Clinton targets Obama in speech

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Clinton campaign has released excerpts of the speech Hillary Clinton will give tonight at 8:30 pm ET from Youngstown, OH. And, according to these excerpts, she doesn't mince words when talking about Obama.

"Tonight, I want to talk about the choice you have in this election -- and why that choice matters... This election is not about me or my opponent. It’s about you. Your lives, your dreams, your future," she will say.

"Right now, too many people are struggling. Working the day shift, the night shift, trying to get by without health care... They need a president ready on day one to be commander in chief. Ready to manage our economy. And ready to beat the Republicans this November. I will be that president."

More: "This is the choice we face: One of us is ready to be commander in chief in a dangerous world… One of us has a plan to provide health care for every single American -- no one left out… Finally, one of us has faced serious Republican opposition in the past. And one of us is ready to do it again.

And: "Both Senator Obama and I would make history. But only one of us is ready on day one to be commander in chief, ready to manage our economy, and ready to defeat the Republicans. Only one of us has spent 35 years being a doer, a fighter and a champion for those who need a voice. That is what I would bring to the White House. That is the choice in this election... It’s about picking a president who relies not just on words – but on work, hard work, to get America back to work. Someone who’s not just in the speeches business – but will get America back in the solutions business."

Only one of us loses to John McCain in all the swing states
Oh.  Shocker.  You're still campaigning for Clinton.  So, if for some reason, she's handed the presidency should we expect you all to be the propaganda wing of the WH like Fox is now?
The Clintons will tear the Democratic party apart.
So what?

This is more of the same, big deal.
There's a pattern here. The more negative Hillary is, the more she loses. She's just too stupid to figure it out.
If Hillary could do half the job Obama does her record wouldn't look like crap.

Oh! I copied this from another poster--but I needs to be posted alot--the people need to know who will work hard for them and that person is not Hillary--it's Obama

The following information gathered from the Library of Congress on the Legislative experience Junior Senator Hillary Clinton and Junior Senator Barack Obama. Please Feel free to check these records for yourself and draw your own conclusion.

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term, which is 6 years and another year campaigning, has authored and passed 20 twenty pieces of legislation in her term of six years into law. These bills can be found at (wwwhomas.loc.gov).  Senator Clinton has passed.

(1) Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
(2) Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
(3) Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
(4) Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
(5) Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
(6) Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
(7) Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
(8) Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
(9) Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
(10) Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
(11) Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
(12) Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
(13) Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
(14) Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
(15) Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive.
(16) Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
(17) Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
(18) Assist landmine victims in other countries.
(19) Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
(20) Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

She has a nice list, but note that these are The Fact's straight from the Senate Record; Therefore, it is not made up.

Now, It is time to post Senator Obama's record from the Library of Congress.I have to mention that Senator Obama's list is too substantive, one is coalesced to categorize. Since its alot, remember you can go to the Library of Congress website, and check it out yourself, but I am just summarizing his first 8 months.

During Senator Obama's first 8 eight months of elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.

He introduced 233 bills regarding healthcare reform,
125 bills on poverty and public assistance,
112 bills on crime fighting,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
In his first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
(1)the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 that became LAW,
(2)The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act that became LAW, (3)The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that passed the Senate,
(4)The 2007 Government Ethics Bill that became LAW,
(5)The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill that is in committee just to name a few.

In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record.  Read the facts and not emotion.
This is new? It sounds like the same bullet points she's been hammering and losing with since Iowa.

"Ready on day one"
"Vetted"
"Universal health care"
"35 years of experience"
"Not just words"
Ready on Day One... Lying on Day Two... Fired on Day Three...
Just when I thought I couldn't like Hillary any less...
If Hillary Clinton claims to be ready to be President on Day One, then perhaps she is really saying it's because her husband can steer her through every unknown aspect of that?  Frankly, I don't think America needs her to be able to do that, and to elect her on the basis of her "Day One" advantage.  I do not trust the Clintons.  Trust is something that is earned from past experiences, and honesty.  The Clintons can't lay claim to those virtues, in fact they have shown indicators of the contrary.  I think they view this Presidential race as "the end justifies the means".
The Clintons, to adapt a line from Dr. Johnson, were not only corrupt, they were the cause of corruption in others. Yet seldom in America have so many come to excuse so much mendacity and malfeasance as during the Clinton years. Here are some of the facts that have been buried.

RECORDS SET

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court

* According to our best information, 40 government officials were indicted or convicted in the wake of Watergate. A reader computes that there was a total of 31 Reagan era convictions, including 14 because of Iran-Contra and 16 in the Department of Housing & Urban Development scandal. 47 individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine were convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes with 33 of these occurring during the Clinton administration itself. There were in addition 61 indictments or misdemeanor charges. 14 persons were imprisoned. A key difference between the Clinton story and earlier ones was the number of criminals with whom he was associated before entering the White House.

Using a far looser standard that included resignations, David R. Simon and D. Stanley Eitzen in Elite Deviance, say that 138 appointees of the Reagan administration either resigned under an ethical cloud or were criminally indicted. Curiously Haynes Johnson uses the same figure but with a different standard in "Sleep-Walking Through History: America in the Reagan Years: "By the end of his term, 138 administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever."
Clinton Rocks
Obama sucks

I am tired of being "inspired". Mr. Obama we need less borrowed speeches and more actions please.

Obama all sizzle and no steak.
Whatever Obama promises you, Hillary promises 50% more! Get 50% more for your vote, with an ex-President thrown in for FREE! Vote now, and you'll receive a BONUS GIFT of HOPE! But that's not all you'll receive. How about a free CHANGE! Wow! This deal won't last for long. Vote now!

To anyone who keeps posting BO's legislative record.  He did NOT author over a 1000 bills while in the US Senate.  Get real and actually read what you post instead of simply cut/paste propaganda.
Watch out Texas and Ohio... and all Democrats out there.  The New York Times linked to a poll of conservative Wisconsin bloggers (http://badgerblogalliance.blogspot.com/2008/02/crossover-is-name-of-game.html) who are planning to vote for Hillary Clinton with the understanding that she is the most beatable democratic candidate.  With the upcoming contests allowing crossover like this, it'll be importand for Obama supporters to come out in droves to ensure that we take the White House next year.

OBAMA '08, Hillary Secretary of State
Gee Hill...desperate much?
Clinton:

...ready to be Commander in Chief, but too busy to read the National Intelligence Estimate and sent us to war because she needed to look tough than stand tough against Bush.

...has a plan to provide health care for every single American, but has been making this same promise for fifteen years since 1993-- looks like she just can't get it done

...has faced serious Republican opposition in the past, but not in the last 7 years. Meanwhile, she and her husband have been taking money from special interests and lobbyists. We know about the $30 million of Kazakhstan-derived money... why do you hide your tax records from us?

...gives us many words but not many achievements in 35 years. Clinton uses a lot of words-- to attack her opponents, to play the race card, to justify breaking her pledge to not "campaign or participate" in Michigan, but beyond her rhetoric, she is just another poorly-qualified job seeker who embellishes her resume  on her real experience and real accomplishments.

Clinton, your job interview has not gone well. Another candidate has better qualifications for the job you seek.
Right now, too many people are struggling. Working the day shift, the night shift, trying to get by without health care... They need a president ready on day one to be commander in chief. Ready to manage our economy. And ready to beat the Republicans this November. I will be that president."

This is close to incoherent. The commander in chief has what to do with the economy (other than selling the country's future to fund a stupid war)?

And a commander in chief president, ready from day one, to beat the Republicans the November before?

Huh? I wouldn't let Bush get away with that sort of confused nonsense.
Uh, ready from day one?  She has mismanaged her money, her campaign is a mess riddled with infighting and they never prepared for plan B after Feb. 5th.
Excuse me, but, if this is someone who is ready to lead and govern from day one, I'd hate to see day two.
Michelle Obama's comment exposes the narcissistic attitude of the couple.
Once again, your story doesn't deliver what your headline promises.  Where are the not-minced words?  All I see is political rhetoric well within the bounds of reasonable debate.  If anything, the words are quite tame--considering what's at stake.  I think I finally figured out why Sen. Obama is doing so well--most people must not bother to read past the headlines.
There is nothing negative about that message. If Obama has "change what have you" this is Hilary's message - and she's proven herself to be resilient. She had gone up against the Republican machinery for 20 years. It is so true.

Remember that young voters(college students) are attracted to whatever is new and exciting and trendy, i.e. Obama.  However, as with John Kerry in the last election, you can't depend on young voters to carry you into the White House. They notoriously don't come out for the election. Kerry thought he was the candidate for change too and depended heavily on young voters and look what that got him.
( I am not comparing Kerry vs. Obama).

The second thing is that the middle and working classes will be the people to elect the next president, and they are concerned with bread and butter issues. Obama is attracting primarily young voters and  intellectuals.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Obama was destined to be president the first time I saw him speak at the Democratic Convention. At that time all I could think of was "WOW". I was so inspired by that speech that I printed it off the internet and kept it to read over and over. The man is definitely an inspiration and a tremendous speaker.I am still awed by him.

But I am being practical here - I really like Hillary too and I think the people will vote for her over any republican too.  She is older and wiser than Obama and I think her time is NOW.  Obama is young and inexperienced and I think his time is after Hillary's.  He will still be inspiring and wonderful after 8 years of Hillary. And he will gain experience during that time.  Then we (democrats) can lock up the presidency for 8 years more with Obama.  It sounds like a Win, Win solution to me.

Keep up the fight Hilary!

Andre Kaz,  thank you so much.
Do you guys running the site see this?
You really need to show this to people like Buchanan and  Scarborogh.  You actually need to show this to all the major players on MSNBC.
This is so important for it to be known.
Clinton Haters:

You've been drinking the Obama kool aide for way too long. You are buying celebrity and supposed charm; most of you couldn't name a substantive Obama accomplishment at a national level. There's a reason: He doesn't have any.
Take a dose of pragmatism and quit letting the Lee (I want to marry Barak) Cowan and Chuck (I want to be Obama's press secretary) crowd seriously. Obama is a leftist, untested media darling who won't be able to take the Republican heat. Jeez!
You Obama lovers are so ignorant!! At least Hillary talks about the issues and her plans to fix each one. All Obama says in his speeches is change change change, hope hope hope, fired up, ready to go, and look at my website if you want to know what I stand for! He'll just have his more experienced cabinet handle everything. We've never seen that happen before now, have we?? Wake up America!!
The internals out of Wisconsin must have her worried.

Interesting.
WHEN is someone in the press going to confront Hillary on these claims like "only one of us has spent 35 years being a doer, a fighter and a champion for those who need a voice."

First of all, the notion that Obama is not a "doer" is an insult. The man was a community organizer in Chicago after Harvard Law School, then a state senator, then a U.S. senator. What's Hillary's "35 years" consist of? 35 years ago she was still in law school. After that, she became a corporate lawyer with the Rose Law Firm for 16 years and first lady of Arkansas. Then in 1992, she became First Lady in the White House. Her one major attempt at an accomplishment was health care reform which failed spectacularly. She has been a U.S. Senator for 6 years. Obama has been one for 3 years which, added to his years as a state senator, puts him in public office longer than Clinton.

When is someone going to call her on this lie? Is the press afraid to appear "sexist" by pointing out that she was merely the wife of an office-holder during most of these "35 years"? That's the only explanation I can think of for the kid gloves.
Does anyone know anything about this trial in CA set for 2/21/2008 with Hillary Clinton and her family?  Is this a rumor or truth and waht is is about?
Any reason Team Clinton want to talk about TOMORROW and not TONIGHT?
"Obama lovers"
Maybe I am being too sensitive. Gosh I really hope I am, but I remember in the 70's another phrase that also included "lovers".  It described anyone who agreed with a black person or liked a black person as a N****r Lover.  Is that what you are trying to allude to or am I wrong.  I sure hope I am wrong but if you are feeling it, then state that too.  (note I am not calling racism...I am just asking if what you are trying to get across)
She's pathetic!  She doesn't care about me or the issues.  If she did, she would keep her campaign on message and stop playing kindergarten cop and going negative on her candidates.
That's right ... Obama is all fluff ... he's all about making speeches with little or no substance, and now it appears parts of his speeches are being borrowed from those of other people.  Obama would make a great motivational speaker or preacher, but I really don't see him taking over the highest office in the land.
If I would want the best commander in chief and I would have to choose between Billary and McCain, I would oick McCain. Both displayed poor judgement and at least McCain knows about the war.

Obama has the best judgement but not the dirtiest campaign ... the American People will choose what they deserve.

OBAMA'08 - If not it's Republican for the first time
Thank you for noting that -
"To anyone who keeps posting BO's legislative record.  He did NOT author over a 1000 bills while in the US Senate.  Get real and actually read what you post instead of simply cut/paste propaganda".

Alan, NJ (Sent Tuesday, February 19, 2008 6:42 PM)

I've corrected that numerous times around here. Still these people keep posting the so called achievement "9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship."...and the like.
Please, your hometown mayor or any public official have done exactly the above acts.

If it's one legislation that affects our lives significantly over 10 non sense ones, I'd take the one that truly matters.

Statistics have to mean something substantial. Substance people. Obama supporters, please SCRUTINIZE the man.
Nothin' new here.
Only one of us had no plan after Feb 5
Only one of us is runnin to be president of the big states
Only one of us has injected negavitity into the campaign.... PLEASE....
15 of those years were as a corporate lawyer defending Walmart and others (anti-union, anti-environment, anti-progressive.)

the biggest enterprize either Obama or Clinton have run in their lives have been their respective campaigns for president.  Who has had the winning strategy?  Who has made the right investment choices?  Who has mobilized the masses for change?  Who continues to raise millions of dollars from small donors (and thus not as reliant of big donors)?  Who has been a leader?  Who is uniting every corner of the Democratic party with independants and moderate Republicans?

Obama
This is why Hillary will not accomplish anything... because instead of bringing groups together, she's committed to fighting the Republicans.  Guess what... the Republicans will fight back just like they've always fought against the Clintons.  We'll spend the next 4 years without the gov't getting anything done.
Clinton Haters:

You've been drinking the Obama kool aide for way too long. [...] Jeez!
-----------------------------------------------------

You are right ... There are MANY Democrats who HATE Billary! You think you can win a general election ? She could not cry enough, I tell you ! How could you expect to win with one half of a party being lemmings and the other half voting for the other party ?

If Billary is the nominee I will also vote the Congress Republican !
The Debate in 2 days is going to be a bloodbath.  I just don't know whose blood.  I figure most of this is to goad him into losing his temper so she can look like the victim. Be careful Obama.  Never get in the mud with a pig....you get dirty and the pig likes it. (I don't know who to credit for the phrase.....just so you don't think I am taking credit for it)
Hillary had the best opportunity anyone has had since Carter to pass healthcare reform in '93, with Dems controlling the Congress and 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. She took responsibility for health care reform, and blew this opportunity so miserably that Congress went from blue to red the first election after Billary took office.

A mandate is NOT universal healthcare. Just because my fine state of Ohio mandates auto insurance doesn't mean that everyone buys it. And they get fined if they don't have it. Further, a mandate provides no incentive for big insurance companies to reduce premiums. This is as true with your current automobile insurance as it will be if Hillary gets the healthcare reform she has proposed.

In response to Dan from Ohio, I am a young voter, and I am sick and tired of the older fraction of the population hijacking the elections and putting in the same establishment. I don't want to sound callous, but I and my generation will inherit this nation, NOT the seniors who will be dead before the next president finishes his/her term. The baby boomers are intent on leaving my generation with a planet in environmental ruins, an empire stretched too far, and a national debt that I will have to pay and they will not.

If you keep voting how you always voted, you will keep getting what you've always got. The Clintons had their crack at fixing things in this nation. And do you see where we are now?

If Hillary steals this election... or even if she manages to brainwash voters with her tired old "Day One" platitudes and it works... if Hillary clinches the nomination, I will vote McCain. Hell, at least he's honest.
Gee Billary
If you're so 'ready' why is you campaign falling apart ?

Will you be 'right from day one' ?
You VOTED FOR THE IRAQ WAR
That doesn't show good judgement

How can you be ready to be commander in chief when you BLEW the biggest foreign policy decision oy your career? The Iraq War

How can you be ready to manage the economy when you can't manage you campaigh finances ?

How can you manage the White House when you can't manage your campaign ?

How can you lead us to victory when you're suck a divisive and negative campaigner ?

How can you lead the American people given your history of corruption and scandal ?

You couldn;t run this campaign without a fund raising scandal in Norman Hsu ?

No Thanks, Billary
I really don';t like snake oil ....
To some of the complaining Hillary supporters - if you are too lazy to look into Obama's policies and yet you want to claim that he has no substance, you stand discredited.    To suggest that inspirational speech and substantive policies cannot exist together is ridiculous at best.  Fits the thinking one would expect out of the Hillary supporter demographic.
go hillary!!
When is the media going to question HER lack of experience and accomplishments!! Six years is all she has (and not one good piece of legislation but quite a few poor judgement votes). She is not ready to lead on day one and does not have the maturity to be president!  Obama has more real experience and more wisdom.
The Debate in 2 days is going to be a bloodbath.  I just don't know whose blood.  I figure most of this is to goad him into losing his temper so she can look like the victim. Be careful Obama.  Never get in the mud with a pig....you get dirty and the pig likes it. (I don't know who to credit for the phrase.....just so you don't think I am taking credit for it)
Obama stop stealing other people phrases.
Yes we can = Si se puede. the latino phrase used by Cesar Chavez at rallies. Come up with your own catch phrases.

"I have never in all my adult life been really ashamed of a presidential candidate's wife".  Guess someone forgot to snitch....or,  write a speech for Michelle Obama.

Also what is it with all the women  passing out at Obama rallys? All the women, 7 I have seen so far, are always right in front of Obama, center stage.

They are saying that the  Obama camp had them planted there.

How pathetic.

Obama should run two commercials in Texas & Ohio:

1.  So Hillary thinks her 35 years of experience would benefit America.  Exactly how has her 35 years of experience benefitted you??????  Then get the answers from mothers and widows of dead soldiers more than willing to express their outrage thanks to Hillary's vote to wage unjustifiable war against Iraq.  GOOD WAY TO SLICE INTO HILLARY'S FEMALE SUPPORT.

2.  This ad would target Hispanics in Texas.  It would interview several Hispanic business owners and show many of the boarded up businesses and factories along the Rio Grande, including McAllen, thanks to Clinton's support of NAFTA.
