ms Obama, and Obama himself YOU are polarizing!!!! This seems more like a cult being driven by a daily pep-rally.  Go back to Chicago.
Sorry, Obama fans, but it would if Edwards supported him, I would be surprised and lose a great deal of respect.  One of his biggest issues was Universal health care and when Obama came out with those Republican-like Harry and Louise adds (trying to scare people into going against the mandates and not pointing out that they would be on an affordable sliding scale), he should have lost any chance he had at Edward's endorsement.  That kind of thing is just what killed universal health care before and to put it in jeopardy over more twisting and scare tactics was just wrong.
Both Hillary and Edwards supporters are the working class as well. and she has proved herself a fighter, which is what Edwards likes about her.
Then there's electibility...sorry again, Obama fans, but no matter what polls say right now, people are missing too much information.  Obama will lose all independent and Obama-republican support when it becomes widely known that he supported the total banning and manufacturing of hand guns and as a double whammy, that he also supports giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens.
Also, his biggest base of supporters are ones the Republicans never get anyway while Hillary's supporters will bring much more to the democratic side (women who care about national security and latinos were the big reasons dems lost last time as they broke for Bush).  Having those two groups strongly on her side is a huge benefit and will work much better for us in the national election.
The fact that McCain will hammer Obama's lack of national security experience to death with more scare tactics--and don't kid yourself they will work just as they have always worked--would just be icing on the Republican cake.
I hope Obama runs as VP, but he can't win a national election and if he wins the nomination, I fear we will all be in even bigger trouble after 4 more years of Republican rule.
People, think about this please. Let's assume we nominate Hillary Clinton and she wins the Presidency. Your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will look at the history books and wonder what we were thinking, (Bush - Clinton - Bush - Clinton). Like so many 30 something Americans, I have never been able to vote in a Presedential Election without a Clinton or Bush on one of the ballots. It's getting to be re-god-damn-diculous. How can you say you stand for a government that represents the will of it's people in a form of democracy envisioned by the likes of Thomas Jefferson and John Locke, when we are treating it like a feudalistic monarchy. This is not the intention of democracy and for that alone we should vote for someone, anyone new. I like the Clinton's, I really do, but this is not how we are supposed to do things in this country, and they had their turn. We need to take our chances with the future.

We are to blame for the polarization of our politics and the corruption of our politicians, not the government or the people we elect. It is our fault for not being good stewards of the power our Constitution has afforded us as a people.

I like Barak, I admit, it, but not just because he inspires me, but because I know he can win and I don't believe Hillary can. I think the republican machine has ten file cabinets full of dirt on Hillary and Bill, and maybe a drawer or two on Barak.

Plus, I want Barak to win because at least there is a chance, no matter how small, that he might be one of the few politicians who really does mean what he says. With Bill and Hillary we've been there and done that.

But the number one reason to vote for Barak, is to restore the people's faith in our ability to be the good stewards of democracy that is required of us as citizens. And what Barak says is true, 'We are the change we have been waiting for". Things won't change unless we make it change. First things first, let's get a new family in the whitehouse.
Frankly, I do not understand the venom. In most ways, Obama and Hillary are exactly alike with a few variations. In other words no matter who we get as Dems either Obama or Hillary you are going to get the same thing, Second, why are Democrats attacking each other so horribly remember no matter who the nominee is the whole party will have to support that person. Remember all of this stuff that is being said will be used against the candidate in the fall
HOORAY!  I'd been saying all along Obama shouldn't meet with Edwards.  Why?  I don't like the fact that Edwards is hanging in there like a panting hyhena to see what's in it for him.  He's never really cared about 'poverty' he just always screams about it, but what in the world has he done about it.  Someone please tell me.  He was campaigning on the same message, the same words, he used in 2004 and so why hasn't he done anything about poverty in those years and before?  I still think he's a phony and wondered why in the world Obama and Hillary should promise him to campaign on HIS message.  Huh?  He dropped out -- or -- suspended out.

Obama is as unprepared to taken on Republicans as he was to take on Hil(lary Clin)ton.
re: patti's comment that the republicans will eat obama alive: that's what they said about clinton! obama is tougher than he looks.
Everyone I know has a preference, Obama or Clinton. But in the end it doesn't matter. Just vote for one of them in November. Anything to defeat the warmonger McClain.
Kev--working class people are not "dummies".  Just goes to show your ignorance.  And yes, lets look at the demographics...in a national race the Republicans always write off the black vote and them voting in such an obviously biased way (86% of them) will only turn off more and more white and latino voters.  He just can't win nationally without more of the white and latino votes.  Then his too liberal stances on many issues will start coming out (the media has been way too quiet about them, but the republicans won't be) and he's done for.  Sorry, just the truth.  I really wish I was wrong, but I don't think so.
We don't need Edwards to win.  Hillary can have him- she seems to be in trouble these days with anyone that isn't a senior citizen.  Obama can and will beat Mcain.  Period. Time for ar eality check- peeps.
Wow.  This group is exceptionally slow on the political uptake.  Hillary is not the best candidate equipped to take on the Republicans - Obama is.  She is McCain with slightly better hair.  Both are hawks.  Both will sway any way the polls or opportunity takes them.  Truly unscrupulous.  And the Repubs will unite in force to take down Hillary.  No one ignites the fire in the Republican base more than the Clintons.
As for the rescheduling - don't read into it too much.  I suspect it is a scheduling conflict.  Obama has a number of stops to make for tomorrow.  Edawards will, no doubt, wait until the last minute to endorse Obama - probably right before N. Carolina, which is shaping up to be a seriously important primary with a king-makers amount of delegates given to them as a prize for holding their primary so late in the race.  NC could very well decide our fate.
In regards to the campaign financing....Obama hasn't lied.  Even Edwards could not support claims that he had taken PAC or lobbiest moneys during his presidential campaign.  It was the whole strategy of this campaign from the beginning.  Barack has been a huge supporter of campaign finance reform - he thought that change had to start here.  Not after the election.  Edwards followed suit - after Barack.  Hillary - who as we all know, will take any money from anyone at anytime.  (Got a word for that out here on the Sunset strip).  Even with her huge money endorsements - she can't keep up.  Nearly 700,000 people have given to Barack in under $100 donations.  Not maxed out yet.  Plenty more where that came from.
Understand - Hillary is no different than what we have had in Washington for years.  Isn't about time we had a real change?  Is he experienced enough?  More experienced than Bill was when he ran.  What constitutes Hillary's experience?  Really.  1st Lady?  Wal Mart?  C'mon.  Get real.  Besides, she would lose that fight with McCain.  She would also lose the "voted for Iraq" fight with him.  Seems like there is way too much "experience" in Washington as it is.  Dick Cheney has the most experience in Washington.  Maybe when he's gone we can try to elect his wife.
Our party will unite two-one against the Republicans behind Obama.  He has ignited the youth.  He has ignited the black vote.  Two camps that don't tend to vote often.  Now, if he chose a Bill Richardson as his running mate - we could conquer the latino vote.  Better than an Obama/Clinton ticket for sure.
Edwards wants to be the Attorney General thats my bet on all of this. And I really don't think Elizabeth Edwards cares to much for Hillary. I also think Obama will do better than what people think in Texas and Ohio. He's going to be the next President!
If after all the bad mouthing Edwards had done to Clinton (Corporate money backing her campaign, etc.), should he now endorse her you just know he was paid off some way.
This is the first time I can remember the Clinton's getting deeper and deeper in a hole that they can't climb out of. Everybody's sick of ol time politics and thats all she has to offer. Tax and spend thats her motto. This time Bill can'teven help her. And as far as a winner in a Mccain, Clinton matchup. Mccain will have it hands down. Obama would run  a much closer race.
Obama is a great guy but something is not right.I would like to know what Mr.Obama  means by saying If I heard right OUR TIME HAS COME.Can you tell me what he means by that.Remember it's not Democratic against Republican so you can not say it's time to change house. It's two people from the same Party.
Actually Rove backed Obama.  He wrote a whole article telling Obama how to beat Hillary.  I can't post the url as it's against the rules here, but you can google it. :D
I'm curious if Hillary will be in LA District court on Feb 21 for the start of her civil trial with Peter Paul regarding her perjury in her 2004 campaign for New York Senate.
I don't think Edwards will endorse anyone.  Endorsements were never a big deal until Obama got into the picture.  His campaign uses anything to promote him.  And the media eats it up.  I am sick and tired of hearing this man give his unoriginal, boring and useless speeches.

The only experience Obama lacks is years of learning how to bribe people and scandal. Billary can not beat Mccain for the simple reason that independents will not vote for her, at least I wont. Obama Edwards 08 is the ticket I am looking for.
HELLO ? OBAMA HAS COMMITMENTS IN OTHER STATES !
