Bill blames Obama for candidates' ouster

Posted: Saturday, February 16, 2008 3:00 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Continuing his swing through eastern Texas last night, Bill Clinton continued to slam Obama's discounting of "fights" of the past, even saying that Obama's argument can be blamed for the elimination of Democratic candidates who have already dropped out of the race.

"If you fought you made somebody mad, and you got cut up," he said, parodying what he says is Obama's "explicit argument" against Clinton. "We just have to turn over a new leaf. And it is actually an advantage not to have any experience because then you never made anybody mad."

Clinton added that the strategy of equating experience with the taint of partisan injury "has been very effective in this campaign."

"It has already taken four candidates out, four good candidates out," he said. "And it would have taken Hillary out if she didn't have so much grassroots support and so much guts in the face of a lot of what has happened here. "

Bill Clinton added that Hillary believes in solutions, not speeches. He says that might be "a generational thing." But, in the same breath, he also touts his own speechmaking ability.

The former president often closes his remarks by saying that his wife will "keep score" by evaluating whether or not she has made positive changes in the lives of Americans. Tonight, he added, "Maybe it's a generational thing" -- continuing in his theme today of a little light sarcasm at the expense of Barack Obama and his supporters. "But it's always the way I've kept score."

Clinton went on to tout -- at length -- his own speech-making abilities, as if to one-up the crowds of tens of thousands appearing at Obama's rallies in recent weeks. "I've been told I give a pretty good speech," he said, grinning. He mentioned attendance of over a million at a speech in Africa, and over 100,000 when he spoke at the Brandenburg Gate after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"I know the importance of words and inspiration," he said.

Great way to undermine your wife's argument at the end there Bill.
It seems panic and desperation has struck the Clinton camp. Their speeches (Bill, Hillary and daughter) clearly show that they now using 'fire fighting' techniques. It is obvious they did not prepare for post Super Tuesday campaign.
What a pompous speech.  How far you have fallen, Mr. President.  As this goes on, you slip further away from those who once went to the mat for you by continually alienating voters.
I'm a registered Democrat and think the world of Bill Clinton. I hope his desperation to get his wife elected doesn't diminish his image in the democratic party. It's starting to look like he is trying to fulfill a long term goal of unbeatable legacy rather than do what is good for the party and the country as a whole. It is not an entitlement for Hillary to be the next president, Americans don't owe her anything.
Uh, no, actually she would have been out if her name wasn't Clinton. In fact, she wouldn't even be in, were it not for her name. Shut up Bill. Go back and do some more speeches. Anything just go away. You make yourself, your wife and your party look pathetic.

I will cross party lines next month to vote with the Dems, but I won't vote for her. And, I will vote with my own party come November if she is the person against McCain.
Oh Bill Bill Billy  GIve it a rest will ya!!!

Bill Clinton talking about the irrelevance of Obama's speech while touting his own!! This is truly a classic contest indeed!!

It seems that when Hillary is down the most is when Bill comes in for th save.  Is he going to do this when she is in the White House?  It is his experience that she is running on so it continues that it will be Bill who will direct the White House.  Seems more like a 3rd term of Bill than the first of a Women being President.
Bubba needs some rest. All along he has been campaigning for Obama not Hillary.Whenever he speaks he gives Obama an average of not less than one delegate lead per blunder. He's completely driven african americans away from Hillary. He has turned off progressives.rediculous that hillary now find solace in neocons  and fox all deceitful accomplice
He sure does find it difficult to resist patting himself on the back. I've always liked President Clinton and Hillary, but now they just seem so personally offended that Democrats haven't lined up behind them.
1. He wasn't married to a president for 8 years true but Obama has roughly comparable legislative experience to Hillary.

2. Bill Clinton ran as a "change agent" with no inside the beltway experience in 1992. At the time he looked young and inexperienced next to the first George Bush.

3. His ham-handed stumping efforts for the Hillary campaign have done considerable damage to his legacy.  Something he has spent the last 8 years trying to shape.
Is it me or is President Clinton sounding jealous of Sentor Obama's popularity?  He is sounding petulant that Senator Obama pulls in so many at his events.  This isn't a high school popularity contest, this is a serious election about serious issues.

Pres. Clinton should realize how silly he is beginning to sound.
I actually had alot of respect for Bill and Hillary at the beginning of this campaign. I was rooting for Obama but thought that it would be impossible for him to defeat the Clintons and that he was too green not to screw this up in some way. I actually felt that  how well the candidates held up in this political gauntlet would go along way towards helping me decide who would be the best president.

At this point, I don't see how anyone can question who has had the strongest run so far. Obama has out-planned and out-performed a formidable opponent and has proven to be calm and cool throughout some very difficult circumstances. I listen to both Clintons now and I think Hillary sounds frustrated and Bill just sounds foolish. It's too bad that an admired former president has reduced his own stature to the point that people are talking about how long his leash should be.

Please don't tell me about Hillary's experience anymore. Her experience hasn't been as impressive as Obama's judgement in this campaign so why should I trust that her experience will make her a better  president?

Bill, dude, you're rambling...  and what's your point? That there's something wrong with people voting for the person they truly, individually and collectively, want to be President?  I would think you of all people would understand the democratic process by now.
"I know the importance of words and inspiration," Bill Clinton said.

Don't tell your wife they are important.  She's been complaining about Obama's words and inspiration all week.
Gosh, maybe he should have taught Hillary how to give a speech.  But I guess he was too busy with other things.
This whining and complaining is pathetic, but also quite sad.  Clinton is (or was) better than this.  Think about it.
Bill Clinton talking about himself again? Sorting through his personal feelings are we? I guess that's interesting then. Just thought you might want to know, I ran for Student Body President in the 10th Grade and this kid Darryl Johnson was more popular than I was and he ended up winning the election. I think I was a better candidate than he was. It wasn't fair. He was a year younger than I was. And HE somehow thought he was the better candidate. Psssh. Anyone still reading this? My personal issues riviting you yet? No? Yeah me either...
""I've been told I give a pretty good speech"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It's so sad to see how very personal this has all become when it should be about moving the nation forward. I get the feeling that "the Clinton's" will view anything other than a victory for them as some type of personal rebuke. However, I feel that for many people, it will be a vote to try a new way, even while acknowleging the contributions of all who have brought us to this point.

Okay we have another whiner here.... My God, can you please stop it already....

1... Lets try Racism Comments….Okay that completely back fired
2…Lets try a Sexism Comment...Okay that didn't work
3....Lets now try Ageism comments....Okay that didn’t work
4…Lets now try both Sexism and Ageism together….Boring
5…Lets now try inspirational speeches don’t work….That’s not working
6…Lets now work on the super delegates…Oh boy they seem to be changing their mine
7…Lets now try seating the FL and Michigan Delegates
8…On and on and on and on………

The problem with the Clinton Campaign is that you continue to try these discrimination angles to see who will bit......

And that only indicates you don't really care about the American people...because you don't really know or understand what the American People are going through…….

The fact is that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are not that far apart on issues….What appears to be the difference is that Senator Obama is more inspirational and persuasive in getting others to follow along…….There is a passion he brings out in regular people that Senator Clinton is just not that gifted in doing…..

Instead of recognizing this Hillary Clinton and her campaign have chosen to run a Rudy Giuliani style Campaign.....He ran on 911 and Hillary ran on the Clinton’s Selection Nostalgic Memories of the 90’s…..

Rudy  tried to play catch up and couldn’t….And Now Hillary Clinton is trying to do the same……This is what happens when you live a shelter rich and private life…..It’s hard for you to connect with ordinary people because you don’t know any……
I have been a sound proponent of Bill Clinton for 16 years.  It has always bothered me that the "Right" hates the man so much. I must say, however, that I am disturbed by his actions recently and am beginning to see him in a new and quite unfavorable light.  He seems to be quite willing to do and risk anything including his legacy to get back to Pennsylvania Ave.
Laughable ... so all the other candidates quit because of Barack Obama ? Billary thought she'd be on a cakewalk ... and now she gets a run for her money.

On a side note, Monica's boyfriend here is convicted of perjury - for lying to a grand jury (and what is worse - for lying to the American People) Does anybody have a doubt that they would lie to get back in power ?????

Look, I officially went past the point of not liking the Billaries anymore - write me down for being 'disgusted'. If we elect these TWO Billaries as our nominee(s) I am done with the Democratic Party.

I'd match my contribution to the Obama movement for McCain. I'd do whatever it would take to prevent these  faked royalties to get back in the White House.
I know that each person running has to blow their own horn but some do it with more grace.  I do not respect or trust Bill or Hilary Clinton so would never vote for them no matter what. With them I see that it is all about pesonal gain to their bank accounts and not ours.  Yes they would give us a little back to get us off their back but not as much as they would make.  Obama sees that he can not make empty promises and rightfully so.  He we do his best to help all of us, not make empty promises that will never get done.  I have health care now, but had nothing while raising my children alone.  But there were places for me to go, as there are now, that will give you care at a reduced rate.  So everyone is covered in a sense so what is all the fighting about.  Yes we could make the co-pay lower for everyone and that would help.  Even the ones with reduced pay at doctors could pay lower.  We need the insurance companies to quit charging so much and taking a big cut for all the upper management workers they have on payroll.  I guess what I'm saying is that everyone does get health care to a certain degree, but it looks like people will not be happy unless it is free.  Well nothing is ever free and we have to stop that train of thought or no one would ever work hard to improve themselfs because everything would be handed to them.
Bill Clinton is completely insane.  Did this just happen or did I sleep through it in the 90's?
Bill, dude, you're rambling...  and what's your point? That there's something wrong with people voting for the person they truly, individually and collectively, want to be President?  I would think you of all people would understand the democratic process by now.
This sounds like Bill is truly losing it.  I'm not sure what he's trying to say, but whatever it is, it seems to have a desperate ring to it.
This clearly shows who wants to be President....Again!

Bill, you need to quit it.
A true tragi-comedy.  Bill, in his usual stream of consciousness, serves as the narrator of Hillary's campaign.  Only Faulkner could make sense of his meandering mind and parsed language.  Like they are in an updated version of As I Lay Dying, Bill is trying to get Hillary to the White House before anyone realizes she is a decaying corpse...Hillary Clinton is a fish.
No one important cares about what Bill says anymore. He's like the old guy down your block yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.
Bill, you are sorely mistaken. E.g., Hillary's failed attempt at universal health care in 1993 happened precisely because she was too cynical and arrogant to effectively bring opposing sides to the bargaining table. Too little emphasis has been put on how crippling divisiveness is in Washington.
So much for Bill saying that he would not defend Hillary and only promote her.  Sounds like he is promoting himself.  How will she control him if she is in the White House?  Bill seems to think this is still somehow about him too.  This is the type of politics I am sick of.
So wait, is Bill going to be giving all of Hillary's speeches when she is the president. I can just imagine at the state of the union, "Mr. or Mrs. Speaker, the First man of the United States."
Bill's getting what: 300-400 people to see him? Obama is getting standing-room only crowds at some of the largest sports arenas around the country.

Why do people like to hear him speak? He's an incredible speech giver, but he also gives detailed plans. He has ideas that will help everyone--not just those with corporate interest as Hillary is intent on providing with such things as her health-care plan.

Bill's rhetoric may have been great 10-15 years ago, but today it is totally ineffective. The more he opens his mouth and attacks obama, the worse he makes Hillary's campaign look, not that she isn't having trouble doing that on her own.
This guy has gone crazy. Bill I believe that you are going into the begining stage of dementia. I am putting you up in prayer.

Bill can blow his own horn alright. The last thing America needs is the clintons in the whitehouse.
That last paragraph further proves that Clinton's candidacy is equally as much about him as it is her, if not more so. The thought of a co-presidency makes me forget completely how much I've liked him over the years.
Bill can blow his own horn alright, the last thing we need is the Clinton's in the whitehouse again.
Blah, blah, blah, sore loser.  You're right Bill, Hillary's demise has nothing at all to do with you or her faulty dependence on her inevitablility strategy.  Don't take the blame for anything, there is no chance that voters could possible be tired of your Clintonian tackics and devicsive poliltics.  How could the fact that she blew through 175 million dollars before super Tuesday impact her campaign's finacial woe of late?  It is absured to think that we the people would prefer a candidat that has moral, convictions and a vision of hope...what are we thinking???

Hey and by the way, who the hell cares if you can give a good speech...who is running for president for crying out loud?  It isn't about you Slick Willy, it is about us!

Go Obama!
Clinton's Obama strategy:

Having meticulously planned their coveted return to the White House for several years now, the Clintons will certainly not exit the scene with grace or dignity. This is the political duo that honed "The Politics Of Personal Destruction" into an artform; and, most certainly will not tolerate, who is in their mind, the "upstart Obama" to derail Hillary's pre-choreographed coronation.
With regards Slick's comments on Obama's Iraq record; and, the draft dodger's false accusation of flip flopping on the Iraq issue against Obama: It was actually Hillary who was the serial flip-flopper on this issue. Obama to his credit, as a matter of conscience, refused to deny American troops the funding for the bullets and equipment that they required to survive in ongoing combat. Hillary, on the other hand, with no such compelling principles, was one of only two U.S. Senators who voted to deny funding for essential equipments for our troops who they had "previously" voted to commit to lethal combat. A despicable breach of trust with the young men and women laying their lives on the line in defense of our Nation. Obama made the classical rookie error of not responding to Slick's false accusation, which he could have easily turned to Hillary's well deserved detriment
Barrack and his supporters best be prepared for the "Political Lynching" that will rival anything previously witnessed in Presidential politics. Further, the Clinton's methodical playing of the "Race Card" will promote a permanent schism between the Black and Hispanic communities. Despicable, and destructive to any semblence of National cohesion painfully achieved.
Slick and Hilla-the-Hun, the Perpetual Victim, have repeatedly demonstrated a vicious mud-slinger demeanor that is unprecedented whenever their political dynasty has been threatened in the past. Just ask anyone of their innumerable victims.

Greg Neubeck
Bill Clinton needs to shut up. This presidential race isn't about him, he's ego, he's ability to give speeches, or his warped sense of what's owed to him.

It is about the first US president of the 21st century.
bill clinton is right. All these young people, including my own daughter do not look at the details in what each candidate says, they are going by charisma and a certain cult of personality. Obama has not much record to speak of and contrary to what most people want to admit there is still an awful lot of sexism left in this world. I do not care if it is a Clinton or not, she is a woman and Barak is a man, period.
Bill's frustration is showing.  He must be really desperate at this point to his ability to use speech!  Excuse me, WHO is running for president?  I thought it was Hillary, but all too confusing.  Who will be using his ability to speak from the WhiteHouse. WE DO NOT NEED 4 MORE YEARS of this tomfullary!  Vote for REAL change and get away from yesterday's politics.  Obama is the candidate who can accomplish the changes that are needed.
Give me a break Bill! You just dont know what to say anymore. why dont you talk about the issues. Like how Hillary's plan will force people to pay for their health care, even if it means taking their money from the pay checks. Or how she wont admit that she voted for the war? Obama might not have enough 'experience' as you, but he sure doesnt have a ny political debts to give to all the people that made you, beofre you care for the people!
I've kept score. Hillary scores 0.
Two points ! ...either 1) .Hilliary is cunningly crying, or ...2) Bill is vindictively whinning. For starting their "impecable' dynasty in the White House as of "day 1", it's certain so far the Clinton's campaign strategy has been a DISASTER from day 1. But on the other hand implying Mr Obama's lack of experience, he seems to have a generally flawless campaign, ...OBAMA CAN GET THINGS DONE, ...SOLUTIONS ! The disasterous Clintons MUST BE STOPPED !
My!MY!So now Bill is saying Obama is to blame for four good Democratic candidates dropping out of the race.It is clear that Bill is lobbying the Super Delegate votes of Joe Biden,Chris Dodd,Bill Richardson and John Edwards.(he knows for sure Dennis wants no part of the Clintons so he says 4) The worst part is, he says, that Obama's equation of experience with the taint of partisan injury has been very effective. The Clinton's again and again are refusing to give voters any credit for intelligence and instead are using one of the tactics of  old politics by appealing to the disappointment and emotions of others who are now down(the 4 former candidates)while shamelessly lobbying the disappointed for their own selfish ends.(patronizing while lobbying). It's like expressing sympathy to the widow and making a date at the same time. He then subtly attacks young people by saying, perhaps it's a generational thing. So that to him, young people abhors experience and due to their youth are falling for Obama's new message of change(as if only youths support Obama. He refuses to acknowledge that the reasons for Obama's wins is that people are fed up with the old failed ways of doing things and are looking for change, inspiration and a new approach to governance. They see this in Obama's message. The Clintons need to do a proper analyis of the Obama phenomenon  and come to terms with the fact that America is going through a transition and if not Obama someone else would have risen up.The Clintons should deal more with the issues stop being personal and opportunistic by lobbying the former candidates via blaming Obama.
cecil.
Is Bill Clinton pro or con good speach?
Uhmmmmm, Bill?

You can't run for President again. Remember?

You did give a hell of a speech on NAFTA though!
Bill Clinton really has issues, he should be more humble i remeber another speech he gave when he said "I did no have sexual relations with that woman" and then got impeached for lying. I think he forgets how he shamed the democratic partyy in those final years and cost them the follow up election, maybe that is the thing that Obama isn't saying but implying when he says we dont need to go back to the 90's. To all the Hillary supporters i respect you but when you all say you wont support Obama if he wins shame on you, you say Obama's universal health care plan leaves out 15 mil how many does McCains leave out, oh yeah he dosent want universal health care nor does he want any of the plans Hillary wants and he wants the military to stay in Iraq. Maybe your vote for McCain over Obama if he wins is due to some other issues you have afterall jesse jackson did win SC to.
Can this man open his mouth without distorting the truth?

It's funny that he forwards the new Clinton rhetoric attacking rhetoric and speeches and then brags about his own speaking ability.
