Explanation for the canceled meeting

Posted: Monday, February 11, 2008 2:41 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Per the Obama campaign, the reason behind the cancellation of tonight's Obama-Edwards meeting is purely a scheduling conflict -- and that both camps are working to reschedule.

points taken chuck, perhaps the potomac primary results are some factor in Edwards move..... or doesnt want the endorsement to BE a factor.   Billary put that crown down.
Sometimes even a Clinton cigar is just a cigar.

One might think the day before the Potomac Primaries that the Obama Team would be just a bit busy.

They simply should just meet on Wednesday or Thursday this week.
This initial Edwards supporter had zero hesitation backing Barack instead.
Obama doesn't have enough experience and pull in Washington to win the 800 superdelegates that represent the current establishment.  Those delegates will be needed to win the nomination.  Face it people, Hillary will win the nomination and then get beat down by McCain because enough people hate Hillary to stop her from winning.
My vote is for change,
I think everyone is missing the point.
We have to excellent Dems competing for the nomination. I support Obama, but I believe either canidate would make an excellent president. I would definitely vote for Clinton if she won the nomination!
I beleive Edwards followers have already decided who they want, since he got out. They are not waiting for his OK, to vote for who he endorses.

Hold on tight people, whether you like it or not, Change is Coming!!!!!!!!!

Obama probably cancelled so he can talk with Gore.
MSNBC is soo in love with Obama? Yeah, only if you thought so. Only if you are a whiner. I have seen so much hateful posts that MSNBC is allowing, all targeting Obama. A frend of mine tells me that she tried to post some of her views on Hillary, but these comments were blocked.
Even for someone calling Obama antichrist to be allowed to post. Some of my own anti-Hillary comments are being blocked.
In fact, the NY Times is the mag that just endorsed Hillary but is reporting much of the negative coverage on Hillary. MSNBC had to link articles to the NY Times isntead of doing their own reporting on Hillary. They don't even talk about all the corrupt men in Hillary's campaign.
So, I am deeply troubleed by te perceived anti Hillary bias. Sure some dumb journalists went beyond what MSNBC would have done, lashing out at Chelesea. Remember it is the Hillary Clinton campaign that is aggressive  seeking to have the media report on some of the happenings, while they certainly don't like soe of what MSNBC has to say.
So crybabies, put on your pacifiers and bibs. Grow up! Wise up! Do fact checking before you throw in baseless accusations and meaningless anti-Obama or anti-Hillary posts. you simply cannot try to brainwash us -- we are not too dumb to buy your baseless arguments.
Tahnk you Mr. President(Barack Obama), 2009 for having CommonSense not to go into a burning Fire!!!! Everyone want to see you go into Virginia/Carolina to get caught up in the deadly fires....Thank you Mr. President(Barack Obama), 2009 for using CommonSense.......
What has Obama promised to MSNBC that has you guys so heavily in his favor?  Honestly, its very disturbing how MSNBC has become Obama's unofficial campaign network.  I can understand some of your programming like Keith, which are designed to lean to the left or even one particular candidate, but this website and the entire organization have demonstrated a love for Senator Obama that rivals that of Fox News with President Bush. It's pretty bad when a news organization looses it's objectivity. (Just take a look at Fox News.)

Keep up the good work First Read. (I had so much respect for you)
Hillary offered Edwards the VP slot - Obama asked Edwards to meet with him before making the final decision.  Edwards is at the height of his value right now.  He must be careful to make the right choice.  This race is full of surprises.
John Edwards could be Hillarys' Vice-President nominee...Both of them together will not beat Barack Obama, duh!

Barack, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go into the burning fires in Virginia/Carolina. They want to burn you uP....BEWARE
The media needs to get off the OBAMA band wagon. I thought the news was suppose to stay neutral, what a joke. You all should keep your comments to yourself and report the news.
If Edwards endorses Clinton he'll look like a hypocrite since Clinton's camp is supported by hundreds of lobbyists. That will never happen.
It would be a huge political mistake for Edwards to endorse Clinton after calling her the "status quo candidate."

That said, what could Edwards possibly be doing that he has a "schedule conflict"? He can't be very busy these days.
The explanation for the postponement of the meeting is that there were helicopters flying over Edwards' home trying to cover the event.  They are rescheduling it in an attempt to diminish the media circus.

Dave, read The Audacity of Hope for 362 pages of "steak" that is behind the sizzle.  Read his web site for his positions on the issues.  He used to include more specifics in his campaign speeches, but was criticized for not being as uplifting as his speech at the 2004 Democratic convention.

Barack's and Hillary's positions on the issues are not that different.  Barack does have it over Hillary on character and leadership.
It is amazing how Hillary Clinton supporters are becoming a bunch of cry babies like her . I am a white, female who supports Obama and it is my choice. when anyone disagrees which hrc her posse is ready to attack. If she were a strong confident leader she would take her blows like the rest of us do. who gets more negative media play than obama and his supporters taked it in stride. Obama 08
Go Obama!
I am an Obama supporter. But he does not have this wrapped up in the least.  Its going to be a tough race and don't take anything for granted!
THE FACTS: Obama has always accepted lobbyist money.

Obama's campaign announced this month that former South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges had become a national co-chairman. Hodges' lobbying and consulting firm is registered to lobby for Hillenbrand Partners, a Chicago-based company that does business with the Federal Home Loan Bank in Atlanta.

Two other South Carolina leaders in Obama's campaign have lobbied in South Carolina. Senior adviser Rick Wade said he last lobbied in 1996. Anton Gunn, Obama's state political director, was a registered lobbyist between 2001 and 2004, according to state Ethics Commission records.

Goodness Shtuey, at least get the quote right. I digress. I've got a question that begs a direct answer. Are there more voters (rep & dem) who are unwilling to vote for a black candidate or more Americans who are unwilling to vote for a female candidate? Therein lies the Primary champ.
Obama would better suited as a civil rights speaker. He's all talk and no action in the run for president.
I also heard Michelle OBama say tonight on Larry King that Barrack and she don't live together; that he keeps an apartment in some other state and she lives with their children. What's that all about?
DITTO…….CHRIS, PHILLY
VERY WELL SAID!!!!!!!!
dj,

You know, if liking old coots who hold prejudices is a sin, then I'll have to join Obama.  I have several old people in my life whom I adore and cherish in spite of the old prejudices ingrained in them well before I was walked this earth.  See I happen to believe that loving people even when they are not perfect (are we ever?) oft-times changes their hearts and minds.  I believe in setting the example…not preaching it.

If Obama adoring an old guy even though the old one holds prejudices (for reasons we do not understand) is the best you can do, then we don’t have anything to worry about.

You on the other hand need to consider why you love people.  Is it only because they agree with you?   I hate to think about the number of people you kicked to the curb just because they held on to beliefs you refused understand.
Did anyone see this comment by Mark Penn today?

“She has consistently shown an electoral resiliency in difficult situations that have made her a winner,” Mr. Penn said. “Senator Obama has in fact never had a serious Republican challenger.”

I think the Obama campaign needs to point something out publicly and in the media.  Based on Penn's comment, Obama is not strong enough to win the general election because he has never faced a Republican candidate and Hillary has always beat Republicans, therefore, she is tested.
Well, Obama must be pretty darn good to be doing to Clinton what her own campaign admits Republicans have been unable to do.  That to me says he is a PRETTY TOUGH, WELL ORGANIZED, and DETERMINED candidate.  If he can take her down, the Republicans will be a piece of cake.
It's too bad that people (media especially  TV media)
are so determind to refer to the afro American instead of Senator Obama and Hillary as Senator Clinton. Both black and white media. It sad that as human being we can't get pass race. Theres good and bad in all races, black, white, asian, spanish etc...
there are some well educated and not so educated. It's sad to think that animals treat each other better than humans. the conservative right wing may not believe in abortion or gay rights imgration, and I suppose that has it's merits, but how can they look at them selves and lie, steal, coverup the curruption and put on shirts ties and carry their brief cases into the halls of congress and the senate. We american have allowed Professional liars be the law maker and executioners of o;ur country and you just don't get it. think about it.
If this keeps going Oregon, one of the last states to hold its primary, may become relevant to one of the candidates. It appears that Clinton seems to feel all  smaller, less populated states are not important according to her response earlier today when interviewed.  Go Obama!
Now all the Klan in suits with brief cases come out of the wood work and work the media while the skinheads do all the blogging.  I'm glad that Huckaby is not going to let the Republicans steal another election and any one who back Bush should be voted out by the people when the time comes their hands are dirty too. wonder what their hiding?
Michael from NY how will BO have a lobbyist free white house if he hires one to run his campaign?
Patty in San Diego,

Not only can you not see Obama's a-p-p-e-a-l, but you can't even spell it! (apeel!- sic!)

I can believe some of the attacks on either candidate are from sincere Democrats.  However, the baseless, pull no punches, gutter-scraping of some of these comments make me think that operatives of the RNC, using Karl Rove-inspired thinking, are posting a lot of these comments.

Democrats - we don't need an 11th commandment like the Republican Party does (speak no evil of your intra-party opponent), but COME ON!  Do not allow yourselves to get into a civil war!  If either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama are given the honor of serving as president, either one will be 100 times better than   McCain, who talks of staying in Iraq for 100 more years, about even more wars (remember 'Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran'?).  Economics?  Make the Bush tax cuts permanent, doing nothing but demonstrating again that Republicans don't understand that trickle-down doesn't work?

If you want us to back your candidate, give us reasons to do so.  Let the Republicans be known as the party of the slime lie.
Patty SD and all you Clinton shrill chipmunk crying gender card waving corruption parsed wording lovers need to see the movie about your female hero at www.DickMorris.com. The corruption of Billary is a joke and Edwards is too smart to ever endorse her! You should be sending her ten dollars rather than worrying about what O is doing!
Okay listen up, please stop your diatribes against our next President because he had to change his meeting with John Edwards. His endorsement really has no effect one way or the other because he will never endorse the Whitewater, Travelgate, great health care leader of the 90's, Hillary aka crying victim broke word parsing Billary!
The more of these blogs I read from the O'Bama supporters the more I turn away from him. Is this the class of people that follow him? Such filthy mouths and ugliness! Hate mongers! Boy he sure knows how to to attract the low down, no matter what econimical situation they are in. They probably don't need the Childrens Health Care Program. Nor do they need to take advantage of the work that has been done for our veterans. And how about that thing where the Congresssmen can only get raises according to the minimum wage increases? Tell me what your man has done? PLEASE!
Wow!  So much hate and disdain for one another and the candidates.  So many of you have it all figured out. You have the inside story on everyone's motives and feelings. I admit I am 100% for Obama, I am hopeful for something new and better.  Am I right? MAYBE!!  MAYBE NOT!  I just want our country to be one nation again. I used to be very patriotic.  My 30 year old kids have never seen patriotism. I want them to be "Proud to be an American".  Just reading the spiteful posts on this page makes me cringe.  Is this what a proud American is like? If "WE THE PEOPLE" are so full of hate how can we ever unite behind our new commander in chief?  If Hillary gets elected I will ask, what can I do for my country.  If Obama gets elected I will ask what can I do for my country. I personally would hate seeing a republican in office because I can only envision more of the same... but I'm not a psychic, maybe McCain is the right man for the job... what can I do for my country?  Mud slinging is not how we will fix our problems.  You don't want the candidates slinging mud at each other, you don't want the media slinging mud at your favorite candidate, but you sling it hard and fast at the candidate you don't support and at the people who support that candidate.  How many times have you seen a simple statement praising one candidate, not even at the detriment of the other and WHAM mud gets thrown in their face.  They are called stupid or incompetent or a myriad other names.  We are the problem. We were the United States of America. We are free to have our own opinions without being dragged through the dirt for those opinions.  Those of you who are so boldly taking your stands in calling others stupid, remember, you are one person, and thousands of people are against you.  Who do you think you are to be so judgmental to believe that you are smarter than half the democratic party? (It is a split down the middle right now).  Maybe if you are so smart, you should be the one running for president and see how it feels to give everything you've got for what you believe in only to be trashed and made fun of.  What a wonderful country we live in. What a hard job the new president will have in bringing us all together when this is the way WE act.
In my opinion,Edwards would take VP in a heartbeat. He left that door open, not endorsing Obama or Clinton. I think he will endorse Clinton today. I feel thats why he did not meet with Obama today. Big news in the moring !!!!!!!!!
Obama probably had to wait to talk to Edwards, because he needs his handlers to fabricate some spin to explain why he said he supports school vouchers, in Monday Feb. 11 th's politico.com interview.
The Democratic Party suffered under the leadership of Bill Clinton. They lost the house and senate and then managed to lose the Presidency to DUBYA. Think about that for a second, thats how low we had sunk...losing to an embarrassment like DUBYA.

So now that we're finally back on top, ready to thrive and take control after 8 miserable years, people want to GO BACK to the Clintons and suffer the SAME fate we experienced the last time a Clinton was in charge.

Yes it would be better if Obama had a bit more experience. Not that he's not ready now. He absolutely is and is just as ready as Hillary (if not more-so, evidenced by the operation of the two candidate's respective campaigns). And her time as First Lady should count for as much as the delegates in Michigan & Florida; NOTHING.

Hillary supporters hate on Obama because he hasn't spent his entire life in Washington or as a politician. As tho its a bad thing he's experienced life OUTSIDE politics, as tho "experience" in D.C. is the ONLY thing that counts. Please.

It's a shame Gore decided not to run. A Gore-Obama ticked would have locked up the White House through 2024. Fact. (and yes Gore is the guy who lost to bush, but lets not pretend now is comparable to then. Gore has turned into a superstar, whereas 8 years ago he was the boring incumbent. Gore could have and would have been elected President if he had wanted it)

So yah, in a Perfect World, Obama is Gore's VP, getting ready to take over in 2016. But it didn't work out that way, which might be the way things were intended to work out, because Obama is precisely what this country needs at this moment in its history.

On the other hand, America needs another Clinton like it needs another Bush.

IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON.
Young voters beware...when reality sets in, Obama's rhetoric will not be sufficient to get the job done...the first to abandon him will be those younger voters whose passion for change has led them to believe the political system in this country will be reconstructed by a messianic leader...there is merit in lobbying for a cause or a position and politics includes the opportunity for those who support and those who oppose an issue to attempt to influence those who legislate.  Does this process encourage criminal behavior of both those who seek to influence and those who profit from it?  Of course, it does! But we can deal with this behavior and, in this country, we have a pretty good record of doing just that...
So be warry of promises to bring about CHANGE so dramatic that we benefit a'la Obama.  If that is where you choose to place your confidence, be ready for an extended period of disappointment and, if you are new to this complex "political system", don't give up on it, learn from it, don't abandon it...learn to "make lemonade"...and don't forget..."if something looks too good to be true, it usually is"..
Edwards is nothing more than an ambulance chasing scum bag who only knows how to settle out of court for the highest bid.  His entire campaign was designed with only him in mind.  If I were Obama I'd offer him nothing.  The value of his endorsement was at it's highest only before super tuesday, now it's worthless because his supporters have already made their choice.  If he now supports HRC, he'll be shown for the fraud he is.  Either way, Obama already has what he would probably have gotten with the endorsement, so why pay now???  He deserves nada!!
What exactly are these meetings about?  Does Edwards really need more information, after all of this time on the campaign trail with them, to figure out what the differences are in what these candidates have to offer?  So is Edwards really just trying to sell his endorsement to the highest bidder?  That's pretty sad and, unfortunately, his endorsement is worth less now than it was before Super Tuesday.  And will people really be persuaded if, after all of his rhetoric about change vs. the status quo, he actually endorses Hillary?  In my opinion, Edwards had an opportunity to make an impact on this race, and it's gone.
My family supported Senator Edwards in 2004. My husband donated to his campaign this time too, but quickly switched to Senator Clinton. We did not like several of the issues Edwards championed. If he endorses Obama before the NC Primary,,,we will never forgive him and he can't ask us for a dime.He needs to wait until we in NC have a chance to vote. This election is just getting started. We Hillary supporters want our turn. The yuppies who go to the caucuses should not have so much power. It is great that an Afican-American is running so well, but as a woman....we have waited a long time for our turn too.
