Clinton on air in Wisconsin

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
We wondered in First Thoughts this morning how much Clinton will make a play for Wisconsin where Obama is currently favored. The campaign announced that they are going on air today in the state with an ad focusing on health care, an issue for which she has criticized Obama.

Here's the script for "Obligation":
Announcer: She fought for universal health care, long before it was popular. Got health insurance for six million kids and expanded access to health care for the National Guard. Now, she's the only candidate for President with a plan to provide health care for every American. A top economist calls Hillary's plan, "the difference between achieving universal health coverage and falling far short." If you believe health care is America's moral obligation, join her.
Tuesday. Hillary Clinton.

Clinton: "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message."

The media seem to be missing the big story in the Democratic Primary Elections. Everyone should be asking why Hillary Clinton has been unsuccessful to effectively win the nomination? It is obvious that her campaign was counting on an easy ride to victory, coasting on her name recognition and past history, floating on the gas vapor of good will for Bill Clinton. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both compelling candidates. No one can fault Hillary for not living up to expectations in debates or speeches. She has been an outstanding candidate. So why isn’t she celebrating victory? What happened to her huge lead in the polls? Why did it disappear when the voters got involved? She had collected huge sums of money for her campaign, or did she? News reports indicated that her campaign trove rivaled Obama’s. Where did it go? Why wasn’t her campaign ready to win caucuses? Now the spin is: we don’t do caucuses, just primaries. Huh? You’re running for president in the Democratic Party and you’re not ready to caucus? Maybe she’s too trusting of her advisors? The same advisors who told her to vote for the Iraq war? It would seem she would have such a huge advantage over Obama who is so inexperienced. Who cares if you’re ready to serve on day one if you’re not ready to run for the nomination?
Hillary is the best person for the job. Obama has no clue on where to get started. He can be another civil rights leader.
Jack in VT - well said as I've been in the healthcare industry myself for 30 years.
People - if your primary issues are the economy and healthcare vote for Hillary.  If your primary issue is getting out of Iraq then it's a draw as both candidates' positions on that issue are basically the same.  If your primary issue is the vote that took us into Iraq in the first place then vote Barack.  Personally I'm focused on the economy, healthcare and getting out of Iraq.  A vote for Hillary seems like a no brainer.
Thank you Jack in Burlington. Having worked in hospital accounting for years, I can confirm you are correct. For myself, I'm tired of paying for people who CHOOSE not to have insurance.
Steve in PA: yes, we're a country of free will and personal choice. But, when people make a personal choice not to have health insurance, why should I have to pay for their choice when they get ill?
So you'd rather everone be forced to pay for universal healthcare even the little guys that can't afford it...

its easy to say that they should force everyone to pay when your working in the medical field... but their are people out their that make less than you make in a month in the course of a year... not by choice but by their situation!

A "nice life" as you see these people having is pretty interesting i had a friend that was like you say having a "nice life" until she killed her self... guess it wasnt that wonderful afterall.. dont let outside appearances and, your personal views cloud peoples actual lives...

Who exactly are you to state who CAN and CANT pay for insurance? Are you their banker no... we're an economy that is failing, we've got people desperately trying to make their current bills to save their HOUSES....

If you think hilarys plan is great, now those same people that can't pay their house mortages and are loosing their homes also have to contend with garnished wages... wow thats just great.

Yes everyone should have health care... but they should be ABLE TO HAVE HEALTH CARE EASILY AND CHEAPLY!... They should NOT BE FORCED TO... situations in peoples lives changes.

Mandating health care via things like garnished wages is just a quick fix trying to slap a bandade on the issue, then we'll here that people can't afford to pay their bills because their getting even less monthly due to garnished wages....

Oh hilary doesnt want to garnish wages? Umm well you could have fooled me because when posed with that direct question she never responded.
What about the wage garnishment she is going to enforce along with her universal health care plan?
What about her tax returns that she refuses to make public?Let her be honest with the American people so we can make a choice? This is saying anything to win for Hillary.
Ndali,Clinton,NJ (Sent Tuesday, February 12, 2008 11:32 AM)

NDALI....That's an Obama-Rama-Ding-Dong scare tactic, and a LIE by omission.
Vehicle insurance is MANDATED in all 50 states, and your wages can be garnished to pay for that too.
But, realistically how many times does that happen?
These are people's lives, their health and their well-being we're talking about. The law spends more time concerning itself with who has car insutrance, than it does who has HEALTH insurance.
Mandated coverage also means that nobody can be turned down, and Obama's plan doesn't cover that contingency.
Obama and his followers have name-called, race baited, and LIED their way into the lead for the nomination. I hope your proud of that.
You can be qually as proud to know that Barrack Obama will NEVER get this lifelong Democrat's vote.
I will do all that is in my power, including volunteer work for John McCain, in order to see to it that Obama NEVER sees the inside of "1600" as President. (If Obama gets the nomination.)
Loyal Democrats take heed, our party is being over run by extremeist whackos again.
Please, let's nominate Hillary. She has a chance to win in November.
Let's not cow-tow to the independents and knuckleheads who are trying to con us into nominating someone who will LOSE to John McCain.
(...and you all KMOW that's true!)
I guess I feel Hillary Clinton's language in this ad and in her speeches is deceptive to the general audience.  The lower income audiences who may be less educated and less aware of subtle differences in word connotations might not fully understand that when Hillary says she has "provided health care" she really means she has made it so some people can provide their own health care.

Similarly, her phrase "universal healthcare" (she coined it, but they all use it) is also deceptive because a lot of people think universal means simply that everyone will get healthcare, when it actually means that everyone will have to get healthcare and pay insurance companies because it will be illegal to not have healthcare coverage for yourself and your family.

As a single mother of 3 working two jobs and still at the low income level, I calculated that I may be required by law to pay a about 1/4 of my total yearly income to a health insurance company, just as I am required by law to pay 1/10 of it to a car insurance company. so my insurance will be paid, but we won't be able to eat well.

Someone will probably say there are low income health options out there, to which I would ask: have you ever been to a doctor who accepts Healthwave?  There is a reason why they do.

I guess I just wish someone would just tell us the truth without hiding it in carefully chosen words.  Obviously that someone is not Hillary Clinton.
If obama wins the nomination, Mcain will pick a woman for veep and take alot of moderate women with him. Don't tak Mcain so lightly
It's crazy she trupets this as a victory or a good thing.  Do you people realize the guts of he health care plan?  If you are between jobs you HAVE to buy health care or she fines you.  FINES YOU... even if you don't want it.

Obama's plan give you a freedom of choice and actually confronts the high cost of health care.  Under Hillary's you STILL have to pay for it out of your own pocket.  THE SAME AMOUNT YOU PAY NOW.  And it allows companies to stop insuring you themselves and make you buy your own insurance.  Obama's fights cost and gives you options.

Hillary's plan is a waste of my time and my money.  Yours too.  There is nothing good about it.
It is an outrage the media and ego-maniacs have ignored the exciting and proud historical moment with a woman running for President for the first time, but find it necessary to suppress and belittle her capability and family. However, her opponent is obviously being protected from wallowing in the glass bowl and offering little experience for a job that needs a POWERHOUSE resume.                          GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama supporters need to look at the fact that Obama mentions the problems, but does not have a concrete answer.  He is a wonderful orator.  He does not have the experience.  The few times he has been some-what challenged he has gotten flustered.  Think of what he will do when the Republicans get him in their sights.

I was not a Hillary supporter from the beginning, but I truly think she is the most intelligent, capable person for the job of President at this time.
After acting out and dealing with Bill and Hillary Clinton's escapades when they were in office, who wants to be exposed to that again:  only those whose lives are as sad as theirs.
SHIRLEY L. AR: '...IT IS AN ABSOLUTE SHAME FOR OBAMA TO LAY CLAIM TO ALL OF HILLARY'S PROPOSALS...'

Hillary STOLE John Edwards' health care plans
She's also stealing Obama's ideas.... 'movement' talking with our adversaries, opposing the Iraq war..

What ISN'T in Hillary's ad:

She's taking MASSIVE contributions from Insurance and Pharmaceutical corporations
Guess WHO WILL BENEFIT from Hillary's health plans ?

She's forcing EVERYBODY to buy health insurance from her contributors ?

Hillary Clinton, cold, calculating, dishonest, unethical and civisive
Sierra, SF (Sent Tuesday, February 12, 2008 12:17 PM)

You`ve said it!!
Why would anyone vote for a health care plan the will garnish theor wages if you don`t buy it.

Hell, she has to be one of the craziest people on this planet to think that being forced to buy health care over buying food or paying your rent.
Once you take this kind of action don`t she realize that there will be more people living on the streets, than what she will force the real estate brokers to give you housing and buy food for you.

No HRC plan stink so bad that I can smell it from here.

Obama '08
Hillary has been fighting all her life,it's hard to get legilsation pased, just ask Kennedy he's been trying to do it for years and he hasn't got anywhere. Obama copmlains about the  Cheney energy policies, but he voted for them, wake up America before it's to late,he has no substance, just glowing rhetoric..
I think people need to really be thoughtful in their choice.  Hillary Clinton talks about 35 years of experience in her ads, however, she was only in her own right in elected office for the last 6.  I don't count being first lady of a state nor of the country as "experience."  That's like saying I am a rocket scientist because my husband works at NASA. She was exposed, sure, to things that others may not have been, but she was not in elected office.

Obama, on the other hand, was.  First, working as an organizer is no joke?  Make sure you know what that means - because it means bringing people together to make choices and decisions about people most often forgotten - the poor, the homeless, single moms on welfare, etc.  Then he was elected - check that word - ELECTED to state senate.

I just think people should be informed.  Read their positions.  Think about what CAN be accomplished and who is more likely to get things ACCOMPLISHED!  I don't think Hillary can get anything passed unless we continue with a Democratic House and Senate and even then it's a stretch.  Also, as mid-term elections trend, they switch depending on who's at the top.  Why?  Because most Americans don't like to be snowballed.  So think about who is more likely to get work done with a GOP House/Senate.

Those who are polarizing - or the person who has substantial experience working on both sides of the aisle.

Yes, I support Obama.  He's the right choice for America and where we need to go in the future.

It's not good enough to just go back to what we had in the 90's - we need to go further - we need to expand who we are and how we fit into the global economy for financial reasons and for safety reasons.  Obama is by far the better choice.
Look, we will never have "universal" state mandated health care.  This is not a knock on Hillary or a vote for Obama.  The same issues are championed by candidates in the Democratic party every election cycle, and the profits of the drug companies still go up.  Gas prices are still going to go up.  Poor people are still shown less respect than rich people.

To stay focused on health care, I am beginning to get the sense that voters somehow think they are going to suddenly receive "free" health insurance because a democrat waves a magic wand or something. Hillary's "universal" plan still costs a ton of money.  In order to acheive this pie in the sky health care coverage, our taxes would skyrocket.  I have yet to hear a single person on this or any other site ask to pay a higher tax rate.  European countries with state run health systems charge a much higher tax rate than ours.

In the end, when a president and congress finally grow a pair and stand up to the corporations that have been sucking the life out of this country with totally out of whack profit margins, we may finally get to the point where everyone can afford insurance.
[Here's the script for "Obligation":]
--The title of this ad coincides very well with the Clinton campaign.  Two things I've glaringly noticed: there is an obligation to vote for a Clinton and an obligation of government intervention to solve everyone's ills with Clinton giving of course.

drbob10001: Save your breath Dr. Bob, as no Clinton supporter that I have seen here will listen to reason when it comes to healthcare.

Leave the damn media alone, my goodness!  Some of the Clinton supporters are using the media to drum sympathy for an attacked woman.  Seems to go against the very grain of feminism, and is pretty sad commentary.

It is no different than those who blame the Clintons for initiating the whole race debacle.  No, they did not, it was a topic on the cusp of coming forth and the SC primary gave it the nudge.  Yet, whilst the Clintons did not initiate it, they sure perpetuated the racial divide.

i.m.r.
I don't think her plan can ever become law due to the federal mandates in it.  Obama is the only one with a plan that has a decent shot of making it through congress.
Do you think she can nurse the country from the Bush administration's attacks on the constitution, particularly the eavesdropping on American citizens here in the US. Wonder why she was the only Democrat not to vote today against granting immunity to the telephone companies for their surveillance of us. Obama was there but Clinton has a campaign to worry about. Shameful!
The most distrubing thing about the Clinton campaign is how arrogant and condescending they were in assuming that the nomination was a forgone conclusion. Their "supposed" advantage in organization at the state level was pathetically overrated. And for a Democrat to now be a "big-state" approach at securing delegates is completely anit-Democrat given the grassroots movement we're supposed to reflect. What a Joke. Hillary desrves to lose.
Hillary passed SCHIp? The original SCHIP bill passed in 1997 with Ted Kennedy (D) and Orin Hatch (R). If she wanted to pass healthcare so bad, why didn't she try in her 7 glorious years in the senate? Hillary didn't write any bills, just voted like everyone else. 35 years of "experience"
Conservatives and Obama folks off their meds again this morning!

Don Imus got fired for vulgar comments against black female athletes.

David Shuster goes vulgar and disgusting on a white female and gets a slap on the wrist.

Chris Metthews just goes disgusting and not even a slap on the wrist.

It's not only the on air talent at MSNBC it's the PRODUCERS and the brass at NBC who have supervised this dishonest "coverage".
WoW , you Clinton supporters arent exactly encouraging me to vote for Here...Better be careful how you talk, others are watching
it is amazing the only thing hillary has on obama is this health care plan .which is a big joke not gona pass anywhere.
what happend to experience?
ready from day one ?
coronation?
money 175,000,000 at that all squanderd?
what does this tell you about hillarys character?
Just to let you know, Drs already carry their share of the burden.  Medicare pays next to nothing for services for covered patients.  My grandmother was being treated for cancer.  She was treated with radiation.  The medicare plan paid the hospital $150 for an $1800 procedure.  All other insurance plans-that is private, for profit companies-pay doctors and hospitals based on the medicare rates.  Medicare rates have gone down year after year.  Hospitals close, doctors lay people off because they bring in less and less money to pay employees more in wages and benefits.  Expenses of doing business keep climbing.  The people making money are insurance companies and unreasonable lawsuits.  Meanwhile we all pay more in copays and insurance costs.  Am I the only one who sees a problem here?  Is anyone addressing this problem?

As for Hillary's ideas.  "Change" is something we hear a lot these days since she first lost Iowa.  "Bringing people together" is another.  She sounds more like Obama than herself these days.
Is that you david shuster telling people to get their news from fox you go girl.Serria I only wish I could be there to taste your tears when OBAMMA wins and your dreams of UTOPIA come true
GET A GRASP ON IT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE'
IF THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE SO WELL EDUCATED,
WHY!!!! ARE THEY FOR OBAMA INSTEAD OF HILLARY?
SHE IS SO OBVIOUSLY THE ONE WHO HAS DONE HER HOME WORK.
HILLARY HAS BEN SETTING THE STAGE FOR HEALTH CARE FOR A LONG TIME
NOW IT'S TIME HAS COME AND SO HAS HILLARY'S
REMINDS ME OF A SONG.

ANYTHING HE CAN DO - SHE CAN DO BETTER,
SHE CAN DO ANYTHING BETTER THAN HIM.

NO SHE CAN'T - YES SHE CAN.

YES, SHE CAN-CAN-CAN-CAN.

CAME FROM ANNIE OAKLEY - THE MOVIE.
ANOTHER WOMAN BLAZING A TRAIL ON BEHALF OF WOMEN.

COME ON LADIES
HELP CLOSE THE GENDER GAP I HAVE SEEN ALL OF MY LIFE TOWARD WOMEN.   OUR TIME HAS COME TOO.
For all of you people who think Hillary Clinton is the answer to our health care needs, can any one of you name me even on President who has had a "plan" on which he has campaigned ever signed into law?  Once her "plan" gets to the congress, they will bastardize it, add things to it, water other parts down, and completely change it from her original "plan".  If any of you think Hillary is going to pass health care into law then you're just nuts.  Obama's plan will be able to attract Republican support which is needed in the Senate.  Clinton's "plan" will fail from the start.
If Hillary is having trouble running her campaign with all her FRIENDS around her, how does she plan on running the country with her ENEMIES (republicans)swarming even closer? So much for experience.
Once Obama wins, you Clintonites better fall in line with the dem party. Then we will know who disagreed and who just don't like a black man with power. Obama 08
Hillary failed with her healthcare during her "35 years of experience," she failed internationally by having the american armed forces reduced while other countries were growing.  under their watch were witnessed genocide in over a dozen countries to witch nothing was done, including Rwanda, in which 800,000 people were killed in a three month period. Hillary did nothing then, despite heavy concern from the international community and the american people.  anyone remember whitewater, filegate, travelgate, ron brown, monica, flowers, China's theft of ICBM technology.  It was due to an absent foreign policy by Clinton that lead to an unchecked middle east.  you vote hillary, but my support is behind Obama(I do wish Romney was still in it though).
Obama LIES about his health care plan - to audiences and in TV ads - claiming his plan is universal.
It is NOT!

Oblahma does NOT support universal health care!!
Oblahma OMITS 15M of us - BEFORE he begins his Kumbaya meetings with the Insurance industry.

Oblahma is a sellout to the Insurance industry!

No one is sure what they saying. Why there is no health care in America when Billions are being spent in wars?
I think both plans work and can also fail. Just look at other issues as well. Edwards had a plan, but he is no longer there. Why not get that plan for the winning candidate? If you cannot chose between Obama and Clinton, go for Huckabee.
I think Hillary has a good shot in Wisconsin. Its already the cheese state. She's just bringing the whine.
Once Obama wins, you Clintonites better fall in line with the dem party. Then we will know who disagreed and who just don't like a black man with power. Obama 08

Fall in line what do you think this is?

why do you make it a black/white issue. Giving Obama  the nomination is giving the Reps the win in November.
Obama LIES!!
Hillary's health care plan doesn't force people who can't afford health care to buy insurance.
Health care would be free to low income!!

Why does Obama use Rovian tactics??
Cause Oblahma is a Republicrat!
During the last debate - Obama said he would fine people for back premiums if they didn't sign up voluntarily - and later found they needed health care.

Has pro-Obama misogynist MSNBC mentioned this??
chirp, chirp

If you want a country that garnishes your wages because you do not have health insurance - vote for
Hillary or move to Russia.
Bring back Dave Schuster....a good example of how
the Clintons work.  Now they've scared MSNBC.  Chris
is counting Fla. in the States he gives Hillary.
I was on the fence about Hillary or Obama until I saw Obama's TV ad in Wisconsin.  Using his dead white mother was offensive to me.  He doesn't tell us anything about his health care plan, just that she died of cancer. She worried  about her medical bills. Did she have insurance?  Did he help her with medical bills?  I am a recovering cancer survivor.  I have insurance, but I still have  co-pays.  I would very much object to my children using my illness for any type of persoonal gain.
Universal care for children is backwards anyway. We should be covering their working parents first, working adults next, children of working adults and then adults that dont work and dont produce anything
It doesn't matter if Hillary Wins the nomination, when it comes to the General Election, many African Americans like myself will remember the words coming from the Clinton Campaign... REMEMBER MR. and MRS. Clinton you cannot win in November with less than 45% EVEN a dropoff 0f 5% will spell doom and a McCain Administration.

You cannot Un-Say Words or Un-Do deeds... As far as I'm concerned the damage has been DONE !... You can trot out all the African-American 'Community Leaders' you want Hillary..

I Feel Disrespected and as someone who has supported the Clintons, I feel they have taken the opportunity to show their true face(s)...

* Do ANYTHING To WIN...
* Say ANYTHING To WIN...

And remember those who think the Politics of personal destruction is a winner....

45 Minus 5 = McCain !
There is still time "today" to make that important history changing donation. Just go to hillaryclinton.com , it's real easy.
Health care is one of many issues and unless you feel the republicans will give you a beter deal than you best vote for Obama. He can defeat them. Hillary cannot. Hillary is a grest public servant. Her heart is in the right place. Nevertheless she will reawaken the dark side accross the aisle. The dirt diggers. They will unite completley and defeat Hillary in the general election. For all our sake. Get your own insurance and vote to end republican occupation of the white house. Vote Obama.
Sent in a post to the First Read blog at about 12:30 - never showed up! So I'll try again here! I want to point out that Obama HAS won four of the 17 "Biggest" Electoral states!(those with Electoral votes over 10). I am so tired of this refrain that he has not won big states. Illinois has 21 Electoral votes and is the 5th largest. I know it is Obama's home state but it is Hillary's BIRTHSTATE - and she lost by a very wide margin. (Obama did much better in her state of NY) Obama has also won Georgia which has 15 Electoral votes. He has won Missouri and Washington, each with 11. If he wins VA today that is another of the "Big 17" with 13 Electoral votes. AND - DOES ANYONE SERIOUSLY THINK THAT IF OBAMA IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE THAT HE WILL LOSE NY, NJ, MA, or CA in the FALL TO JOHN MCCAIN??! OF COURSE NOT! Obama has shown he can win in ALL parts of the country - and with lots of INDEPENDENTS and cross-over GOP VOTERS! In a year when Democratic turn-out is DOUBLE that of the GOP, it is VERY likely that Obama will carry both "Purple" and "Red" states like Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Maine, Washington, Colorado, etc. He will make the South competitive in places like VA and Louisiana and Georgia. He will definitely be the stronger Democratic nominee!
hillary is only interested in getting power, she could care less about you or me. people in her position cannot relate to people who have to work everyday, worry about gas prices, food, healthcare and how if we will be able to pay for everything each week. there is not one person holding an office position that has not got his or hers own interest at heart and unless the american people stand up and fight for what is right in the country it will stay this way but yet they keep getting elected and we still keep complaining
Thank you Jack in Burlington. Having worked in hospital accounting for years, I can confirm you are correct. For myself, I'm tired of paying for people who CHOOSE not to have insurance.
oknOK (Sent Tuesday, February 12, 2008 1:02 PM)

You do know that if you own a car and pay insurance, you pay for people who don't have MANDATED AUTO INSURANCE, don't you?
Hillary will MANDATE health care.  Does everyone know what that means???? It's like Plan D.  If you don't take the governments plan YOU ARE FINED. BIG TIME!!!!!  I don't want Mandated Health plan, so I will vote Obama....
Laura from Philly, please tell me the difference between Obama's health care plan and Hillary's?  How is mandating that every buy health care whether they can offord it or not better than just making it more affordable and available and allowing the individual to decide for themselves?

Why anyone would want the government telling them what they can and can't afford and garnishing their wages, is beyond me.

Have you even looked at Hillary's health care plan?  It is not free insurance people.  It is not Canadian/European style universal health care.  WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe it is my own biased side popping up but why
does Obama get so much attention for so little
effort in ever getting anything done.  Where is he
from?  He talks in a big circle could someone tell
me what he is saying?  What does he want to get done?
Help me out here.
