Obama gains more supers

Posted: Thursday, March 06, 2008 4:55 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Obama gained two more superdelegates today -- NV State Party Vice Chairwoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson and Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV).

This brings the delegate total to: Obama 1,581-Clinton 1,481

Superdelegates: Clinton 254-Obama 215

NBC Hard Count: Obama 1,366-Clinton 1,227

There are 21 delegates unallocated, including 10 in Texas, 9 in Colorado, 1 in Hawaii and 1 Abroad.

Here's the March 4th breakdown:
TX: Clinton 92-91 (+1 for Clinton, with 10 delegates from the caucuses still unallocated)
OH: Clinton 75-66 (+9 for Clinton)
RI: Clinton 13-8 (+5 for Clinton)
VT: Obama 9-6 (+3 for Obama)

This gives Clinton a +12 net delegate gain out of March 4th and could be trimmed slightly because of those TX caucuses delegates still to be allocated.

*** UPDATE *** The Obama campaign also sent out a release today on gaining the support of Vermont Party Chairman Ian Carleton, but we already had him factored in, as he was on a list provided to us previously by the campaign.

In addition to tracking the number of superdelegates who have indicated a preference for Clinton or Obama, it would be useful to identify from each campaign the following: (1) how many come from states the candidate won (primary or caucus), (2) how many come from states the candidate lost (primary or caucus), and (3) how many come of states yet to be decided (primary or caucus).

Two of the most commonly known superdelegates are Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. Clinton won Massachusetts, but Kennedy and Kerry are supporting Obama. Often we hear superdelegates should reflect the voters from their States. The only way Kennedy and Kerry can justify their position is to claim superdelegates have the right to make up their own minds regardless of voter sentiment. If that is so, why does there remain so much pressure for Clinton to get out?

The Democratic nominee, by party rules, will be chosen by superdelegates in 2008 if neither candidate is able to get enough "pledged" delegates. After 2008, the Democratic Party must revisit the McGovern commission rules, adopted after the 1968 convention. They are no longer justifiable or relevant in our Internet/24-hour news and commentary world. At the very least, the number and influence of superdelegates must be substantially reduced!
It looks like Obama's "slim" 100+ delegate lead is actually a large one when you consider that Hillary only nets 12 delegates after 4 states vote.
55 million dollars doesn't buy much now adays does it?
Ok, here it goes.  Here we have Two Democrats, Hillary and Obama, competing against each other.  Democrats, yes democrats, who I noticed have a tendency to vote for-- guess which party--that is right—Democrats. Now, stay with my reasoning here; I will not go too fast for you, ok. Since the “Democrats” are voting for “Democratic Presidential Nominees” is it just possible, even plausible, and down right probable, that the “Democrats” will vote for a “DEMOCRAT” during the general election! Furthermore, and I will try not to get too complex here, since the “Democrats” have been turning out in record numbers to vote or Hillary or Obama (both of which are: democrats,) isn’t it probable that they will vote for a “DEMOCRATIC” candidate!  Now comes the “tricky part.”  Doesn’t this simply, and I mean very simple, basic logic suggest that Hillary’s argument that she can win the “Big Blue States” against another “DEMOCRAT” become meaningless?  And finally, since Barrack Obama seems to be able to draw in independents better than Hillary, wouldn't he be (and I’m just spit balling here) A MORE ELECT ABLE  PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE—since he is leading in the popular vote and in pledged delegates that represent the will of the American People.  Oh, rest assure, we Democrats will prevail because somewhere, I once read, yes,  that’s’ it---A government for the people—by the people---Yes, yes They must have been talking about the “Super Delegates.”   Not.
Lets face the facts Clintons big wins on Mar 4th only netted her 12 delegates and Obama made a good point that after tonights Clintons wins the delegate count would be the same as before! Who are we fooling? Clinton can not win and Obama will remain the leader in delegates going into the convention and realistically the democratic party is beign hurt and only giving ammo to the republicans. Look I know this was Clintons year and I agree she is a fighter and I respect that but the Obamas grassroot movement swept America and inspired millions like JFK. History will be made this year and I hope Hillary puts her pride and ego aside and puts her party and America first in order to succeed in the November elections.
What's the big deal about 3 out of 4 when she only picks up 12 delegates.  Clinton will do anything to win the primary and then get smoked in the general, way to be leader !!
The Clinton party is desperate. This is the ONLY reason they are arguing about Florida and Michigan! As a kid, we stuck to the sandlot rules much much better. The rules shouldn't be changed just because you think you are going to lose. If they do, I'M OUT on the Democrats! SHAME ON YOU HILLARY! YOU ARE A SORE LOSER!
whoa, Please do not leave out Vermont Democratic Party Chair Ian Carleton. 2+1=      3

Finally someone speaks a complete truth ....Hillary really IS a monster. The divisiveness, lies, scandals, innuendos, playing the race card, tax fraud, illegal deals. How could anyone want such a crybaby loudmouth like her as a President?
I urge Clinton's supporters will vote for McCain if the Obama's supporters still go NEGATIVE with Clinton.

I DON'T SEE WHY Clinton's supporter will vote for Obama becuase THEY DON'T LIKE YOU!!!

Hillary should run in the Republican race if she wants "winner take all" rules.  This is the Democratic party.  Rules are rules.  This goes for Michigan and Florida, too.  Deal with it.
I keep hearing things about a fraud case involving the Clintons in CA going on right now. Does anyone know anything about it?
Simple math.  Obama needs to win one of the three remaining big states, PA, MI, or FL.  If he doesn't then the pledged delegates and popular vote will be close enough that super delegates will turn to Hillary and her strength in winning big states that were lost in 2004; OH, TX and FL.
It ain't over yet.  Obama folks, let the states (people)speak!  He got his butt kicked so stop crying like Obamababies!
There remains 1 unallocated add-on delegate in Rhode Island which will be assigned by voice vote on June 19th at the RI DNC party meeting.
My GOD American Fools! Wake UP! Google "OHIO cross voters" and see if you can figure out how Hillbilly "WON" in Ohio. Could it possibly BE that tens of thousands of the Limbaugh Braindead party faithful  deliberately voted across R-party lines (see Ohio state law and SoS Brunner on the legal issues) to prop up Hillbilly's "easy to beat" status against McCain???
Howie, Ron, Supers, DNC, DEMS at large, SURE!, go ahead, support her "R-JOKE" nomination, and what happens when all those fat, laughing, well-discipined (the deliberate crooked voters, not you good guys out there...) Rush "Republican" RNC-Kool-Aid voters violate Ohio law by RE-crossing BACK to "R-land", and pull the Diebold trigger for Old "100 Years War" John in November?
LANDSLIDE! For McCain. Becasue NO ONE is gonna vote for HILLARY in a general election. How Long, Oh Lord, How Long, before you dumbass, self-destructive  democrats figure out the R-Enemy is AGAIN playing you for the fools you are? Anyone that continues to support the Hillbillys is ASSURING another massive Dem loss in NOVEMBER...against EASILY the weakest candidate, the crookedest, failed Right Wing fanatic Republican policy regime since ???? WHEN? ...NONE!!!! BUSH-Cheney-Exxon-Mobile IS the most crooked, senseless war-mongering, fraudulent, Constitution busting administration failure in US History!
So, sure, vote for Hillary. One of two reasons: 1: She's a WOMAN? Well, that's just plain sexist, isn't it? OR, 2. She IS beatable. THOSE are the ONLY qualifiers.
This IS America, and here in America, we get EXACTLY the type of government we DESERVE. No? Take another long look at the International Disgrace stinking up OUR White House because his Fixers FIXED the voting networks and the US Supreme Court, if anyone needs another grim reminder of just how screwed up WE have let this country get.
Would the insider Republican Right faithfuls ever go so far as to actually vote DEMOCRAT if they really thought HILLBILLY was gonna win? Think about it. They are DEADLY, VICIOUS, LOOSERS facing moral & political extinction. They are NOT going to go quietly into the night. They are trying to spawn, to birth "HILLBILLY" to carry on the Party Evil and "Deliver the Vote for  JEB" in 2012.  Hell, YES! I can't wait! BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH. Let's go  for Thirty years! It's been working 'just perfect' for America's taxpayers and voters so far.
