A long seven weeks...

Could the burst of negative campaigning in the last three days before yesterday's primaries have made a difference to voters in Ohio or Texas?

David Axelrod, Obama's chief media strategist, thronged by reporters minutes before Obama took the stage, dodged that question.

But he also left the door open to the idea that should the Clinton campaign continue to hit Obama there would be a tit for tat.

"We have not hesitated to draw distinctions between the candidates," he said, "and we'll continue to do that. If Sen. Clinton wants to take the debate to various places, we'll join that debate. We'll do it on our terms and in our own way, but if she wants to make issues like ethics and disclosure and lawfirms and real estate deals and all that stuff issues, as I've said before I don't know why they'd want to go there, but I guess that's where they'll take the race."

But is Obama willing to go there?

"We're willing to draw distinctions that are honest and legitimate," Axelrod said before raising the issue of Clinton's tax returns and the records from the Clinton library.

It's going to be a long seven weeks to Pennsylvania….

Since when is stating the truth and making people think "going negative"?  I don't think those commercials did anything but say what the press should have been pointing out all along.  Obama is a great speaker, I hope he continues on his path, but he is too green, has too little foreign policy and national security experience.  You should have to do more than work as a state legislator and give speeches to earn the most powerful position in the world.  He nearly gave himself whiplash in the last debate when that question concerning Putin's successor came up, looking to Hillary so fast it was obvious he had no idea what was going on over there at all.  When answering, he did the typical...I think Hillary answered that well.  what a cop out!
Now I'm sure MSNBC and first read and others will do all they can to minimize these wins and talk more and more about the delegate count.  They've lost so much credibility with the slanted way they've reported this race, so just watch...
they'll say, she can't win enough delegates...its impossible...
well, neither can Obama!  And I have to ask...How could our party nominate a candidate who hasn't won one single big state (other than his home state)?  If democrats are that "boneheaded", they'll deserve what they get, which will be another idiot Republican in the white house.
National polls don't matter, polls rarely tell the full story when Hillary is involved...they continually underestimate her.
The facts are this...there are 2 demographics we need to win handily to win the whitehouse--women and latinos.(republicans never get the black vote)  And gee, those just happen to be Hillary's strongest backers!  Also she has also won the all important swing states!  Ohio, Florida etc!  How can democrats even think of nominating Obama.  McCain will kill him on foreign policy, will take away the independent support Obama has had once he starts bringing out Obamas very liberal votes and statements (like support in banning handguns completely...like driver's licenses for illegals etc..)
This is not to mention, that he can't handle the press when they actually--and FINALLY--get tough with him.  This week has demonstrated just how unready he is to be our president.  His first tough press conference and he got ruffled big time and scurried out early.
We need a president who knows how to fight for us and has already proven she will.  The "hardest working member of the senate" (as Hillary is called by both Republicans and democrats alike) has earned this nomination!
I finally see Hillary's health plan, she comes from behind becomes President, we realize we are doomed, we move to Canada where they have socialized medicine and we are all covered.  She's brilliant I tell you, the beeyatch is brilliant.
Its not about the Issues, its about the Mud and casting doubt. Hill will do anything to win. We now see that people are fearful as we did in 2004. The good thing is That Obama will now ruin  her. It was always that easy so now lets see who is telling the truth, who has more experience, who has tons of scandals to hide??

I think Hill and Bill have too much
I hope Obama sets aside any qualms about going negative now. It's not like he doesn't have anything to work with and he shouldn't have  to continue  fighting with one hand tied behind his back.

If Clinton is doing one thing successfully it's driving a serious wedge in the Democratic Party. She's doing this willfully,  knowing she cannot get enough delegates now, according to the math. Plus,  if her supporters would just look at her record instead of blindly accepting her claims, they might see that HER words don't match HER actions.

Here's an interesting example:
In Hillary's eight (8) years in the Senate, the Congressional Record (www.thomas.gov) shows she "sponsored" only two (2) pieces of legislation that were presented to the president for signature. The first piece of legislation (S. 1241) was to establish a historic site in New York state, the second (S. 3613) was to name a U.S. Postal Service building.

Wow, earthshattering. That along with her 8 years of spousal duties as first lady don't strike me as glowing qualifications for the presidency. I would like anyone to tell me something she has done to improve anyone's life but her own. Her 35 years of experience is nothing but a campaign soundbite.

I'm not concerned about Obama overcoming this setback. He has responded to every challenge with renewed strength and his support will not wane but only become greater. Clinton is finished. She just doesn't know it yet.

no, obama should not and i hope will not go negative. he will be playing the game hillary wants him to play. please keep things the way the have been, let hillary show who she really is, a divisive mean, person that has shown she will do any thing to get to the white house. and you people in ohio, i did canvancing for obama this last weekend and the and like some one said no wonder you loosing your jobs and houses, you stupid, bigoted, i went to one house and the woman told me, and i quote( i will never vote for a nigger) i walked away and said to my self, i hope your only son or daughter will go to war and get his or her head blown off. this is what you deserve. my wife and i went to a obama supporter house for dinner and the showed me that there are good honest people in ohio, and we have made new friends. in closing i need to ask hillary a few questions
1. where are the dam tax returns
2. when you raised the 35 million in fedruary did you pay your self back the 5 million you lent your campain with it.
3. how cam you live with your self knowing vince foster killed him self because you what you and your husband were doing with witewater
4.how many more monica are there and will bill do a another nasty thing if you get back to the white house when you out.
5. please tell me what is you experince.
6. why would you destroy the dem party for your on selfish wants.
you can have ohio, why not run for office there i'm sure they will love you there, your white, a woman, and 60.
Clinton-nites wake up!  It is about the math and your candidate acknowledged it.  Also, as far as Obama outspending Clinton in Ohio and Texas is a mute point. Only you un-educated Clinton fans could somehow find victory out of this when just two weeks ago she led both states by 20+ points.  Due to his advertising she COULD NOT capture the margins she needed.  He outspent her to bring the margins down.  He didn't loose, he did what any front runner should do.........miminize the damage.

Now that she has thrown the 'kitchen sink' what's left?  Only 1 big state left in Pennsylvania.  Please continue your bid to be President of the Big States.  We'll keep the delegate lead and win the nomination and not to mention the popular vote.

Wake up Clintons.  This thing is over and expect to hear her concede in Pennsylvania.  She may win Erie and Pittsburg but the middle of the Big State is rural.  They are amish and can care less about this race.  On the East coast there's Philadelphia, Allentown, Scranton, Hazleton, Bethelehem, and so on.  These are very diverse cities which he will carry.
Hollow "victory" for Clinton.  The delegate difference is essentially the same and she trashed her reputation in the process.

If I recall correctly, she accused and berated Obama for using tactics “that are right out of Karl Rove’s playbook,” and that is EXACTLY what she did the last two weeks.  Hypocrite.

I guess desperation will make you do anything.  She should go to YouTube and watch her husband's speech from 2004:

"Now one of Clinton’s laws of politics is this: If one candidate’s trying to scare you and the other one’s trying to get you to think, if one candidate’s appealing to your fears and the other one’s appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope." - Bill Clinton
Ah, farewell, my beloved Democratic party, you will be destroyed by the time summer arrives.....many will be sad, many will see it as an untimely demise, most will just return to the fear of yesterday......Bill and Hillary Clinton will go down in history as the most destructive political force ever to have come to power in the experiment of democracy known as the United States of America.
Obama has said we're not going to talk about the past. So, how can he bring up anything in Hilary's past? And, that sure makes his past fair game, too. Some of you always say "Bill and Hillary". If you're going to go there I guess "Barack and Michelle" is fair, too? If it goes "tit for tat" as Axelrod said, a Pandora's box of the Obamas may not contain all good things.
Wow, it is truly amazing to read all the "sour grapes" comments being posted by Obama supporters.  Face it, this is going to be a tight race to the convention.  The pledged delegate count is going to be fairly close, maybe Obama by 100-150.  Clearly no real winner based on pledged delegates.  The decision will ride on resolution of Florida/Michigan and whether super delegates truly cast their votes by exercising independent judgement as to who the best candidate is to win the general election.
What I'm afraid of is this will be just another episode of people talking good about the nice guy when he loses.  I would imagine Gary Hart, McGovern, and others such as them got the same treatment.  In the end, the nastiness prevails.  People will blame it on the bad politicians then move on.  People like Joe Bagadonitz, up there, should be doing more than complaining.  You must understand that you can do more than the less educated ones who can be played like fools and in whom racism is probably much rooted.  You who can must be proactive in order to take your government back from the corrupted politicians.  Otherwise, it will just be another year of bickering and disappointment then everyone moves on to complaint and grieve for another four or eight years.
Obama can not attack her he has ran his campaign on change not being like the insiders. Besides no one really cares about the old crap anymore bringing up what happened 8-12 years ago just doesn't matter to most of us.
Not when you have more republicans that have cheated, and have been accused of corruption.
Stick to the issues and quit being immature by calling her or people who support her names.

Its not negative when you attack the issues.
At least she has been to 2 of her senate arms committee hearing in the last year and Obama hasn't attend 1 in the year. Now who been there, thinking of this country not being Presiden.
Okay folks let's calm down.  It is going to be a long time until the convention and let's try not to destroy the chance that a Democrat will be in the White House.  I am an Obama supporter, but would vote for Hillary Clinton if she gets the nomination, only because I can't bring myself to vote for McCain who is pro-war and anti-choice, and would appoint conservative justices for any openings on the Supreme Court.  On the other side Clinton supporters who claim they will vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee, should think about a Supreme Court filled with people like Clarence Thomas overturning Roe v. Wade.  Since the nomination battle continues, as well it should, we will all continue making our arguments for our chosen candidates.  For those whose arguments are venomous, the minority that keeps post the same vile racist or sexist rants, there is little hope to change their minds let alone their souls.  For the rest I would ask everyone to consider carefully the argument that Hillary Clinton is more electable because she has already been vetted by the Republicans.  Obama has done a disservice to his campaign and the nation by taking the high road and not exposing Hillary's weaknesses that will come out in the general election.  Rezko is nothing compared to Norman Hsu (Clinton contributor now in federal custody after fleeing fraud convictions)or the Charles Keating (McCain's really bone-headed mistake).  Obama was right not to say "Monica" or "Whitewater" or "Travelgate" or etc.  That is demeaning and lowers the level of discussion.  However, it is reasonable to argue that Hillary Clinton has hidden a good deal from the public.  Does anyone think that workers in Ohio would have responded positively to the fact that since leaving office Bill Clinton has profited enormously from helping his partners to outsource jobs to India.  There is a reason that the Clinton tax returns are not available.  It is telling that early in the campaign someone in the Obama camp referred to Hillary Clinton as the "Senator from the Punjab" since she has gotten significant funds by virtue of Bill's corporate ties to the Indian subcontinent.  Obama quickly fired that campaign worker and did not pursue the basis of the allegation.  Certainly this type of characterization is wrong, just as using the term pimp in the same sentence as Chelsea Clinton.  The difference here is that Clinton's ties to the world of international business and lobbyists are relevant to her ability to be an effective leader.  I don't think the Clintons are selling their lovely daughter, but I hesitate tio think about Bill selling influence from the White House.  Don't be afraid, think about it.
I told my daughter before I left for work this morning that Hillary can't win for the losing.  Some people will die before they say something positive about her.
She didn't win because of 'dirty tricks' or 'vote manipulation', any more than Obama lost because of Resko or his unexpectedly poor handling of the Canada flub.  She won because she won and he lost because he lost.  It's a divided electorate and will most likely result in a split ticket.  Let everyone else vote and move on.
It's really funny that the people who hate her with the most (usually baseless) vitriol are actually doing her the most good.
Like McCain, she performs best when she's the underdog.  Obama not so much.  In fact, he looked downright surly last night.
Guess being out of all that rarified air and down w/ the rest of us common people isn't so much to his liking.
He'd better get used to it tho as it appears it's not even close to over.
Clinton is being supported by the Pennsylvania political machine, including Governor Rendell.   The ones who rammed through the nefarious midnight 15-54 % pay raise of 7 July 2005.   Rendell is also up to his eyballs in the emerging DeNaples / Mount Airy Lodge / Slots scandal.
Has anyone actually been listening to the republican commentators who say Hillary's ads have not only not been over the top, but just what they would want and expect their candidate to use against democrats.  That the distinctions attempting to be drawn are fair political game and they agreed w/ Hillary using them and only wondered why it took her so long to start?

All you people whining about her using unfair tactics against the Obama god better get real very quick, because if you think she is using unfair tactics against him, what does that say about his ability to withstand McCain and the republican 527s in November?
For all you Obama supporters out there give it a rest , that's politics , when you got the guts to fight back no matter how you have to do it you can win , you might say it's not fair but lets face it lifes not fair , Hillary is a fighter and always has been and that's what we need in the whitehouse  someone who has the guts to stand up to the opposition and she's proven that she has the moxie to do just that . Hillary 2008!!
Memo to Screamin' Howie Dean; I've been a Dem since I was five and backed Kennedy, against my Republican family. Running against the most unpopular president in a generation would seem to be a gift of God to the Dems, but, as usual, they---and you---are letting defeat be snatched out of the jaws of victory.  A public bloodbath right up to the primary is a sure-fire way to lose (especially if it results in the nomination of the absolutely unelectable Clinton).  You will lose much of the African American vote and an entire generation of young voters who are finally fired up about the democratic process.  If you let the Democratic Party lose in '08, I'm out.  I'll be an independent for life from that moment on, rather than stick with a bunch of shoot-themselves-in-the-foot losers like the dems.
If you have to play dirty politics to win you are pretty pathetic. So Hillary won last night but not honorably. I am proud of Obama for exercising his intellegence remarks. To the press, why jump on obama for some lies made up by the Clinton Campaign? Why don't you press on the fact of her income tax and other records that she refuses to make available? And Why don't you attack her for her campaign doation from some one is in trouble and in the courts for illegal doings? She dismisses it with, she is not going to refuse the donation because he hasn"t been proved guilty of anything yet, how self serving!!!!
When did she get so pure and holy, must have been after she and her husband disgraced the white house?
This is so disgusting!! She should hang her head in shame having to use dirt to call her self winning in three states. Like wise the press should be ashamed for jumping on the let's destroy the only one who can deliver this country from the sickening mess it is in.
"if she wants to make issues like ethics and disclosure and lawfirms and real estate deals and all that stuff issues, as I've said before I don't know why they'd want to go there, but I guess that's where they'll take the race"

jerry, corpus christi,  I guess you would enjoy that. Any anecdotes from election day down your way? Don't hear from you too much -- been busy?
Enjoy the win Clinton supporters.  You earned it.  But the race is about delegates.  The only chance Clinton has of significantly cutting into Obvama's delegate lead is to continue to go very negative.  Problem there--after repeatedly trashing Obama, most Obama supporters would not support Hillary in the General Election.  Game, set, match, Republicans.  So what's the point?
It snowed in Anaconda last night.  It snowed alot.   But, it is March and we know that spring is near.

We suffered a set back in the campaign last night, as well.  We lost three contests and the oppostion gained in delegates.

We must not respond with anger and rage.  Those are the motivations which we have been denouncing.  We can have a tough campaign, without selling out and becoming that which we oppose.  When we whine, and indulge in self pity we lose our collective soul.

The differences between the candidates will be pointed out.  Sen. Obama does not have to submit to politcal abuse and fear mongering.   But, this campaign is different.

It snowed in Anaconda last night.  It snowed alot.   But, it is March and we know that spring is near.
This to Angel and to all the other Hillary supporters who want to reiterate the LIES about Sen. Obama'a religion, patriotism or so-called anti-american stance and guilt by association. Allow me to enlighten you about thes things and what I feel will or should be Sen. Obama's responce to them.
Sen. Obama is a Christian and he was sworn in on a Bible not a Qua'ran as you all seem to believe, Hillary knows this because SHE HAS ATTENDED PRAYER BREAKFAST WITH HIM!
On the fact that he doesn't wear a flag pin on his lapel. His stated reason is he doesn't is because it is being used as a FASHION STATEMENT and that is not a true barameter of ones commitment to the USA. By the way, the last few times I saw her on TV SHE WASN'T WEARING ONE!!!! Does this mean she's a communist?
Lastly, on Sen. Obama's supposedly guilt by association ties to the UCC and the so-called ties to Min Farrakahn. well ask youself about hillary's tie to CONVICTED FELONS such as the MacDougals to see for your self at
http://www.chingadero.net/character.html

We as Americans should be ASHAMED OF OURSELVES. How can we say that we want our politicians to carry themselves with DIGNITY but then we reward the ones who conducts herself with less than honorable tactics by tacitly implying that her opponent is Muslim, by saying that his commitee has jurisdiction over a theater of operations when he doesn't. What makes matters worse is that if she really believes that he does then despite ALL HER EXPERIENCE SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW THE SENAE WORKS!!!!
I for one am SADDENED that the elections last night shows that the way to get ahead is not by being better that someone but by pulling that person lower than you are now.
I applaud the voters for exercising their right to vote for the person that they want to. However, I am wondering if those votes were for the person that we Americans really need to lead our country back to where it should be or whether it was "AGANIST" the person who is different in the way they look, present themselves, or because of their culture. I will probably get negative responses to my comments but I will take that chance. It appears, from most of the comments and even from some of the media and analyst and their guests, that most of America is still not ready to look past differences in race and culture. We seem to lean more toward negativity and dirty politics rather than wanting to come together as a nation of people that will stand for what our forefathers envisioned for this great nation. I don't believe that we will return to the status of "A Great Nation" until we decide that what is best for all is best for one and vice versa. When politicians and individuals get what they want at any cost it goes against what is good for all. Change is what America now needs more than anything and it is apparent in the way that we are responding to each other. It has been said words don't mean anything! If that is the case, why are we letting words guide our thinking? If that is the case, why do we speak them, why not just use sign language. Words cause us to think, thinking causes us to come up with ideas, ideas result in goals, goals turn into solutions.
Hillary won last night-Obama lost.Watched Obama a couple of times ---surly and whining just like the obamanoids on this site.Yes he should bring out the clinton foibles -----but do not forget he and Michelle have a lot of skeletons in their closets that can be brought out.Do you think the republicans have been sitting on their hands since Obama became into their sites?By the way ---why did Obama go to court in Ohio and have voting extended for 2 more hours?Did ithelp----also why were Hillary Clintons yard signs being trashed?
To all of the closet Hillary supporters who say that's politics with the dirty ads and inuendo, are you proud that your candidate has insulted you and the intelligence of other Americans by saying this is what the people want.  Is that what she thinks of the American public that they are stupid enough to buy anything.  I am an independent who has not completely made up my mind on who I will vote for, but I know that I will not vote for Hillary because she clearly has no respect for the American people with her tactics.  PS she actually has 37 years experience, she forgot to claim 2 years as a girl scout.
How can any thoughtful voter think HRC & her machine stand for anything but business as usual, along with a daily increase in divisiveness. Obama is clearly our only hope for doing the right thing with a breath of fresh air.
Patrick:  Indianapolis:good post.  I think that Senator Obama will now get really negative because unfortunately, it works.  There is so much to go negative on with Senator Clinton and this will further divide the party.
Dumbama:  He outspends her because he has more money-that is what you do in political campaigns-you get donations to help you in those states.
THIS IS  ONE LIFELONG DEMOCRAT THAT WILL STAY HOME ON ELECTION DAY IF HILLARY IS THE NONIMEE .  I WANT VOTE FOR THE CLINTONS BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE WITH ALL THEIR BAGGAGE.
