Obama camp: $55 million raised in Feb.

Posted: Thursday, March 06, 2008 2:52 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Earlier today, the Clinton campaign announced that it raised $4 million since polls closed on March 4th (and $6 million since March 1st). And then we got the number many have been waiting for -- Obama’s February total: a record breaking $55 million. Speculation had been that the Illinois senator had raised between $50 million and $60 million.

Clinton announced last week she had raised $35 million in February.

Good job, Obama!  It will take lots of funds to beat Billary and I, for one, will donate to your campaign again.

You are the best hope for this nation right now!  I will do whatever I can to ensure that Billary does not steal this nomination by trying to undermine the DNC's rules.  Rules that she agreed to, by the way.  I just wonder if she would still be trying to have re-dos and have Florida counted if she were the current front runner.

Obama/Clinton 08
The best part of this 55Million total for Obama?
Of the $45 of that raised online, over 90% were donations of $100 or less. This is the people's candidate, let's end this battle in our party and prepare to take on McCain!
I'd like to buy Patty a drink, to chill out, but I gave all the spare cash I had to Obama in Feb. Now I'll give him my spare March cash

Obama's disciples are saying they'll riot and boycott if he's "denied" the nomination.

Sen. Barack Obama’s recent suggesting that traveling to over 80 nations does not mean that Sen. Hillary Clinton have international experience. Having lived just under 18 years overseas, my wife as an officer’s wife achieved more than Sen. Obama will ever achieve should he become president. Have fought in every major war post Vietnam and numerous U.S. Embassy teams, and assigned to NATO, International, Coalition, multi-command teams, I believe that Sen. Clinton has more experience than I have. I also believe that my wife the officer’s wife has more experience than Sen. Obama and I would gladly compare her international resume as a wife to Sen. Obama as a state senator and little U.S. Senate experience.
AWESOME!  $55 Million!!!  Come on fellow HOPE-mongers, let's push March's total to at least $35 million, as Hillary plays money catch-up, while Obama plays delegate build-up!
I drafted a letter for MSM outlets. I hope my point catches on. Feel free to repost it if you like it.

Hillary Clinton has decided to open Pandora’s box and it is only fair that her actions come to an equal end for both candidates, with each afforded balanced scrutiny. By choosing to attack Barack Obama with charges regarding ethics and disclosure, I think it an appropriate time to revisit the common misperception of Hillary Clinton being vetted as a Presidential candidate. Almost every situation she was ever investigated for was through the prism of her being a First Lady. Bill Clinton was the one scrutinized like a President and in the end effect he was disbarred as an arrangement to avoid prosecution for obstruction of justice. I think it is safe to say that anything close to that in the history of a Presidential candidate would more than disqualify them from the public trust. Hillary Clinton largely escaped that type of magnifying glass by not being the main target of the investigations, but since she was in close proximity to the spotlight that was on her husband, it offers the illusion that her role in many past events has been analyzed sufficiently, whereas in truth, her role in these events has not been given the attention deserved of a Presidential candidate at this important moment in our history. It is also unfair to assume that the general public is fully aware of Hillary Clinton’s role in past investigations. It has been commonly reported that this election has brought an enormous tide of people that are actively participating in politics for the first time. Just because political pundits and party insiders are quite familiar with words like Whitewater and Cattlegate, there is a potentially enormous pool of individuals that are totally unaware of any details involved. The voters of America have a right to know as much as possible about these candidates and time passed should not excuse your dedication to informing the public with all of the available facts. Some things that may have been forgotten bear repeating and it is your duty to the people of our nation to do just that.
I believe that all MSNBC journalists should publish their federal taxes since the majority has been pro-Obama. Since MSNBC is trying to push their will on Americans and ask we that we trust their judgment, then Americans should know your financial foundation to confirm that you have not received financial benefits recently. This way the majority of the MSNBC journalist can compare MSNBC to other networks that have also been biased and anti-Clinton, MSNBC does not want to lose the little bit of the credibility that is has left.
Is Sen. Obama that naive?

Is Sen. Barack Obama truly as naïve to suggest that his two years as a U.S. Senator of which over half of his time has been getting experience as a presidential candidate truly believe that he has an inkling of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s experience? At the national levels, Sen. Clinton worked as a young lawyer on the Watergate prosecution team and years as a member of the Armed Services committee. Unlike Sen. Obama that is only a U.S. chairman only in name as proven by his not taking one action to support our troops in Afghanistan and perhaps some experience as a state senator, I gained more experience overseas than Senator Obama in my first two years as an airman in the United States Air Force post Vietnam.
Start calling Obama the come back kid after Ohio rather than Hillary. Obama raises 55 Mil in Feb., will win the Montana caucases Saturday and the Mississippi primary on Tuesday. Then he will get some delegates out of PA (might even win the State) and go on to win in North Carolina and Indiana. Let's see how the media responds then and who it is they think is really in the drivers seat.
Are you going to make any mention of that fact that it was the Clinton campaign talking to the Canadians about NAFTA or just ignore that too?  Check out the Globe and Mail out of Toronto for some insight.
Before all the standard Obama haters copy and paste their blithering babble on here, I wanted to say congratulations to Senator Obama.

I know you have a fine tight-rope to walk between maintaining a new type of campaign based on Hope and Change and being drawn into critical (I don't like the term negative) campaigning because that is what it seems people are responding to, instead of focusing not only what you and Senator Clinton are proposing (rather similar), but also "how" you both focus on doing it, which is where I think you're greatest strengths lie.  Anyone who can get the Illinois police departments to support legislation for videotaping police interrogations and confessions and can also get Congress to support ethics reform tells me that Senator Obama has a way of getting people who would initially be opposed to his ideas to work with him in a constructive way to build the right solutions.  This is what America needs!!!

Peace and Blessings
Well that makes one thing clear.  Americans are standing up and digging deep into their pockets to support the guy who is going to change America.  I think this is one more reason Hillary and Bill should go far away and spend their millions of overseas money on things such as land deals in Arkansas.
I feel another Hillary and Bill $5 to $10 million campaign loan coming up!  Yeehaww!  More donuts, shrimp trays, and Mark Penn fees!
I hope he raises twice as much in March and every month thereafter.  Never has there been a better cause than the candidacy of Barack Obama for President of the United States.  Whatever I can scrape together I'll cheerfully give to his campaign.  Every time I read about what he says and does makes my opinion of him rise.  We need this man as our country's leader.  And if Hillary wants to be his Veep, I guess it's okay.  But she'd better be a help to him and not get in his way; she might learn something.
Dredbear from Texas
This announcement should be on MSNBC's main page in the headlines, just like you put in the headlines Hillary's earnings. Let's be fair MSNBC!
I hope obama wins the democratic convention....If hillary wins the nomination I feel it would be a great injustice to all the young who have voted this year....and their faith will be lost in the democratic process....
Hey guys can we get a Super delegate count update...I understand Obama got 3 more today.  Didn't he get 3 yesterday.   Is this the slow squeeze out
Guess what - the night after OH loss (and TX WIN!) was his best night EVER!
Do we have a list of Obama providers?Did he give the money from Ayers back? where is his 2005,2006 earmarks? He did give 2007 what happened to the others?Has anyone seen his tax returns for the time the house was bought? How much has his church given his campaign?Do they have to show where it all comes from? Are they allowed to bundel?Word was Farrakhan gave through his church.Where would we find out about that?People like Opera are they allowed to give only certain amount?I think this is all good for people to learn.Good way to bring people into the process.Any Ideas?? thanks
I knew it would be just a matter of time that the scandles would begin to surface.  Go ahead vote Sen Clinton in office and your favorite shows on television will be pulled to follow the great Senator Clinton Trail.

$55 million dollars. Unbelievable.  This is a true movement.  Just a couple of weeks ago, the Clinton's reported they needed to win Ohio and Texas by wide margins. Now that they have slipped by with little delegates to show for it, I just don't see why we should continue this.  Numerous sources have reported that it is impossible for the Clintons to catch up with Obama. Is Hillary competing to force Barack Obama to take her as his Vice President?
so why didn't the campaign announce these numbers earlier?
wooo hoooo... We loving this.. Go Obama.. we will continue to support all the way...

Obama 08
Go Obama!!!  Those are great numbers.  I've just chipped in for March.  Can we have a fundraiser to help Michigan with a re-do election?  I'd love to see Michigan delegates count towards an Obama victory!!

New Clinton camp spin contradicts old Clinton camp spin

As we've noted more than once, the Clinton campaign's spin about the state of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, and the keys to victory, tends to shift dramatically along with changes in Hillary Clinton's position in that race. On Wednesday, Clinton advisors Harold Ickes and Mark Penn provided yet another example of this phenomenon.

In "The Path to the Presidency," a memo Ickes and Penn coauthored, the two say, right out of the gate, "With last night’s victories in Ohio and Texas, one thing is clear: the momentum has swung back to Hillary Clinton."

That's funny. We could have sworn that on Feb. 13, Penn wrote another memo. And in that memo -- which Barack Obama's campaign is being sure to remind reporters of -- Penn had a decidedly different take on things. Back then, Penn argued, "Again and again, this race has shown that it is voters and delegates who matter, not the pundits or perceived 'momentum.'"
...'

With this amount of resources at his disposal - Democrats would be insane to choose Hillary.
Gee all that money and all those paid workers and they could not win! They out moneyed the BIG, BAD, CLINTON MACHINE and they LOST!!!
Wow! Once you get on to the national scene you don't need to do favors for and depend on people like Tony Rezco to raise you money anymore. Isn' that wonderful? I sure hope Michelle Obama is finally proud to be an American. It is sure difficult to play the victim when your husband raises $55,000,000 in a month. Hopefully Brack's buddy Mr. Ayers won't need to bomb any more federal locations or the pentegon with all of this money coming in for his freind. Isn't it great!!! These people don't need to act like atention seeking victims anymore. Once they have the power, they can just impose their beliefs and morality on the rest of the country and world.

Ok FIrst Read, I have tried to post a comment THREE times today and non of my comments have shown up.  I thought this was a PUBLIC FORUM.  Not ONE of my comments have been inappropriate.  PLEASE don't sensor-FREE SPEECH!!!

Now, everyone just calm down.  Yes, the Clintons have put out some pretty outlandish claims today.  We all know how they are.  But lets just sit back and continue to let them make a$$e$ of themselves.  We all know that it has been PROVEN time and time again, that she CANNOT win because she WILL NEVER have the lead on pledged delegates.  No amount of spin, lies or FILTH coming from the CLintons can change that.  Her only hope, changing the rules and having Florida and Michigan delegates seated has been thrown out the window by Dean and the DNC. Do overs may take place, but this will not change ANYTHING. Obama will still also gain delegates and she will NEVER be able to get the lead.  The supers know this, as well as the party elders.  That is why 4 supers have endorsed Obama in the last two day. They have a plan to come out little by little over the next two weeks and after Obama wins Mississipi and Wyoming, this entire thing will be over.  They are just letting Hillary have one last"moment".

I am sure that she will continue her disrespectful behavior, but who cares.  She has already lost.  She is only making herself look more desperate, devisive and silly.  I think it's GREAT!!

OBAMA 08'
p.s.  Hey Hillary supporters, it's funny how Hillary continues to ask for money and donations, when she knows that she cannot win.  She is just cheating you out of your hard earned money. You may ask her why?
oh yeah, she probably wants to pay herself back for that 5 mill she loaned herself!  Guess she doesn't really care about you after all!

From Salon.com:

'...Can the Clinton campaign take the heat?

They say irony is dead, but Hillary Clinton's campaign may be on a mission to prove that wrong. In a memo today, the Clinton camp went negative on Barack Obama for, yes, going negative on Clinton. "Senator Obama lost Ohio and Texas because voters had doubts about his ability to serve as Commander-in-Chief and steward of the economy. But instead of addressing those concerns, how is Senator Obama responding? By attacking Senator Clinton," the memo reads.

"With one of his top foreign policy advisers acknowledging yesterday that he is not ready to take the 3am call and one of his principal supporters in Texas unable to name a single legislative accomplishment, Senator Obama's time would be better spent making the case for why he can do the most important job in the world just three years out of the state senate."

(The full memo can be read after the jump.)

Forget the inherent internal contradictions here; the Clinton campaign hasn't made any secret of its negative campaigning strategy over recent days. As a colleague observed -- correctly, we think -- the memo is sort of like starting a fight, then complaining when the other guy hits you back.

The Clinton camp's messaging bled over into a conference call, when Communications Director Howard Wolfson, repeating an allegation from the memo, compared Obama to Whitewater investigator Ken Starr. "When Senator Obama was confronted with questions over whether he was ready to be Commander-in-Chief and steward of the economy, he chose not to address those questions, but to attack Senator Clinton," Wolfson said, according to the Politico's Ben Smith. "I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president."

The Obama campaign has already responded. In a statement, spokesman Bill Burton said,

It is absurd that after weeks of badgering the media to 'vet' Senator Obama, the Clinton campaign believes that they should be held to an entirely different standard. We don't believe that expecting candidates for the presidency to disclose their tax returns somehow constitutes Ken Starr-tactics, but the kind of transparency and accountability that Americans are looking for and that's been missing in Washington for far too long. And if Senator Clinton doesn't think that the Republicans will ask these very same questions, then she's not as ready to go toe-to-toe with John McCain as she claims....'
Yes! Way to go. This is awesome. What a show of unity and positive innvestment in the future. While the others are bickering and scheming we are working together to accomplish a new vision for our nation. Keep up the good work!
After Clinton claiming she and McCain have experience and Obama does not. Here is a little research on the accomplishment of both in the Senate. The media has not been the best source of info on both sides. Any Hill complaining about the media is an old sport trick of working the ref - which only makes the ref much worse by compensating. Find out yourselves if this is true:

In 2 years as a Senator, Obama authored 113 bills - Hillary: 153 in 6 years

some sources:
website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov. its really easy to search by Senator
very interesting article by someone who did some due diligence: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633

This will sound crazy to some Obama supporters, but I'd almost rather see Barack do "the best thing for the party" and walk away from the race before letting a battle with Hillary tear the party apart.  Let the DNC and superdelegates figure out what they can do with an badly damaged party, millions of new young disappointed voters, the evaporation of enthusiastic support (both physical and monetary), and a candidate who all polls show would not win against McCain.
Not only has he raised more money, but I can't keep up with all the super-delegates that have endorsed him since the Tuesday primaries. Please give us another update soon.
What a surpise! Obama announces this just TWO DAYS after his massive failure on Super Tuesday Jr.  Even outspending HRC 2-1 in most states (read: OH,TX,RI), Clinton pulled off impressive victories.
It wouldn't be that BO was saving these numbers for when he was hurting? OR that he knew he was going to be hurting?
Obama is no politician of the future. This is politics at its best, and he is nothing but another old, tricky politician. The only "change" he's offering is changing his friends (wouldn't want to be associated with Rezko), changing his stances (sorry Canada, we didn't really mean it) and changing his story (well, maybe I won't take that publicly funded campaign money).
People, smell the coffee. Obama is no more a decent politician than anyone else. His spin machine has been saving these numbers, and electing him would be a HUGE risk and chance.
Not quite 2 to 1 so Hillary will take Pennsylvania and Indiana he outspent her 2 to 1 in Texas and Ohio. First read if I have been Blacklisted please stand up and say so and I will go to a Grownup blog I haven't been posted since January.
Media Cover-Ups

Ditto for the failure of the press to link up Paul's allegations with the documentation and testimony presented in the Rosen case, where evidence appears undisputed that Hillary Clinton and her 2000 Senate campaign machine violated the law and perhaps broke some criminal statutes as well.

Sadly, the public may not ever get the chance to find out unless the press does its job and reports with equal treatment the case(s) against Hillary Clinton as fully as it seems determined to report on the case(s) against Tom DeLay. Given that Hillary Clinton appears headed to a presidential run, the public deserves to know before the heat of a White House battle what's been going on.

That's one reason the public so distrusts the press, bias aside. Too much gets dumped on them during political contests that smacks of political manipulations. Maybe if the press were to do its job evenly throughout each year then the public might feel better about an industry now seen as having an agenda. And, it seems, it's not the public's interest.

I find this interesting. Obama leads in money, popular votes, states. From the times he lost in Ohio and Texas, one would have thot he would lose superdelegates. to the contrary, he is gaining about 3 per day! So, who is the Dem nominee? Obama 08!!
I'm going back to donate more to Obama - He's going to need it if Hillary continues her negative (and, incidentally, false) attacks.

And it should be mentioned that most of this money came in donations of $100 or less from ordinary Americans.  Senator Clinton's money is coming from special interest lobbyists (including the defense industry, which has given more to Senator Clinton than they've given to any Republican candidate).  There's a big difference there.
Three-quarters of online donors in February were first-time contributors, and more than a third of those individuals went on to engage in volunteer activity coordinated through the campaign’s Web site.

One only wonders how dumb Clinton supporters are to vote for her, since she doesn't have the will of the people.
Please report about how the Clinton campaign was the one that contacted the Canadian government about them not being serious about  NAFTA reform!!!!!

This needs to be reported!
way to go Obama!
Well heck man...if so many "little people" are donating why do they need mortgage giveaways and free money from the taxpayers as economic stimulus? How can the same people crying poormouth have an extra 55 million laying around..I don't get it
Fantastic! Congratulations, Mr. President.
Yes, We Can. Si, Se Puede!
