Bill blames Obama for candidates' ouster

Posted: Saturday, February 16, 2008 3:00 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Continuing his swing through eastern Texas last night, Bill Clinton continued to slam Obama's discounting of "fights" of the past, even saying that Obama's argument can be blamed for the elimination of Democratic candidates who have already dropped out of the race.

"If you fought you made somebody mad, and you got cut up," he said, parodying what he says is Obama's "explicit argument" against Clinton. "We just have to turn over a new leaf. And it is actually an advantage not to have any experience because then you never made anybody mad."

Clinton added that the strategy of equating experience with the taint of partisan injury "has been very effective in this campaign."

"It has already taken four candidates out, four good candidates out," he said. "And it would have taken Hillary out if she didn't have so much grassroots support and so much guts in the face of a lot of what has happened here. "

Bill Clinton added that Hillary believes in solutions, not speeches. He says that might be "a generational thing." But, in the same breath, he also touts his own speechmaking ability.

The former president often closes his remarks by saying that his wife will "keep score" by evaluating whether or not she has made positive changes in the lives of Americans. Tonight, he added, "Maybe it's a generational thing" -- continuing in his theme today of a little light sarcasm at the expense of Barack Obama and his supporters. "But it's always the way I've kept score."

Clinton went on to tout -- at length -- his own speech-making abilities, as if to one-up the crowds of tens of thousands appearing at Obama's rallies in recent weeks. "I've been told I give a pretty good speech," he said, grinning. He mentioned attendance of over a million at a speech in Africa, and over 100,000 when he spoke at the Brandenburg Gate after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"I know the importance of words and inspiration," he said.

OMG, what a depressing guy...please lock him in some room somewhere

http://thememlingindex.com/hillary_clinton_net_worth-wealth.html
just give it up Bill.

Right Bill , we are stuck with this inexperienced pie in the sky guy!  Where is Biden and Edwards and the men of substance.  Seems the deck was stacked and we got robbed and handed a dead fish, it smells!
Give em hell Bill you are so much smarter and braver than they are, you can make em mad too, I love it!
I'm sure everyone at the Berlin Wall showed up to see Bill give a speech.  Reality is something this guy seems to struggle with on a daily basis.
There is just so much wrong with Bill's comments.  Grassroots support for Hillary?  The reason she's still in the race at all is because she and (mostly) Bill have called in all their chits to get the support of a bunch of the superdelegates, and because they got $140MM in campaign contributions, largely from lobbyists.  How is that "grassroots"?
Bill just can't help but make this about himself.  Yes Bill, you gave good speeches but the 90's are over, you served your two terms and now you give speeches to corporations for $450,000 a pop.  So I guess Hillary is wrong - speeches do pay your mortgage (in fact they paid off yours completely) and put food on your table.  Heck, they even pay for a presidential campaign - to the tune of $5 million.

Go away Bill, your ego and delusions of self grandeur are getting old and your ridiculous and inaccurate statements about Senator Obama not only sound increasingly desperate but are offensive.  Your and your wife’s continued obsession with power and greed are not only gross but risk ripping apart the Democratic Party and giving the neo-cons at least another four years of power.  But of course ripping apart the Party has never really bothered you before, as exemplified by the 1994 Congressional elections.

My, oh my, what will Bill Clinton do should Barack Obama win the nomination.  Will he continue to blatantly smear the Democratic candidate in the face of John McCain?  He should focus on building up his wife, not tearing down her opponent.
"If you fought you made somebody mad, and you got cut up... ...And it is actually an advantage not to have any experience because then you never made anybody mad."

Let's see, Bill...  Why do you have to fight in the first place?  Someone/God save us if she is elected!!!
Love me some Bill!  Give em hell Clintons!!
Hillary 08!!
Doesn't Prez Bill get it? His ego can't get out of the way of the real candidate, his wife. He may turn some Clinton fans on with this type of campaign speech, but I think it turns as many or more people off. The main reason that we have two candidates left is the others couldn't raise $$$ like these final two.
uh...his words about experience and speeches leave me speechless.

I am so disappointed in Bill Clinton.  Every time he opens his mouth it reminds me of how divisive his kind of politics is and how it hurts this country.  I just cringe at the prospect of four more years of this kind of politics.  I have voted for Clintons in the past, but I won't do it again.  Their kind of slash and burn politics has got to be stopped.
Obama is a Manchurian Candidate.  He is a Republican operative created to divide the Democratic party so that McCain and the Republicans can regain the White House in 2008.  He is the Trojan Horse that befell the City of Troy.
So the argument goes:  Obama has succesfully eliminated several candidates with his message of hope ..so it is bad to have a message that resonates with voters..hmmm...sounds more electable than Ms Clinton.
Bill still loves the sound of his voice and can't tolerate the thoughts of being a "has been". Why would anyone believe him when he has been shown to be a liar?
he's painting himself into an incoherent little ex-president box.
Blah, Blah, Blah, sore loser.  Yeah it has nothing to do with your Clintonian tackics and politics.  How could anyone suggest that maybe your have something to do with the situation that Hillary is in.  No, it couldn't be because of the backlash of your two terms in office.  There is no way Hillary's strategic dependence on her inevitability could have hurt her campaign.  Yeah, The fact that you guys blew through 175 million before super Tuesday has nothing to do with it...it must be Obama's fault.  You're right, how dare we the people prefer a candidate that has morals, conviction and vision...what are we thinking???

And by the way,who the hell cares if you can give a good speech or not?  Which Clinton is running for president for crying out loud?

Go Obama!
So we should vote for Hillary because Bill can draw a crowd?  Or we should vote for Hillary because she makes people mad?  Or we should vote for Hillary because the other (4) good candidates are out of the race?  Or we should vote for Hillary because Bill gives a good speech?  Or we should vote for Hillary because we feel sorry for her?  Gosh with so many great reasons to vote for Hillary, I can't think why Obama hasn't quit yet! He should be terrified! This is perhaps the most idiotic (and most insulting to the intelligence of the audience) "speech" Bill Clinton has ever given, save a few one liners like, "Yes but I didn't inhale" or "I did not have sex with that woman." or "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is." and a few other choice gems.
Bill Clinton is pathetic.  Watching the deterioration of Mr. & Mrs. Clinton is too much for me.  Change the channel.
Get ready Bill....he's about to knock a fifth candidate out of this race!!!!

Obama '08
Perhaps it is Clinton's 'fault' that the other candidates dropped out.  Or perhaps - just perhaps - this is what is supposed to happen during primaries, narrowing the field.  Bill Clinton is clearly mocking the normal democratic process, just as his wife has when she said that states who did not choose her don't count.
Bill, you lied to us.  You inhaled then and you sound like you have again.  Nobody has been "taken out" and why use a Mafia term for "hit"?  Shame!

The rest didn't have the votes or the money to continue period.  Didn't learn anything after S.C. did you.  We don't care what you did at the Brandenburg Gate or anywhere else.  Hillary's running not you.  Get it!  Why don't you steal JFK's line of "Ich bin ein Berliner" as well.  No, it doesn't mean, in German, what you think, it means "I am a jelly donut" and after reading this tripe, I don't doubt that you, indeed, may be one.

Poor Cliton with very childish comments fueled by jalousy. Too bad Bill cannot fight about ideology, issues, commitment to rally everyone in the country to work together for a better America. This is sad, ex-president, very sad.

What an incredibly whiny baby our former president has turned out to be.  It's no wonder he could cheat on his wife and then lie about it to the entire country: he quite obviously has no shame.  Bill Clinton is the sorest of losers.
With every speech he veers more and more toward absolute solipsism.

Sure Bill, this is all about you.
Mr. Clinton fails to realize that this is not a question of experience. It's a question of fluidity in the top office in the land. If this were a House or Senate race, we'd undoubtedly weigh seniority with greater deference. But we have now had stagnation in our highest office for 2 decades. That's not good politics. The Republicans already made the mistake of championing a legacy President. The Democrats must not do the same.
He just can't get over the fact he can't be President again.
I feel that eight years of W. have taught America the hard way what fear mongering and negativity get us. It was a bunch of right wing "swift boat" bs that put bush back in office for his second, and arguably even worse term, and America has matured a little since then. The decision by team Clinton to go negative and start throwing feces like two monkeys at the Zoo I think will hurt them more then anything. America is tired of it. The Clinton's managed to do a relatively good job of that until lately when they got desperate.

The point is, I have more respect for America then that. Obviously that is the biggest difference between Obama supporters and Hillary Supporters. We believe that America is ready for change, not just that Obama is ready to bring it about. The way the Country responds to team Clinton's recent decision to throw cheap shots and "mud" at Obama will determine whether or not this is true. I look forward to seeing the results in Wisconsin.
Me, me, me, me!!  Look at me!  Pay attention to me!  It's all about me! Oh yea, my wife would be just like me!  Did I mention anything about me?

Poor Bill, he just doesn’t get it.  What Barack Obama has tapped into (and the reason he is beating Hillary despite her initial overwhelming advantage in name recognition and establishment resources) is the Country’s overwhelming disgust with politics as usual.  The Bush administration may have brought this to a new level this decade but don’t kid yourselves, the Clinton’s were pretty damn good at it themselves in the 1990’s.
Bill is truly having a melt down.  Their internal polls in Wisconsin and Texas must be bad.  I don't think that he's ever been in a tough election before (except when he lost the re-election bid for governor in 1980) and he is just freaking out. Well, maybe it's time to re-tool.

It's nice to see that Bill has finally learned to be positive and keep his big mouth shut.  :/
What is he talking about? Is he promoting Hillary or himself when he talks about his speeches in Africa or Germany. BTW, how about a few words on NAFTA Bill

Bill Clinton has lost it. He has driven over the cliff. I dont think he knows what he is saying himself.
Every time Bill opens his mouth he sounds meaner and sillier than the last time.  Does he seriously expect us to buy his indignation on the part of all those other candidates who were vying with his wife for the nomination?  Please! I bet he was thrilled that all the white male competition was sunk early so Hillary's only competition as first woman was the first black guy.   After all, wasn't HE the first black president?  He must have been very confident  enough of the black vote would stick with him... er...with Hillary.

Most Dems were fans of Bill because he got us back into the White House and times were good while he was in it.  We also like the international respect he brought us.

Many of us were subsequently disgusted with his stupidity in giving the vast right wing conspiracy an opening with his blatant, repeated, reckless sleazy behavior and one bimbo explosion after another, fueling the Gingrich revolution and final drive to impeachment.

Many of us were also less than thrilled with the effect this all had on the 2000 election.  It would have been way too big a win to steal if not for Clinton's impeachment.  Many of us suspected lukewarm Clinton support for Kerry in 2004 had to do with their not wanting to wait another 8 years to run Hillary, leaving us with a sinking suspicion they preferred to see us saddled with another 4 years of Bush.

Still, we basically loved our good president/bad boy Bill.  Well, I'm over it.  I sincerely hope that Obama wins the nomination and Presidency, not just because he's the better candidate but also so the Dem party can get out from under the Clintons once and for all.

Bill is fine as a do-gooder ex pres and she's a decent Senator but as leaders of the party they have been a disaster.  Since getting elected for the first time in '92 with a big assist from Ross Perot, they have been leading us to defeat and the Republicans to victory pretty consistently for the past 15 years.  They had little to do with gains in 2006 and will be to blame if we lose with Hillary against McCain in 2008.

We need new leadership for a do-over on kicking off the 21st century: Leadership unconnected with the Clinton baggage and failed strategies of the "love-us-because-we're-almost-just-like-Republicans" DLC.
Hillary's candidacy has been a cancerous tumor that deprived vital funds and media attention from the Biden, Dodd, and Richardson -- all of whom would have been more experienced and more viable general election candidates than her. Thank goodness that Obama, because of his youth and strength and innovative tactics, has survived her campaign's malignant growth.  Prognosis excellent:  Clinton will soon be removed from the body politic.
What?!? Candidates dropped out of the race because they were no longer viable considerations.  I'd like Bill Clinton to disclose Hilary's solution to his repeated indiscretions in the oval office and on behalf of Senator Clinton's campaign.  I am an American, female, over the age of 50, on Social Security Disability (so I am am poverty stricken), and suffering in America. Lost my home, was rendered homeless through no fault of my own, and the rich got richer. How exactly has Senator Clinton positively impacted my life?  She hasn't.  I too am keeping score.

1.  Hilary Clinton voted to involve this country in an unjust war and refuses to acknowlege the error of her decision.

2.  Hilary Clinton has done exactly what to legislate relief to relive the overwhelming neglect of Katrina victims?

3.  Hilary Clinton has been in a Democrat controlled house that has failed to stop Bush.

4.  Hilary Clinton did nothing to prevent the illegal takeover of the 2000 election.  She did not support the recount of the votes in Florida.  She did not stand and insist.

5.  Hilary Clinton initiated a racist campaign and steadfastly denies it in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

5.  Hilary Clinton denigrates minorities with her divisive ways - pitting one against the other, to divide and conquor, all for personal gain.

6.  Bill and Hilary Clinton would rather destroy the hopes and dreams of a corruption free government in Washington and ensure more of the same.

and the list goes on and on and on

Let us all keep score.
Does Bill Clinton need to take drug test every once in while? You know, as part of his probation?
Thanks Bill. For reminding us why we don't want you back in the White House.

Here's another reminder. Good luck on your next Kazakhstan mining deal.

Anothing thing, Why is Obama telling so many lies?  He never passed any bill on Nuclear and furthermore, Hillary never praised him on any such thing.  Read the blogs, even the people in New York that went to college with Obama are reporting his lies.   "GIVE ME A BREAK!"    I said it just like Bill   Tell the truth
That's right Bill.  Keep talking and reminding everyone of your ambitions to be "president" again! And that will remind those of us who don't want you in the White House to vote for Hillary's opponent.
Faded glory...time for a real CHANGE.
Is Bill Clinton senile?
Bill needs to shut up & go back to Hope, AR.
My lord, Bill Clinton.  Please you are one fragile male who seems to need to stroke his ego over and over again.
I want to be president again!! I'm the best president ever!! I can give good speeches too!! I mean, this is about Hillary. But doesn't anybody remember how awesome I am?!?!
Bill Clinton seems to be losing it.This is a pathetic attack strategy for them to take. Wait to they see the new poll in Texas showing Obama has a lead now.David Geffen was right that they are polarizing figures and lie with incredible ease. This will backfire on them. EP in MA
to bill clinton please shut up and let hillary run her own da&n campain, for GOD'S sake haven't you done enough to mess things up for her.after all you are the reason she has lost 90% of the black vote. when will you learn to shut up . isn't there a woman some where in a blue dress looking for you. maybe she can keep you busy and away from hillary's campain.
He's definately BAAAAAAAAACK! Obama responsible for Democrats leaving the race? What the ****? And then the rant on his (Clinton's) own speechifying prowess! He IS taking this WAY too personally and it has cost and will continue to cost Hillary.
