Clinton speaks to the press

In a press conference aboard the flight from Cleveland to Columbus, Clinton wanted to talk about the campaign's upcoming economic summit meeting in Zanesville -- which will focus "not only on problems, but solutions" in Ohio where the economy is "unbelievably important."

"Inflation is up, prices of everything are going up," she said. "We are sliding into a recession." When asked what's the major difference between herself and Obama on the economy, Clinton replied with "experience," "specifics..." And she then outlined her plan for a moratorium on foreclosures and a freeze on subprime adjustable mortgages.

Regarding last night's debate, Clinton said she "drew some good contrasts" with Obama. "I was really pleased by it. I thought that once again we drew some good contrasts and obviously I was pleased to talk about issues that I, you know, care a lot about and know something about and thought that that came across."

She disagreed with the prize fight analogy about knockout punches -- and whether any were landed -- saying it was a "debate" not a fight. I think that a lot of people who watched it would come away and feel very positive and comfortable about what I said and what I presented as my credentials and my positions on these issues and I think there were some real contrasts that were drawn."

On the perception that the race could soon be over, Clinton noted that many people have yet to vote, and those folks are focusing on the big questions of who's the better commander-in-chief and who would best handle the economy.

Look up the word denial in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Hillary.
Freezing interest rates is a HORRIBLE idea.

It'd be a great way to drive up the current standard rate, because banks will have to make up the difference somewhere, and would do absolutely nothing to help the people who can't afford their mortgages once its unfrozen.

The chief editor of Money Magazine said freezing mortgage rates is the worst idea he's ever heard.
Why doesn't the press ask Obama about his 20 years with the all black church and his Pastor who loves and praises Farrakhan??? Farrakhan who is the leader of Nation of Islam, who hates jews and whites.

Since he side-stepped the question last night,  I think people deserve an answer now.
She should get out of the race.

Its over. No reason to pull a Huckabee.
It was so nice having Hillary in this race.   She did her best but at times came off wrong.  I will be sorry to see her go.  Fair well madam...what a lady.  Bitch IS the new black!!  They slammed her in the media, she deserves better.  Ok, with that said let's get down to the task of selecting the new POTHUS.  Obama for preisdent!!
Hillary, do your hear that--it is the sound of water under the bridge--it is the sound of your campaign--losing.

Lewis has said his decision to change from Clinton to Obama was harder then his march across the bridge in Selma 43 years ago when he was beaten and bloodied by Alabama State Troopers. Lewis tells NBC's Andrea Mitchell he has put a call into Senator Clinton but has not yet informed her of his decision and has not yet told Senator Obama.

Adding one to Obama's superdelegate total, and subtracting one from Clinton, the superdelegate count is now Clinton 255 and Obama 201.

I was amazed to hear about obama's ties to Farakhaan. I imagine the people if Isreal are scared to death right now. If obama aligns himself with people that align themselves with Farakhaan then he has to have some favor toward the hate he preaches. His own preacher said that Farakhaan was of "greatness" and obam,a sat still and said nothing until clinton had to urge him too - he is such a pushover and say anything at any given time - no wander big nedia/big money wants him in office and gives him a free ride so they can puppet him later.
It's funny that you have a headline that suggests the debate didn't change anything but today we're seeing super delegates switching from Clinton to Obama.  Maybe something HAS actually changed.  Obama is winning and more people are recognizing it.
Is that denial or ignorance ?
I find it FRIGHTENING that as a United States citizen, we have a Democratic Candidate for the Presidency of the United States, whom we can not use his middle name..Anyone who uses his middle name is looked upon as a racist...I am not a racist, but, find this situation very troubling..The media has "elected" Obama and they NEVER use his full name...As Hillary would say, "SHAME ON THEM"...
It is obvious to me and America that Hillary Clinton is being made a villain by the media. The republicans and independents are voting in the open primaries for Barack Obama since they believe he is the easiest to beat. Wake up people. You are being bamboozled!
50% of this nation is women. It has been 200 hundred years of men in office. It is our time!!  Hillary is way more qualified than Obama and is more than capable to be the President of the United States.

Watch the documentary Hacking Democracy and get educated on the subject. All of these votes for Obama are fixed by the Republicans so they can win the Presidency!
Yes, lets "freeze on subprime adjustable mortgages" so the idiots that bought houses they couldn't afford can continue to get off cheap, while those looking to buy an affordable house will now have to pay MORE interest to make up for the money being lost on the idiots.  Do you honestly think the banks aren't going to pass on that loss to its other costumers?  For every idiot that gets a hand out rate freeze, some other decent person has to pay up.   She should realize this as this is her ENTIRE arguement for her mandate and how those that game the system would be a "hidden tax" on the rest.

Well you stupid moron, this rate freeze you want to pander to people, is nothing but a "hidden tax" on everyone else.

Just shows how out of touch she is with how economics and free markets work.
Senator Clinton used the boxing imagery in the press conference.  You might recall her holding up a pair of boxing gloves bellowing "Meet me in Texas".

No knock out punches were landed last night.  We saw a few jabs and some pretty swank footwork from the Illinois Senator.

No game changers.  And that is bad news for Team Clinton, because they need SEVERALA game changers if they want a plausible reason to keep this race going.  Game changers; not SNL lines or canned cackles.

Put the Points on the board.
Win or go home.
Dont' get dead.
The woman is a crock!
Interesting that Clinton overspent on her own campaign, had to "loan" her campaign 5 million dollars, but insists she has a better plan to fix the economy than Senator Obama.  She can't oversee the economy of a run for the presidency let alone the country.  Meanwhile, Obama is the only candidate that hasn't squandered and mismanaged his campaign finances.
Shoo, Hillary.  Don't bother me. Obama 08
where are her tax returns?  It's inexcusible for her to not reveal them. what is she hiding from the people she wants to represent as commander in chief?
If Obama is up by only, let's be generous and say 200 delegates, how is the race over when there is still 750 delegates up for grabs, not including Super Delegates?  The media is telling all of these states that their votes don't count.  I'm not saying this is going to happen, but what if Hillary wins TX and OH next week and then Obama makes some huge mistakes?  Wouldn't states like PA and ME vote differently than what the press is telling them?  Call me crazy, but I think even Obama admitted last night that this race still has a long way to go.
I believe all women should be proud of Hillary thus far.  She has shown grace and style (in spite of the media being against her). The media is White, I thought White protect their own and love their women but this was never about Hillary, rather about Obama not winning in November.  This well thought out plan of the Republican party and the media has worked.  The media really wants Obama and McCain to be on the ticket in November.  Who will the media support once (if) Hillary is out.  OBAMA IT WON'T BE YOU.  This will be Obama's first real lesson as to how/why America operates the way it does.  Probably as much as 30% of Obama's votes will go to McCain in November.  The only race he will carry in large percentage will be Blacks.  A lote of Edwards and Hillary supporters either will stay at home or vote for McCain.  I see 4 more years of Republican and the Democrats can only blame themselves.  I have voted Democrat all my life but if Hillary lose I also will join the 30%. SHAME ON THE DEMOCRATS AGAIN FOR ALLOWING THE REPUBLICANS TO WIN AGAIN.  Anybody seen Carl Rowe lately.  Ask John McCain.  Rowe if not already will be a team player in McCain elections,  we will lose voices on judges, poor people will lose, might even lose the House and Senate.  Just remember what the Republicans can't get honestly, they know how to steal it!!!!
Unfortunately, Clinton did not act like a commander-in-chief last night. She should have just acted presidential instead of whining about the media situation. Can you imagine her acting this way at a real presidential press conference? "Why do I always get the first question?" "Sorry, I don't like to answer hypothetical questions." "Well, Saturday Night Live agrees with me!"
While watching the debate, I was primarily yelling at Hillary saying, "stop complaining".  That is practically all I got out of her side of this past debate. She can say she had good points all she wants, and while there were maybe 1 or 2 good points on NAFTA made by her, it was pretty much her trying to get the emotional vote from ohio-ans.

Natalie - you need to wake up!  "It's our time"?  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  I am a white female and I will NEVER vote for Hillary Clinton.  Everyone seems to forget all the lies and missteps of the Clinton administration.  Heck, she can't even keep a campaign lucrative and in the black - mostly because of her arrogance.  She claimed the same about job growth last night and blamed it on Gore not winning.  Give me a break.  She doesn't have a leg to stand on with her experience tag line.  I believe that the best predictor of a persons future actions are those of their past.  Hillary Clinton is a loser!  And just because she's a woman doesn't change that.  Wake up Natalie!  You're a great example of gender voting!  I will vote for a person of my gender when they are the right candidate to lead this country....not just because they have the same "parts" as me!
More cheap shots by Contessa Brewer feeding John Kerry anti-Clinton questions.

It's really hard to know who the bigger loser is, Brewer or Kerry.  Brewer is almost David Shuster like in her attacks on Clinton.

The SNL parody was really aimed at the folks on MSNBC who remain Obama lap dogs.

On the brighter side: polls are starting to favor McCain over Obama. McCain is well vetted and Obama is not so that the GOP lead will only get wider. Obama happy talk plays well in caucuses in the primary campaign but will not in the general election.

Nice touch by Hillary last night pointing out the vast number of first questions that are directed at her rather than Obama. It really gets significant when you look into the debates when the subject is changed and who gets the first question.  Good example: V. Putin's successor in Russia.

All respect is gone for Matthews and Olbermann and not much left for Brian Williams and Tim Russert.

It was over an hour into the debate before Obama was pressed on his response...and that's typical of all the debates.
She tends to be a vindictive, angry woman when she is pressured. This is a sign of weakness, and my fear is that her emotional tirade would embarrass this country. Where as Obama is slow to talk which may be due to him thinking about the situation and not acting emotionaly
As a woman, I have the utmost respect for Mrs. Clinton. I am in awe'd and blessed to be alive to see a woman run for president. I like to think of myself as a person that is unbiased/neutral and will gather all of the facts before I make a decision. I have been undecided, however after last night's debate.. I'AM no longer.
For the most part, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama are extremly the same - I say about 90-percent when it comes to their ideas, pledges, programs, etc.
I am choosing Mr. Obama purely and simply because he has consistenly demostrated GREAT CHARACTER and INTEGRITY. I believe that you can trump most experiences in mostly anything with integrity & good character. Mrs. Clinton has failed to get the people to Buy-in to HER - (not Bill) or (not Bill & Hillary). She is very conflicting. She wants to be that strong fighting woman and then on the other hand, she displays weakness through whining, anger and most of all she reflects a deceptive person.

To sum this all up - A person's character can be felt by their presentation via television, radio, in person or in writing. Her tone and character just doesn't win me over and I feel it would hamper bridging and rebuilding relationships.
So many of you Obama supporters are so smug, which I find very offensive.  Let me tell you something, just because superdelegates are "switching" from Clinton to Obama does not mean that Obama would be a better president.  All it means is that this whole Obama thing is "politics as usual" despite Obama's protests to the contrary.

Also, to all of you who are screaming for Hillary to leave the race, check out ABC news website and you will see that Obama and Hillary have almost the identical number of popular votes thus far. (Obama is a little over 11 mil and Hillary is over 10 mil--I think they are less than 400,000 votes apart out of 21 million voters!)  So please, don't act like Hillary is some kind of a joke or that the people who support her are few and far between.  If Obama does win the nomination, he'll need our votes to win--so please stop being so snobbish and nasty.
Senator Clinton is untruthfull when she says she will freeze interest rates for five years.  Their is a global market that drives interest rates.  She is playing very dishonest politics by making this committment.  Once again she will do anything to win.
IT IS OVER. BILLARY KNOWS ITS OVER. The Super Ds are now  getting in line behind the O man. Shortly after next week's primary, she will announce that she is suspending her campaign. She will not have enuf class, however, to enforce the O man.
I am part of the Milion Mna March donation too - and aint nothing wrong with Farakhaan or the nation of islam, it is ok for them to think how they want to think and I personally dont care if obama goes to their church or not
Obama supporters, you have Hilary to thank for preparing him IF he gets the nomination. He had seen nothing but kid gloves so far - even from Hilary.

The debate last night clearly showed how dangerously unprepared he is. Taking a cue from Hilary on Foreign policy to name a few.

Please do not count the chicken yet. I think the last two debates (only 3 between just the two of them) showed/revealed a lot about Barack. Going toe to toe against Hilary who definitely have a better graps and understanding of the issues, he looked very junior. It's a picture of a teacher and a kid.

Guess what, that format - sitting down, exchanging ideas, debating over issues - that's how things are done in the real world. It's always a dialogue, an argument, a debate. It's alarming when you have a President well reahearsed for a monologue. That won't cut it. That's not enough to change anything.

Hillary, where are your tax returns?  I can't believe there is no First Read Thread about her horrible answer and obvious dodging of her tax returns.  Didn't she say her campaign was funded by the American people last night?  Well call me stupid, but I was certain that she said that SHE loaned her campaign 5 million dollars to stay afloat!  Tim pressed her hard for an answer, and she did not give one.  First Read guys- make this one of your threads!!!!  We need to converse about this.  And people, we need to get this mad woman off the candidate trail.  Come on Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island- the nation needs you to stand up, vote and have this over with so that we can unite back together and prepare for the Republican election war.
I think that you can always tell the quality of leadership by their supprters. I would ask anyone to see the comments made by Clinton/McCain supporters and tell me what they conclude.
I dount msnbc will post this !
If Hillary were to show her tax returns now, before the Democratic nominee is chosen, she'd lose for sure!  Here's why...  Her IRS records would show that she did NOT liquidate her assets that would then show a conflict of interest, and the $5M loan she says she made to her campaign might easily prove to be obtained unethically or illegally as well.
Has anyone heard of Larry Sinclair filed a federal lawsuit against Obama and Axelrod? I bet not. Because this is a big scandal that the media is trying so hard not to expose to us the people. It will be so damaging to their golden boy Obama but it will be so sad for us the people not to know something that might change our perception of him.
we live in a political environment where focus of candidates is determined by polls! i e mailed biden months ago and suggested he shift focus to economy as i do most of the shopping for our family of 6 and long ago knew the economy was going sour. the price of milk is almost equal to the increase in gas over past year as are most other groceries! these people don't shop much and are clueless as to the plight of american household budget and their incomes insulate any effect. if biden had listened to me on the budget he would have been ahead of the curve and might still be in the race. i want a candidate to run who actually is an individual who struggles everyday with hard choices and reflects our struggle in the economy and world not someone who can barely recall the hard days and needs a poll to figure it out! i'm sorry biden's out as i felt he had a clue and actually listened to the people he talked to. i don't need an economic summit to figure this out so why do they?
Why don't the press ask her to fork over those income tax statements asap - - before the nomination and more importantly before Tuesday when Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, goes to the polls to vote....What does she have to hide.....hmmmmm
The deeper Hillary is backed into a corner, the nastier this is going to get. My 83-year-old grandmother voted twice for Bill Clinton and voted for Hillary on Super Tuesday. She said Hillary Clinton's "whining" about being questioned first in debates has only capped weeks of Clinton behavior that has my grandmother turned off to the point that she's declaring she wishes she could take back her vote and give it to Obama, although she adds "I don't think he's going to need it."
Did anyone notice that while speaking last night, she said something like, "If Barack were the nominee, as it appears to be..."  I thought that was really interesting, coming from her.
"Freezing interest rates is a HORRIBLE idea. "  That isn't what she said, Ron from TX.  She said she favors a freeze on subprime adjustable mortgages ... not all interest rates.

I'm not so sure I agree with her but I'd like to see her quoted correctly.  God knows she's getting the short end of that one.
Fred C Dobbs,

show me the NON-PARTISAN poll(s) that show McCain gaining favor over Obama please.  I want to see this.
Honestly, Hillary Clinton has become distasteful, bitter, and all-out tacky. She was riding high for months in the media's favor, but when the VOTERS actually understood there was more than the ONE "obvious" choice, she panicked. Now she is complaining that the media is unfair? No Hillary, it's just the fact you aren't the front runner anymore. Bow out gracefully, stop dividing the party, and do what's best for this nation. Not what's best to stroke your ego and legacy of a Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton White House. Your cheap shots at Obama only discredit your "likability" and has made hard-core Democrats turn away from you.

Enough is enough. Time for REAL change against the establishment. Obama all the way.
Why isn't the Media demanding her to let the voters take a look at her tax returns?  The media dogs Barak and Michelle about every little b.s. detail but they don't have enough integrity to do thier jobs and ask that woman and her husband to release her tax returns asap.....and the other documents that clearly points out her agneda next year....Does she not want folks to see what she really stands for and the Media is definitely protecting her because the media is a) either paid off by them or 2) has something to hide also....Sister HIllary, fork over the tax returns NOW!!!  All you have to do is release the paperwork which I am sure you are more organized than your campaign managers and have those tax papers readily available....Stop b.s. the country!!!
Hillary was grasping last night.  It is what you do when you are trying very hard to win.  She is brilliant and I am happy the country got to know her better.  Having said that, I also agree she should stay in the race until the next set of states votes their preference.  I would not want to hear over the next 8 months that those states never got a chance to "weigh in" on this election.
Thanks Natalie for such great incite about independents and Republicans. I don't like open primaries. These white men are not going to vote for a black man in the general election. They are making a mockery of the political process and making fools of the Democratic Party.
Why are the Obama supports so hateful, mean, and nasty? Even if he gets the nomination, you don't have enough supporters alone to beat the Republican candidate.
MSNBC bias for Obama is embarrassing. Does Williams, Olbermann, and Russett feel that they will lose their manhoods if they treated Hillary Clinton with a modicum of respect and fair coverage.
Those Democrats who say that they would vote for McCain if Clinton wins or vice versa need to get real with themselves.  Besides character and personality, the two candidates are essentially the same.  If you would be willing to trade either one of them for McCain, or Bush III as I like to call him, the you are deluded and don't know what it means to be a Democrat.  How could any of you do this to your country?  It's sick.  Regardless of which Democrat wins the nomination,  I will stick by their side.
John Doe... your rightwing 'talking points' are stale. Come back here with something of substance - doubtful - otherwise go away and let the adults do the talking.
Clinton really needed something in this last debate.  She never got.  This could far too little too late for Clinton to have it help her in the Ohio and Texas primaries.  Obama has been making in-roads with so many groups that Clinton has counted on.  This is looking alot like Clinton might not make it much further.
Why don't the press ask her to fork over those income tax statements asap - - before the nomination and more importantly before Tuesday when Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, goes to the polls to vote....What does she have to hide.....hmmmmm
It is true that Hillary is divisive. We have Dems talking about if she doesn't win they'll vote Republican. Senator Obama is inspiring, admired and America needs a president like him. Senator Clinton has none of these qualities.

My vote is for Barack Obama. But if he loses the nomination there's no way I would vote Republican. I would vote for Hillary.

I would like to see some of my blogs posted. I think I make good points.
Why does Sen. Clinton keep going on and on about her experience?  She has only 2 terms as a US Senator.  She can't count her "experience" in the White House any more than my wife can count her years being married to me as "experience" being a software developer.

Sure, she has tons of experience in public service, but that doesn't qualify her to run a country.  As others have pointed out, she can't even balance her campaign budget - how will she manage a multi-trillion dollar economy?

And what the heck is wrong with sitting down to talk to other world leaders without preconditions as Sen Obama has suggested?  At least it would start the talking and stop the same old posturing that hasn't gotten the US anywhere in the last 20 years.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not buying the rhetoric from Sen Clinton.
