McCain won't go after NYT 'anymore'

Posted: Friday, February 22, 2008 11:56 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Kelly O'Donnell
At a media availability in Indianapolis today, McCain said he would not talk about New York Times/lobbyist news reports or the allegations again. He said he answered questions at his press conference yesterday and stressed that he is "moving on."

He was asked to react to a White House spokesman's comments today that the Times has a record of "dropping bombshells" on Republican presidential candidates. McCain declined and when pressed that his campaign has been going after the paper, McCain responded, "not anymore."

McCain 08!!!

Obama is not going to win a general election. The boy is a fool.
Obama's candidacy and the New York Times attempts to slime John McCain will energize the GOP base to vote in big numbers this November.
What was that statement by the Japanese Admiral after the attack on Pearl Harbor?..."I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant"
I'm a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
But, I'll happily vote for an Annapolis graduate, a Naval Aviator, a war hero and former P.O.W. BEFORE I vote for someone like "Pimp Daddy B.O.," who says he wants to sell our country out to terrorist thugs, and communists, and who's wife says she's "finally" proud to be an American.

Is he going to go after "Hillary the Hypocritical"?  Cause it doesn't seem like the media is willing to do it... apparently BOTH parts of her "touching" statement from the debate last night were ripped off separately from Bill Clinton and John Edwards.  She took the "my hits aren't near as bad as the hits on average Americans" from Bill... and she took the "going to be fine" part from John Edwards.

There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, except that she just spent two-three days trying to rail against Obama for using a few lines one of his campaign chairs told him to use...
Patty....it's not just that he's a fool.
It's that his wife says she's "finally" proud to be an American, and that he says he wants to sell us out to terrorist thugs and communists.
Ahhh.....NO!
We don't need another Jimmy Carter, regardless of his race or color.
Gee...how scary. This non-event is going to awaken the Republican base...all 20% of voters...and turn them out for McWarMonger. Well, except for all the evangelicals who hate him, that is. How about waking me up when Obama gets sworn in.
Good move Senator McCain. It gets real boring real fast answering questions from this so called 'News' paper (more like a Slime paper) without the NYT's answering for their own behavior. The Times should be ignored, not just by McCain, but by everyone.
He'll have to answer now that his statement from yesterday is contradictied by a sworn statement he gave five years ago...

the wheels keep coming off the straight talk express
Still trying to shove BO down our throats?Thought this was about Mccain, not Hillary. She is alll over the media about how wonderful she was in the debate last night.BO must have thought so too as he kept saying I agrree with Hillary.Do you drink kool aid for breakfast too?
McCain has been tainted by the Nytimes story and it seems the story has some legs. The substance of the story is for real and I expect more news to come out of it.

Media is going to scrutinize all McCain dealing while serving as Chairman of Commerce Committee. McCain has not denied the substantive part of the story, he need to deny it firmly or else his credibility is on the line.

Did his relationship with the lobbyist cloud his judgment?  As Mr. Reformer, why did he fly on the same airline with the woman? Why did he allow lobbyist to fund his campaign? These are substantive difference McCain need to address.

Did he write letter on behalf of the woman?

This is just business as usual in a campaign - those who support McCain will deny, those who do not will try to keep the story going.  At this point in time I see McCain's biggest problem as trying to convince voters to go along with his call to war.  That Iraq war is bleeding us dry, causing harm to our own economy, forcing us to borrow more money from China, and taking funds away from issues that matter here at home.  Iraq casualty count is up to 4277 and that doesn't even count those who have died in Afghanistan.  I personally don't care if McCain has been cheating on his wife - I DO care about our soldiers.
J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY,

Another Hillary supporter whinin; what else do you have to say, little jerk?
So why the about-face, Johnny? Wow, you and your bunch sure looked ready for war with The Times. What happened, Johnny? Why the wimping out?

Wouldn't be this by any chance, would it?

I am quite sure this is not the end of this with Mc Cain and Vicki.  Mc Cain lied yeesterday in his interview.  He denied ever doing anything to disgrace his country.  I guess he forgot about Keating 5.  The Ethics commitee did not find him innocent.  More will follow with evidence of his Commerce Committee decisions.  Mc Cain perhaps does not accept ear marks, but he sure seems to have his hand out for other moneyies.  He has a close connection to Lobbyist.  His Senate office is run by a Lobbyist.
I think it was inappropriate for the White House to go after the New York Times.  Once again it is obvious that the White House is being run for the good of the Republican party instead of the country and the American people.  It is ironic since the White House relied on Judith Miller to help sell the lies running up to the Iraq invasion in the pages of the New York Times. Like Rush said, if you reach out your hand to them they will bite it off.  Maybe the Times will learn that cozying up to the White House did not buy them any love.
J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY,

Another Hillary supporter whinin; what else do you have to say, little jerk?
Bee

I don't think he is a Hillary supporter or even a McCain supporter or even a supporter of our country or system of government.  Hillary is too classy a lady to want his support.
Anyone here want to consider that the only folks ripping McCain have been the far right? Did you consider even once that maybe, just maybe the story was promoted by them to the NYT?
Do you drink kool aid for breakfast too? -- HMT-MI

Ha, an admission, not that one was needed
"...J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY,

Bee (Sent Friday, February 22, 2008 12:32 PM)

I have lots more to say Bee, you un-American, ObaMANIAC cockroach.
So do the rest of us who won't support "Pimp Daddy B.O." in his efforts to sell this country out to terrorist thugs and communist dictators.
You can kiss our arses, if you don't like what we say.
We will NEVER vote for Obama, and he won't beat McCain without us.
nuanced.....and that is the perfect name for you by the way.
You wouldn't know a thing about class or Hillary if either were staring you in the face.
Hillary IS a classy lady, and she deserves to be President. She wouldn't sell her country out to terrorist thugs or communist dictators, like "Pimp Daddy B.O." will.
Go ahead and vote for your little Obama. It just proves how classLESS and UN-American YOU are!
This story isn't done yet...johnny lecturer is turning out to be nothing more than another DC insider playing the same game of semantics...admit it john, she wagged her tail in front of you and you sold out the american taxpayer for the cheap thrill..
I'm with you, Merle:
I will NEVER vote for Obama! I want an experienced President, not an American Idol Rock Star Pimp Daddy. If it can't be our Classy Candidate Hillary Clinton, then ObamaManiacs should get ready for ALL of Hillary's supporters to happily give their support to John McCain, an experienced and decorated War Hero. NO MORE OBAMA! (BEE:GO BACK TO YOUR MY.SPACE PAGE UNTIL YOU GROW UP!)
If as the saying goes "ignorance is bliss", there are some mighty blissful folks doing postings here.
Hello All!
I'm J. Merle Stanley's Conscious. A big howdy to everybody here, thanks for having me. Just wanted to let you know that I'm a big ol' racist, promoting racist language with my choice use of "Pimp Daddy B.O.", and how fanatically fantastic it feels to call other Americans unpatriotic. It's awesome. You should try it sometime. You'll get a special "thrill go up your leg". I, by no means, am your average Hillary supporter by the way. I'm just a little too fringe (see: racist/crazy) for them.

Anyway, thanks again for hosting me and my comments.
Have a fantastic day!
I'm surprised at how ignorant and how hypocritical people can be. J.Merle Stanley, how can you in all sincerity and with your conscience intact be arguing over issues that have been debunked several time. "he wants to sell us to thugs and terrorist. Its either you have been brainwashed which is really bad in this 21st century or you are just willing to wallow in ignorance.
Obama might not be the best(he is by no means (perfect), but one thing is clear, he is better than Clinton or Mcain. Politics is about timing, 2004, he might not have stood a chance but as at this moment he is better. If Al Gore was running he probably would defeat Obama.
And by the way, the very core of american values is mutual respect not the foul and silly vituperation that you are pouring on people that disagree with you.
It is a shameful thing that we have not learnt to disagree without been disagreeable- the ver ything Obama is saying.
negative attacks dont work- you should at least have learnt that from HRC campaign and the losses. On a final note , i feel your pain and i would probably feel that way but pls the people supporting Obama are not idiots. If you really care about this country, you would stop this divide and conquer approach that has failed time and time again.

A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE.
J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY,

Since you live in New York, I don't have to worry about your vote for McCain. For every vote that goes to McCain in NY, Obama will match it by two votes in the same NY. If Hillary could not win decisively in NY, what makes you think McCain will do that?

Frankly, I don't see how New York will go for McCain, it is just impossible. I know you're emotionally attached to Hillary but calling Obama a pimp daddy is just ridiculous. I guess that is why Hillary is loosing.

FYI: McCain will not win any state in the North East. Like i said before, you're a little jerk who is basing decision on emotion rather than reason.
this is an unfolding story. wait and see. I think the NYT has more than just what came out the first day. Already, today more meet has been added to the story. alot more is likely to come out. coming to the press conference he held, if you understand body language it seems there is more John knows than what he said. note that he was caught up saying he had NEVER called the firm directly, but immediately someone reminded him, and he 'apologised'; for forgeting?
What I like is all the supposed Democrats that leave messages like J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY who says it is a Hillary democrat but now will vote Obama, because of the NYT article or whatever reason. Let's face facts. If you support Hillary then you support abortion rights, you support strong environmental laws, you support eliminating Bush tax cuts, eding the war etc etc etc - just like Obama. So regardless of who wins the democratic nomination you should still have that same beliefs. If you dont then you need to evaluate why you vote...for a person, or for a platform. If you don't like Barack fine, but don't show how either 1 ignorant you are or 2 how you are a closet bigot by posting racist views in the guise of a democrat. It is pretty obvious and no your not changing any body's mind with your dribble. Republicans you guys are amazing to say the least.
Cathy, Upstate NY,

Obviously, you assume I am part of the young Obamaniac who doesn't have a clue about politics let alone government. Guess what? You're wrong.

May i suggest you go back to your history book and do a little research on when last time a Republican presidential candidate win New York. I am not going to engage in an emotional debate with you but a factual one.
John Mc Cain wants to keep our men and women in a 1300-year old civil war....for the forseeable future....100 years.  He is a carbon copy of George W Bush without the apparent alcohol or drug addictions.
No..Mc Cain will not loose because of a NYT piece..he will loose because we are sick and tired of the red state-blue state divide.
Mccain is nothing more than a self righteous pandering phony OLD Washington insider with a lot of experience at accomplishing nothing.
Senators Clinton and Obama basically agree on all issues and issues should be what are important this fall. If a democrat votes for McCain, he is a closet republican and is voting for another 4 years of the what we have received over the last 8 years.
J. Merle,
I don't know if you are drinking Kool Aid, but your ranting is so hateful and purely ignorant, my friend. Saying Obama wants to sell our coutnry to terrorists perhaps reflects your neo-Nazi upbriging.
Get up and educate yourself. Read his books, and do fact checking before you blow out. Be calm, my friend! Otherwise, I would think you are a total war monger if you can only back those voting for the Iraq war, a messy war resulting in thousands of lost lives.
Cathy, if you voted for W both times, you were voting for someone who relishes in his ignorance and lack of experience. W ran as an outsider in 2000.  To call Obama ignorant is calling the kettle black. W was only governor of Texas and ruined that state's economy. He just carried it over to the White House. Look at our current economy, it is all W's makings. His blind loyalty to rich people and corporations is only matched by his use of GOD to justify his positions. The scariest thing this president said is A HIGHER FATHER TOLD HIM TO INVADE IRAQ. Damn the facts, past history, or knowledge. This war was started by W's GOD. That way he can sleep like a baby at night. The Iraq war is not his responsibility anymore. He put it in GOD's hands. So any deaths that result are part of GOD's WILL. It is scary that a president decides to start a war after talking to his personal GOD. Cathy is this the type of experience you want? Instead of using facts, data, and all inforamtion available, he chooses to go to a back room and have a personal discussion with GOD and then start a war.  You talk all about experience, why did you not demand it when you voted for W. Funny you voted to put an idiot in office and have the gall to question anybody's experience. I can only think of one word: HYPOCRIT.
Bill Keller, the slimeball at NYT, who okd the story about Mccain's supposed extramarital affair, is no saint either. He got a woman (John Kerry's exgirlfriend ) pregnant, left his wife for his trophy wife. Ok for the MSM to fool around, but not ok for others.
http://bigheaddc.com/2008/02/21/ny-times-editor-bill-keller-had-affair/

McCain is your typical entrenched lying politician who gives a new meaning to Quid pro quo. As per Newsweek, He stated in a deposition in 2002 that he received 20,000 campaign dollars from the ceo of Paxson as well as being wined/dined along with riding on a corporate jet. Guess who worked for Paxson no other than that lovely blond lobbiest. Republicans love to throw the mud on Democrats vis-a-vis the Clintons but RESORT TO LIES, DENY AND CHARACTER ASSASSINATION thru their well paid co-horts(media) and their absolute loyalty to their party.
First Read,
I don't understand J Merle Stanley from NY and his cult-like backers. This blog is so full of hateful posts that only members of the neo Nazi movement would greatly appreciate. I am not trying to attack anyone, but I thought the Democratic Party shoul not even welcome these kinds of highly uneducated, bigoted folks who can only whine. I just cannot find anything bad about Obaa to mak me cry foul and attack him. So obviously, these people are a bunch of hired hands trying to be professional hit men on this post.
They are totally blind o reality and won't accept facts. They are so desperately seeking to find something of substance to give them reason to be s hateful, but they don't seem to find any. I am pretty sure they are a classof warriors like MCcain, but they are not as bigoted as he is.
Mrs Obama once introduced him as her "babies daddy".
SHEESH!!!
What a loser.
I really don't understand why there's a filtering process here if it's not to filter out racist screeds like the one from J. Merle Stanley above.  It's Ok to disagree or to not like a candidate but to refer to Obama as "Pimp Daddy B.O." is nothing, if not racist.  It has no place here and I can't, for the life of me, understand why you guys allow it to be published.
HAHA!! J. Merle, did Obama really say that? Is he really a pimp? HAHA!! That Obama I tell you--he sure had me fooled. All the while I thought he was a United States Senator.

Man these stupid, young, college educated Dems.  They just don't know. They have awakened the sleeping bigo..oops, I mean the sleeping giant. Just wait till November.
Ooops, I meant to say that the J. Merle gang is a bigoted cult, but John McCain is not as bigoted as they are -- they are really hard to be comprehended. Maybe they are chewing on drugs while they type.
j Merle << sell us out to terrorist thugs and communists....>> You are an idiot throwback to the 50's paranoia "The Russians are coming....The Russians are coming..." First of all, The Shrub has made us LESS safe now that a third of all national reserves/guards are fighting an endless war in Iraq so we all better pray that we are not attacked by biological/chemical weapons, second is that the idiot commander in chief almost outsourced our port security to Dubai and third we borrowed billions thru the commie Chinese so we Americans can drive Hummers and fight this so-call war on terror which is BUNK. Americans have a right to thier opinions as does Michelle Obama, so get off your patronizing patriotic bandwagon, and realize that the Supreme Court by a 7 to 2 vote a few years ago protected as FREE SPEECH THE RIGHT TO BURN THE FLAG. The most important right that we all should have is the right to dissent which has unfortunatley been demonized for the last 7 years by this despicable adminstration, enablers, apologists, and sprewing hate mongers like yourself.
Mrs Obama once introduced him as her "babies daddy".
SHEESH!!!
What a loser.

FJ,
They are not strupid, educated, young Demo. Don't be like J. Merle in a certain way. Dems include a wide vareity of ages, ideologies, race, culture, etc. They are jsut opposed to a corporation-loving, corrupt GOP ful of hypocrites. I  say hypocrites because they somewhat seem to see God in the way the Nazis did, because while they see God as genuine and loving, they hate other people just because they want everyone to follow their ideologies. They should be the party of ideologues, not the party of Lincoln. I am speaking of conservative Republicans, not moderate Republicans.
bobf:
I did NOT vote for GW Bush in either election...in 2000 I voted for Al Gore, and was horribly disappointed when he had the Presidency stolen from him. In 2004 I voted for John Kerry, and we all know how that turned out. I have always believed that I was a Democrat, but after witnessing so much vicious behavior from a divided Democratic Party, I question if the term "democrat" even means anything anymore. You can "accuse" me of being a "closet Republican" likes it's some kind of insult, but the party lines have become very blurred for me. I know that all of you Obama people are very passionate about your candidate, but I was also very passionate about Hillary. We all have our reasons for being loyal to our candidate, but the bitterness and venom that has been thrown back and forth between a supposedly "united" democratic party, has left me feeling extremely disillusioned with the whole process. It is difficult to try and defend my candidate when a multitude of Obama supporters attack my every word. I find it interesting that when David Shuster said that Chelsea Clinton was being "pimped out" by her Mom, you all thought that was funny. Now, Merle calls Obama "pimp daddy" and suddenly it's a racial slur??? Where was all this outrage a few weeks ago on Chelsea's behalf? I'm just saying that I'm sick and tired of the hypocrisy and the double standard when it comes to Saint Obama, but everyone else gets vilified and raked over the coals. I truly believe that Obama is not ready to be President, so where does that leave me? I did just read that Ralph Nader might be running....
We are not loyal to a particular candidate, we are loyal to honesty, integrity, fiscal responsibility... We are trying to choose a candidate we think espouse tese ideals, and Hillary does not. McCain does not. Look how lavishly Hillary spent her campaign money ($11,000 on pizza??) and look where she is now. We really DON'T want a president like that. Now look at Obama's well managed campaign.
Yes, the party lines are blurred, but we are not trying to select a candidate out of loyalty to a particular party, but loyalty to America and her principles. We reject bigotry, ignorance, reckless spending, deceptive campaign tactics to winvotes, and  so on. We are not saying that Obama is completely clean, of course. He has made several missteps, but not enough to damage the integrity of the rpesidency.
The "Democratic" and "Republican" terms are nothing but party names. The Nazis of Germany called themselves National German Workers' Party, the Chinese government calls itself People's Party (its courts are often known as People's Court)... So what? That does not mean that any given name/term truly reflects what the group stands for. The Democratic Party does stand up for citizens' welfare, but it also espouses many of the principles of the GOP and behaves like the GOP sometimes. After all, the GOP and the Democrats are Americans, so don't expect much difference in their behavior.
Cathy from Upstate,
That is because you have been asleep all month, my friend. Seriously, you don't even make th effort to research and fact check. Hillary only has 7 years of elective office to herself, while Obama has 12. Obama even has more years of experience in politics before becoming president than Ronald Reagan, Bush and others. He even has the same amount of years ofexperience in elective office as FDR.
So, what do you want, my friend? Join the J. Merle club? Sure if that is what you want. You have the right to throw in your views, but they are not accurate views after all.
"J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY"

You have way too much free time on your hands!!
So McCain is the "straight talk express" supposedly, how does that square with "The Keating 5"?

Do any of you short term memory having fellow Americans remember this, or did you conveniently forget?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

Also, this fits right in with the current story from the NYT (even though it was sort of a hit job).  McCain and the lobby, McCain and cheating on his wife.....these are all things that he HAS done in the past, that's FACT 'my friends'.

McCain is a typical, dirty, long term congressman....how does that equate to 'change'?  He supports ALL of Bush's policies, how is that 'change'?

Don't let McCain fool you, he's a wolf in sheeps clothing, a warmonger, a liar, a cheater, and a fake.

Wake up America.
