Danzig: Call Clinton at 3 am March 5

Posted: Friday, February 29, 2008 1:41 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
On a conference call to respond to the "3 am" ad that the Clinton campaign went on air with today, former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig, an Obama supporter, gave a terse response when asked if Clinton should drop out after March 4th.

"I would encourage you on March 5th to call Sen. Clinton at 3 a.m. and ask that question," Danzig said.

A morning (and early afternoon) of dueling conference calls and spin started with Obama campaign manager David Plouffe dismissing the Clinton ad. Since that mid-morning call, both Obama and three of his national co-chairs have responded.

Stressing that Clinton failed in her own "red-phone moment," Sen. Dick Durbin today referred to 12:50 a.m. on October 2002 when Congress voted to authorize President Bush to go to war. Durbin called that night a "red-phone moment" and said that 77 senators, including Clinton and McCain failed exercise the right judgment.

Gen. Tony McPeak (Ret.), the former Air Force chief of staff, told reporters that if they want to see who can handle the phone call at 3 a.m., they should examine the leadership the candidates have exercised over the course of this campaign.

"A campaign is a lot like a war in many respects," McPeak said. "If you want to know what kind of commander in chief Senator Obama would be why don't you look at the kind of campaigns that have been run?"

"Are you firing people? Are you loaning yourself money?" he continued.

He also argued that it wasn' t just judgment that was important at 3 a.m., but also temperment. Danzig also responded strongly, saying this type of ad feeds a wrong impression of what it takes to be president and argued that Obama had better judgment and leadership skills than the New York senator.

I LOVE.........the Obama camp!!! Danzig rocks!!!
Classic....just classic...!!
Good response....I will be laughing all day off that one. The Obama campaign will be in history as one of the best ran campaigns ever!!!
Go Obama Go!!
I bet W just lets's the answering machine take the call at 3:00 AM.  It's probably Cheney looking for another bottle of booze anyway.
The desparation of the Hilliary and Bill Clinton campaign is so very disheartening and apparent.  WHAT experience does she POSSIBLY HAVE?  She was FIRST LADY and has been a SENATOR--her ONLY elected position.  No I don't trust her with the 3 am phone call---it will probably be her husband's latest mistress.

This is ridiculous as is her campaign.
Obama has professionals on his side. Hillary has idiots.
ZING! What is it that make Bill Clinton look like a goon when he tries to say this kind of stuff? The Obama guys seem to do it with such class? Or maybe its just more believable
Could the Obama supporters be any more naive and arrogant?
Obama will never win a General Election.Even if he spent a trillion dollars.
The whole Obama campaign style and quick response is called Obama-litics! The new style of Politics: Dawn of a New Era!

Love It!

Obma 2008!
I have a question . . . if the unthinkable happens . . . and terrorists strike America again . . . how will having a "more experienced" President make things any better?

Will the terrorists just go away just because Senator Clinton once took a trip to a neighboring country? Will "islamo-fascism" go into hibernation because America elects a former soldier?

If the phone rings at 3 AM, and the unthinkable has happened, America will need a leader who can bring us all together to fight a common enemy, not turn us against each other and the world with the false security of "us v. them" politics.

This argument BOLSTERS the case for Senator Obama . . . in an uncertain world we need someone with an unwavering vision of what America stands for. That person is Barack Obama.

Obama '08
I'll say it again. The way the Clintons ran this campaign was a reflection of how her Administration would have been.

Just like we saw in the 1990's - no discipline.

Not good.

The party's over.
Amazing how Obama and his people are so quick and thorough when Hillary and her supporters try whatever they can to attack or get a reaction out of Obama. I noticed that about Obama in their last debate. This is a sharp individual you do not want to try and upstage with crap. He is going to very subtley and perhaps sometimes not so subtley rip Mccain a new you know what in the general election campaign. Obama is truly amazing to watch.
Puh-Leez!
If you honestly believe there is no difference between a senate vote and a True National emergency then, Mrs. Clinton has Proven her Point!
It's 3 am...the phone rings.  A woman asks to speak to Bill.
It's 3 am...the phone rings.  A woman asks to speak to Bill.
If Hillary's vote was indicative of her being a failure then she was in very good company as 77 Senators voted exactly as she did.

Why did they vote that way?  Because they were lied to.  They actually took our President, the elected leader of the nation, at his word.

So now we are in the war (ditch if you will) and we have to figure out how we will do this without causing more problems.  I don't know how we will do that but I know enough to accept that we will never find a solution if we keep gloating over not having voted to get us there in the first place.

So ok.  Barach, you are right.  We should never put trust in our elected officials again.  Now tell me some more about joining the parties together in a spirit of collegiallity.
If these kinds of ads, which are obviously backfiring worse than stunts by none other than Wiley Coyote... if these ads are all Clinton's got, mimicking Republican manuevers, then she'd be in HUGE trouble in the General Election.

And Obama's effectiveness in countering them is superb.  He's ready to go.  I'm so excited for the future of America!
We sure could, NS, could you be anymore critical and dull on a Friday afternoon?

We sure could, NS, could you be anymore critical and dull on a Friday afternoon?

Thinking about the red phone with my "gut", I would  far far rather have Obama's hand on that phone than Clinton (emotional) or McCain (angry).
Thinking about the red phone with my "gut", I would  far far rather have Obama's hand on that phone than Clinton (emotional) or McCain (angry).
Babies at play...you ain't seen nothing yet.  Wait till I get my Penn on you!
I can imagine Hillary calling world leaders at 3 AM angrily protesting over something that is not what she wants because she realizes she is a fighter who can cat fight over anything, not seek out common ground in our divided world of 21st century.
Whatever the cocky Penn thinks, only a smart and sensible person will recognize his real intent. The Clinton campaign will say and deploy any tactics to win, whether through litigation or all-out ad attacks enitrely loaded with lies because there is little other negatives they can think of that have truth to them. They also utilize fear monging as if America is a gullible and overly fearful nation despite its superpower status.
I think that the primary reason why Hillary won the primmaries but hardly the cacuses is because of ehr name -- name recognition on the ballot serves as a turn on. But when a group of individuals compete for their candidate and truthfully  exchange facts about each candidate, people overcome their prejudice over Obama's name and go over the facts. When voting to choose between Hillary and Obama, Democrats are much more familiar with Hillary, but they don't have anyone to give them their take on the respective candidates since what they get is TV/radio ads and mailers that are misleading or outright false for average voters to make a meaningful decision.
In the World of One line Comeback's, Barack's campaign has them all baffled.Wake up Hillary, it's 3 a.m. march 5th, the voter's of Texas, Ohio, Vermont have Rejected & Denounced your campaign. The good news is Rhode Island is still be counted, it seem's as tho, someone from Your campaign took Home several ballot boxes. What shall we do now Hillary, her response,' Hell, i don't care, Bill told me i'd be President, so i'll be President of New York, yeah that's it, President of New York".

It is Over, it's been Over for sometime now. Only the Diehards are ironically, Hopeing for a Miracle.

Barack Obama the next POTUS!!!!!!!
Patty:  shut up already.  we're done with you.

NS: the same can be send about HRC supporters...but we are less naive since our guys is winning.  there are more of us than there are of you (think of it that way).
Could the Obama supporters be any more naive and arrogant?

Don't get mad get even.

Hillary will get her way Tuesday. We'll have the Obamabots crying foul and calling for an investigation on voter fraud.

watch and learn Obama.

Hillary is about to sweep you under the rug.
Patty in SD, tell Bill that just because its midnight in San Diego, he shouldn't be calling Hillary (3:00 Am in DC) to say he'll be right home.
OK, he made one decision that 66% of america thinks was good.
WHAT ELSE HAS HE DECIDED? Besides marrying a gorgeous wife?
He can't ride this line all the way to the White House. Not on my watch. It works in the Dem promary, but the national election will demand more.
I've read what he has to offer and it scares me.
Ladies and gentleman, we've reached the end of the Democratic primary...
Thinking about the red phone with my "gut", I would  far far rather have Obama's hand on that phone than Clinton (emotional) or McCain (angry).

That response was perfect. I would like you all to click on this link and read what Dick Morris has to say about Obama's ability to lead. Dick knows the Clintons better then most. If you like the article then pass it on to other blogs by copying the link into other posts you make.

Dude that is not a good point of reference, so I guess that is a valid argument for those who fought FOR slavery, those who fought FOR women NOT having the right to vote, those wh fought AGAINST civil rights...I mean really, I doubt you would cast a vote for them today based on the judgement they displayed then...
Silly-season has just turned to flat out stupid. The Clinton campaign reflects the most amazing 3 month turn from arrogance, to complacency, to lack of attention, to attention, to ineptitude, to silliness, to desperation to stupidity. This is truly a treatise on her ability to lead, remain seady and inspire.

--Normally, I would attempt to quip some random, semi-witty comment ...but this is better than anything I got.  A great answer, and I hope somebody follows through.

Obama will never win a [g]eneral [e]lection.[  ]Even if he spent a trillion dollars.

--Normally I try to avoid responding to extreme, baseless posts, but you bring up an interesting point.  Given Mr. Obama’s fundraising ability, he might just raise $1,000,000,000,001.  Then, he might be able to pull it off—even by your hyperbolic standards.    :  )

**One trillion dollars is an interesting number, as it’s 1/10th our national debt.  No politician is actually worth that.
Let me write a snippet of a speech for Obama regarding that ad:

"Now, Hillary Clinton likes to say that I offer only eloquence and empty words, that I offer hope rather than action. Even though my campaign is getting more folks involved, getting them to think about their political options and the sort of solutions they want, some of her supporters like to claim that the folks supporting me are somehow delusional.

"And now, just today, we see this new ad from her campaign... have you seen it? There is a phone ringing in the white house at 3 AM one morning, and she asks you who you are comfortable having in the White House there to answer, raising the spectre of a terrorist threat, or impending crisis... raising the spectre of fear.

"Well, in answer to that, let me read you a quote:

'One of [my] laws of politics is this: If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.'

"My campaign is getting offering hope because I see a better way of doing things... my campaign is energized by the work and support you all are doing... I am energized by that support... Together we see a different way through the challenges that face us than resorting to the politics of fear and division.

[then, off-handedly]
"Oh, and lest I be charged with some sort of plagiarism, the politician who I just quoted a moment ago? That was Bill Clinton in 2004. '"One of Clinton's laws of politics is this: If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.'"

THAT would make a great speech moment.

(Credit to another poster on a prior First Read thread for first posting the Bill Clinton quote.)
Christian, Ignore Patty, the rest of us do.

I'll say this, it's good that these Clinton supporters are so decidated to her, but this race isn't over and IF she pulls this out they are going to need OUR (Obama supporters)support for her to even have a slim chance of winning.

Clinton supporters: Show some class
YES!

Now this is what I call a great campaign.
Desperate Clintons tried a fast fear-mongering one. Now, every time that ad comes up, parents will just flip channels. This is not the kinds of stuff I want my children to be watching. I don't want to live in a world of fear.

The Clintons are just helping Republicans know what works and what doesn't work. Idiots!
Why doesn't everyone quit spouting off and really thing about it.  it's not funny. Is someone with his experience ready to take on something as serious as an attack on America?  Hope and change won't help when you are in that sitution. I think everyone just thinks this thing with Obama is fun and games.

OBAMA '08

It's easy to run a campaign when it is financed by Tony Rezko and British-Iraqi billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, the man who helped bankroll the purchase of Obama's Chicago mansion with a $3.5 million loan, filtered through none other than Mr. Rezko.  Oh yes, one is a convicted felon, and Rezko is about to become one.  They both have one thing in common, they are close friends of Barack Obama.  Oh well, so much for the politics of "CHANGE".  To paraphrase a famous quote, "methinks there is something rotten in Chicago".

Sorry, I don't get it. I don't get how calling HRC at 3:00 a.m. the day after a primary has anything to do with this ad. Call me dumb, but I do have a Ph.D. I think it is very cowardly of BO to bash Hillary on her vote on the war. Seeing as she was from NEW YORK, the state that actually got hit by the terrorists (for the SECOND time by the way), and he was just some guy SAYING how he WOULD have voted. It's easy to say how you WOULD vote. It's very different when you're actually on the spot and have to push that button. Which btw, he has not had the guts to do how many times? How many times did he refuse to vote for or against bills in his own state. You know, it's real easy for me to be critical of those senators who voted for the war when I'm sitting out here in the middle of rural Arkansas with almost zero threat of a terrorist attack. It's also real easy for us to forget that 70 or 80 percent of Americans happened to be for going to the war when that vote was taken. Have you all forgotten that? Now that things aren't going so great, all the sudden we have amnesia. But I think we should have some respect for the people who live on the terrorists' "FRONT LINES", i.e. cities like New York and D.C. I'm sure it is very different from their view of the world.
how come she let the phone ring six times before picking it up?
