Obama camp claims TX delegate victory

Posted: Wednesday, March 05, 2008 5:46 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
CHICAGO -- The Obama campaign says it will win the delegate battle in Texas when the primary and caucus results are combined.

"Her primary delegate yield will be zero or it will be tied or it will be two. Our yield out of the caucuses should be seven or it could be more than that," campaign manager David Plouffe told reporters at an off-camera briefing.

Plouffe repeatedly said Clinton has lost her opportunity to erase Obama's lead in pledged delegates, which he said should be the definitive factor in deciding who is the party's nominee. Per the campaign's math, there are 611 delegates left to win in the Democratic race, and Clinton needs to win 60% of them to erase Obama's lead. And that's delegates not vote total.

"Last night was a big window that closed for them, particularly because they probably needed to net somewhere between 85 to 70 delegates to retake the pledged delegate lead," Plouffe added.

Plouffe also said that after last night's delegate totals are added in all four states, including the Texas caucuses, Clinton would have yielded a net gain that was less than what Obama took out of the state of Idaho on Feb. 5th.

Saying the math was irrefutable, he added that superdelegates would be reluctant to overturn the will of the voters. And he attempted to paint the Clinton campaign's strategy moving forward as Machiavellian.

"So the Clinton campaign strategy is going to try and run a scorched earth campaign in some way to convince the superdelegates, the party insiders and leaders to overturn the voters, which will be catastrophic for the party," he said.

Plouffe's language on Clinton, mirrored the language of Obama's other advisors today, in that it was far harsher than has been used in the past. Plouffe called Clinton "a deeply flawed candidate," who could not win the independent voters that "provide a pathway to the presidency."

Obama's campaign is expected to win handily in Wyoming and Mississippi on the 8th and the 11th, and Plouffe emphasized those states as well as the contests following Pennsylvania, rather than the primary there on April 22nd. He reiterated that it was delegates that mattered not wins in states, but he also admitted that Obama's campaign has less support in Pennsylvania than Clinton and more ground to make up.

Hilldog!!
It hurts to lose the MO!!!  Obama never had anything REAL to offer and now that people have seen him as what he is........just a politican, they are turning towards Clinton who can deliver the win for the democrats in November.  60% for the remaining races...........that's doable!!!!  Go Hillary!!!!
If all comments are to be approved first, then there is no need sending any because its only what you deem okay that will be published.
Neither Obama or Clinton really has experience but at least hes not exaggerating 35 years of it. What specific experience does she has I can care less what countries you visited and why are we visiting all of these countries when we have problems right here in our country in 35 years I heard her name when she was 1st lady investigating her cheating husband and when she was in the New York senate losing jobs for American people out there while she was racking in huge amount of money, Time to wake Hillary flip flops more than a coin flip..
This entire primary season is actually pretty silly. There is one candidate for president that got it right on Iraq - and its not Hillary Clinton.

That should be enough if you have any regard for the thousands of American soldiers, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis slaughtered in Bush, McCain and Clinton's discretionary misadventure in Iraq. Worse, for Clinton at least, it was the basest of motives. Lets see here ... fulfill our duty to the American military by voting NO on Iraq until better evidence exists, or vote YES and avoid being seen as weak on defense in a presidential bid. Hillary helped slaughter soldiers to advance a political ambition.
The Clintons disgraced the White House and this country with all the sex scandals and the impeachment for lying.
Who the hell wants some old lady in the White House that can't even satisfy her husband.

Time to close it down old Hillary. You can't catch Obama. Happy Trails Trailer Trash! :')
I wish someone would address why the Texas Caucuses were such a disaster so that people were left standing outside in the cold for hours and many caucus places were disorganized.  Why is it we hear after every Primary that "No One Expected Such a Large Turn-Out"?  Well, the rest of the known world expected it, but the Election Commissions of America never seem to get that memo. It is unforgivable to be hearing this now, after every state has had huge crowds on election day. Someone was asleep at the wheel in Texas, and it needs to be investigated.  That is true no matter who wins in the end.
Excuse me Hillary supporters. I know you are in a dream world but, If Hillary is the one to beat MCcain why is it that every single poll shows Obama beating him more handedly???? She is losing in delegates that she can't make up. Please get over yourself. She is not going to make it. What she will do is destroy the PARTY trying. Get over your racism and vote for who is winning in the polls, popular vote, delegates, number of states. That person is Barack Obama. Thanks You
GO OBAMA
hillary is playing to win. she doesnt hav america at heart.
The Clintons are the Democratic-dirty-tricks approximate of the Bush/Rove administration.  Hillary can't win fair and square so she wants to change the rules.  It makes me sick.  Finally, we have an honest man with vision for a candiate, but Hillary won't be happy until she drags Obama down in the gutter with her and destroys the Democratic chance to win the general election.  It will destroy our party if the Democratic hierarchy lets her disenfranchise the voters to manipulate an outcome that will satisfy Hillary.  Clearly the Clintons care nothing about the party, but only about themselves.  Mark my words, if her campaign continues for the next seven weeks, we won't have to worry about Nadar because Hillary will have caused us to lose the Whitehouse.
Americans open your eyes and see that hillary is leading you to the drain.she is selfish and a big political thief who fight dirty.
obama the world is watching and am watching.
all you anti hillary voters are mad because she is still in the race for the whitehouse. just don't forget about florida's and michigan voters when you tally up all those delegates!
