Obama buys 2-minute ads in OH, TX

Posted: Thursday, February 28, 2008 4:32 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under: ,

From NBC's Chuck Todd
According to a source who tracks TV ad buying, Obama campaign has bought two-minute blocks in every market in both Ohio and Texas on Monday. It's unclear what the content will be, but sounds like it will be some sort of closing message. As we find out more, we'll report more.

*** UPDATE *** Some more details... the ads are to begin running March 3rd, the day before the primaries, statewide in both Ohio and Texas. It will air on the local evening news at 5 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm or 11 pm on most stations. So far, the ads will not run in Vermont or Rhode Island. Stations have not yet received the ad, so content is not yet known.

--Must be a sex video, yup, that should be about right.
When you get it, how about you post it like you post Hillary's. Whats up with that?
Chuck-

Please have a long talk with Domenico.  His posted articles today are irrelevent, and in the case of the Al Quaeda article, imflammatory.  He needs your direct supervision and intervention to cease the petty postings.
Can't wait to see it!  My gf and I cheer every time Obama comes on the TV!
Officials in the Clinton Campaign responded to this news by either falling to the ground kicking and screaming or trying to hold their breath.
You can do that when you know how to manage you campaign finances.

Ditzy, disorganized candidates don't have money for TV ads at critical times

Talk about 'pocket book' issues, Barack

Talk about things that appeal to working people
Talk about NAFTA and health insurance and getting it right the first time on foreign policy
No re-takes or do-overs in the White House

Talk about restoring integrity to the White House after 15 years of lies and cover ups, 15 years of scandals and corruption, 15 years of dishonesty....

Let's shut down this priamry race in Texas !!
You might even win in Ohio
When we see an ad for Sen. Obama, we know his message is grounded in truth and sincerity.  It is refreshing to know that there is still a candidate in this race that has integrity and one who honestly cares for the US citizens.  I look forward to seeing it.
That thud you just heard is the last breath getting sucked out of the Billary camp when they estimate the amount of money needed to buy that much air time in that many markets.
This is an excellent use of the donations of his ONE MILLION DONORS.  Unlike, you know, Dunkin Donuts and Mark Penn's consulting firm.

Thanks Barack!
he can use every last penny he has and he still won't win ohio.
[Can't wait to see it!  My gf and I cheer every time Obama comes on the TV!

--Now, I would really be impressed if you'd get a two-person wave going.  I, personally, perform the 'worm'.
HE WILL SOME UP HIS LACK OF ANY EXPERIENCE TO BE PRESIDENT, AND THOSE WITH NO BRIGHTER MIND THAN A TOAD WILL VOTE FOR HIM.
The HRC camp once again plays on race in Texas.  This is soooo sadd....leading HRC supporter (Hispanics) makes racist comments....

I am a WHITE female that is sick of it all.  I will not be voting FOR HRC
I know Hillary spent $1300 for donuts but did Penn have to eat 'em all
Obviously Obama raised more in February than Shrillary. I do not believe these ads contain family vacation clips but will have an awesome impact.
The first time in my life I actually look forward to seeing messages from a politician! Thank you Barack!
It will admit that Obama had a crush on Hillary. Or, it (the ad) will promise J. Merle Stanley from NY to become his running mate if elected.
All kidding, First Read. It isthe longest ad buy I have heard of, if anything. I wonder if he is making lots of bucks by the hour. All he needs to do in OH and TX is to stay close to remain a frontrunner, while Hillary must win both states.
I feel sorry for Hillary, but she has been a very divisive candidate. Writting off a whole bunch of red states Obama won and lumping together his supporters into a single stereotype. That is what a polarizing leader does, one who creates ever greater division in our nation and the world. And a candidate who portrays herself or himself as a 'fighter' shows us that she or he will do the job of the presidency by fighting arrogantly like Bush, not rallying support and reaching out to all Americans and creating consensus, because America is not all Democratic or all Republicans; this is a country with so much diversity that even a fighter cannot control.
Hey Charlie,

Quit your croaking!
Hooray! I think Obama does better in a longer format anyway. Chuck, if you can give us some time and networks where it will play, I'll TIVO the whole show just to see the commercial.

Also, I'm adopting a new middle name:
Obama can afford it.

By my count, he is on track for 655,000 new donors in February, plus additional matching donations from existing users. This translates out into approximately $90 million dollars for February.

Yes, I said ninety million dollars. And no huge campaign debts, whereas Hillary Clinton has at least $12M as of last month, and probably another $5M for Mark Penn's firm.

She better hope she wins both Ohio AND Texas, because if you thought she was getting outspent before... well, it could, infact, get worse.
Dee Dee Myers makes the most important point of all about Obama vs. Hillary: If a woman had the same amount of experience as Obama, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the primary race.
Good for Obama. I'm hoping he sweeps the March 4th primaries so the Democrats can have some "down" time to prepare for the general election. I'm tired of the cat-fighting.

(P.S. I notice MSNBC has given Hillary a "News Front Page" or some such. Where's Obama's?
I guess he is spending somemore of Oprahs money. Wonder if she has bought her Blue dress yet. Of course we wouldn't hear anything about it on msnbc even if she did. Her name isn't Clinton .
"HE WILL SOME UP HIS LACK OF ANY EXPERIENCE TO BE PRESIDENT, AND THOSE WITH NO BRIGHTER MIND THAN A TOAD WILL VOTE FOR HIM." - Charlie

That was just precious.
I've got a crush on Chuck Todd
Great... as is Obama is not already saturating the airwaves here in Cleveland. I guess I will have to turn off my TV on Monday, it is tiring having to switch channels every time he comes on the air with empty rhetoric and his false working class imagery. I cannot wait for Tuesday to come so I won't have to bombarded with this stuff. Arg.
$90,000,000??? Man, if running his campaign is any indication of how Sen. Obama will run our country, we'll have heaven right here on earth.  I'm so looking forward to that day.
Two words: Edwards endorsement.
Smart move.  I believe he and Hillary did this in Iowa.
The Clintons are dividing our party.  We NEED to be unified going in November.  McCain is a Bush Clone.

Has anyone else noticed that Clinton supporters can't spell?  It's not just on this board, but on nearly every one.  Whether their confused about there/their/they're or whose/who's...  it's almost laughable.

It's been widely reported that Clinton supporters are uneducated, but even Charlie and his Some/sum confusion strikes a new low...  especially when he calls ouot Obama supporters and says they are as dumb as toads.

Funny.
Clearly, he trying to close the deal. My bet is the ads will move more voters his way. The Billary camp has to be very concerned. She keeps coming with this 5 point plan and this 10 point plan. These plans puts people to asleep and doesn't speak to what people want from the next President. They and we want a leader, not an administrator.
Remember Hitler one the Popular Vote and the rest is Hitory lets not repeat this with Obama
"Dee Dee Myers makes the most important point of all about Obama vs. Hillary: If a woman had the same amount of experience as Obama, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the primary race."

Well, that's a blanket statement if I've ever heard one.  I would venture to say that most men (let alone black men) with Senator Obama's experience would not be able to mount a primary campaign.  The fact of the matter is Barack Obama is a bit of an exception to the usual rules.  Calling sexism here isn't very constructive.
yes, let's bring back the jimmy carter era, with 30% inflation!
I'm really tired of people getting on here assuming that everyone who supports Obama is an idiot.  Have you not seen the exit polls?  Obama has a commanding lead among educated people.  Hillary is the one who attracts baffoons.  I have three degrees and an IQ of 140, so I am by no means anyone's fool.  Maybe its the Hillary supporters resenting the fact that Obama's supporters actually have brains, in addition to very good memories (the dot com bubble bursting, Whitewater, Travelgate, Filegate, Jennifer Flowers, Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones, "I did not have sexual relations with that money", the tax returns, her white house schedule as first lady, her initial feelings about NAFTA, etc...)  I could go on, but you get my point.
Well, CHARLIE, anyone who types his messages in all caps and writes "SOME" when he means "sum" might be well advised to hesitate before demeaning others' intelligence.
Ron, TX - "Can't wait to see it!  My gf and I cheer every time Obama comes on the TV!"

Good job, Pavlov. What do you do when someone rings a bell?
If everyone could stop being blinded by the glitz that only major $ can provide....

I'm in Austin, TX, and I can tell you there are TONS of us in this state that ARE SICK OF OBAMA ads.

Its terribly obvious by his media buys that he is worried about Hillary in OH & TX.

He can't buy my vote!

I'm going with the experience, not the training wheels.

GO HILLARY!
The ads were probably free judging by the medias behavior of late. Let the propoganda roll. We've seen enough of both candidates to know who they really are. Texans ain't stupid.
I read these comments and sometimes wonder how people can bash Hillary so much and the persons editing this blog let them. People call her Schillary or Billary or attack the fact that she is a woman.  I am disapponted that people can do that yet when other try to use Obama's middle name they are censored. Very interesting. I for one do not want an Obama_Nation.
In response to the commentor who said "If a woman had the same amount of experience as Obama, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the primary race, " all I can say is that it puts both you and Dee Dee in bad regards.

Did either of you mean that statement to come off like an insult to intelligent, inspirational women? Because it does.

If a younger Ann Richards with only a few years of gubernatorial experience was running against Hillary Clinton, based on a solid record of opposing Iraq, lobbyists, etc., she would beat Hillary in a landslide, drawing in Independents, Republicans, etc. And she would do it based on charm, personality, AND intellect.

Some people are just natural leaders... and many Americans don't get that sense from Hillary Clinton. Most Americans simply view complaints about the so-called unfairness of it all as sour grapes, which makes your candidate look, well... kinda whiny, really.
can,t we all just get along
Dexter:  You are the man.  Too Funny.  Keep calling them out! LOL!

You have got to be kidding me!!  The Hitler card?  Really?  We have just reached the bottom of the pathetic barrel.
My new middle name is here to stay (it just makes sense now!)and to put the fear mongers and know-best's of this community on notice, none of you had better not give me ish about it or we WILL disagree while being disagreeable!

There are so many of us running around thinking we've got the wherewithal to tell others what to do and when to it!

Boo! Hiss!

I think it should be up to each individual community member to chose whether they would like to adopt/retain the name or not.
I don't appreciate someone telling me what I should and shouldn't do. I didn't join this community to win popularity contests and I'm not here to 'look cute' or agree with everyone abt everything.

If I want to make a statement by adopting the middle name Hussein then I will.
I am the best judge of what my actions portray and if I wish to emphatically denounce the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred by adopting the name Hussein then I will, period.

Jesse "Hussein" T, Burnsville, MN (Sent Thursday, February 28, 2008 5:32 PM)

*********************************

I am sorry to tell you the Clintons are not the only ones dividing the party. I know the new thing to do is to blame the clintons for everything but Obama and his supporters are also doing a good job dividing the party .
It is amazing to me that everyone loves a fighter except when the fighter is Hillary. She has taken the critics for years and continues to fight for people. She was fighting for people's rights in college when Obama was 4 years old. I wonder how many of the people reading and commenting have ever fought for someone else in their life. If Obama doe win the nomination my prediction is that all his supporters will drop him like a bad habit the minute he makes an incorrect, inexperienced decision that costs lives or money.
It is not about Hillary noty having enough experience in comparison to a male, Settle. Don't be a sexist.
The problem is, American women know electing Hillary will have the appearance of a monarchy. Bush then Clinton, then Bush, and Clinton (and maybe Jeb Bush next) creates the look of a monarchy. Also, isntead of tring to portray herself as a formidable candidate, Hillary has become more and mroe polarizing that women have taken notice. Had she not been as polarizing as she is; had she not voted for the Iraq war and not allowed herself to surrender to the Republicans (Bush in particular); had she been more upfront and released her tax eturns and other essential documents; had she avoided using deceptive and divisive campaign tactics like politics of race, gender, tears, victim and so on; and had she better managed her campaign and cut on her strategist's undeserving high pay, Hillary Clinton would absolutely win the nomination and probably the presidency no matter what the hatemonging conservatives try to do in their quest to block democracy and equality.
Chuck Todd reminds me of Murray on Flight of the Chonchords.
