McCain's 'liberal' slip

Posted: Thursday, February 28, 2008 6:26 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Lindsey Pritzlaff and Lauren Appelbaum
While McCain was elaborating on the "stark differences" between his Democratic opponents' positions and his own, he slipped up.

"I'm a proud conservative liberal republic -- conservative Republican," he said.

After joining with the Richardson, Texas, crowd in hearty laughter, McCain went on to say what he initially meant.

"Hello, easy there," he said. "Let me say this. I am a proud conservative Republican and both of my possible or likely opponents are liberal Democrats."

DOTTERING OLD FOOL....
Howdo!
I'm from England and have been (like most of us Limeys!) following your elections with avid interest.  What I envy about it is this, at least you have an election to decide your leader, we didn't! Gordon Brown just took over Blair and he has continued to screw the country over just like his predecessor and former boss.
May the best man (or woman!) win over there.  Suffice to say that although you may feel you have it bad right now, with health care, education, possible recession etc, you Americans have it easy compared to us over here since Blair and Brown took over! We have now the highest taxes in Europe, soaring crime, filthy hospitals, crumbling schools mass illegal immigration and a corruption filled Parliament that beggars belief. Whoever does lose, McCain, Obama or Clinton, can they please come over and move into 10 Downing Street instead.  Even Bush will do!  Good luck to all.
This is hardly news.  If you have been watching McCain closely for the past few years, there is an obvious pattern of increasing senility.  It may not yet have manifested the all the symptoms of full blown Alzheimers, but its clear that even before he might take office, McCain's brain is showing signs of heavy brain cell loss and cognitive impairment.

One really has to question whether the Lord intended such an old man to be president.  Perhaps its just a clever trick to install a Bush and Company approved VP, without the vetting process.  Perhaps not, but it is clear that it is OLD AGE!
i am a 70 yr. old woman who can truely look back in times and recall in all the presidential elections has there ever been anyone to tell the american people that this is your country and you have the right to say yes or no to the people you have elected and keep the process going everyday by letting your elected representative know what you want. only jfk came close to saying "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". yet over the years all i've heard "vote for me". and when i do vote, its back to the same old grind, business as usual. but for the first time in my life i am hearing what the preamble of the constitution is saying. "we the people". now we have a choice to make a difference in this election by voting for one of the canidates to take us forward into the following years. i for one, will be voting for obama, because he is saying WE THE PEOPLE and WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGHOUT THE YEARS BY LETTING OUR REPRESENTATIVES KNOW WE WILL BE WATCHING THEM AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE WANT.
Hurry quick, they'll find out mccain residence is at the local assisted living apartments!
Ah, a good news day with all the news that is unfit to print.
One slip up and the election gains a defining moment, this is now called 'good journalism', HAH!
It's an old-age slip. Do we really want an old guy like this to eventually say, "ready...fire, I mean aim. Ooops, too late!"
As an independent voter I am glad that McCain is going to win the Republican nomination. It certainly is a better choice than, Huckabee (Gomer Pyle), Guiliani( a comedic fellow), Thompson ( whose acting ability is far better than his boring ignorant style). McCain is the best of the worst in the Republican party. His Iraq stance is one of the worst foreign policy failures of all time. He should stop pandering to the extreme conservatives and be his own man. Obama's view's are refreshing, but can be troublesome in the future. However, we will be doomed econmically if we continue this McCain Iraq policy. Trillions of dollars and an unwinnable war is not in the best interst for the American people. Hillary must not be the nominee. She is exactly like McCain with the exception of Pro-choice Unfortunately we need to vote for Obama. Not the status quo.
I hear you Darrell, San Marcos, Cali., & I agree.
What a thought!  Remember when Reagan thought the Secretary of Defence,Colin Powell was a governor? A physlological test should have been ordered for this McCain guy before entering the ring. You talking madman behind the wheel & lobbists still in charge. I am tired of the same old story. I ready to vote a change!
OBAMA 08

Modern Liberalism/Progressivism may be moving forward, but since they lack ideals, where are they going? With no ideals there is no goal to work towards, therefore no real direction. Moving forward, but we don't know where. That makes me feel safe. If they do have ideals, then I'm scared of the direction in which we're moving. Socialism! Yes We Can!
Old Liberals just stupid away. Good bye John
Yet where were Democrats when the chairman of their own House Intelligence Committee[Rep. Sylvestre Reyes],could not tell the differance between a ''Shia''and a ''Sunni''? Alzheimers? I doubt it. Where were they when  Democrat Sen. Byrd stated on national television, ''thats right. White niggers. Thats what they are''.[yet no Democrat and no liberal around these parts comments on the fact that this man really IS too aged to continue to serve lucidly yet chairs the Senates powerful Appropriations Committee at the age of 91]. Ted Kennedy is older than McCain. No-ones asking him to step down from his powerful chairmanships either, and no-one is calling him out on any percieved ''senility''. John Conyers, Judiciary Chairman is older than McCain[much older]. No-ones telling him to get lost either. Yet these House and Senate chairmanships, comprise the very domestic and foreign policy power of the United States held by the nations Legislative Branch. And the reins of these are held by men far older than McCain.
With respect to healthcare, you should not fear Socialism.  A truly socialistic approach would mean universal healthcare for every U.S. citizen with no restrictions and no costs.  Neither Senator Clinton nor Senator Obama are advocating a socialistic approach to health care.  However, their approach, advocating more accessible healthcare is far preferrable to the Republican-backed status quo of free market capitalism and stockholder profits-driven HMOs.  John McCain supports GW Bush, and GW Bush supports whatever puts more profits in the pockets of HMO stockholders.  Their (McCain and Bush) plan has absolutely nothing to do with delivering health care to people; it's all about the money.  And not just on this issue alone, John McCain is NOT a liberal.  The zealots in his party are, however, trying to push him more and more to the right.  As November draws closer, they are likely to succeed.  McCain will sucuumb if for no more reason than advancing senility.  The Republican campaign will become more and more shrill and will resort to any anti-woman or anti-brown (the man is not black, he is brown) divisive and evil attack they can conjure.

Help to save us all, with no one left behind.  Vote Democrat in November.
