Patti Solis Doyle's rise and fall

Posted: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 2:14 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
First Read friend Josh Green of the Atlantic Monthly -- whose GQ article Team Clinton infamously spiked -- has a very good piece on Patti Solis Doyle's ouster as manager of the Clinton campaign. Do read the entire article, but here is the gist:

"For the many people in and around Washington who obsess over the latest machinations in Hillaryland, the firing of Solis Doyle—and she was fired, several insiders confirm—is a big deal, but for reasons somewhat different from what the media coverage has suggested. Her title of 'campaign manager' implies a loftier role than the one she actually played. She is the furthest thing from a Rove-like strategic genius (Mark Penn inhabits that role for Hillary), so her leaving doesn’t signify an impending change of strategy, as some reports seem to assume. Rather, Solis Doyle, who began as Clinton’s personal scheduler in 1991 (and who, as it happens, coined the term 'Hillaryland') was Clinton’s alter ego and was installed in the job specifically for that reason."

More: "Her performance in Clinton’s past races and especially in this one reflects all the good and the bad that the alter-ego designation carries. I’ve always felt that the most revealing thing about Solis Doyle is her oft-repeated line: 'When I’m speaking, Hillary is speaking.' It is revealing both because it is true and because it conveys—and even flaunts—an arrogance that I think is the key to understanding all that has gone wrong for the Clinton campaign."

The only true test to determine who is ready to be President is how he/she organizes and runs the campaign.  How the campaign handles the pressures of the media, deals with a crises internal and external, raises money, hires and leads good staff, reacts to mistakes, and this year controls the spouses and surragates is part of the test.

Based on this test:
McCain: B
Clinton: C-
Obama: A+

Obama is ready now.
As a former dem, it's good to see my former mates recognizing the Clintons for their arrogant, cynical and manipulative ways.  I'm one republican who's not rooting for Hillary, because I'd enjoy a national debate between Obama and McCain.  A real choice on real issues, and frankly the country will benefit with either as winner.
Unless they caught her with her pockets full of stolen swag, they should have left her right where she was. How bad does it look getting clipped just before the election.
What insight and pleasantries we share on this miserable cold nasty day in February.

considering all that has happened in both the Obama and clinton campaigns... it looks as though the real person of leadership is motivating the most people, which is what leadership is about. Leader cast vision... managers make changes to reach the vision.
You decide who fits which description.
"It's time to put this corrupt and integrity void family behind us." Adam/NYC (Sent Tuesday, February 12, 2008 2:41 PM)

Hey Adam, Guess, the Kennedy's and loser Kerry are a family full of Integrity. I did not realize that Drunkness, rape charges, Driving off into the lake and getting people killed are values of integrity.

i am a moderate Republican and am enjoying the show that the Dems are putting on. In 2004 we had 'Dumb and Dumber' now we have 'Dumb and Dumberer' Keep up the screw up...I mean good work and McCain will win. I hope Osama...I Mean Obama wins the nomination. He will be a pushover for the Republican machine. Clintons would have been a tougher fight. So right now McCain is smiling with glee.
Hillary is far too "What have you done for me lately?" and always trying to be one step ahead of the polls. If she had convictions and stuck with them (caveat: unlike the current administration, she'd have to use some common sense) I would have more respect for her as a leader and as a person. But her sloppy overspending and constant course-changing make me certain that she is not equipped to be our next president. And I want a woman to be president! I have dreamed of seeing that since I was a child. But Hillary Clinton is just not the right woman for that job.

That's why I support Obama in '08! He has common sense, integrity, sound judgement, good foresight, and it is also important to note his ability to inspire people and bring them together.
Wow. I encourage everyone to read the full article.  It almost feels like Josh Green is actually holding back in his assessment of the Clinton campaign, which is hard to believe considering...
Maybe the Hispanics shouln't have fallen for the oke doke....I saw this one coming from 2 miles away...
Anthony, Ocean Calif, you are right on the money.  Wonder what percentage of Mexican votes Hillary will get in Texas and Ohio?  She is making some harmful moves for herself.
Clinton's still don't believe the law and rules apply to them as well. The DNC took the delegate away from Florida and Michigan for moving their primaries up and now that Hillary won both states she wants them back. If Obama had won them she would be satisfied to leave them gone. When are the Dems who accuse the Republicans of everything going to open their eyes toe these people. The old scandals, lies etc of the Clintons. It took less time to take Baghdad then it took her to find the Rose billing records that were in the White House. Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn.
As a American of Mexican ancestory, I often wonder what the Clintons have ever done for the Hispanic, Latino or Chicano communities. This most recent dismissive attitude towards Solis is glimpse of what you can expect when you become moot in her scheme of things to come. Can't seem to trust a women who didn't have the moral character to do the right thing when Bill was having his way with his true love and her constant lying about events. Mini-Bush is how I see her. Obama might not be ready on day one, but at this point a fresh perspective is what we need, not the same ole' politician. Another thing I always wonder is, when Hillary claims to have 35 years experience, I often wonder doing what? Wife, Mother, First Lady, Lawyer, failed business women.....
Yes trey she is quite transparent and now the clintons have moved into panic mode by playing black vs whites to save their campaign. The only group that seems to be buying it are latinos. But my latino brothers and sisters are beginning to see through her as well.
Democrats are lucky to have Obama.  Hillary's camp is a mess.  First they lost the black vote and now they are in jeopordy of losing the hispanic vote.  The republicans would have crushed her.  Good thing the failings of her campaign are getting exposed now instead of in the general.  Thank goodness for Obamas disciplined campagn; we will need it in the general.
What if the change was intended to stir-up resentment of blacks by latinos, betting that HRC's rationale is more forgivable than BHO blackness?  Just a thought given how calculating these elections can be.
For everyones information......Doyle is not leaving the campaign. She will personally be traveling with Hillary on her campaign stops as Hillary's Senior Campaign Advisor.. Doyle asked for that position.
Now let's get back to all the Obama followers of whom, not even one could say what Obama had ever done in the senate. Very strange when you think we're electing the President of the United Sates of America. Who are these people?  This is not a "who gives the best dream speech" contest. You better be thinking about the security of our country!
Might it be possible that Doyle was not the best candidate to energize Hill's slumping campaign regardless of her ethnicity, silly me, I thought she was an American. I am by no mean's pro-Hillary or Obama but I think it is important to focus more on the issues versus their gender or ethnicity.
Bill came to Va and talked about forgiving student loans for Teachers.... how can you not support a candidate that wants that type of education compensation?
Sources here in Iowa, namely NBC affiliate WHO TV, Channel 13, report that invoices are not being paid by the Clinton's after repeated requests for payment and promises to pay for services prior to and during the caucuses.  It has also been reported by the national media that the former "campaign manager" was "let go" because she spent too much money in Iowa where she finished THIRD.  Hillary will be outdone by her own ambitions, and will have no one to blame but herself.
Is this is the camp we want to put up against the GOP. What incompetance. The so called "Clinton Machine" is a big fat fairytale.

If you really think about it the Clintons never really won a tough general election.  Clinton won his first term because of Ross Perot and his second term was won against Bob Dole, Bob Dole, HaHaHa!!!

You people better be happy that the incompetance got exposed now, instead of in the general.
You can feel it in the air.  Spring is almost here and this primary campaign is just about over.

Tonight victory will continue its bloom for Obama, and the harsh weather of the past will continue to recede.

Obama's supporters will continue to provide the seed money we need for a bountiful harvest.
Hillary will make the best President!  I am sick of Obama's hype and all     `the 'Free Publicity that the Media has bestowed on him. Where is the substance of his strategy for change.  All I here is "Yes we can" and Change. I have yet to hear how he will make change other than generalities. He is a cheerleader taking advantage of  people's frustration with the current Administration.
I will vote Republican before I vote Obama, and I have heard many say the same.
GO HILLARY  It's not over yet!!!
Obama rocks.  Clinton will be business as usual.  The corporations and pacs that are supporting her do not want change.  If Solis Doyle really was a personal assistant and not the grand strategist firing her in order to hire an African American for the Potomac primaries was a despicable act.

Better blind and naive...

than deaf and dumb.

Haven't been naive for about 40 years, but blind... I'll cop to being farsighted.

Here's to all our blind and naive countrymen and women who know the difference between a rock and a hard place.

Hillary Clinton is the best candidate to lead this country for the next four years, regardless of who is or isn't managing her campaign.

Different candidates have different qualities and strengths, I'm sure.  Senator McCain is a patriot and experienced public servant.  Senator Obama is intelligent, inspiring, and popular - with good reason.

But what Americans have to decide is which candidate has the leadership qualities that America needs in a president at this particular juncture.  Our country is in crisis- the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, the recession, a broken healthcare system, and our tarnished reputation in the world are significant problems that must be solved now. With that in mind, we need a president who  understands these issues and who is BEST qualified to deal with them. McCain wants us to remain in Iraq indefinitely and knows little about economics.  Obama has only two years of experience at the national level and does not have the maturity or the political acumen of Senator Clinton.

Millions of children are insured because of Clinton's work with the S chip program; the Vital Voices program she founded with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was a catalyst in the Irish peace process and continues to provide innovative approaches to problem solving at home and abroad; Clinton has spent years on the Armed Services Committee; and she presented the first, most comprehensive, and best recieved economic stimulus package of all the candidates.

She has shown herself to be a leader with fresh ideas rather than a follower. Witness her stimulus package (Remember Obama playing catch-up when he presented a much less detailed plan three days after Clinton presented hers? )She is also the candidate who led the first charge for changing our health care system, when even Mentioning universal healthcare was unpopular. And Clinton was the first candidate to say she would stop giving tax breaks to American companies that shipped jobs overseas, yet another example of how she leads rather than follows.

Senator Clinton has the experience, maturity, intelligence, work ethic, and record we should want in the next president.  McCain and Obama certainly have good qualities and impressive skills, but theirs are not the particular qualities and skills needed to solve America's most Pressing problems in the next four years. Clinton is the most qualified person to be president for the next four years. Her skills, not theirs, are the ones best suited to pulling us out of the mire the Republicans put us in.
The Repubs WANT you to think they want Clinton, but the easier prey would be Obama. Notice just how very glowing Kristol's remarks read for Obama. If the media thought Bill was tough on thin-skinned Barackito, wait till the Rove and Atwater types get hold of him. Perhaps McCain will realize his obsession. We'll never learn.
She will trust bin Laden and the Mullas of theTaliban to run her government agencies. Seriously though, presidents need to stop rewarding loyalty with loyalty and favor with favor. They have to reward hard work with a job that best suits that hard worker. Otherwise the president is presiding over a government by corruption ruled by crooks. That is what happened to Bush, especially that he tried to stuff federal courts with conservatives so freakin out of touch with realities and caring more about their ideologies than the needs of the public (except a minority of hard core hypocritical conservatives).
Bottom Line:

It looks like you got some vote fraud hanky-panky, and selling of votes going on in the democratic caucuses. Obama seems to be doing disproportionately well in the caucuses where it is easier to commit vote fraud, and sell votes. Obama has not been doing as well in the non caucus primary's where you can't cheat the vote as easily.

I smell a pole cat. I smell the Karl Rove vote fraud machine at work. This looks like past presidential elections where most voters leaving the poles said they voted for the other guy. But Bush still won. No wonder Obama thinks the republicans have some good ideas. Apparently a lot of republicans are voting for Obama in the democratic caucuses.

The insurance companies, and medical industry that have been ripping you off, and killing you are determined to keep you, the American people from having good universal health care. So it seems they are supporting Obama. Along with the republican vote fraud machine.

This looks like a great story for a team of aggressive investigative reporters. Or maybe some good documentary film makers like Michael Moore, or Oliver Stone.

If I were the Clinton's, I would focus like a laser bean on what has been going on in the democratic caucuses. No wonder the Republicans like Obama so much. Looks like he's their man in the democratic caucuses. http://prorev.com/2008/02/in-search-of-obama.html

I'm absolutely convinced now that Hillary Clinton is your best choice for good universal health care coverage. And HR 676  (Medicare For All). "Single payer, Tax Supported, Not For Profit, True Universal Health Care" free for all as a right. Like every other developed country in the world has. See:  http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.htm

"HR 676:
For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more.
Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills."

They really think you are all stupid, inattentive cash cows... It may be time to bring back Bad Bill, Good Bill.
if someone believes that mccain can knock obama out in three rounds then we need not concern ourselves with the thoughts and knowledege of that individual. either democratic candidate will beat mccain. just ask the obamacans. lol

go obama
sHE CHOSE PATTY SOLIS DOYLE BECAUSE SHE WAS HISPANIC!! NOW OBAMA IS STEALING AWAY THE BLACK VOTE(WHICH THE CLINTONS BELIEVED WAS IN THE BAG) SO SHE TOSSED OUT SOLIS AND GOT A BLACK WOMAN!! NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT- ALSO SOLIS DOYLE WAS HER APPOINTMENT SCHEDULER!! WHAT WAS SHE DOING RUNNING HER PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN, OH YEAH SHE WAS HISPANIC
Oh give it up Clinton supporters, You dont trust her, We dont trust her as Obama supporters, and We cant trust her as Americans. Barack Obama may be the only hope we have to leave our children a country worth living in. Barack Obama plans to do something with his hope. In all your experience, Hillary, what have you signed and stood behind?? Hmmm I cant think of one thing since 1980 and I cant even remember that personally. In an age of internet, we dont take your word, because we can look online and find your voting record. Try to fool someone else. I am a woman, I am Latina, I am a Texan, and most of all I am American. Im 100% for Obama, our only hope for a United America
I am not shocked at these recent occurrences.  I felt all along that Hillary Clinton would do whatever necessary to get the votes of Latinos and women including that fake crying spell she did in the coffee house a few weeks before Super Tuesday.  That woman is pathetic!
Why Billary's Campaign manager Solis Doyle had to go!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) She was infamous among her colleagues for referring to herself as
“the queen bee” .

2)  Her habit of watching daytime soap operas in her office.

3) Did not return calls to donors and outside advisers.

4) The campaign had hemorrhaged money, which Solis Doyle had managed to
conceal.

5) She’d been placed in charge of the campaign’s relationship with John
Kerry and hoped to get an
endorsement, but he’d chosen to back Obama.

6) Solis Doyle, as (Senate) campaign manager, had burned through more
than $30 million.

7) She’d been dispatched to Iowa to oversee operations in the final
weeks before the caucuses, and Clinton still finished third

8) Solis Doyle has developed a reputation for mucking around in the
weeds, insisting upon signing off on even low-level decisions, such as
where to hold a minor event and whether bagels or donuts should be
served. (That's not a hypothetical.)

9)  Solis Doyle is a toxic blend of insecurity (about her abilities) and
arrogance (about her proximity to the boss).

10) Behaves like a  Mexican house cleaner on Fiesta and the home owner
is out of town..........

I really wish people weren't so against women as leaders enough to vote for a black man to ensure she does not succeed. You know what I mean.
