Campaigns trade polling place accusations

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
COLUMBUS, OH -- Voting is reported to be steady and smooth in Ohio today, despite the terrible weather conditions. But Clinton’s campaign has thrown a few caution flags over what it says are reports of inappropriate behavior by Obama poll watchers.

In a statement, Clinton’s state director Robby Mook said the campaign has “heard troubling reports of irregularities and inappropriate behavior by Sen. Obama’s campaign across the state.” Specifically, Mook pointed to a certified Obama poll watcher being removed by a presiding judge in Akron for “aggressively challenging voters.” And in Cincinnati, Mook alleged hearing “numerous reports that Obama poll watchers have been reprimanded after wearing campaign paraphernalia” at the polling cites.

Gov. Ted Strickland, speaking with reporters at Clinton’s state headquarters, said the campaign has “gotten some reports that concern us” in parts of the state. “But I know Ohio well, and I know the people of Ohio well, and I think the people will insist that those who come to the polling places be treated respectfully, and that they be allowed to register their choice,” he said.

Without referring to any of the Clinton camp’s specific claims, the Obama camp released a statement from state director Paul Tewes, who said the campaign’s goal “is to ensure that any registered voter in the state of Ohio can go to the polls and cast their ballot for their candidate of choice without interference. We understand that the Clinton campaign may want to depress turnout because Barack Obama has closed a 20-point gap over the course of this month as voters across the state got to know him.”

The statement went on to say that the campaign has heard reports that Republican and independent voters who asked for a Democratic ballot received Republican or issue-only ballots “instead of the Democratic ballot they were entitled to,” and also that some voter ID requirements were “misstated” at certain locations, causing voters to be turned away.

Patrick Gallaway, communications director for Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, said that no issues have been brought to his attention, but that, based on what Clinton’s campaign is claiming, “It sounds like the presiding judges are doing their job.” Brian Williams, director of the Summit County Board of Elections, said that he had heard of a precinct in Akron where an individual was speaking to voters, but that it had been resolved without incident. “If that’s the incident that I’m aware of,” he said of the Clinton camp’s claim, “I think that’s an overstatement. I would not characterize that as aggressively challenging voters.”

Gallaway did say that there is concern about voting in certain counties that have been effected by flooding. In Jefferson County, the secretary of state’s office has authorized alternative voting locations for those who are unable to reach their designated site because of flooding. They are on notice for other locations, as well.

At this time, both Strickland and Gallaway said that it does not appear that the state will extend voting hours beyond the 7:30 pm deadline. “No one will be deprived of the opportunity to vote if they in fact are in line at the closing hour,” Strickland said.

Strickland has been one of Clinton’s most prominent and active surrogates in the Buckeye State, and said that he is confident that Clinton will carry the state today. “I think it may be very close, but she has consistently held her own over the last couple of weeks,” he said. “In fact, there is some indication that it’s breaking her way here during these later hours. So I’m very optimistic.”

Asked if Clinton should withdraw from the race if she does not carry the state, Strickland said that it would be a decision she would have to make, but he would recommend she press on. “I think every state, including the great state of Pennsylvania, has a right to express itself at the polls,” he said. “And I for one will not stand by silently and see some people try to bully senator Clinton out of this race.”

My girlfriend votes in a precinct in the Westwood district on the west side of Cincinnati. It's a mostly Republican area of older homes occupied mainly by aging working class people, but with some younger families moving into the area along with some African-Americans and college students. She voted about 10:30 this morning. At her precinct there were no long lines, NO ONE with signs or literature for Obama, and only one older woman handing out flyers for Clinton. I don't know what to make of this, or whether it has any broader implications.
Various overstatements to try and influence the process of voting to lean more towards Hillary and against Obama.  These reports will turn out to be nothing but the vain attempt ti intimidate and influence voters even at this late date. So sad! that the New York Senator has to resort to such desperate tactics.
Just another monkey wrench thrown by the Cintonistas to make sure that Obama and his supporters look as awful and evil as possible. HRC and her gang of political thuggers will do anything to discredit those of us who are backing Barack.Ted Strickland is nothing but a partisan hack. What a whack job!
Her we go; the spinning machine of the Clintons has gone to work again. She is tipped to carry Ohio by the lord of Ohio, the so deluded Strickland. So if she does not carry Ohio, then it will be down to these incidents! Can we expect to hear during these primaries? What do the American people owe to the Clintons? Why is Hillary so desperate? Come on Hillary, grow up.

I am guessing that this is part of the strategy for Hillary's camp, should it show that Obama is winning in Ohio where it was deemed that she is unbeatable!  Although I am watching this all unfold, I am literally in shock that she has been allowed by the media to get away with the underhanded tactics that she's used against a fellow Democratic, who is clearly superior in character, judgement and brilliance.  Hillary, informed readers will not be swayed by the smear campaign you've run since you lost in Iowa.  I pray to God that the people of Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont will finally end this debacle of a campaign.

I have been completely puzzled as to the reasons that her supporters are so blinded by the reality of her true character, which is clearly someone self-centered, selfish, and spoiled, who displays a haughty sense of entitlement to the highest office in this great country, based on her last name!

I sincerely wish that persons who are voting in this election will be doing so based purely on the integrity an vision of the candidate....which would no doubt lead to a vote for Obama!

Us Obama supporters will continue to believe in a President that will preside over a nation united for the betterment of all!

Yes we can!!!!!!
Obama '08
I just have to spout off here.  I am totally peeved at:  Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Joe Biden, Bill Richardson and John Edwards for not coming forward and endorsing Obama at the same time Chris Dodd did.  Now we have this mess with no candidate chosen before the convention. There, Hillary will likely pitch a hissy fit and demand to be crowned.  What's terrible about this..is the fact that nothing will unite republicans like wanting to defeat Hillary.  With Hillary on the ballot, McCain will be a shoo in. The above guys have got to know that!  Sometimes its good to stay nuetral. This time staying nuetral has been a big mistake. I'm sick about it.  Do any of you fellow Obama supporters feel the same?
Somebody bullying the Clintons. Sounds like crybaby B.S.to me. Nobody is better at bullying people, changing the rules and misleading people than the Clintons. That finger wagging, W.C. Fields looking Slick Willie is the worst offender. He set the bar by saying Billary needed to win both Ohio and Texas to stay in the race and now they are saying Obama has to win all four contests or Billary has been vindicated. What a crock!! Who ever said Clinton was a great president must not have come from the middle class. No on has harmed the middle class more than Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend. N.A.F.T.A., G.A.T., C.A.F.T.A.and the W.T.O. have gutted the middle class, and he and Billary are proud of this? Maybe it's because they support a new world order spearheaded by the C.F.R., the Trilaterals and the Bilderbergers. I am so tired of the hypocrisy and deception that I will NEVER support either of them for anything.
Why do I see the destruction of the Democratic Party becoming a certainty? Two articulate and viable high-profile candidates with well-defined constituencies, a close delegate race and no end in sight. We're almost assured that nothing is going to be settled tonight and Hillary says she's only getting started with that kitchen sink thing. The winner needs the support of the loser AND their well-defined constituencies she their candidate's victory as tantamount to an emancipation.
The Dems: Snatching defeat from sure victory! Hope you're all satisfied.
It's Ohio and the vote is being suppressed. Sounds like Hillary has finally bought into the whole Republican play book.
someone shoudl tell this guy that they don't give prizes for half time scores.  What a pompous a** to assume that he has this all sewn up.  And a windbag to boot!!  Maybe he should stop blowing his own horn long enough to take a lesson on what is will really take to promote real change in this country...EXPERIENCE!!!!

Hillary rules!!

Red Herring.  Look over there those guys are cheating, just a distraction to keep us from catching Strickland, perform his Katharine Harris move.

Give me a break.  We know how Ohio works, we know who controls the establishment and election infrastructure.

Please. They tell us to watch Obama's people, while their robbing the chicken coup. It would be silly to think that Strickland is trying finagle the outcomes, he is way to vested in her campaign.

Other governors endorse offer a few speeches and let things go.  But Strickland, he's a democrat with republican ethics, sort like Clinton.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing.
All I got to say is, KICK BUTT OBAMA VOTERS...SHOW THEM WHO IS TAKING TEXAS.....OBAMA ALL THE WAY...LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN IS GETTING A LITTLE NERVOUS AND IS TRYING TO DEPRESS THE VOTER TURNOUT.....Brian Williams, director of the Summit County Board of Elections stated, "...Clinton's camps claim....is overstated..."  As usual here she goes again.....I hope that the Texas voters send her rump home tonight.....she'll walk away and won't thank them either...she's just that ignorant and ungrateful !
Heaven forbid that this woman would ever win the nomination, much less the Presidency.  She has shown herself over and over again to be a Whiner, with a capital W.  That being said, her whining is actually a large boost to Mr. Obama's support.  She displays the old ways of politics that he denounces.  I'm ready for a fresh and invigorating way to have our country run.  Obama all the way!!  YES, we can!
Our country is torn by a falling economy that has us wanting answers. We have gas prices on a upward trend with money being made at the expense of the people. And the greed goes far beyond that as the people themselves try to make ends meet when little is gained in high housing expenses. We cry for peace and an end to our country's fight which goes on and on to insure freedom for all. What people must understand is this is not new, these are not things that have not happened before. We have seen all of this before and we have always found our hearts joined as one. United One Nation Under God with God as our answer to hope, and not man. So in this election make your decision based on continued 1. Freedom of Worship, 2. Honest Judgement, 3. Knowledgeable Experience . Each candidate holding accountable on their own actions. It is not about a woman, it's not about black. But is is about being an Amercian who is and always has been proud to be in America.
I suppose if the weather seems to work against her in Ohio, she will whine and threaten to sue the Weather Channel!!
An Obama supporter actually threw a half eaten slice of Pizza to a Hillary supporter (holding a card) at one location in Ohio. Please folks, if this is the kind of behavior his supporters show, it reveals a lot about the kind of people pushing him thru. Kids, it does your candidate no good. I can never support a group like that. It's absolutely childish. I am so ticked off by it.
Hillary's campaign pulls and OJ darkening trick. The proof is in the pudding. No matter how you look at it they darkened the frame by a few shades:

please hillary should grow up! she can't keep riding on whining all the time. isn't the sympathy she is getting enough? the reality is that even if she wins all the 4 states, she will still be behind in number of delegates.
My fellow Americans,

I have, for too long, endured the divisiveness that continues to erode our country.  For too long, have special interest held sway in our government—this alone is criminal.  And for too long have I watched the price of oil cause inflation in the United States (I believe this is a plot to destabilize our country’s economy by greed oil companies who set record profits each quarter, and others. . .)  For too long, have I watched our valiant men in uniform, sacrificed (some of which were my friends.) As an American, I am tired of seeing my government (who takes 25-30% of my hard earned wages) unable to agree on almost anything.  This has to stop.  Now, I am sure Hillary Clinton would like to bring our broken country back together, but I fear she simply has too much fight in her personality to be anything other than divisive in her politics as we saw in the last debate, and we continue to see in her negative political attacks. Furthermore, I remember the good and the bad times of the previous Clintons, and no matter how many “super delegates are in their pocket,” I do not wish to revisit those times. I have, for too long endured political speeches that promised only more back- biting once the election was won.  However, as I am often reminded, we are all in this together. After all, we are all Americans.  Republicans see things one way, Democrats see it another, Independents like myself are wishing for the two opposing sides to come together because  WE ARE REALLY ALL ON THE  SAME SIDE!—The American Side.  Now I do not want socialism, or anything similar to it.  What I do want is for my government to work and not be dysfunctional. For too long, have we “The People” paid for a government bought by special interest, and for far too long have we sent money to other countries while some Americans are poor, homeless, and helpless.  For too long, has our governments turned their backs on public education, health care, and the working man/woman.  For far too long have I read about our fallen heroes, our soldiers who will never return--home.
As an American, I deserve better from our politicians.

Now, I do not know Obama personally; however, he is the only person who actually has plans of “substance” ready to address these problems.  I say give the man a chance because he seems like our best  “hope” for the future.  Time will tell.
The last time I checked, you can wear whatever you want to your polling site...This is still America isn't it?
Perfect!!!  Now HRC can contest the validity of votes in Ohio...  I can hear her foot-stomping temper tantrum from here in Northern Nowhere...  Sounds to me like everyone needs a 'time-out'...

Gosh...of course the governor is going to point out claims against the Obama camp I mean, he runs the state and supports a liar.... instead she should be unbiased and report both sides....

Go Obama!
It seems a shame to the whole USA that the elections cannot be held strictly within the laws, and everyone given their fair chance to vote their conscience.

I guess it stems in part from the concepts of political correctness and partly from the denigation of morality we see all the time from those in politics.

Too bad we cannot seem to get candidates who stand for Morals over Money, and absolutely eschew illegal practices.  Guess it is too much when the media take a lead to scoff at the idea of absolute right and wrong being important.  They should not then think it strange when ethical behaviour goes by the boards at the polling places.
Afterall, Clinton was orginally a Republican, hence this is happening in Ohio is no surprise, turning away voters and not allowing them to vote their choice!  Watch for it elsewhere Bilhary is being challenged.
The only people that would bully Hillary out of the race are the ones afraid of her.  She has strength, experience and substance on her side.  Their are those who are intimidated by such a woman.  Go Hillary all the way to the convention!
Once in a lifetime someone comes along and challenges the status quo through thoughtful intelligence.  Once in a lifetime someone comes along that speaks with such eloquence other are forced to listen. Once in a lifetime someone comes along who truly cares to empower the average American, instead of placate the privileged few. Once in a lifetime someone comes along that has the courage to challenge the special interest , a dangerous thing to do. Once in a lifetime someone comes along who lifts the spirit of all Americans!  The question is: are you really going to let this once in a lifetime opportunity to correct our bought and paid for governments (by special interest) pass you by?

Resistance is futile, join us in our quest for perfection, vote Obama...
Message from John Carigan, NY, NY sent Tues, March 4,08 at 4:42 pm - is a veiled Racist remark and he should be ashamed. Check it out!! No candidate, Republican or Democrat supports this. How un-American and just plain stupid. Is that the best argument John can come up with. I thought this site monitored such thing much better - disappointed....
I don't understand Hillary's claim to experience.  Did Bill include her in his cabinet meetings?  In his phone conversations and meetings with various heads of state?  Or did Bill make her privy to national secrets in the privacy of their bedroom?  If this is how Hillary got her experience does this translate to Bill advising her on prsidential matters while lying in bed?  If there existed a dual presidency while Bill was in office, can we expect any less if Hillary wins the presidency?
At the end of the day, Hillary will lose and Obama will be in.  Actually, I would rather have Hillary win since it would be easier for my candidate McCain to beat her than Obama.
Hillary doesn't care if she's playing unfair. Barak does have more experience than Clinton. Does anyone check his resume', it's awsome. Everything Hillary has done is in the court's or has been sending someone else up the river for. Ohio, Texas, RI, VT...this couple has lived off the backs of every American. Do you really want someone in power (team) that uses the oval office for pleasure instead of 'embassy bombing', WTC 1st assault, the 'Cole' bombing, the Waco firepit, etc., etc.. Don't do it Texas...go Obama.
Hillary Dillary Dock
I'd rather vote for a rock.

Go Obama !  Let's get it over with so the whining will stop.  What's that I hear ?  Another complaint? Of course, what do you expect?  The rumor machine gears are a-turning and the whining does end up on court steps sometimes.  The tactic is old stuff. After the ballots are dropped, then you find out there was no basis for the complaints.  Come on you guys, where have you been?  Lots of young ones out there you know.  First time voters?  It's all about stirring up the stew.  Go Obama...overcome the whining lady.
NEWS ALERT... people can just make stuff up and post it on the internet and some people take it as certified gospel. 'I heard that Hillary and Obama were both personally pulling voters from cars and pulling out their eyes. No, it's true because my 2nd cousin's brother's hair dresser saw it at 31 flavors!' Give it a rest people.
Anybody notice how much Obama looks (and acts) like Howdy Doody?
I hope Hillary wins, I'm not afraid of a women in power, We need somebody to stand up for the working class of America, And bring our men and women back home from this war that nobody is ever going to change in the middle east! And I DO SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, But those idiots have been fighting for years.
Obama caught in lie, and they still want him as a president. I thought the lies come after they become
President. Bush ring a bell ? so why do people want to vote for Obama if he's not being truthful already, and do we really know him ?
People please Clinton is politics as usual, when it gets tought start slinging mud and she is showing her true colors Obama is the man YES WE CAN!!!!!
GO OBAMA 08!
WHINNING IS NOT WINNING!!!
TELL THE TRUTH!!!IBELIEVE
BUSHIES CIA TORE DOWN THE SIGNS AND POSTER OF CLINTON
SO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CAN WIN!!!
GO OBAMA 08!
I think it is about time we give the seat to a women.
There is nothing wrong with a women, as a child you get hurt, run to your mother who is a women, couple have a problem they go home, to their mother, It is a women who stands in the harbor, and takes her licks. Family split up, the mother who does not make alot of money, She raises the children to the best of ability . The mother is precious, and that is one way we got to live in America. Lets hear it for the women. I during the Great Depression.
GO OBAMA 08!
WHINNING IS NOT WINNING!!!
TELL THE TRUTH!!!IBELIEVE
BUSHIES CIA TORE DOWN THE SIGNS AND POSTER OF CLINTON
SO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY CAN WIN!!!
GO OBAMA 08!
these canadites my spelling is bad all these people out there listing to these speaches . where are all the christians ? we need god in all we do. dosent any one remember 911? we need christanity in all goverment. from the top down.i liked the gov.from ar.if we cant get him go hillary  go.our co was founged on christainty we dont need no one with a musulain back ground christians you need to voice you rights.those of us on very low income this gas has got out of hand we cant go any where or buy food, meds this realy needs work.us little people are the ones who all way gets the crunch
The Texas Republicans are doing their part to help Hillary by voting in the Democrat primary today.  If she can get the nomination, McCain is home free.
And why is that different then Obama's people taking strict control of the caucuses....which they've been doing since Iowa.
all the petty bickering, sabre rattling and race baiting from the Clinton camp has been disingenuous to say the least. now would be a fine time for clinton to bow out gracefully with the very last vestiges of what pride she may still have left.
she makes all of us women look like we are on permanent pms!!!
inspit of having been an ardent democrat i would have been happy to vote for mccain if clinton was the other choice.
Obama gives me the creeps.  All flash, no substance.  I don't trust him in the slightest, and I am disgusted that the country has been fooled again by another incompetent (how the heck did Bush ever win - twice?!!!).  If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, I will be truly discouraged and hopeless about the state of the nation.  I have always voted Democrat, but if Obama is my only choice, this will change my vote away from the Democrats.  How many more years are we going to allow the USA to be the laughing stock of the world?
I HAVE BEEN WATCHING NEWS ON AND OFF. BUT I REALLY THINK THAT WE NEED TO HAVE OBAMA AS PRESIDENT. MAYBE NEXT TERM HILLARY.
Is it not ironic that for the first time a person of color( men) is in a race with a woman for the presidency, and to boot the same party .This will split ultimately the votes to such an extend that McCain is a schoo-in.
he has already won ...

This is really frustrating to know that a civilized nation like this one has it's people come to this way of expressing their opinions.  Facts should speak for themselves.  I may not agree with everything Hillary says, but I would rather go with exoerience rather with slogans,i.e. CHANGE.  In reality with do respect ot  Obama, one can promise the world, I don't know and not ONE of know if he is going to deliver, or he may.  Some of us still hold a grudge against the Clintons because of Bill, but that is not fair to hate the Clintons.  Did you know the only Economic Expansion in the US history was during first Clinton administration.  I think to run for the highest office of the nation, you must have a good RESUME, and by that I mean a track record and EXPERIENCE.
