First thoughts: Obama, the aggressive

*** A more aggressive Obama: Yesterday, we asked how Obama would respond to his losses in Ohio and Texas. Well, he and his campaign came out swinging. Obama demanded to know what kind of commander-in-chief credentials Clinton actually has -- a question that might come up today when Clinton holds a press conference in DC with military officers. He also asked if Clinton is so fully vetted, why she hasn’t released her tax returns so voters know how the Clintons have made their money since Bill left the White House. And with Clinton arriving in Mississippi later tonight, the Obama campaign held a press conference to draw attention to some unflattering comments Clinton made about the state last fall while campaigning in Iowa. The Obama camp is showing some fight it didn’t always exhibit leading up to Junior Super Tuesday. The tightrope they have to walk is proving their mettle and drawing contrasts, but not doing so to the point where it makes Obama seem like every other politician. It isn’t an easy task. But there does seem to be a pattern in this primary season: When the negative spotlight is on one candidate, that candidate loses. The question is, when will a candidate WIN when the spotlight's on them?

*** Do-overs? So is Howard Dean deciding NOT to take a leadership role in this Michigan-Florida issue? It sure sounded like it this morning as he made the TV rounds. He punted the issue back to the states by not endorsing new contests. He chose not to use his bully pulpit and position to make any public suggestions. The DNC has said it is open to new contests, but that the ball is in Florida’s and Michigan’s court. Does this mean a Super-Duper-delegate may now have to step in since Dean won't? How about Al Gore calling for a new Florida election? Imagine what sway Gore would have on the Florida issue? Both the Michigan and Florida Dem leadership teams huddled last night to try and figure out their next step. FWIW, it appears Michigan seems a lot closer to agreeing to some sort of re-vote than Florida, which seems more content on going to the credentials committee. Perhaps Florida feels like it is better positioned since Obama's name was on the ballot there (unlike in Michigan). In Michigan, there's probably a lot of pressure being put on key Clinton-supporting Dems in the state by African-American leaders who aren't happy about having Michigan seated without Obama getting a chance to earn votes.

VIDEO: NBC Deputy Political Director Mark Murray offers his first read on the tight Democratic presidential race and talk of Michigan and Florida re-doing their primary contests.

*** Turmoil in Arlington: Despite what happened on Tuesday, don't forget that the Clinton inner circle hasn't been getting along. What does victory do to those disputes? The Washington Post runs yet another account of how Mark Penn isn’t making everyone happy inside the Arlington headquarters. We particularly enjoyed this line from the piece: "Clinton's advisers turned to their other goal: denying Mark Penn credit" for Ohio and Texas. Apparently, Penn still has the support of two very important people -- Bill and Hillary -- but outside of those two is there ANYONE else in Clinton land who even wants to tolerate Penn? This Post piece was some read; we're guessing getting the hating Mark Penn stuff back in the toothpaste tube is too late.

*** Previewing Pennsylvania: The big papers are out with their previews of Pennsylvania, a contest that is still a whopping seven weeks away. The state, as everyone points out, looks a lot like Ohio. Of course, we also though Ohio looked a lot like Wisconsin. One thing is for sure: Seven weeks is a long, long time away. In fact, the New York Daily News has dubbed the contest the “Seven-Week War.” The quick analysis from the analysis this morning: Obama's stronghold will be the Philly media market; Clinton's stronghold will be the "T" and possibly Pittsburgh. The question will be: Can Obama make some inroads in Pittsburgh? And can Hillary make some inroads in the Philly suburbs?

*** The delegate count: Obama leads Clinton 1,568-1,467. This includes the NBC News Hard Count of Obama 1,355, Clinton 1,213 in pledged delegates. The superdelegate count stands at Clinton 254, Obama 213. One thing to keep in mind is that 76 of the 795 superdelegates are still not known; they will be appointed at various state conventions beginning in April. Also, when we finally get the Texas caucus results, it likely that Clinton’s net delegate haul from the Junior Super Tuesday contests will be less than 10. There are still 46 overall unallocated pledged delegates, 33 of which are from Texas.

*** On the trail: Clinton attends a press conference in DC with military officers and then travels to Canton, MS to speak at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner there; McCain campaigns in Florida before heading to a finance event in Atlanta, GA; and Obama is down in Chicago. Also today, Bill Clinton stumps on his wife’s behalf in Wyoming.

Countdown to Wyoming: 2 days

Excuse me Hillary supporters. I know you are in a dream world but, If Hillary is the one to beat MCcain why is it that every single poll shows Obama beating him more handedly???? She is losing in delegates that she can't make up. Please get over yourself. She is not going to make it. What she will do is destroy the PARTY trying. Get over your racism and vote for who is winning in the polls, popular vote, delegates, number of states. That person is Barack Obama. Thank You
Don't look now - but Obama is winning Texas.

His caucus victory appears to be netting him 7 delegates over Clinton, while her primary victory netter her only 4, for a net gain of 3 votes for Obama.

Why, NBC, did you call the election in Texas before the caucus results, which allocate a full third of the delegates, were in?

Will you now, correctly, give Texas to Obama and take it away from Clinton?
I too wonder why the media hasn't made more people aware of Hillary's, and Clintons, shady and illegal dealings, the Peter paul trial, Norman Hsu, the Saudis, etc.... PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING !!!  The country needs you right now badly to expose the TRUTH.
The Clinton lovers bash you either way - I see it all the time.  do DO THE RIGHT THING - EXPOSE HILLARY!!  Don't let her intimidate you into being quiet.

Obama's people are right to do what they can to bring these things to light....  I never voted for a Clinton and never will.  Hillary is trying to "dumb down" our nations by making fun of good speeches - she is just bad for everyone, and poison for our country.

No to Oblabber! He is still wet behind hind his big ears!
No to McWar! We can not afford anther 100 years of war! Hey McOLD do you remember what the RED phone is for?
Pat from Boston said it well that 3 months ago we did not know Obama. The same applies today. I have listened, and given him my attention in trying to learn about him, but I am not hearing anything. Yes he rallies young people, so do a lot of people. He has a great name, and his values are admirable. He would make a great preacher as he does have the gift for oratory, but I believe that  he is  not ready to be  president, maybe further down the road. VP would be a really great learning experience. He walks on Hillary's coat tails, he agrees with her policies in most debates (after she says them), and when something is said that he finds not in his best light, he becomes a big cry baby. If that is what you want for president, than I am worried what is going to happen when one of the world's bad guys gives him bad reviews or puts him in a position that he doesn't know how to handle. I think this is a good man, but he needs seasoned.Hillary has worked hard, she has done and given to this country. She has earned her badge that says "President".
To Chuck Todd:  You are the accuracy guy— will you please get the anchors on MSNBC (e.g., T. Hall this morning at 10) to stop saying that Hillary WON Michigan when Obama was not even on the ballot?  What powers are behind that repeated misstatement?
Hillary is now Mike Huckabee in a pantsuit !!!!
The only fairy tale in this campaign is believing that two people who have already brought dishonor to the White House and the Democratic Party are the best choice to lead this nation into the future.

The "Clintons" had their chance, and they blew it. And thanks to the "nostalgia" vote, John McCain may get to be President of the United States.

If Hillary Clinton is the nominee that the Democratic Party selects, I WILL vote for her in spite of the shameless, deceitful, and many times embarassing campaign she has run.

It is interesting however to see how many of Senator Clinton's supporters claim to be "life long Democrats" who then say that they would not support Senator Obama. This makes me wonder what is the real reason for their reluctance, and it makes me question if the Democratic Party is really the best representative of my interests, or if it is just a loose federation of people who pander to certain groups to retain power.
RULES ARE RULES!  What a joke. How about 12 million ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, do the rules apply to them. The Dems seem to want to pick and choose what rules to follow. Super delegates ? In a country where every vote should count why do the individuals who are super delegates count more? Are some people "more equal" than others
I am totally depressed at all the vileness out there.
Please everyone, rational discourse is not that hard.
All these comments about Obama being evil, or Hillary being evil are unnecessary and counter-productive.  I want to hear your ideas on why you like your candidate, not slander of the one you don't.  If you want to persuade someone to support your candidate, explain why your candidate is the better one.
I am happy ot hear that the Obama campaign is finally speaking up against the "Rovian" tactics Clinton accused Obama of using! What is her great foreign policy experience- having tea with the wife of a head of state? What about her questionable land dealings that lead to a criminal investigation? Why is the media letting the Clinton campaign dictate the news cycle? Did she win Texas because she said so? The delegate count is what matters there. It should also be noted that many people in Michigan did not vote in the January primary because it was clear their votes would not count. To say that the Michigan primary should be counted as recorded is ridiculous!
Adam of N.Y-It's obviously you have no problems with NUMEROUS scandals committed for the past 7 years. I suggest you stay out of public bathrooms as you may be picked by white GOP homophobic hypocrits.
Why is the media not reporting the fact that Obama has voted for funding the Iraq war 4 times after his famous "against the war speech" while he was a state rep? At least Kucinich stayed true to his opposition to the war by not voting to keep the troops in harms way. Last I checked, Obama has helped fund $300 billion of the Iraq portion of the war. A politician truly for the troops would not have voted for funding that keeps the troops in harms way.
Pete "Hussein" for what it is worth the Florida democrats had a record turnout.
PROPOSAL TO FIX THE DEM MESS - scrap the entire current process of super delegates, proportional delegate distribution, etc....and adopt a simplified winner takes all primary system. Scrap the caucus non-sense too. It disenfranchises to many voters who can't make those long drawn out stupid bitchfests.
This week's coverage of Obama is completely lacking in journalist ethics. Clinton challenges the media to be "fair and balanced" and they follow like sheep. Giving "critical analysis" of both candidates does not mean having an equal amount of negative things to say about both candidates.  Objectivity is being self aware and transparent about your criteria for evaluation and judgment; objectivity is not giving one negative Obama story for every negative Clinton story.  Our media has become so dumbed down it is ridiculous. Objectivity is not fence sitting or giving equally beneficial coverage to all candidates. No wonder mainstream media is dying so quickly.  Obama has overcome the Clinton political machine, their public attempts to marginalize him as only a black candidate and to suggest that he is Muslim...he's over come the Limbaugh Effect, the interference of a conservative Canadian administration, racist citizen groups, attacks from every Republican candidate, widespread voter fraud (google Brooklyn or Harlem), and now baseless suggestions of corruption by the media.  He's still going to win.  This is the power of the people.  Yes WE can.
NAFTAgate was WRONGLY attibuted to Obama? EXPOSE THIS MSM!

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/03/nafta-gate-upda.html

That is was a CLINTON aid winking and nodding?  That the Clinton camp LIED and SMEARED Obama to cover their own butts?  American politics at its best.  Shame on you, Hillary Clinton!  Shame on you!
My guess is, now that the media has helped Clinton attack Obama and thoroughly enjoyed having a new story, Billary is back, the shoe will be on the other foot.  McCain is the Republican choice and there are 7 weeks to go until Pennsylvania.  The Media needs a new story.

They will cover everything anybody comes up with against Clinton,  the beef behind Hillary's claims to have experience dealing with crises, stories about any shady Clinton financial dealings, shady Clinton supporters, Bills business connections,  story of Hillary's past support for NAFTA and the bankruptcy legislation that gave banks a sweet deal and ordinary folks the shaft, etc. etc.

Obama himself will be able to get tougher but won't have to go over the line as the media will be happy to do the heavy lifting for him.

The Clintons could find starting a kitchen sink war may not have been such a great idea.  Doubtful they can find more damaging stuff on Obama than the media can find on them.
Allowing Michigan and Florida votes to count now would be a serious regression of American Civil Rights. I recognize the same spirit at play that worked to require Black voters to prove that their grandfather was a voter as condition to Black voter eligibiliy. Apparently Hillary thinks that her personal ambition for glory is more important that honesty, civil rights, or righteousness. The Republicans are happy to think that the Democratic Party is imploding, but is this good for the country? I feel fearful for our society because Americans are being distracted from the issues that matter. Our econmy is in shambles, our society is dying, families are drowning, and the the networks just like the international corporations are only too happy to sell off America for their personal buck. Wake up America!
When vote counts were so tight, she accused the state of Texas's electoral officers committed of voting irregularities. Now she has won, her vocal voice has been completely silent. I am sure if she had lost in state of Texas, she( as Yale Law graduate) would have brought a legal action for her advantage. Just like now she sees a positive sign, she wants to change the rules in the middle of the game by demanding the delegates from Michigan and Florida to be counted. Where is her leadership integrity? I hope Sen. Obama will be chosen for the party nominee. If not, even though I love the Dem party candidates, I will instead vote for Sen. McCain. Her leadership integrity is quite questionable.
