Campaigns trade polling place accusations

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
COLUMBUS, OH -- Voting is reported to be steady and smooth in Ohio today, despite the terrible weather conditions. But Clinton’s campaign has thrown a few caution flags over what it says are reports of inappropriate behavior by Obama poll watchers.

In a statement, Clinton’s state director Robby Mook said the campaign has “heard troubling reports of irregularities and inappropriate behavior by Sen. Obama’s campaign across the state.” Specifically, Mook pointed to a certified Obama poll watcher being removed by a presiding judge in Akron for “aggressively challenging voters.” And in Cincinnati, Mook alleged hearing “numerous reports that Obama poll watchers have been reprimanded after wearing campaign paraphernalia” at the polling cites.

Gov. Ted Strickland, speaking with reporters at Clinton’s state headquarters, said the campaign has “gotten some reports that concern us” in parts of the state. “But I know Ohio well, and I know the people of Ohio well, and I think the people will insist that those who come to the polling places be treated respectfully, and that they be allowed to register their choice,” he said.

Without referring to any of the Clinton camp’s specific claims, the Obama camp released a statement from state director Paul Tewes, who said the campaign’s goal “is to ensure that any registered voter in the state of Ohio can go to the polls and cast their ballot for their candidate of choice without interference. We understand that the Clinton campaign may want to depress turnout because Barack Obama has closed a 20-point gap over the course of this month as voters across the state got to know him.”

The statement went on to say that the campaign has heard reports that Republican and independent voters who asked for a Democratic ballot received Republican or issue-only ballots “instead of the Democratic ballot they were entitled to,” and also that some voter ID requirements were “misstated” at certain locations, causing voters to be turned away.

Patrick Gallaway, communications director for Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, said that no issues have been brought to his attention, but that, based on what Clinton’s campaign is claiming, “It sounds like the presiding judges are doing their job.” Brian Williams, director of the Summit County Board of Elections, said that he had heard of a precinct in Akron where an individual was speaking to voters, but that it had been resolved without incident. “If that’s the incident that I’m aware of,” he said of the Clinton camp’s claim, “I think that’s an overstatement. I would not characterize that as aggressively challenging voters.”

Gallaway did say that there is concern about voting in certain counties that have been effected by flooding. In Jefferson County, the secretary of state’s office has authorized alternative voting locations for those who are unable to reach their designated site because of flooding. They are on notice for other locations, as well.

At this time, both Strickland and Gallaway said that it does not appear that the state will extend voting hours beyond the 7:30 pm deadline. “No one will be deprived of the opportunity to vote if they in fact are in line at the closing hour,” Strickland said.

Strickland has been one of Clinton’s most prominent and active surrogates in the Buckeye State, and said that he is confident that Clinton will carry the state today. “I think it may be very close, but she has consistently held her own over the last couple of weeks,” he said. “In fact, there is some indication that it’s breaking her way here during these later hours. So I’m very optimistic.”

Asked if Clinton should withdraw from the race if she does not carry the state, Strickland said that it would be a decision she would have to make, but he would recommend she press on. “I think every state, including the great state of Pennsylvania, has a right to express itself at the polls,” he said. “And I for one will not stand by silently and see some people try to bully senator Clinton out of this race.”

####NEWS ALERT#### THERE HAS BEEN "NUMEROUS" OBAMA SUPPORTERS IN TEXAS,WHO HAVE DESTROYEED CLINTON POSTERS AND SIGNS AT POLLING PLACES AND HOMES.
TEXAS CAUCUS FOR HILLARY TONIGHT.
He and his voters will do anything to win. On this blog instead of discussing issues they call Hillary supporters names, call them stupid etc. They have nothing else to stand on because their man has little experience and less knowledge. Hillary will have them really mad after she wins tonight.
Anyone who is interested in what is actually going on in Ohio should check out the Buckeye State Blog:

http://www.buckeyestateblog.com/

They have an open thread on the blog where people can report irregularities.

Please don't simply believe the spin coming from the Clintons' machine.  Just out what Ohioans on the ground are actually experiencing.
Here we go with the Clinton complaints again. God, I hope Hillary wins Ohio. I would hate to have to listen to all the excuses and complaints. Let her have Ohio Obama. She can't win the primary election even if she does win Ohio. Then we won't have to put up with her whining tomorrow. Just with her continuous whining into the primary in PA after losing in Misissippi and Montana.
Will Obama drop out of race if he loses Texas and Ohio ?
I hope this means that Hillary is privy to the exit poll information and can see the writing on the wall.  In case she can't, this is what it says:

"Send in the flying monkeys.  She's melting.  Obama 08."
Gov. Strickland, thank you for sticking up for Hillary.  There are some that want to bury her, but I'm glad she has someone like you to stand up for her.  I think she is going to be fine.  I'm not giving up on her.  GO HILLARY

MSNBC, you've got your facts wrong, AGAIN!! Here in the D/FW, Tx area, it isn't the Obama camp that's causing friction, but Clinton's camp.  Please read:

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd share with you the latest:

The Clinton camp is telling folks to arrive at the caucus at 6:30 and
Obama is stressing 7:00pm.

This was forwarded to me. Please pass this around to all your Texas
Groups and anyone you know in the media! I was wondering today why
Hillary was telling her supporters to be at the caucus at 6:30!

In addition to the comments below, be aware that the potential impact
of this is that a full parking lot at 6:30 PM could dissuade late Obama
voters from casting their Primary ballot because they cannot find a
parking space. This could be considered impeding voting.

For Obama Precinct Captains who are monitoring their voting location on
March 4 (100 feet from the polling location until 7:00 pm or until the
last voter is done) stay alert and report any questionable activities
to the election judge and call the Obama Precinct Captain Hotline for
election day questions and concerns at 1-877-48-OBAMA (62262) or the
Texas Democratic Precinct Convention at 1-800-336-3254.

'Clinton has been telling her supporters to show up at 6:30
[Dallas/Mesquite speech on Saturday, March 1], while Obama keeps
stressing 7:00. I'm afraid there's going to be some shenanigans
involving cl osing the doors at caucus sites when at capacity or at 7:15
PM whichever comes first. There was a similar gambit run in Nevada
where the Clinton camp shut out a good number of caucus goers by
barring the doors.

Anybody who has got a line on Obama folks or Texas caucus goers please
pass along the heads up to show up early and not to get muscled. Know
your rights!

Compounding this issue is the possibility there may not be enough
caucus chairs to go around for the 8,000 sights leading to the 1st
person in the door being the caucus arbiter (TDP's apparent policy).

Again let's try to get the word out about this possibility as there is
no doubt the Clinton camp is going to try to game this one.''
Hillary after your wins tonight I hope you will keep fighting for the people who believe in you so much. You are our only hope for the future. Forget Barry, he'll dry up in a few days, too many unanswered questions with him. Even with the media, GOP and him running against you, you have Barry on the ropes.
Why doesn't First Read update the NAFTA story? NYTimes did:

In Canada, however, interest has centered on who leaked the memo and that person’s motives. Unlike Washington, Canadian government documents are protected by strict secrecy laws and rarely make their way to reporters. That has particularly been the case with Mr. Harper’s Conservative government which keeps unusually tight control on information.
When question period arrived, it was Canada’s leading critic of Nafta, New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton, who raised an ABC News report that identified Mr. Harper’s chief of staff, Ian Brodie, as the source of the leak.
“Canadians have become increasingly alarmed at reports that the prime minister’s office has been interfering in the Democratic primaries with false accusations, trying to silence Barack Obama who simply wants to amend the Nafta,” Mr. Layton told Parliament before demanding that Mr. Harper fire Mr. Brodie, “the source of the interference.”
Mr. Harper, whose government summoned the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to investigate other leaks, ignored Mr. Layton’s suggestion about his top political aide.
Instead, Mr. Harper said the Canadian embassy in Washington “regretted the fact that information has come out that would imply that Senator Obama has been saying different things in public than in private. The government of Canada does not condone this and certainly regrets any implication.”
Mr. Harper also mocked suggestions that he could undermine Mr. Obama’s campaign.
“I am a little bit amused by the question of the leader of the N.D.P. who is suggesting that we are so all powerful we could interfere in the American election and pick their president for them,” Mr. Harper said. “This government does not claim that kind of power.”
In an interview after the exchange, Mr. Layton, whose left of center party is backed by many unions, said that he will continue to believe that Mr. Brodie was the source unless the government shows otherwise. But the Conservative government’s motive, he added, was most likely its strong support for continental free trade. An earlier Conservative government negotiated Nafta as well as the free trade agreement between Canada and the United States that preceded it.
“I can only surmise that Mr. Harper wants to silence those in the U.S. Democratic race who are trying to raise issues about Nafta and, in doing so, help his Republican friends through a happy coincidence,” Mr. Layton said. “Canadians would be very concerned if there were any similar attempts by Americans to influence a Canadian election.”
More victimology from the candidate who claims to have the "strength and experience" to lead from "day 1".  Well, at least if she is elected President, she won't have to wonder why she always gets the first question . . .

lol

Obama '08
Obama's turn to ignore the rules...he's a dirty you know what!
If Clinton weren't such a vitrolic liar and hate-monger, I might be happy for her if she somehow manages to steal the election...

But that's just not the case...
Strickland's comments that he thought it may be breaking Hillary's way in the latter part of the day is another way of telling people that Obama was doing well early and leading. Yet, being a Hillary supporter why is it he seems to have information as to how it is going? Is there something here we do not know but should know. Does he have his fingers in where they don't belong? Regarding his comment that he would not stand silently and allow people to bully Hillary out of this race was an idle threat. If the people and Dems want Hillary out of the race he and she will be moved out of the way.
Including a Bomb Threat called into somewhere in Lake County about 3 hours ago(per some news i've been surfing thru). Don't start whineing Now Hillary, this is the game you wanted to play, so have some More Fun. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

BTW: Lake county is in northeast ohio, Barack Obama country.
We need to hold campaigns accountable for any hint of intimidation or fraud. They must also be held to the highest standards of democracy. So, we need more strict federal legislation with harsh penalities, if we want to preserve the spirit of American democracy.
I don't care who wins today, but I hope voters are not intmidated or inconvenienced in any way.
More Clinton campaign disruptions:

The Dallas Morning News and other sources have released details from Clinton campaign training materials it received on how Hillary plans to hijack the Texas caucuses tonight. According to the report, the Clinton campaign is pushing to train precinct captains (i.e., enforcers) for Texas' 8000 Democratic polling places with the aim of taking control of caucus sessions from which 67 of the state's delegates will be awarded. From these training materials it is clear that the Clinton campaign seeks to aggressively take control of caucuses so as to produce a better result for Hillary, perhaps through strong-arm tactics. "DO NOT allow the supporter of another candidate to serve in leadership roles" at caucus sites, the Clinton materials read, clearly expressing the aim of asserting Clintonite control over caucus proceedings, "...If our supporters are outnumbered, ask the Temporary Chair if one of our supporters can serve as the Secretary, in the interest of fairness." It would seem, however, that "fairness" is the last thing on the minds of those who wrote these materials: "The control of the sign-in sheets and the announcement of the delegates allotted to each candidate are the critical functions of the Chair and Secretary," they continue, "This is why it is so important that Hillary supporters hold these positions." Clearly the Clinton campaign hopes that their foot soldiers will be able suppress Obama support by taking over caucus sites, gaining control of the proceedings, and perhaps even intimidating or otherwise preventing Obama supporters fully taking part. Given Obama's strength of sheer numbers in Texas it seems unlikely that Clinton and her minions would be able to actually take over caucus sites statewide without some pretty stiff opposition, particularly in delegate-rich population centers such as Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth where Obama has the popular advantage and a far more more extensive ground operation than Clinton. This story is also quickly making its way around the web, so it seems unlikely that any such acts of electoral piracy could be committed without attracting a great deal of attention. Nonetheless, it would seem a good idea for Obama supporters in Texas to show up at caucus sites early, in force, and armed with video cameras in case of any overt intimidation.
WE ALL KNOW THERE IS A DOUBLE STANDARD GOING ON IN THIS PRIMARY PROCESS BECAUSE IF  BARACK OBAMA LOST 11 PRIMARIES CONSECTUTIVELY  THE NOMANIEE WOULD BE................ YOU FILL IN THE BLANKS
That's what happens with the cult of Obama, lol.

But you can't really blame Obama for the rabid percentage of those supporting him.

Funny story on Obama cultists:
http://www.nationalscold.com/2008/02/daily-scold-cultists-behind-obamas-cult.html
Asked if Clinton should withdraw from the race if she does not carry the state, Strickland said 'Hillary should never drop out of the race even if she loses the next six. She should rip the nomination out of Obama's hands, spit in his face and call him a stupid rookie politician and tell him politiccs is no place for honest, hardworking, campaigners. Only crooked evil people desreve to run the country and Americans should just live with it!!!!'
Governor Strickland is correct. After today, the situation may be different; however, the candidates are basically tied at this point. Until one candidate has the required number of delegates, the race is not over. Much can happen in a short period of time that might change a person's vote. Those in states that have not yet voted have a right to cast their ballot.
Ohio is taking lessons from New Mexico, lost ballot boxes, etc,  no matter what happens, you can bet the Clinton team will win the nomination.  It has become a crusade for them, they do not like to lose, and just take a look at all the poor soles that dared to cross their paths,  DEAD
"Brian Williams, director of the Summit County Board of Elections, said that he had heard of a precinct in Akron where an individual was speaking to voters, but that it had been resolved without incident. “If that’s the incident that I’m aware of,” he said of the Clinton camp’s claim, “I think that’s an overstatement. I would not characterize that as aggressively challenging voters.”

I'm SHOCKED I tell you SHOCKED, and appalled that the Clinton campaign of all people would mischaracterize and overstate something. To the best of my knowledge, these are people who are beyond reproach, as far as I know, and I have to say, I don't think there would be any basis for it, except in the limited instance where there might be, but I am not aware of anything like that, but of course I am completely out of the loop on these things and leave it to my surrogates to keep me posted, and for the most part, they are completely honest, except for when they are not.
Give them hell Hillary and dodn't stop swinging.

Hillary 08
I wonder if they have gotten to know him.  Over the past 8 hours or so it appears more and more shady dealing has been going on with Obama and his "political" rhetoric.  I think it might be too late, but it certainly gives McCain an edge now.
The Clinton's have shown that "all is fair". She's tried to "hamstring" Barack on numerous occassions through out this primary season. Now she wants to cry about fairness at the polls. Please, give me a break. She needs to drop out of the race and support the candidate that can actually beat McCain in the general election.
Typical  of the Chickensh*t tactics by the Clintons

It will be sweet to be rid of that evil witch !!

Bye, bye Billary !!

Barack Obama will be your next President

Barack Obama is inevitable

Why does Obama want Hillary to withdraw just as the Rezko trial is heating up???
LOL
As an Ohio voter I can attest to the difficulties at the polling place but I think it is not intentional.  Many voters may want to vote for members of both parties (perhaps you want to vote for a candidate for sheriff that is running as a Republican and you want to vote for a Democrat running for President....bottom line, you can't.  You must choose from Democ4rat, Republican or Independant.  Independant ballots contain issue votes only.
More of Hillary trying to tarnish Obama's image. Nice. I guess if she can't win the nomination, she'll just make sure that the person who does, doen't win the general election. That's right Hillary, take the party down with you. What a great leader!

...Don't trust ANYTHING that comes out of her campaign - everything they have thrown at him to this point is provably either an overstatement, a misrepresentation, or an outright lie...Just more Clintrovian Politics from Hillary...Big Surprise.
Obama’s supporters are bully.  Chicago style intimidating elderly and shy people. It is one of the reasons he is doing well in caucuses.
I hope that Texas caucuses will be peaceful.
Go Hillary!!!
It is truly amazing how the state (Ohio) highest elected official in Ohio is boasting how he wants to crack heads of anyone suggesting that Hillary step aside for the good of the party. While Barack has had his shares of Governor supporting him, I can't say I have heard of one so partisan as Honorable Governor of Ohio.  One wonders whether this is about winning in November or secure one entitlement.
It's worse in Texas!  Obamabots are getting Obama supporters to sign up for the caucus.
Clearly violating the rules!!
But it's OK in ObamaWorld - and NOT reported on MSNBC.
Which part of the sink is this?

I am thinking of changing into a Republican. I am beginning to think my IQ is too high to be a Democrat.
Of course, it would be mighty selfish....lets see, my household income is high enough that the tax cuts do not matter, my children do not attend public schools, I have great health insurance. I am old enough that getting pregnant isn't a possibility.  Plus if my daughter or granddaughters needed one I can do like most Republicans and take them on a trip to Europe.  I lean Democrat because I think we are all in this world together and helping others reach for the American dream is important.  But after the last decade I am getting cynical.....maybe we should all just think of ourselves.  I keep forgetting that Bush was able to convince 70% of American's that Iraq and September 11th were linked and I shouldn't be surprised that people will believe anything.
The Obama campaign to date has been disciplined and effective and they hold a delegate lead that Senator Clinton couldn't make up if she were to sweep all four contests today and for that matter all of the remaining contests. There would be no need for desperation on the part of the Obama campaign. The desperation is coming from the Clinton campaign as they continue to reach into their diapers and throw whatever it is and hope that it sticks.
Get a hold of yourselves and try to maintain some dignitude.
much ado about nothing
I'm sure politics patty from SD will enlighten us with one of her well thought out comments. Does she work or contribute to society what-so-ever? Oh, about this article. I think we give our fellow american too little credit, they see right through the Clinton machine. Well, maybe they didn't when 53% re-elected Bush, but I have faith this time around.

Down with the Clintons! both of them!
What about Texas where Obama poll workers are having the people fill out caucus forms now instead of coming back to actually physically be there?!?!? This is totally against party rules, and is an outrage!
Judging by the vehemence of Obama followers on blogs, I won't be surprised if they are equally vehement at the polling sites.
Thank you Governor Strickland! As an Ohio voter and Hillary supporter, I am quite frankly tired of the media and Obama superdelegates trying to eliminate Hillary from this race. She should fight on, especially if she wins Ohio. Everyone deserves a vote. Let's not let the Red States tell Democrats who they should vote for. Everyone deserves a chance to express their voice.
The Clinton Campaign is making up lies so that they can contest the race if she does win. They are lower than dirt. She will not prevail. That Governor will suffer for his actions in the next election.
uggh... messy-ness all around. check out this diary on dkos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/4/95525/48051/345/468502
Oh, my God.  A poll worker walked into a polling place were a campaign button.  This is what the Clinton people are complaining about?!!  They are just throwing stuff up against the wall to see what sticks.  They need to give it a rest and go back to complaining about the media.
There you go Hillary - quick throw up accusations so that people don't notice the less than ethical (at BEST) practices your campaign is encouraging in Texas. Behaving more like Bush /Rove EVERY DAY.

I have, for too long, endured the divisiveness that continues to erode our country.  For too long, have special interest held sway in our government—this alone is criminal.  And for too long have I watched the price of oil cause inflation in the United States (I believe this is a plot to destabilize our country’s economy by greed oil companies who set record profits each quarter, and others. . .)  For too long, have I watched our valiant men in uniform, sacrificed (some of which were my friends.) As an American, I am tired of seeing my government (who takes 25-30% of my hard earned wages) unable to agree on almost anything.  This has to stop.  Now, I am sure Hillary Clinton would like to bring our broken country back together, but I fear she simply has too much fight in her personality to be anything other than divisive in her politics as we saw in the last debate, and we continue to see in her negative political attacks. Furthermore, I remember the good and the bad times of the previous Clintons, and no matter how many “super delegates are in their pocket,” I do not wish to revisit those times. I have, for too long endured political speeches that promised only more back- biting once the election was won.  However, as I am often reminded, we are all in this together. After all, we are all Americans.  Republicans see things one way, Democrats see it another, Independents like myself are wishing for the two opposing sides to come together because  WE ARE REALLY ALL ON THE  SAME SIDE!—The American Side.  Now I do not want socialism, or anything similar to it.  What I do want is for my government to work and not be dysfunctional. For too long, have we “The People” paid for a government bought by special interest, and for far too long have we sent money to other countries while some Americans are poor, homeless, and helpless.  For too long, has our governments turned their backs on public education, health care, and the working man/woman.  For far too long have I read about our fallen heroes, our soldiers who will never return--home.
As an American, I deserve better from our politicians.

Now, I do not know Obama personally; however, he is the only person who actually has plans of “substance” ready to address these problems.  I say give the man a chance because he seems like our best  “hope” for the future.  Time will tell.
URGENT
Mark Murray,

In Ohio
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Farrell has sent an E-mail to all polling places that are instructing poll workers to bar obama poll-watchers from polling places.
If there are no other comments, why haven't you listed mine?  Perhaps you would report real facts instead of some of the opinions against Sen. Clinton.
please continue Hillary, we need a President in the oval office, not a preacher!  Pennsylvania supports you!
