Clinton's soldiers ad in Texas

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum
With high stakes rolling on her performance in the March 4 states, the Clinton campaign is going up with another television ad in Texas. Called "Voice Soldiers," the ad stresses Clinton's efforts to "give voice to those who have none."

"For every soldier who serves so bravely over there but is ignored over here, she hears you," an announcer says, before then touting Clinton's work to help the National Guard. This ad is now the fifth ad to be running in Texas. The campaign has two ads running in Wisconsin and one ad running in Ohio.

Script:
Announcer: For every soldier who serves so bravely over there but is ignored over here, she hears you. For every National Guard and Reservist who leaves their family behind, she hears you. That's why Hillary Clinton reached across the aisle, to expand access to health care for the National Guard, and is pushing to protect the bonuses of wounded soldiers. She'll never stop fighting for those who fight for us and give voice to those who have none. Hillary Clinton: I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Those brave service men and women shouldn't have been sent there in the first place.

I can't see how Team Hillary runs a commerical on the war without simultaneously bringing up her blunderous vote in support of the war.  It's there.  It will always be there.  And this commercial only reminds of that mistake which she never admitted was a mistake...

other than that, good commercial
Whew!  for a minute there I thought she would have REAL soldiers talking in that video of their support for her, cause I wouldn't be able to understand how they could support her especially since she voted for the war.
"She hears you"?  Is she running for President, or Queen?

Otherwise, a solid advertisement.  I'd love a fact-check on her claims, though (as I would for every ad that First Read posts here, regardless of candidate).
This is how she plans to get back in the contest?  She voted to send young men and women who had "no voice" into George Bush's never ending, worthless war.  She then has the gall to sell her fighting for their health care as a virtue.
She respects the military when she wants their votes, but some of us remember the horrible way she treated the Marines at the white house. Telling them to wear civilian clothes because the uniform, a sign of our honor and commitment to corp and country, made her uncomfortable. Telling the Marines to "Get the hell out of my way".

Yeah, she cares about something, but her track record doesn't point to the military.
I don't understand this approach.  She voted for the war...
Senator Clinton admits she did not read the intelligence briefing before she voted to authorize War in Iraq.  Shouldn't she explain her failure to read the rationale for war to our military men and women in uniform?  Heck, shouldn't she explain this to us, the American people?  Sometimes I think Senator Clinton thinks the war was just fine, just poorly executed.  This by the way is exactly what Senator McCain believes.

Senator Obama, on the otherhand, was against this "dumb war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics" from the beginning precisely because it diverted our attention from those who attacked us -- Al Qaeda.  Indeed, Senator Obama was prescient when he said:

"I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.  I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than the best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda."  Barack Obama, Fall 2002-- before Senator Clinton voted to authorize the use of military force in Iraq.

Yes we can America -- with President Obama we can once more rest assured that our President has the judgment to be our Commander in Chief.

Is there a reason why only Clinton commercials are posted here? It is becoming a pretty obvious trend and I can't think of a rational explanation . . . I'm trying not to accuse First Read of anything sinister, so what's the deal?
I hope the voices of soldiers are heard. The vast majority support Obama!
Four straight Clinton stories....

What will the Clintonistas snivel about now ?

Do these stories fawn over the Clintons, enough ?
Oh! That's why she voted for the AUMF! Because she "never stop[s] fighting for those who fight for us[.]"

I went to Iraq twice because she supports me. Nice logic.
Help them the way we best can, get them out of Iraq and back to their families. I trust Obama to be able to get the support needed to end this war well. I hope Texas voters see that Obama's diplomatic strategy in the region is more practical and more likely to work.
Out of desperation she now panders to the military vote and the blue dogs.  Oh boy, wasn't this an issue during the previous primaries?  This just seems like phony contrive balogna.  All she can do now is react and try to run a two minute political mile.
That's why Hillary Clinton reached across the aisle and voted to authorize President Bush's war in Iraq.
Mrs Clinton
You represent our future for our U.S.A. May God bless you and keep you safe.
BUT HILLARY DID YOU NOT VOTE FOR THE WAR?
So once again, she steals flat out from Obama??  He's been arguing this since his campaign started!  I guess she DOES take notes during the debates...Yes, they HAVE had debates already!  Too many.
Wasn't that wounded soldier bonus revocation thing proved to be bogus a few months ago? Am I wrong on this? How is she fighting against something that doesn't exist?
this coming from the women, who helped send these men and women into harms way.
That sounds so moving.  Not!  This is one Texan who doesn't want anymore Clintons.
for some one who voted for the war what a joke
OH PUL-LEEZE!!!!! My son served with the Honor Guard in Washington, DC when the Clintons were in the White House.  She treated all of the service men and secret service like crap!!!! She burned a lot of bridges and it's showing.  I am a woman--I believe a woman can be president---but, not her.
This is kind of like when Bill Clinton cut the heck out of military spending after which my father, a twenty year veteran of the Marine Corp with three tours in Vietnam, had his Military medical coverage cut drastically.  My parents now have to buy private insurance and can only rely on Military benefits for catastrophic events.

I guess if Billy Boy had served in Vietnam he may have made different choices.  Hey Clinton, thanks for not inhaling, although maybe you should have!
The best thing Hillary Clinton could do for soldiers is end the war in Iraq. Better yet, she shouldn't have voted for it in the first place. Too little, too late, Hill.

Support our troops by bringing them home to their families. Enough is enough.
Yeah, she hears you AFTER she voted to let Bush send you to an unneeded war!

Hillary doesn't care about the soldiers, only their votes.  Footsoldiers are beneath her; she's an aristocrat.
Hillary Clinton will be the comeback kid, just like her husband. They will give her the larger share of Michigan and Florida delegates she deserves and the superdelegates will come back to her. Hillary Rodham Clinton will be our next candidate because she is the best and most viable one. Obama will slowly be exposed as the fraud he really is.
As a veteran I will only say this...She would have not have had to reach across the aisle if she had not voted to start this war in the first place.
To:  Alan in NJ,

I have taken the liberty of reposting your comments from 9:57 AM today because you are spot on.  I have posted several comments over the last several days regarding the exact same issue, Obama’s Health PLAN.  Like you, I have taken exact quotes from Obama’s website, and have taken exact quotes from the transcript from the CNN debate on January 31, in California that Mr. Obama has made in reference to his Health PLAN.

All of the Obama supporters are good at making comments about what the Clinton’s or anyone else they take the liberty of mentioning has done wrong or that they don’t agree with.  Obama’s supporter are quick to tell everyone that his plan does have substance and they go as far as to TELL everyone to go to his website and see for yourself.

Like you, I too went to his website.  Not only did his website provide the source of my information, but it also allowed for the discovery of the enourmous holes in not only his Health PLAN, but many others. As a result I will continue to post the comments that I have assembled that take exact quotes from Mr. Obama’s website and other verifable sorces that refute and call into question the validity of his claims since knowone else seems to want to discuss these very important topics that Mr. Obama is misleading his followers and attempting to mislead the rest of our country about.

Finally, just as with my posted comments, for all of Mr. Obama’s followers ability to make hate filled brash comments, they have yet to refute the comments posted by you or I, instead they just move on by and continue to make more useless comments that show them for the people that they are.

Here is the comment from Alan in NJ as posted earlier today.

Jaycee, here are the specifics of the plan that has so many holes in it.  This is from the BO website.

This is why I think there shoulbe a debate (or even a speech to answer these points)

Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress.

Is this a goverment program?  If so will this not encorage businesses to drop health insurance as now the goverment is offering a subsidized program?

Employer Contribution: Employers that do not offer or make a meaningful contribution to the cost of quality health coverage for their employees will be required to contribute a percentage of payroll toward the costs of the national plan. Small employers that meet
certain revenue thresholds will be exempt.

No details?

Mandatory Coverage of Children: Obama will require that all children have health care coverage. Obama will expand the number of options for young adults to get coverage, including allowing young people up to age 25 to continue coverage through their parents'
plans.

How will this mandate be enforced?

Subsidies. Individuals and families who do not qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP but still need financial assistance will receive an income-related federal subsidy to buy into the new public plan or purchase a private health care plan.

At what income levels would this subsidy be available?  Would it be regional due to the higher cost of living in certain areas?  Would this subsidy cover employer based insurance?

Guaranteed eligibility. No American will be turned away from any insurance plan because of illness or pre-existing conditions.

Would this mandate to insurance companaies not raise costs?  If so, how does this encourage an increase in competition that is also mentioned in your plan?

Simplified paperwork and reined in health costs.

Has anybody in your campaign done a study of the effort required by consumers, providors and payors that support such a goal?  From my personal experience payers are all for electronic systems as it would reduce their costs but providors have no incentive to install such systems as the ROI cannot justify it for thousands of individual medical offices.  Do you plan to offer incentives or subsudies to providors?

Tackle disparities in health care. Obama will tackle the root causes of health disparities by addressing differences in access to health coverage and promoting prevention and public health, both of which play a major role in addressing disparities. He will also challenge the medical system to eliminate inequities in health care through quality measurement and reporting, implementation of effective interventions such as patient navigation programs, and diversification of the health workforce.
Require full transparency about quality and costs. Obama will require hospitals and providers to collect and publicly report measures of health care costs and quality, including data on preventable medical errors, nurse staffing ratios, hospital-acquired
infections, and disparities in care. Health plans will also be required to disclose the percentage of premiums that go to patient care as opposed to administrative costs.

Two different points in the plan that will require collection and processing by providors to meet goverment reporting requirements.  Will these new requirements not add to costs?  How many nurses, nursing assistants etc. will be tied up with reporting requirements rather performing patient care?  Speak to any nurse and find out how much of their time is already taken up due state reporting requirements.

These are just a few of the points from his healthcare program.  In my opinion it doesn't add up.

Also, regarding the comment by BO that people who become ill and are only required to pay back premiums makes no sense. (This can be found on the CNN debate transcript)

1) How far back must they pay their premiums? (a month, a year, since the system starts?)
2) If they cannot pay are they refused treatment?
3) Why buy insurance at all?  It would make more sense to the individual to put the premiums in a savings account, and if you get ill there's no penalty.  If you don't get ill as BO puts it "you have gamed the system".

Point 3 is also the crucial one when talking about lowering costs.  How can you lower the costs of a premium based system when fewer people are paying?  The point about everybody being mandated into the system immediately increases the number of premiums and the cost of premiums to all go down.

BTW I personally believe that a single payer system with no insurance companies is the way to go.

Barack Obama angered fellow Democrats in the Illinois Senate when he voted to strip millions of dollars from a child welfare office on Chicago's West Side. But Obama had a ready explanation: He goofed.

"I was not aware that I had voted no," he said that day in June 2002, asking that the record be changed to reflect that he "intended to vote yes."

That was not the only misfire for the former civil rights attorney first elected to the state Senate in 1996. During his eight years in state office, Obama cast more than 4,000 votes. Of those, according to transcripts of the proceedings in Springfield, he hit the wrong button at least six times.

I hope he knows the what is the correct button if he becomes commander in chief.
I AM CANADIAN AND THIS MESSAGE IS  RIGHT ON.  I WANT TO KNOW WHY NO ONE IS CHALLANGING OBAMA ON HIS MESSAGE .HE DID NOT VOTE FOR THE WAR......WELL HE CERTAINLY VOTED EACH TIME TO GIVE MONEY TO KEEP THE WAR GOING .SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT TOPIC TO ME.HE SHOULD BE ASKED THIS AT THE NEXT DEBATE.YOU ALL ARE SO EASY ON HIM.
She supports troops all right, just like her husband who devasted the armed forces with budget cuts and downsizing and benefit reductions. And from the 93 WTC bombing to the US embassy bombings around the globe to the USS Cole, nearly a dozen times Clinton said, "We will take action" and "We will hold these terrorists accountable" but not ONE day did he try to pursue bin Laden and the others involved in those bombings. CLINTONS are the reason bin-Laden thought he could get away with 9/11 and thus the reason the current president went off on a crusade sending us all over God's sandy Earth.

Why else do you think there is an infamous picture of a soldier shaking her hand while CROSSING HIS FINGERS. Good man, good soldier.
Dear Senator Obama,

Please save us from the debacle of Hillary Clinton.

Signed,

The increasing numbers of the Democrat's electorate
Maybe she shouldn't have voted to authorize the war in the first place? ...That would have done the soldiers a lot more good.
Hillary Clinton was FOR THE IRAQ WAR before she WAS AGAINST IT

Hillary voted FOR THE IRAQ WAR without reading the National Intelligence Estimate
She supported the WAR
She defended the WAR

When public opinion turned against the war...
Hillary Clinton FLIP FLOPPED

Iraq has NEVER attacked us, Iraq has NEVER threatened us
Hillary Clinton voted for an unjust and illegal war

Hillary's foreign policy advisore, Richard Holbroke, Madeline albright and (sneak thief) Sandy Berger ALL SUPPORTED WAR !!

That's why she voted for Kyl-Lieberman
Hillary is a pro-war demagogue

Change the mind set, change the 'leadership'

OBAMA '08
She hears you... She counts your votes. After that its chao.. Or if the statistics indicate you votes doesn't matter or you won't swing, then fire the campaign manager, who recommended that they could swing your votes, and chao again
Great ad.  I am solidly with Obama but this ad will appeal to Latino voters who are extremely reverential to the military and their families.  It's no secret we serve in disproportionate numbers.  There is also a strongly maternal appeal which Ann Richards used effectively.
Go Hillary,
Very inspiring, she will work hard for our veterans and all the American people including children.Keep fighting Hillary, you have had an uphill battle trying to campaign and fight off all the negative press from all the so called Journalist and Pundits, that try to destroy you on there news programs everyday. Your a fighter and thats what we need for this Country. Hold your head up and we will stop watching the cable station that continue trash you and see where there ratings go. Word of advise to the cable news, keep your nasty opions to yourself or at your dinner table and leave the choice for President of the US. up to the people.
Dear Hillary,I am so glad you took up the conditions of our soldiers. It is one thing I wanted you to talk about, especially since ,the Bush Whitehouse is trying to take back bonus's.Plus bringing troops home one day early to avoid paying them,in the latest Veteran Publication, other disabled veterans such as myself from the Veitnam era see what is happening. Please check out the sad ,disgusting pay scale that these kids are dying for. When was the last time you heard that military wives and families had to ask for food stamps,it is happening now.If they want to play games over PTSD,look at the history of other wars. Also I feel it is very important that you make it clear that you voted for the resolution to discuss the war,but not to go,because ,Bush and his team decided for themselves without the ok from Congress or Senate, which I believe is illegal.I am an independent voter at this time because the last few election have been so,not real.I think you should speak to other independants and unaffiliated voters, because I think there will be a big surpeise in the general election.I live in Ct. but am from Texas,I have a very large family there and have been working on your behalf,my sister Ruby Lyman has written to youmany times, she cannot afford to contribute money, but would love to feel involved, let us help, please verify what I have said here it is very important in my view, truly your supporter,Bernetta Rosati
Does she realize that those fine people wouldn't need her to be their voice if it weren't for the illegal war she voted for
I am praying soooooooo hard that Obama gets this nomination. I am so tired of the clintons changing their platform, they are sooo pitiful. It was experience, now it is solutions. they are throwing everything out there to win now.
Does she realize that those fine people wouldn't need her to be their voice if it weren't for the illegal war she voted for
Anyone else seen the picture of Hillary shaking hands with a soldier whose fingers are crossed? Priceless, and the best representation of the facts.
You have got to be kidding me. Hillary is so seperated from the true struggles of the average United States citizen that now she politicizing being injured in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. These issues are very real for many of us that have served or are direct family members. If Hillary was really concerned, she should of never voted for the war. Instead of lending her campaign $5 million dollars to wards her campaign (for an election that is purely an ego stroke for her), she could of donated to the many charities that help families impacted by crippling effects of serving in the Military and the National Guard.
I think that this is a good idea, but the interesting thing is, that many people have a viserally negative reaction to Mrs. Clinton. Therefore her point about being the candidate that can get it done rather than the candidate that just talks about it ( Obama )is wrong. In fact the candidate that inspires America will have a much better chance of moving legislation.
Hillary supporters dont you think your candidate shows a lack of dignity and integrity for going against her signed pledge and agreement before the campaign about Mich and Florida. Now she wants those delegates to count. If Obama had done that you all would be calling him a lie and a cheat. Please tell the clintons to get some integrity and dignity. ?They always want to change the rules. They represent scandals and dirty politics
Wow...who knew that Sen. Clinton was the only candidate running ads?  This is the 3 ad for Sen. Clinton that you've given free press for AND a transcript.

Hope that bucket doesn't get too heavy.
I think the ad was well done. I support the one who opposed this Dumb War from the beginning..Barack Obama. The men and women in uniform knows who has had and always will have their backs! Hillary's team did a nice job on the ad so I give them credit for that. We just want to know when it came to voting to send them there- what did she say THEN?
Obama voted NO to the war in Iraq ONCE ... all other votes pertaining to Iraq were identical to that of Clintons .. For Obama to say that he's been against the war since the beginning when his voting record is identical to that of Clintons is misleading the american people. In end, I guess he does fit the profile of a politician ..say whatever is necessary to win those votes ..
I don't believe Barack Hussien could have voted yes or no on the war, because I don't believe he was in the Senate then.  So, how do we know how he would have voted?  It's easy to sit in another state and say what you would have done.  Had he been in the Senate at that time, who knows, he would have probably voted yes like he has ever since he got to the Senate.  Just a thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

GO HILLARY.  I voted for you in Tennessee and I will vote for you again in November against McCain.
