The AP: “More than doubling her January fund-raising total, Hillary Clinton raised $35 million in February, her biggest month yet, her advisers said. But Barack Obama's campaign said it will surpass that figure, with some reports that it could exceed $50 million. Clinton has been struggling to recover from weak fund-raising in January, when she had to loan her campaign $5 million. She raised $14 million in January to Obama's $36 million.”

The New York Post: “[S]everal Democratic sources said Obama was on target for a $50 million February. One source said Obama will have raised ‘between 50 million and 60 million this month.’”

The Washington Post notes the really scary fact for the Republicans about Clinton and Obama raising more than a combined $80 million in month. It is unprecedented territory.

Read the report about the Texas republicans who are tactically voting for BO but will vote Republican in November.  This supports the theory why he was doing so well in red states, with open contests.  It also does not bode well for his chances in November as he will not be the choice of the majority of Democrats!

Vote for the Democrats choice for nominee!
With Clinton's announcement yesterday, at least we shouldn't have to hear idiotic claims that "Obama is the big money candidate" when he announces his number tomorrow.  It appears that Obama will trounce her number again but unlike Senator Clinton, who has taken close to $100 million from lobbyists, Senator Obama's campaign has been built by, at the last count, over 1,000,000 Americans who want to see a different type of politics and who reject the fear-mongering that both Bush and Clinton have become so adept at.
Lots of Chinese and Eastern Europeans donating to the Dems this year. They know what side their bread is buttered on.
Alan, NJ,
I was wondering how long it would take for people to start making excuses for Senator Clinton's next loss.  Turns out, not too long.  There's always some reason, right?

Did any of you people ever play sports as a kid and learn how to lose graciously?
Cult Obama campaign is boasting they got buckets and buckets of cash from their cult money machine.  They say they have more buckets of cash than Hillary Clinton's campaign.

So the challenge is for Hillary's rational supporters to go to her website now and support her to match the support of the Obama cult.

Hillary Clinton is about the future of America; she is the qualified, experienced, visionary leader America needs to make change real and restore America to prosperous times and restore our good standing in the world.

The political system is totally corrupt with all of this money sloshing around...even the so called 'liitle people' contributing to obama are a special interest out to pick our pockets once their guy wins...yech
Crat3,
You Clinton hacks are so hilarious.  It's you who has no clue.  People are supporting Obama for a reason.  You have blindly bought Senator Clinton's line about having "experience creating change" and "being ready to lead on Day 1" despite the fact that

1) she's accomplished very little in her career (a few nice accomplishments, yes, but certainly not a list worthy of 35 years)
2) she can't even run a campaign properly

Your lines about the Obama cult are as stale as the rationale for your candidate.

Rick, NC (Sent Friday, February 29, 2008 9:42 AM)

Aren't the "little people" the special interest that government was created for?

Thank you for making Obama's point for him.
I have donated small amounts repeatedly to Obama's campaign and I can assure you, I have neither the intention nor the power to "pick anyone's pocket." I do, however, have the power to think for myself, research for myself, and read for myself. I am neither delusional nor a member of a cult.
Let's remind everybody that Clinton was also $10 million in debt after January...

For someone with "sooo muuuuch" experience with economic matters, she sure is bad with money.
As an Obama supporter, I would like to extend my apologies to all of the Clinton supporters who have been belittled or insulted on this blog by supporters of my candidate.  This kind of vitriol has been flying from both sides and I sincerely hope that we can all take a deep breath and start thinking about what is really important in this election.

The truth is, this choice we are all making between Clinton and Obama is a pretty good problem to have if you’re a democrat who is fed up with the past seven years of our government.  I believe we have two very strong candidates who care about average working people and who want to reverse the terrifying trends we’ve all been seeing in American politics.

I’ve researched the positions of both candidates on most issues and, in all honesty, the policy platforms of both are about 95% the same.  So if you believe that the vision that Hillary Clinton has for our country reflects your values and priorities as a human being, as it does mine, then you should feel the same about Barack Obama and vice versa.  Both of these people are deeply committed to ending our disastrous war in Iraq, to addressing the health care crisis that is crippling our country, to changing our frightening approach to international trade that undermines our sovereignty and pushes the whole world into a global race to the bottom, to protecting social security from right-wing attempts at privatization, to creating an immigration policy that is just and sensible and not based in fear, in limiting the overwhelming power of huge corporations and other special interests that dictate far too many aspects of our lives in America.  I could go on but you get the point.  This is why I am so alarmed when I hear repeated threats by supporters on both sides to vote for McCain if their candidate is not successful.  Trust me, if you are interested in the kind of reform either Clinton or Obama represent, McCain is not your man.  The difference between a McCain presidency and a Clinton or Obama presidency is almost unimaginable.  Let’s all take a deep breath and put this vision we share for our country at the top of the priority list where it belongs.  I prefer Obama, but I will pledge to enthusiastically support Clinton if she gets the nomination.  I hope the rest of you on both sides will join me in preventing the self-destruction that has too often characterized the Democratic Party.

As I see it, considering that these two honorable democratic candidates have such similar visions for where to take our country, the choice between the two comes down to the process by which each will pursue the vision we have for America.  Hillary Clinton has been surrounded by high-stakes, challenging presidential politics.  She knows the ropes, has the connections, realizes how to flex some muscle to defeat our opponents and fight for changes.  Barack Obama offers the possibility that we might not have to always flex our muscle and beat down our opponents to achieve what we want.  I think he would approach problems from a position of finding common ground to build upon and including more people in the decision-making process so that more than just our allies have a stake in the success of our battles.  There is an argument to be made for both approaches.  Clinton’s aggressive and persuasive tactics could, if applied correctly, force a lot of change relatively quickly and be a major success or it could polarize the two sides and create gridlock.  Obama’s approach could create a more productive atmosphere in our government and result in us seeing politicians put aside their point-scoring, win-at-all-costs, ego-driven methods and work together for the first time I could remember, or partisans could continue on as they always have and derail his efforts at reconciliation.  I choose Obama’s approach because it appeals to the optimist in me and reaffirms my underlying feeling that people are basically good and will help each other if the circumstances don’t prevent it.  I could be wrong or I could be right.  I hope I’m right.

I don’t begrudge Hillary supporters their devotion to their candidate.  She is worthy of some devotion given the positive changes she has fought for, as is Barack.  They are both good people and devoted public servants.  I just hope we can all think carefully about what is really important in this election and imagine the divergent roads that our country could travel depending on whether McCain or either of the Democrats is at the helm.  No matter what happens in the rest of this primary season, let’s keep that in mind come November.
Finally, imagine that you found out that Clinton's chief strategist was not only her campaign's leading advocate for these attacks -- but was also the CEO of a public affairs firm whose DC-based lobbying subsidiary was headed up by John McCain's top adviser.

That is crazy, oh what a tangled web we weave!!
Why is the Media refusing to research this story?

Yesterday, the American Media followed the Obama campaign’s lead and reported that the Canadian TV story (by Lloyd Robertson), which indicated that a senior figure from Barack Obama campaign had contacted the Canadian Embassy to inform them that their candidate’s talk about ‘renegotiating’ NAFTA was “just rhetoric”, had simply been “untrue”. They used as evidence that the Canadian Embassy’s spokesperson, Tristan Landry, had denied the whole thing to the American Press along with Barack’s Obama denial. And, in a highly questionable move, the American press decided to abandon the story without a proper investigation into the whole matter, and have even allowed some of their pundits to refer to the story as a “lie” and/or fabrication. Today CTV has gone even further to sustain their journalistic integrity and has named the “senior figure” from the Obama campaign who had made the call to the Canadian government: Obama’s Senior Economic Adviser Austan Goolsbee. CTV has also confirmed from additional high-officials in the Canadian Embassy that although Obama has stated that, “the Canadian government put out a statement saying that this was just not true, so I don’t know who the sources were,” said call did take place and that it’s purpose was quite clear. Curiously, when CTV contacted Mr. Goolsbee for comments, he informed them that the Obama campaign had instructed him to redirect questions their way.

Ron from TX has it right.  Beyond the heart-felt issues like the war, America is facing some serious economic challenges caused by our debt-spending mentality.  What makes people think Hillary can do the job if she can't even balance her own check book?  I know Bill is known for balancing the budget, but there was a cost.  He cut military spending well below acceptable limits.  The budget is a balancing act, and I don't see a deficit spender like Hillary fixing our woes.
Why won't Hillary release her tax returns?  We can safely assume that something(s) is in there that could be used against her; like huge payments from meetings that the Clintons deny occurred, until photographs inconveniently surface.  Here's her strategy.  If released now, it would be Democrats criticizing her.  If released after she wins the nomination (IF IF IF), it would be Republicans criticizing her and she could, once again, cry that "the vast right wing conspiracy" is still after Bill and her.  It's very cold and calculated; just like a Clinton.
To Unity Monger...In a perfect world you'd be right on the money!  However, circumstances are far different.  Hillary Supporters have been forced to watch their candidates "back" for months now...Obama supporters have repeatedly attacked her, belittled her and insulted her on every blog they could get to!! Even on her own website, they trolled and trolled to disrupt her supporters in their quest to raise money for their candidate. That coupled with the extreme media bias has led to them being forced into a corner.

I think you misunderstand one key issue...they truly believe that Obama does not have the experience to be President of the United States, that he's a rookie, for wont of a better word.  In their eyes the stakes are far too high, the world today is too  fragile...the economy is slipping into a recession, the Iraq war needs to be addressed..you know the issues.

I applaud you for recognizing what's been happening to Clinton supporters...and appreciate the sincerity of your message, but I think the damage is done!  I only wish more Obama supporters had realized earlier what they were doing...it has never been necessary for people in the same Party to resort to these sort of tactics.
The 'stop Hillary' faction of the neocon party will not play into the general election as much as it may seem.  A strong 'stop McCain' contingent remains from the 'manchurian candidate's' last attempt at presidential assention.  Hillary keep the kleen ex close for McBush the press won't be kind to him either.  This man leaves a dirt trail about a mile wide.  Obama's got the money, the crowds, the message.  McCain has that infamous Bush embrace...No brainer there folks.  McCain will suffer a bigger drubbing than Kerry if the neocon's can't pull a rabbit out on Obama.
Unity Monger: Thank you. If folks are wondering why Obama is getting so much support they need only read your post. No more scorched earth politics, foreign policy, or economic policy. Life is NOT a zero sum game. Everyone can win. I want a better world for my 4 (soon to be 5) grandchilderen.
Hillary has raised $35 million, but I wonder how much cash she really has.  She was already in debt from January and obviously has been spending money in February.  I suspect much of the $35 million is already gone.

Also, I've noticed the absence of the person who regularly commented on First Read advancing the debunked Obama rumors.  I'd like to think that MSNBC has made the decision not to allow those types of comments to see the light of day on their site.

"the really scary fact for the Republicans about Clinton and Obama raising more than a combined $80 million in month"

The Republicans must have really ticked off a lot of people.
Hillary is such a superior candidate in every way and that's why we support her so enthusiastically. Hillary's experience, leadership, lifetime of public service, intelligence, detailed grasp of domestic and international issues are second to none. Her qualificiations are unmatched. She will make a GREAT President!

If Hillary is not the nominee, we will vote for McCain. Obama is just too risky, he's is unqualified to be President.

We are Ohio voters and so excited to vote for her next Tuesday! Ohio LOVES Hillary, Hillary can beat McCain in Ohio and the other big states that are must wins for the Dems in November, Obama cannot. He is unelectable. If you can't win Ohio, you can't win the Presidency.

V O T E  S M A R T   !    V O T E     H I L L A R Y  !
THE REALITY CHECK..........
OBAMA GOT LESS THAN 10% OF THE REGISTER VOTERS IN EACH PRIMARY,HE WON.
WHAT ABOUT THE 90%  PLUS.
MY CONCLUSION IS:
IN THE GENERAL ELECTION BOTH THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES WILL LOSE TO REPUBLICANS.[AMERICANS GENERAL WILL NOT VOTE FOR A WOMAN OR AFRICAN-AMERICAN.
LONG HISTORY...
THE PRIMARIES ARE A BIG JOKE,BECAUSE THE ACTIVISTS CONTROL THE AGENDA...NOT THE 100% OF THE REGISTER VOTERS.
I'M AN INDEPENDENT VOTER AND I VOTED FOR BOTH PARTIES BEFORE.THIS TIME THE SELECTION OF THE CANDIDATES TURN ME OFF.
I think this is so funny that them Obama supporters think the Republican are voting for him in the primary that they are jumping on his circus wagon. If he gets the nominee lets see how many vote for him and also, he only wins in open primaries where the Rep. can vote, You Obama fans are so funny. I support Hillary and will never vote for Obama and haven't met anyone that is going to vote for him. I live in Fl. so remember FL. FL. FL.
Let them call us a cult....I happily passed out and drank my Kool-aid at the Fort Worth Rally last night!!  I want to see an endorsement for Koolaid...let all the others know you can say whatever you like...we are onboard and arent getting off just because you try to put us down!!
Unity Monger:  Absolutely, completely, perfectly said!! I agree.  Thank for stating what I also believe so eloquently.
Pam....last night, he used the term Hope-monger!!  I thought it was great!!
The supporters of Senator Obama are being mislead.  You need to do the research, not just allowed yourself to be swayed by the rhetoric.

His stated position of violating national sovereignty in Pakistan to hunt down "terrorists" bears such striking ideological resemblance to the Bush doctrine that Bush, in fact, actually implemented that very strategy in January by sending drones into Pakistani territory to bomb "terrorists."

Or how about his 2004 interview with the Chicago Tribune, in which he threatened "missile strikes" on Iran if they pursue nuclear technology?

Or his 2007 speech to the American Israeli Political Action Committee (AIPAC) threatening "military action" against Iran to ensure Israeli security?

Or how about The Nation's recent article outlining Obama's plan to continue the use of contracted Blackwater mercenaries in Iraq and other global theatres if need be?  The same Blackwater mercenaries that have killed dozens of civilians in Iraq.

How about Obama voting to renew the Patriot Act? (Something Hillary Clinton didn't do.)

How about Obama voting to confirm Condoleeza Rice, one of the architects of the Iraq war, as Secretary of State?

And that's just foreign policy... How about economics?

CTV has reported that a top Obama campaign staffer told the Canadian government prior to Tuesday's Ohio debate that Obama would strike harsh anti-NAFTA rhetoric, but that they shouldn't be worried as it was just campaign rhetoric and not serious. (YouTube search: CTV, NAFTA, Obama)

Obama has also campaigned heavily against corporate lobbyists, yet has prominent Washington lobbyists for companies such as Pfizer (big pharma), Monsanto (big chem), Constellation Energy (nuclear) and the Carlyle Group (private equity firm that linked Bush to bin-Laden)...  GOOGLE: Moses Mercado Obama, Exelon Obama

Obama likes to tout his campaign donations from small contributors, but never mentions the professionally bundled donations from corporations such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citigroup, Exelon, Time Warner (See: opensecrets.org for campaign contributions)

Or how about Obama's connections to Wall Street corporate interest groups like the Hamilton Project and Democratic Leadership Council?  Google it.

How much "change" can you expect from a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, who is in bed with energy companies, corporate interests and the military industrial complex?

If the corporate-sponsored media (Exelon is a major advertizer for MSNBC, and also a top 10 donor to the Obama campaign) is endorsing a candidate, how much "change" can you expect from him?
