Super delegate update

Posted: Friday, February 29, 2008 12:03 PM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under:

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Obama picked up three new super delegates today, bringing our Super Delegate tracking total to Clinton 254, Obama 207. Notably, this puts Obama over 1,400 total delegates (Obama 1,401, Clinton 1,291) -- combining supers with the NBC News Hard Count, which stands at Obama 1,194, Clinton 1,037. Obama has picked up 37 superdelegates since Super Tuesday; Clinton has lost a net of six.

NOTE: The Obama campaign sent out a release showing four superdelegate pick ups, but one of those was already on a list provided to us by the campaign prior to Feb. 5, which is why we add in only three as new.

*** UPDATE *** For those wondering who the four are who have publicly said they have committed to Obama, they are Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez, Minnesota DFL Associate Chair Donna Cassutt, North Dakota DNC Member Renee Pfenning and Texas State Rep. Yvonne Davis. Pfenning was previously on our list; her endorsement at that point may have been private.

At my polls you aren't allowed to have signs or any thing to try to influence a vote within 500 ft. I noticed in Hawaii all the poll workers had on Obama stickers. We must look the other way when it comes to him. The media are fighting his battles covering his behind when he steps in shit. The GOP are voting for him now and for McCain in Nov. And the working people will have another 4 years of the same old, same old. Thanks for nothing Barry. Still counting on Hillary for my hopes and dreams.
Hey whats going own with this lawsuit that the clinton camp is trying to file in Texas?
Your right Patty, SD. The Giants beat the odds and won the Super Bowl. Just like Obama is going to win the election. Before the year even started everyone had Clinton winning the nomination. But once the game started Obama was able to step up and take it. Just like the Giants did. Stop Whinning like your girl Hillary and Face it.Its over for her.

OBAMA 08
Obama supporters and the media will pay because if that illusionist will win the nomination many hard staunch democratic voters will cross over to McCain .  And when that happens McCain will be president for sure.
Patty, can you please stop rambling as if you lost your mind? I do not understand your points other than to say that you are zealous and a moron. Better join other blogs and rant up a storm over there. Frankly, I don't want you to fill up MSNBC with nonsense, hateful posts, you little brat.

Stay and play patty, he ain't nobody's daddy!
Oh Patty Ronney is so angry at you.

He is no daddy.

May be 12 0r 13 years old. He can not control his angry voice!  Hey troll ronney you get off we do not need you here either.
Througout history great movements have been led by inexperience young people. DR. King was chosen over the experience E.D.Nixon to lead the boycott. Ghandi was in his twenties when he became a leader for Indian. Now it is Obama.
HEAR GOES OUR SENATOR HILLARY AGAIN!!!, They are planning to sue the Texas Democratic Party. Every time her campaign senses trouble, they try to subvert the process by threatening a law suit. This is desperate, unsportsmanlike and shameful. ALL the good and law abiding people of Texas must let Hillary know that she cannot sabotage the will of the people.
David, Bethesda, MD
You have found Obama’s Achilles heel. If he is ever flaunted as the black candidate , then he will not be electable. No one wants a candidate that is taunted as the white candidate or one that has been promoted as the black candidate. We need a candidate for all people.
Obama doesn't have clue the Republicans have just begun their attack.  He had had nothing but a smooth ride from attacks so far.  He has no clue nor does his campaign know it all's.
Their is no excuse, for experience, without it you will go nowhere...no matter what you think..
C A, Tuscaloosa, AL (Sent Friday, February 29, 2008 12:26 PM)

Hi C A!  I hope you are right.  If Senator Clinton is smart (and I know she is), she'll concede.  But, there is that stubborn streak in her that makes me think that she may just hang on and be the same little bothersome gnat that Huckabee is to McCain.  I'd like her people use all that p1$$ and vinegar productively and go after McCain.
Hey so did you hear that the Canadian goverment is throwing Obama under the bus.

He is SOOOO busted.

Obama is going down.
Voters will decide Delagates will nominate.
My question is about Mr Obama and NAFTA;
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080228/turkey_Gates_080228/20080229?hub=TopStories
Patty,The canadian goverment alleged the same thing about Hillary's campaign too!!  I can't beleive the people out there who have this ill will against Obama.  I don't support Senator Clinton, but I really don't have any ill will towards her. Let's be honest, there are PLENTY of reasons NOT to like Hillary CLinton..
Understand this, black superdelagates are receiving scrutiny and pressure to support Obama from there constituent!  These superdelegates were chosen because of their commitment the party, and democracy in general.  Surely they can vote for who they like, but to critize citizens for being active and questioning there leaders in unpatriotic!

If the elected officials and party leaders in your city or state are governing without regard to the will of the people, then I suggest you too move to have them replaced - that is all that is happening hear.
Camp Hill is so desperate. When does The DNC and all the big super deledate step in to eutanize her??
this has become a joke.
texas has its rules Hill. You cant change the rules. She always wants to change the rules. She doesnt like the Fla and Michigan rules now because she is losing, she didint like the questions in last debate and now she is whining again.
Thats what we need in the White House. A whinny bitch
Boys and girls, Obama is going down.

Patty,sd,ca (Sent Friday, February 29, 2008 12:52 PM)

Yes Patty, he is going down Pennsylvania Avenue, entering the White House grounds and then into the Oval office as this country begins to shake of the shame of the past eight years of ineptitude, repairs our broken reputation in the world, and enters a period of by-partisan progress mandated by a record landslide election. His first term will become known as the first Presidency of the new century after the hangover Bush debacle. Even a Nation has to hit bottom and wallow senseless in the gutter before it can pick itself up clean itself off and become respectable again.

Obama '08
angel, spring texas,

don't believe everything you hear. that was started by someone within the clinton campaign. then a number of other surrogates, including politicians started saying it.

with john lewis his district was on his case, not the obama campaign. also, both campaigns have been lobbying for the superdelegates. let's not be blind in one eye. we should try to stay fair in our assesments.

it is so easy to say something is wrong when one of our candidates isn't winning. I am so tired of everyone trying to paint a racial or feminist picture of the election.

The clinton's applied a lot of pressure on superdelegates when they thought hillary was inevitable.

as a politician wins that tide began to turn. the superdelegates began to look at what would happen to them politically in november if they didn't represent their constituency. they are moving because come the fall if they have represented in contrast of the voters they represent, those same voters may vote them out. thus, losing their jobs.

that is true with superdelegates of all races and gender.

some will take that chance some won't. don't eat sour grapes out of disappointing effects upon your candidate and make everything seem as though it is a conspiracy.

in the course of the primary people will move to obama, leave obama, move to hillary or leave hillary. bottom line is they will likely move to the wishes of the voters in their districts and who is winning.

please, keep it real. the truth hurts, but it will set you free.

go obama.
Yah, you better vote for Hillary if you want to beat the republicans. as far as Ted Kennedy there has to be something in it for him
I'm not sure whether this Farrakhan thing is just bad luck for Obama. Note that he didn't seem to want to reject his support until Hillary pushed him (which was stupid of her....never interfere when your opponent is committing suicide). And another thing. Don't I remember from one of Obama's books that he talked about how much he admires Malcolm X? In fact, if you look at old footage of Malcolm X you'll notice that sometimes it looks like Obama is trying to imitate him: the cadence, the hand gestures, etc. Malcolm X was one of the top people in the Nation of Islam back in the day. Is this Farrakhan thing so out of the blue?
The Clinton campaign has been trying to get these super delegates to hold off Endorsing Barack until after March 4th.Clinton's Super delegate advantage has continuously gone downhill since Super Tuesday. They're argument for being able to stay in this race is Dependent upon Super Delegates Not Endorsing either one of them ( Hillary or Barack).

Chris Dodd was just the tip of the Iceberg folk's.Watch for more to come out between Now & march 4th.The writing is on the wall for Hillary, she just Refuses to Reject or Denounce it.

The Democratic party will be United this November against the GOP. Make No Delusion's of it being, any other way.

Barack Obama for President!!!!!
REPEAT AFTER ME regurgitators of false rhetoric........PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.
John Doe:

That story about Obama calling a representative in Canada about Nafta has already been reported as being fales. Not just by the Obama camp but by the Canadian representaiuve and Canada you dope. You are truly a moron.

Whorchester Girl:

The Dem party is not goping to let this go to the convention. Nor will Hillary. They and she knows letting it go to the convention will tear the Dem party apart. Hillary will bow out, and most likely gracefully after she breaks even or loses to Obama in Texas and Ohio. She sees the latest polls in PA have Obama closing in on her there as well.
Come on John Doe, you have'nt figured it out yet? weather your Blk,White,Brn,Dem,Rep,male, female Christian,Jewish or Muslims. Those kind of comments and politics are exactly the reason people all over America are fed up with the same old tired politics. Obama 08
All eyes now turn to next Tuesdays vote
For someone it will strike a sour note

Hillary seems to be on the precipice
No entry into the big White edifice

Mr Obama can practically sew up the nomination
Provided he carries the vote in College Station

As voters dollars fill the candidates coffers
We're left to wonder about the best offers

Much has been made of lobbyists and friends
Could they be seen as disturbing trends

Now come the Superdelegates to the fore
Switching support like in days of yore

Who knows which way they'll cast their lot
One vote each is all they've got

To the voters of Texas, Vermont, Rhode Island & Ohio
Research the candidates views and their bio

Be honored to be casting your votes next week
For one campaign the results could be bleak

We are all Americans with something to say
Just wish I didn't have so many bills to pay

For everyone that has voted across this great land
I stand humbled before you and give you a hand

Center for Responsive Politics has discovered that the candidate who gets their support tends to be the one who gave them the most money:
Total Clinton contributions to all superdelegates: $236,080
Total Obama contributions to all superdelegates: $710,926

Question: If Obama’s such a wondrous, moving, obvious choice, and all these superdelegates are defecting in swarms to him out of sheer enthrallment, is it simply nothing more than mere coincidence that Obama has “donated” MORE THAN 3 TIMES the money to said same superdelegates than Hillary Clinton (and having said that and paid that, still has received less than half of the committments from same superdelegates)?
Is it also only coincidence that many of the same superdelegates who just happen to be African American are now complaining of coercive tactics from - not the Clinton camp - but from the Obama people, using everything from threats to charges of being “Uncle Toms”?
Patty, I am sorry to tell you that this contest for President of the United States does not compare to a football game (Superbowl). The polls show the score and the score is in favor of Obama, not Hillary. The only way Hillary could win, is for her to cheat and try to steal it from Obama by trying change the rules of the game that have already been established.  Again, don't mix footbal and politics together, its like apples and oranges, they are different.

Oh yeah!!!! The polls. Remember NH. :)
mad in madtwon:

Good to see you! Yes, I do think she will concede gracefully if she does not win both Texas and Ohio. I might think otherwsie if she saw she were leading heavily in upcoming primaries that follow whic she is not or tha ther lead in PA of double digits was going t ohold which the latest polls shows it is not. And, I think she will do all she can to help Obama kick McCains rear in the fall. An Obama general election campaign supported by Hillary would be unstoppable. And even more so if he is smart in his VP selection.
Obama campaign calls Canada and assures them, his comments on Nafta just campaign talk.

Obama, just another lying politician

Obama, Politics as usual

Obama:  All black racist church,  Rezco slum lord deals and contributions,  Ayrers the terrorist who bombed the pentegon,  Farrakhan leader of Nation of Islam who hates all Jews and whites.  Racist pastor Wright.

It's Feb 29, 2008 and still no answers.......
I believe for the first time in my political history a person has stepped up to the fore front to lead the people of America, not special interest groups, Races;Gender; party affiliation; but to lead and work with the people about what is important to them in their lives. It doesn,t take a rocket scientist to do this, it takes someone with understanding and passion and simply love for the their country and the people who makes up the country. We need to stop the bickering; name calling; and putting evil thoughts in people minds snd accept he is the one for us all at this time. We need each other to move in the right directions and rise above all these horrible issues that we face. GIVE HOPE AND CHANGE A CHANCE.
WOW... Clintons Keep Spinnin and Spinnin I'm Getting Dizzy.
"Obama is so full ot it. Release the whole list not just portions." -- Patty, sd,ca

Are you saying Obama has won a lot more of Clinton superdelegates and is keeping it secret? Sorry if I misunderstand but I've never dealt with disturbed people before.
C A, I agree with you.  I am dying to know who Senator Obama will choose as his running mate.  Any guesses from you?
"One of Clinton's laws of politics is this: If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope." -- Bill Clinton, 2004"

Great Quote. Go Obama.

you are part of the Obama camp aren't you?
It's not over until it's over. Hillary still has a shot. She's the most qualified. People need to stop being so hateful-to Obama, Hillary and McCain. They all deserve our respect for their hard work and accomplishments. Whoever WINS, we are one country-not three. That goes for Nader too. Read their Wikipedia pages if you want inspiration and hope-all 4 of them are vastly qualified.
"Isn't this fun. I can't wait until Tuesday. Its like wating for the superbowl." -- Patty,sd,ca

I'll bring a big bowl of popcorn, you can bring the nuts and dips.
Why would any sensable person who cares about this country have any faith in any person that resembles George Bush.  Many call Obama Supporter Obamafied, he offers HOPE that America can be the Great Super Power it once was.  For all the republicans that are voting for Mr. Obama in the primaries and plan to vote for McCain in the General Election continue to help us fight for Hope.  We will win in the end.  I can't believe our country would rather shoot itself in the heart than to have a candidate of Hope lead us back to the place  The USA should be.  Mr. Obama calls himself BLACK, but he is neither Black or White he is both.  Those who fear his Muslim connection do you also fear his white connection?  What would his Mother have to say about his turning his back on her Race?  For the first time America can support both a WHITE and BLACK man at the same time. He has to be fair to both Black and White to be true to himself.
HRC can't run this country....it will no longer be a country if she gets the opportunity....

Obama won't help the country much but wouldn't ruin it either...

Vote McCain and let the country thrive!
Christine Richardson from Texas sounds like a illusionist/Republican lol real staunch Democrats will stand and vote for Obama or Clinton before they would ever vote for John McCain.
mad:

I don't think it will be Hillary, but you never know. I can see (if they want it) several possibilities: Edwards, Richardson, Biden or Dodd. I would like to see Biden. Talk about someone who could be used to lash out and whip up on the republicans nasty campaign tactics, oh boy. And who in the right mind as the republican VP candidate would want to debate Biden.

I will not sway
I will not run away
I will not give away  MY VOTE!!!!!
TEXAS for OBAMA
because I BELIEVE..
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!! OBAMA 08
TO Shannon in WA....
Obama won the caucus in WA, in which delegates were awarded.
However, Democrats also voted in the Republican primary there a couple of weeks later, even though DEM delegates were not awarded.
But what I found so interesting is that thousands more Democrats voted in that primary, and from the last result I saw, there was almost an even split between Obama and Hillary.
Just goes to show that caucuses are not representative of the entire state.

"I am dying to know who Senator Obama will choose as his running mate." -- mad in Madtown

He needs to be very careful and thoroughly vet the person. We don't need another Thomas Eagleton or Geraldine Ferraro.
GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO TEXAS OHIO RHODE ISLAND VERMONT!!!!!!!!

Why I'll never vote Republican again...

Under the republicans from 2001-2007 the debt increased as much as all of the previous 200 years worth of debt

Under the republicans we had tax cuts but also dramtic spending increase...they were the new kings of pork

Under the republicans all of the sudden men who had actually served were denigrated by chickenhawks who never served...

Under the republicans our civil rights have been trampled in some fear generated rush to save ourselves from terrorists who cannot hurt many of us but no civil rights hurts all of us
Message ---To John Doe, Merle and yellow pee dog and Patty, its lunch time the gards just open the doors, see ya after lunch.
Obama DID denounce and (when pushed) reject Farrakhan's support.  But that's what Hilary is being - a pushy, desperate, petty, cringe-worthy candidate.  I can't wait for the primaries to be over and we can all unite around a very qualified, consistent and respectful candidate.  It's about time.
