Huck takes McCain 'at his word'

Posted: Thursday, February 21, 2008 11:02 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
HOUSTON -- Huckabee said he took McCain at his word and would not speculate on the impact of the New York Times article suggesting the Republican front-runner had an affair during the 2000 presidential campaign with a lobbyist.

“You know, I’ve campaigned now on the same stage and platform with John McCain for 14 months; I only know him to be a man of integrity,” Huckabee said at a press conference after a rally. “Today he denied any of that was true, I take him at his word. I have no further comment other than that. I think for me to get into it is completely immaterial. Again, I only know him what I know him to be, and that’s a good and decent and honorable man.”

Pressed to speak about the paper’s decision to run the article or what the allegations may mean for the Republican race, he demurred.

“This is politics, but you know, I don’t have any further comments on this other than what I’ve said,” he said. “I feel like that’s why I’m not in Texas anyway.”

Huckabee drew only about 100 supporters Thursday morning and stressed that a win in Texas is key to his strategy of preventing McCain from garnering 1,191 delegates. He has refrained from calling any state a “must-win,” but came close Wednesday in Plano.

“I don't know that any person running for office has ever depended so on a single state as I'm depending on the people of Texas, but I believe this; Texas is an awfully big state, it's gonna make a big noise come March the 4th,” he said Wednesday.

While the Houston morning crowd was small, those attending the Wednesday rally in Plano said there were more than 1,500 people.

On Thursday, he also likened himself to the late Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat while discussing those who say he is staying in the race because of ego or because he likes to fly around in airplanes.

“What an idiot!” he said of one unnamed television pundit. “I’ve been flying around on airplanes enough to tell you it's not all its cracked up to be.”

Describing on life on the road, he noted he only averages one night a month at home.

“Honestly, I tell people I’m living the life of Yasser Arafat; I sleep in a different place every night,” he said. “Of course, he’s sleeping in the same place every night now, and it’s not good. My reason for spending the night in a different place is a little different than his was when he was around.”

It will take a long time for Huck to remove the mile from his face.
If anyone wonders why the New York Times is a failing newspaper look no further than this smear and run article.  I used to have a subscription but after 70+ front page articles on Abu Ghraib I could no longer stomach what they were trying to jam down our throats.  And I don't even support the war didn't even vote for Bush.  As a Democrat I like Obama for Presdient but I've always liked McCain and his ability to work with both sides of the isle.  This NY Times article is just disgracful and pathetic.
Hey First Read what about Hillary?  Why no articles on her today?  Where's the articles on Obama's 11 victories and why Hillary should just give up?  Huh?  Thought so!

Obama '08!!!
OK MSNBC is this your way of trying to eliminate McCain like you have done so well to Clinton?  Is this the only way you can promote your golden boy Obama by trashing all his other competition?  You have been hashing this over long enough and should start with some real news.  Meka and Joe what a trashy conversation you have been having all morning.  Meka you are really disgusting with your supposing this and that.  This is just what you did to the Clintons.  Anything for your golden boy.
Teh New York Times do a balaced article about a Republican, that will be the day. The NY Times is now on par with the National Enquirer and Star. They are a cheap tabloid in the back pockets of the DNC and the left. They should change thier name to the New York Enquirer.
Whats a matter obamawannabes and MSNBZZZZZZZZ done dirtying up Hilliary time to take on a hero and start smearing his name.NOTICE THE HILLIARY STORIES ARE GONE NOW ITS TIME TO RUIN MACAIN AWESOME POLITICS AS USUAL
Also worth looking at this new Ohio general election poll that has McCain edging out both Obama and Clinton within the margin of error. Link: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2008/02/scrutiny-increases-in-preview-of.html

Actually I think the McCain stroy is going to help Clinton. Republicans will have to vote for their own party instead of crossing party lines and ruining it for Clinton.

Clinton Rocks

Obama Sucks
Since the New York times wants to report on speculation;  how about telling us about the lawsuit filed in Minnesota by Larry Sinclair on Monday against Barak Obama and the democrat party and Obama's camp leaders for threats, intimidation and suppression of free speech.
Larry L - you confuse me. You do realize that FirstRead is typically closet in favor of Obama? If you want the article you're crying for, try Chuck Todd's own --

By the way, nice article Chuck.
So Jon, you have an issue with the Abu Ghraib story? Why? Too graphic? What's the matter... the truth hurt your widdle feewings or something? Jeez...

This is the problem I have with people like you. You don't want the TRUTH... no, all you want are 'feel-good' pieces of tripe in the paper. You are more concerned with 'decency' or 'patriotism' or some other crap than actual hard FACTS and hard investigative journalism. No wonder society is going to hell these days... people have become a bunch of damn wimps who cannot handle TRUTH.

Man, I pity you and your ilk. Seriously.
The day I see a believable NY Times artical about a Republican is the day more than 10% of Americans can understand the New Yorker.
..and theres mittflip lurking out there in the distance...silent...licking his chops...waiting to pounce...
Interesting that the people on the right think the NY Times is in the pocket of the DNC and the people on the left think it is in the pocket of the RNC. The NYT was a cheerleader for the war in Iraq and ran the notorious Judith Miller articles that helped lie us into that war. They have Andrew Sullivan, another cheerleader for Bush and the Iraq war and recently hired the notorious (for always being wrong) William Kristol. I guess they are an equal opportunity offender.
Eric S. - the right-wing nuts at the NY Post come to mind, as well. No trash talk for them?

Two words for you so aghast at this development: Swift boating.

You live by wretched lies and innuendo - you die by it. Sleep tight.
The NYTimes endorsed John McCain.  I am really surprised they ran with this story.  If there aren't more details then they deserve condemnation.  It seems like a non-story at this point; unless the NYT's rush to judgement is the story.
How come the old man has a Barbie Doll beside him every where he goes?
I watched John McCain's press conference this morning.  I couldn't help but notice that his body language was not consistent with his words.  His rapid blinking, inappropriate laughter, and nervousness are indicators that he may not be telling the truth.  I don't think we've heard the end of this story.

The best predictor of human behavior is prior behavior.  If an individual has cheated before, or covered something up before, than they are more likely to do it a second, third or fourth time.

We haven't seen the end of this story.
