Obama buys 2-minute ads in OH, TX

Posted: Thursday, February 28, 2008 4:32 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Chuck Todd
According to a source who tracks TV ad buying, Obama campaign has bought two-minute blocks in every market in both Ohio and Texas on Monday. It's unclear what the content will be, but sounds like it will be some sort of closing message. As we find out more, we'll report more.

*** UPDATE *** Some more details... the ads are to begin running March 3rd, the day before the primaries, statewide in both Ohio and Texas. It will air on the local evening news at 5 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm or 11 pm on most stations. So far, the ads will not run in Vermont or Rhode Island. Stations have not yet received the ad, so content is not yet known.

--Sounds like somebody needs to live life beyond the confines of the academic atmosphere.

[I'm really tired of people getting on here assuming that everyone who supports Obama is an idiot.
Carlo, Baton Rouge, Louisiana]
--Carlo, what a crazy name, I've never heard that before.
--Anyway, I don't think that people assume idiot, so much as blind follower.  I would certainly not consider myself a blind follower (I do not get caught up in the flair of Mr. Obama's oratory, but rather his fresh, correct and well-thought-out ideas; political savvy and better politics), and I think that it is a misconception of Obama's supporters.  To the contrary, as Carlo points out, I think many of Obama's supporters are well-reasoned, and there are an equal number of 'blind followers' for Obama as there are for other candidates.
Carlo:  Anyone who supports Obama is a fool in the eyes of a majority of Clinton supporters. There's absolutely nothing wrong with any of us.

Hillary says were all delusional so of course her supporters believe it to be true.  Next Tuesday we'll see who's delusional.  LOL!
Did I hear somewhere that in Texas any voter can vote for any primary candidate no matter what their political party is? Is this true? If thats the case the repubs could sink Hillary once and for all.

misinformed?   p-town Co.
I agree with Carlo.

I didn't get my doctorate degree to be called stupid for supporting Obama by a bunch of people who can't spell, capitalize, or punctuate.

All the statistics show that Hillary Clinton has a disproportionate amount of support from those who are less educated.

That doesn't mean that those who are less educated don't deserve political representation that serves their needs, but if you want a leader who will not just cozy up with the local political establishment to give you handouts, but who will challenge you to rise to the level of your abilities, Barack Obama is the clear choice.
"I'm really tired of people getting on here assuming that everyone who supports Obama is an idiot. Have you not seen the exit polls? Obama has a commanding lead among educated people. " Get a clue! Intelligence is the biggest minority in this country and the supposed "commanding lead among educated people" "won't hunt", since anyone can buy just about any degree for any career they desire! LOL GO HILLARY!
I'm really worried that Obama won't be able to handle the mess left by President Bush.

I don't like Hillary, but I still think she'd do a better job with the economy and foreign policy.
The ad will be look at Kenya and  Muslim world go to street.
"Remember Hitler one the Popular Vote and the rest is Hitory lets not repeat this with Obama"

So, uh, is "Hitler one" the dude from WWII?  I didn't do so good in Hitory class.
Remember Hitler one the Popular Vote and the rest is Hitory lets not repeat this with Obama

^^^^

Seriously dude?  Do you have any idea what you're talking about?  First off, i think Hitler actually failed to get the majority of the German vote at any time in his career.  He was appointed to be the top man after winning a multi-party election for a lesser roll.

Furthermore, if you wanted to find a message that resembles the one Hitler had, Obama's would likely be about the furthest from it.  Unreal ignorance...
Ron, TX - "Can't wait to see it!  My gf and I cheer every time Obama comes on the TV!"

Good job, Pavlov. What do you do when someone rings a bell?

^^^

Ok, this made me laugh in real life.  Good post even if i do share Ron, TX's enthusiasm for Obama.

"--Now, I would really be impressed if you'd get a two-person wave going.  I, personally, perform the 'worm'."

Dude, don't know if you are supporting Obama or not, but that was darn funny! My latte (because all Obama supporters must drink lattes and drive a Prius according to the Clinton campaign) nearly came up through my nose! Kudos, sir! Kudos.
I had heard somewhere that the voters in the primaries in Texas can vote for any candidate no matter what they are registered as, could this be true? If thats the case the publicans could put an end to Hillarys chances by themselves.

misinformed?    p-town Co.
Israeli Newspaper says Obama pro israel---I hate the garbage they are throwing at Senator Obama.
I hope Obama asks Hillary to release her tax statements.what is she hiding?  what about her White House papers?
I just want Obama to answer why he goes to an all black church who supports and praises Farrakhan, the leader of Nation Islam, which hates jews and white people.
Come on anybody...............ASK HIM.

Listen to Obama's Pastor Reverend Wright on You Tube.
Read on his church's site  what Obama's church stands for.

Then tell me he is not a racist.

Also there has been a second picture of Obama found that shows him in Muslim clothes.
When Barack needs a little more money, he sends me an email and I give another $25.  When he's the nominee, I expect I'll up that to $50 each time.  Multiply me by a million, and we'll beat anybody!
One issue that has really been bothering me: NAFTA, you know the NORTH AMERICA Fair Trade Agreement!
If I read one more post from an Obama supporter that refers to "sending our jobs overseas" or tainted imports from China being caused by NAFTA I will give up on hope completely.
NAFTA only includes NORTH AMERICA! The USA, Canada and Mexico !!!  Obama ads imply that it is global.
Obviously not all Obama supporters have 140+ IQ's and some Hillary supporters are actually MENSA members.
good for him. his campaign has been frugal, and the grassroots are growing in their willingness to mobilize, as well as, put their little bit of money where their mouths are. they are responding to the signs of great leadership that they read on him. he, (we), will not be defeated by haters.

"Dee Dee Myers makes the most important point of all about Obama vs. Hillary: If a woman had the same amount of experience as Obama, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the primary race."

I would also point out that if the situation was reversed and Obama was down 11 straight primaries in a row he would have been forced to get out a long time ago. So quit whining about how everything is so unfair for Clinton. She mismanaged her campaign, plain and simple, and speaks volumes about her leadership abilities.

Settle (Sent Thursday, February 28, 2008 5:22 PM)

Well, there's an unbiased source for you.

If Hillary didn't have the last name of Clinton she wouldn't have been able to enter the primary race either.  Or are you naive enough to think her initial popularity in the polls was due to the massive accomplishments she piled up during the whole extra 4 years she's spent in the Senate?  You know, like authorizing the invasion of Iraq.  That's incredibly popular.

Do yourself a favor and don't include her time as First Lady in the experience equation.  If you do, we'll be forced to remember her experiences passing Universal Healthcare during that time.  Experiences she seemingly has learned nothing from either.

Obama overheard saying to one of his black campain workers before a big rally in Texas...

" Watch me make these white people scream. They swoon when I do my MLK speeches."

Don't you people get it yet?  He is making fun of you.

God help us, before it's too late.
Hey, I gave till it hurt to Obama campaign and I think my money is well spent.  Hillary started out with everybody knowing who she was.  Have you noticed that in every state all the polls show Hillary way ahead until Barack gets there and people get to know him and hear what he has to say and then it turns around?  I'm proud that my hard work has impacted my world.  Every voice counts!

I sense Barack Obama is displaying his campaign's ability to not only use public donations wisely but also display Obama's campaign as prepared to take on  attempts by President George "Pick-Pocket" Bush to extend another term through John McKLAN's-man.

Go Barack Obama, GO!

Remember Barack's meeting with John edwards earlier this month? What if Barack sat down with John and said this:

"Between you and me, John, this is what I want to do. I want to make 2 minute ad buys the Monday night before the Texas and Ohio primaries, and I want you to be in them with me, John."

That would be awesome, but I don't want to hype myself too much. If an Edwards endorsement ever does come, it would most probably be AFTER the Texas and Ohio primaries at this point. But if John wanted to stay relevant, he would do it before a big primary day, like the Monday before Ohio and Texas. Edwards is a great man and I want him to stay relevant. He could have a great career as Attorney General in an Obama Administration and we all know it. I'm convinced John has thought about this.
This incredible young voter (Derrick) starts out with just one issue (Healthcare) and then explains the whole Obama movement better than all the experts.
Please listen to both of these videos (first one first).

The high-hype candidate with his soft feminine brand and emotional rallies where people swoon/faint raises big bucks.  America is in meltdown!  This is obscene. :(

Texas and Ohio - don't vote for the cue-card kid.  He can't do the job, and many Dems will vote for McCain if Barack is the nominee.

Hillary the HOPE of 08 or McCain  :)
Obama is dangerously inexperienced and unprepared. He needs all the advertisement that money can buy.
I think people should settle down and look at the reality of what is happening. Carlo, you are not the only educated, above average IQ person voting. You're right that Obama has the votes of the more educated but that doesn't make it the right decision. They are looking at the election from a totally different viewpoint and can probably relate with him as he is closer to their age. But please, don't tell me that many of his votes are not coming from a pied piper effect and people are just following along without thinking. The pied piper had ulterior motives and I know Obama's messages are not altruistic. He is as ambitious as any politician. He hasn't voted enough to even get a real feel for his honest stand on issues. If you think that he will do all that he says then you're not using that education  you have. Anyone can promise and talk but they certainly can't make things happen. He will flounder around and our country will suffer greatly for it. Why he is in such a rush is rather curious. In 2004 he said he didn't have enough experience and that he would barely have a year in as senator if he were to run. Well, something changed. His friend and co-speech writer, who admitted they shared speeches won his bid for governor. Guess what, his term has been a failed one. His promises of bringing people together and getting things done has turned out to be "just words".
I will not put the fate of my country in the hands of someone who is untested and unknown. I will not go along with the other little mice and fall in line for his candidacy. I am amazed that people don't look at his rhetoric and see that it is impossible to do all that he says. I'm sorry, but Obama as president will be a disaster not because he isn't capable but because he is not ready. Give himself a few terms in the Senate to really see how things are done and build this coalition he talks about. Then, maybe, he could be a good president. Why he wants to rush into it is rather disconcerting and causes me to wonder why.
well its total Obama clean campaign. When a large ad is kept till last hour so no one can respond means it is prob filled with crap
I, for one, am happy that Obama has less "experience" than Hillary or McCain. Let's see what "experience did for Hillary's campaign. She had two successful campaigns prior to this one (her husband's) and most of his political friends. It was Obama's lack of experience that enabled him to break tradition, decide not to take money from lobbies and special interest groups (a huge step) and, low and behold. Who would have thought? He single-handedly proved that he could start a revolution! Do I want this "lack of experience" in the White House? You bet I do!
Just Curious,

..Pavlov observed after ringing the bell...thought it was common knowledge...
Please go and read the rediculous and hateful comments of the Obama supporters.  This is the type of "people" that he is able to drag out of their holes.  This is exactly why this life-long democrat WILL NOT vote for Obama under any circumstances. I will stay home and watch a movie.

Hillary and not other for this democrat.
Texas & Ohio, Please vote for Hillary. I just heard a dispicable thing.    Obama was overheard before a rally, (as he was getting ready to go on stage) telling one of his black campaign workers,  "Watch me make these white people scream; they swoon when I go into my Martin Luther King speeches.”

This is disgusting. I hope this man gets found out and soon.
A two minute ad would have a negative impact on me and I was planning to vote for Obama when I get the chance.  My conservative nature cringes at money spent on silly advertising.  He would be well advised not to saturate the airways so as not to deteriate his popularity.  Too much of a good thing is not to be trusted in my humble opinion.
I'm glad that Obama has the money to do that. Awfully well-managed campaign for someone with "no experience".

(PS - Chuck Todd, you have beautiful eyes, a great smile, and a great brain to boot. Lucky wife...)
WOW!

Hopefully for the sake of the Democratic party the Primary will be over on Wednesday.
What an inspiring story!

I just donated another $100 to the Obama campaign.  I can't wait until Americans have representation in Washington DC again!
Obama supporters please read what Hillary Clinton's presidency will bring:During the administration of   Bill Clinton, the U.S. enjoyed more peace and economic well being than at any time in it's history. He could point to the lowest unemployment rate in modern times, the lowest inflation in 30 years, the highest home ownership in the country's history, dropping crime rate in many places, and reduced welfare rolls. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades and achieved a budget surplus. Hillary was part of this administration and knows how to get the U.S to this level of economic wellbeing.

Does Patty SD stand for Patty Solis-Doyle? Hmmm?
Dee Dee Myers, playing the gender card. Billary plays the race card. And yet they claim all the experience. That is why they are losing and why Obama will win on Tuesday. They are stuck in 1960s-1970s thinking, and the country wants to move ahead with Obama.
Obama could fart on stage, and his nutty cult members would line up to smell it. You nut bags need to get a grip.
Unfortunately, with respect to all previous comments and opinions, I believe it will be "business as usual" no matter who becomes President.  Campaign promises will be ignored and not fulfilled which has  been the case in my six decades of experience.

They are politicians!  They will make any promise to win. We need more than "charisma" and being a "fighter" to mend the problems we face.  An honest candidate might help.  I know, ha! ha!

I'm completely tired and so over Obama's speeches and empty rhetoric. He lacks the basic experience to run this country and I'd rather vote for McCain than Barack O'Bama. Hillary Clinton is smart, dedicated and has the credentials, brain power and experience to help pull the American working poor out of the quagmire 8 years of GW Bush has put us in!! GO HILLARY!!
FROM SETTLE ON DEE DEE MYERS...
"...[she]makes the most important point of all about Obama vs. Hillary: If a woman had the same amount of experience as Obama, she wouldn't even have been able to enter the primary race."

Wrong, wrong, and just plain Clintonian triangulation to have us miss the point....which is competence, not race or gender.

If Obama was that "green woman" from Star Trek that gave Kirk a lapdance, AND....

He had somehow gotten himself elected by his peers as the first green female President of the Harvard Law Review,..

Then got elected representing the Democratic Party as the first green female Senator from Illinois since....uh no one....

Then just had the audacity of hope to aspire to be President with her "green" self...

and proceeded to go out and collect all the requisite signatures with the appropriate filings in advance of all the deadlines....

....and last but not least, if this green woman somehow got over 1 million humans of different colors to give her over $150 million dollars to pay all the filing fees in each state and other expenses associated with running for President of the United States....

then yes, even the "green woman" from Star Trek, with no more experience that Senator Obama, could have entered this contest for the Presidency and been doing as well as Senator Obama.

But of course there is no such competent woman running this year, is there? We only have the overconfident, arrogant, wasteful Clinton machine which sought to intimidate everyone else from the race. And the actual woman candidate propped up by this ineffectual machine is only now showing us how green she can really be....green with envy.
yes,it will only copies of Hillary's agenda with added-on critics again !!!. He labels himself as change agent but nobody sees his any initiative, just an empty crying like an empty can is always making a big noise. His flowery speeches would give Republican another term. I cannot trust a man who denies   his full name, and sensitive with his parent apperel.  How you trust a guy denying his ancestor's custom not betraying our country as words came directly from his wife that she's never pround of this country till now!!! They really are agent of damage instead of change. Let say his popular votes a milion more than other candidate, but ask ourself how many millions of Independent and Republican voted for him now will vote against him in general election, far more than that even Democrats wll vote for Mc Cain if  he is the nominee, oh ho!!!
And the Obama infection keeps growing. Time to brush the dust off of my 'In case of Zombies' box...

Just Curious (Sent Thursday, February 28, 2008 5:37 PM)

Well considering that people don't ring bells all that often, if I hear someone ringing a bell, it was probably on the shelf at a department store.  So I reckon I'd just walk right by?
The radio and TV already have too many Obama ads. I really tired of hearing the same stuff over and over again. They have really overwhelmed the market in TX with these ridiculous ads.  In researching candidates today, I did find one video that was neat. If you liked Ann Richards, then you would like the one video done for Ann.  hillaryclinton.com/feature/oneofamillion/?sc=2359
