First thoughts: How ugly can it get?

*** How ugly can it get? Doesn't the Clinton campaign want a knife fight? Just as David Brooks notes today, if it drags Obama down to trench warfare, then he loses his place on the nice-guy pedestal. So perhaps it wasn’t surprising that the Clinton camp accused Obama’s team yesterday of acting like Ken Starr, as it began raising legitimate questions about Clinton’s tax records and her actual national security experience. But the Obama folks returned the fire when key adviser Samantha Power called Hillary Clinton a “monster” in an interview with The Scotsman, which was then amplified by Drudge. Power immediately apologized. No doubt that these two campaigns don’t like each other, and as the Clinton-Obama race has gone on for 13-plus months, the campaigns and their candidates are bound to let their frustrations out (remember that Myrtle Beach debate?). But as Brooks points out, Obama -- with both his delegate lead and his politics of hope -- does have more to lose as things get ugly.

*** The cowboy way: With Saturday’s Wyoming caucuses and then Mississippi’s primary three days later, Obama has the opportunity to cut into -- or erase -- the delegates that Clinton gained on Junior Super Tuesday. At stake in Wyoming are 12 pledged delegates, and the majority of caucus sites open at either 11:00 am ET or noon ET; the latest sites open at 6:00 pm ET (Teton County). Presidential preference votes will be held about 12 minutes into the caucuses, right after Clinton and Obama are “nominated,” “seconded” and two- to- three-minute appeals arguments are made for each candidate. The way the caucuses work, though, varies. Some counties do divisions like in Iowa but without realignments or thresholds. Others use ballots.

*** PA vs. NC: Speaking of upcoming contests, the press has completely bought into Pennsylvania as the next big contest. But there's another very large delegate prize two weeks later -- North Carolina. What's interesting about the two states is that one is a Clinton stronghold (PA) and one is an Obama stronghold (NC). Both campaigns are trying to downplay the other state, but shouldn’t we be judging the two together? Who performs better on the other's turf? The two states represent two different theories of the general election the two campaigns are pushing forward. Clinton's campaign is basically saying they'll use the Gore-Kerry map and get to 270 (win OH or FL). Obama's saying he'll create a new map with states like North Carolina being put in play. This will be the ultimate decision of the superdelegates -- which path do they want the party to go on? Eugene Robinson also makes this good point today: "But it's an odd kind of momentum that we're being asked to appreciate. Apparently, the contests in Wyoming and Mississippi won't count if Obama wins them, because that's what everyone expects. The April 22 primary in Pennsylvania will definitely count if Clinton wins, however, even though that's what everyone expects. To paraphrase Orwell, some states are more equal than others."

*** A compromise for Michigan? The big papers today are flush with stories about what to do with Florida and Michigan. A top Democrat in Michigan tells NBC’s Andrea Mitchell that both campaigns are communicating through Michigan party leaders and zeroing in on a plan for so-called "firehouse caucuses" or caucus-primaries in May or June to redo the Michigan voting. Democrats in Michigan say they have a tradition of voting this way in the past. And since people come to firehouses, vote and leave in a closed way, it would not violate Hillary Clinton's opposition to traditional caucuses where people have only a set time to show up and openly discuss their preferences. But how does the state get around Gov. Granholm's objection that Michigan taxpayers foot the bill? Per Mitchell, sources say the candidates would be asked to raise the money, and there is no legal obstacle to them finding private funds for the redo. If Michigan does agree to a redo -- and because Obama's name wasn't on the ballot before, it's probably a given it will -- what kind of pressure will Florida feel to follow suit?

*** The DNC’s money woes: One reason why we shouldn’t expect the DNC to foot the bill for do-overs in Florida and Michigan? It doesn’t have that much money. As the New York Times writes, the DNC “ended 2007 nearly flat broke, with cash of $2.9 million and debts of $2.2 million. Since then it has raised some money, paid down debt and managed to put $3.7 million in its piggy bank. This compares, however, with $25 million that the Republican National Committee has in cash on hand, after having raised $97 million since the beginning of 2007.” With the Clinton-Obama race perhaps going on until the convention, the DNC will have to be the principle vehicle to take on McCain, and so it will need every cent it has. The lack of money for the DNC is a real head-scratcher. Check out how flush the DSCC and the DCCC are, as well as the two presidential candidates. Why can't the DNC raise any money? It's mind-boggling, frankly, and the only thing keeping the GOP in the game financially. Meanwhile, McCain's putting his imprint on the RNC by naming three finance operatives and one political operative.

*** On the trail: Clinton campaigns in Mississippi before heading to Wyoming, where she visits Cheyenne and Casper; McCain stumps in Georgia and then raises money in New Orleans and Phoenix; and Obama, in Wyoming holds a town hall in Casper and an evening rally in Laramie. Also, Bill Clinton lays the groundwork in Pennsylvania with two stops there before going to Mississippi.

Countdown to Wyoming: 1 day
Countdown to Mississippi: 4 days
Countdown to Pennsylvania: 46 days
Countdown to Election Day 2008: 242 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 319 days

I present to you President Obama and Vice President................ Find out here!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPev5sEdTjg
I am still at a loss for how Hillary gets away with the ‘experience’ line. I also cannot understand why this hasn’t been blown out of the water by any opponent yet. Does anyone have a suggestion for the Obama campaign to use to combat this fallacy? Once and for all, I would like to see this line completely discredited. As for the 3:00 AM call, I think the effects of this have worn off, and the attacks back against it have worked effectively.

I heard a TV pundit the other night say he always knew Senator Obama could take a punch, but could he throw one? She’s making it hard for him to stay on the high road all this time; but wouldn’t you once love to see him go off on her and put her in her place once and for all? The longer this goes on, the more we want to see her completely rejected.

Has anyone sat down with her to go over an exit strategy? If all of this comes crashing down, either loss of nomination or the general election, what will she have left? She will be an outcast in the Senate, and her effectiveness will be diminished to the point of non-existence. I don’t know if she has thought out the rest of her life, but on her current path, it is not rosy. What say you?

Have a nice weekend everyone.
Superdelegates, where are you? Are you just going to sit on the sidelines watching while your party self-destructs? You realize, don’t you, that the rest of the primary season is all for your benefit? Hillary can’t catch Barack now in delegates, although she still has a long shot at catching him in the popular vote total. But so what? Fine, say we spot her a ten point win in Pennsylvania and we redo Florida and Michigan and she wins big enough to edge Barack out in the popular vote total. What can you possibly gain in terms of additional information about the candidates and their supporters that would make it worth the cost to the party and our ultimate nominee?

The arguments from both sides will still be essentially the same. The only difference come August will be that we sent two strong gladiators into the arena for your edification and one badly wounded nominee came limping out. It’s time for you move. This is an internal party decision here. We are under no obligation whatsoever to go through with the rest of an increasingly divisive primary season with all the wasted resources it will entail. Not just wasted, but invested in attack politics that will surely come back to haunt us in November.

The argument that many voters have yet to be heard is specious, at best. This is not the general election. When the primary process goes smoothly we have no problem leaving all kinds of voters without a real say in the outcome. It’s only in the really difficult years that we have to go this deep. This is all about picking the best nominee for the race in November while trying to do as little damage as possible getting there. It’s time for you to move.

Convene your own mini-convention if you must, and have the two campaigns present their best arguments as to why each will be the best nominee for the party. Do whatever it takes to come as close to a consensus as you can, and then move in a block to make it clear to all parties that this phase of the contest is over. The last thing we want to do is listen to all the breathless media hype. They have a powerful vested interest in keeping this primary season going. Conflict is great for ratings, but it will send entirely the wrong message to the rest of the country about us and our candidates. Let’s try and do the smart thing for a change and keep our nominee in decent shape going into the campaign against John McCain. It’s all up to you now, supers. Move!
What do Rhode Island, Vermont, Democrats Abroad, Hawaii, District of Columbia, Nebraska, Minnesota, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Delaware, North Dakota, Idaho and Alaska have in common with Florida?

Answer Sen. Obama got less votes in all those 14 contests than Sen. Clinton received in Florida.
All we can do now is sit back and look with amusement at the Hillary Clinton campaign. If anyone cannot see through them at this point, then we are in big trouble - again. They are unprofessional, they are liars, they are bullies.

And you wonder why this country is rooting for Barack Obama.
You wonder why he is raising so much money.
You wonder why “change” has taken hold in this country.
You wonder why respect for the Clintons is slowly eroding, week in, week out.

Sit back everyone and listen and watch carefully to what the Clinton campaign does to smear Barack Obama in the upcoming months.

As Margaret Carlson said last night on Countdown, if Hillary isn’t going to be the next President, she’ll be damned if it’s Barack Obama, a fellow Democrat. Lovely.

Sit back - watch, listen and then vote. For Barack Obama.

Obama/Webb 2008
40 more days until "the Clintons" release their tax returns . . .

(There must be more documents that needed shredding than they thought.)
If you'd like us to be keeping NC in mind ... where's the countdown to NC?
hillary can not win, all she can do is divide the party, like I have said before, hillary's campaign is no longer about winning the presidency, it is all about making sure no democrat wins since it won't be her, a more shallow and empty soul you will never find
Obama will defend himself and his character. We have enough ground people in Philly to fight for him. I will not let someone tell me that because they feel entitled to be President that they will drag Obama down.

Hillary feels that MCcain should win if she cannot beat Obama, that is a vicious self-serving statement. Rendell believes that white people in Philly will never vote for a black man, that statement is even more sickening.

Obama "08"
why are all the states with a large black population called for Obama?Just curious. All women are not considered Hillary voters---why the descrepancy?
Hello Democrat08, Florida! Let's have a real campaign in FL and let the voters decide! You should talk to your Governor and see if he'll fix Florida's mistake.
Repeat after me:

THOMAS TAYLOR...THOMAS TAYLOR!

He's the child rapist that Hillary defended when she was a laywer:

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ny-usark245589997feb24,0,2670956.story

Hillary wants to bring up Rezko? I say...let's bring up THOMAS TAYLOR!

And Norman Hsu, and Peter Paul, and Marc Rich, and Whitewater, and cattle futures, and Travelgate, and Sant Chatwal, and Charlie Trie, and John Huang, and James Riady, and Johnny Chung, and Roger Tamraz, and Ron Burkle, and Vince Foster, and...
Why won’t Hillary make her tax returns public? How about the 2006 Tax Returns at least then? The answer is simple—the money is dirty. You will see Dubai and countless other unsavory contributions from some questionable foreign excursions by Fmr. Pres. Clinton. Clinton supporters, is that really ok? Do you really want the specter of foreign influences hanging over the presidency?

Hillary has the endorsements of a ton of flag officers (generals) and has claimed to have crossed some imaginary threshhold for Commander-in-Chief. For those who may not know, general or general equivalent (admiral) is the only rank that can only be achieved with the recommendation of the President and an act of Congress. Colonel is as high as you can go without the Commander-in-Chief’s endorsement. The President has to make the recommendation and then the 100 members of the Senate have to approve it in order to make general. Now use your brains and figure out under whose admistration that the majority of these generals were commissioned. Pres. Clinton called in a favor and of course these generals have no problem in standing behind the wife of the man who advanced their careers. Don’t take my word for it, look it up and see the truth for yourselves, Clinton supporters. Instead why don’t you look at the enlisted men and the retired enlisted men and ask them who they support to be the Commander-in-Chief? Barack wins that argument hands down. Go to your nearest military installation or follow the campaign contributions.

Why have Hillary’s Whitehouse records been sealed and buried? The answer here is very simple. Bill didn’t give her credit for many of the things that she is now falsely claiming and there was NO co-presidency. Sen. Clinton had NO security clearance and is misstating her record there. She has made claims of having something to do with the Irish peace process and other platitudes. Not true. Sure she has had dinner with Jerry Andrews and some of SEINFENN but her diplomatic role there is non-existent. Again, just do your research.
I welcome anyone to dispute these statements. Eventually the truth always comes to light.
I wrote a longer posting down below under Knife Fight which is posted. So I won't reiterate that.

Instead I find I am at a tipping point. I am perilously close to not voting for Clinton at all at this point. All of this is the straw breaking the camel's back for me. Yes, I'm just one voter but I have been a Democrat my whole life.

What does an American have to do to vote against nastiness, and negative campaigning, and machine politics, and a divisive campaign and a candidate who will stop at nothing to win (I specifically added more on that point below).

I have always voted but this is not what I want.

I am perilously close to leaving the Democratic party as long as the Clinton's are involved.

Yes, I'm one vote, but I'm a lifelong Dem who has certainly supported the Clintons in the past. I supported Hillary as late as late January.

I truly can't take it any more.

I am not sure whether (if Hillary is the nominee) I will vote Repub., I will write in Obama or Edwards (if one can write-in), or if I will just not vote (which I really don't want to do).

How best to send the message that I won't stand for it anymore?
First, comparing someone to Ken Starr is insulting only to the Clintons who were his target. Calling someone a monster is, or should be, insulting to everyone. Barack Obama likes to talk about good judgement at 3AM as a cornerstone of his campaign. Hillary Clinton has already fired a handful of top advisers for much less. And she didn't wait days to do it. When is Barack Obama going to fire this advisor? I wouldn't compare Barack Obama to Dubbya under any circumstances, but I have to confess his waffling on this brought up the image of Dubbya sitting in the classroom for 7 long minutes while the USA was under attack.
Maybe the DNC doesn't have any money because Gov. Dean has been spending what has been raised to build up state party operations that were completely ignored during the Clinton years.
i love this campaign and i love Hillary Clinton ..she is a fighter and she will win it all
Is certainly is not a surprise that the Democrats are broke. They really don't know how to manage money very well.
All we can do now is sit back and watch Obama dodge any direct questions asked by the media and the press. This must be Hillarys fault also.Isn't everything that happens to both the Obamas her fault?Michelle shoots her angry mouth off and this just fine---now now we must not be act racist to Michelle--we already knows how she feels about that. When she made the statement you better vote for my husband now because we are not going through this again I felt queasy. She is too threatening. She too as accumulated personal wealth from being married to Obama---I do not this woman ruling over me---Ophra made a mistake and has lost a large part of her audience since proclaiming Obama "the one".
Just a quote or two from

"From Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"

Saunders: I see. When you get home, what are you gonna tell those kids?
Smith: I'll tell 'em the truth. Might as well find it out now as later.
Saunders: I don't think they'll believe you, Barack. You know, they're liable to look up at you with hurt faces and say, 'Barack, what did you do? Quit? Didn't you do something about it?'
Smith: Well, what do you expect me to do? An honorary stooge like me against the Clintons and McCains and machines and lies...
Saunders: Your friend Mr. Lincoln had his Clintons and Bush's. So did every other man whoever tried to lift his thought up off the ground. Odds against 'em didn't stop those men. They were fools that way. All the good that ever came into this world came from fools with faith like that. You know that Barack. You can't quit now. Not you! They aren't all Clintons and Bush's in Washington. Their kind just throw big shadows, that's all. You didn't just have faith in Hillary or any other living man. You had faith in something bigger than that. You had plain, decent, every day, common rightness. And this country could use some of that. Yeah - so could the whole cock-eyed world. A lot of it. Remember the first day you got here? Remember what you said about Mr. Lincoln? You said he was sitting up there waiting for someone to come along. You were right! He was waiting for a man who could see his job and sail into it. That's what he was waiting for. A man who could tear into the Bush's and root 'em out into the open. I think he was waiting for you Barack. He knows you can do it. So do I.
   Smith: What? Do what, Saunders?
Saunders: You just make up your mind you're not gonna quit and I'll tell you what. I've been thinkin' about it all the way back here. It's a forty foot dive into a tub of water, but I think you can do it.
Smith: Clarissa, where can we get a drink?
Saunders (slapping his knee): Now you're talkin'! (As they leave, he waves back at the seated, imposing figure of Mr. Lincoln.)

The next morning, Smith appears at his Senate desk to the consternation of the others in the chamber.
HT, It's a good question. And why are white voters called "ethnics" and black voters are called black? Just curious.
How ugly can it get? Indeed. It is becoming as contenscious as 1980 between Kennedy and Carter and we know the end results. We Dems love to shoot ourselves in the foot. Interesting that ABC NEWS/Washington Post head to head recently has Obama still with a comfortable 11 point lead over McWar and essentially tied with Hillary.
There is and always has been a big difference between the politics of hope and politics of destruction. The politics of hope and change doesn't restrict your ability to defend yourself and question your opponents erroneous claims. After nearly two months of mudslinging and deceptive lies from the Clinton campaign, it's only fair to fight back. A new kind of politics isn't going to be easy. Obama's gotta get through the -current- broken system of vitrolic lies first.

The media doesn't like to pick up on it, because that doesn't feed into their picturesque storyline that sells papers.
Why aren't we talking more about the Globe & Mail's story claiming that it was the Clinton Campaign that told Canadian officials to disregard the stance on NAFTA as just political positioning?

IF THIS STORY IS TRUE it will be one of the ultimate campaign dirty tricks...Clinton will have pulled a complete 180 on her position on NAFTA in the Cleveland debate and then pinned it falsely on her opponent and then allowed the voters in Texas and, more importantly, Ohio to reward her for the deception.

IF THIS STORY IS TRUE it will prove what many have held all along...Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Machine will do anything and say anything to win the presidency.

IF THIS STORY IS TRUE it will destroy her candidacy and make her persona non grata in the Senate.

Where's the follow-up?
Margaret, you don't fire people until you get all the facts to render such a decision. We are now finding out that this was a Clinton media tactic that worked in the short term, but will allow for the fat lady to keep warming up for the eventual Obama nomination. Later.
"Obama -- with both his delegate lead and his politics of hope -- does have more to lose as things get ugly. "
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Senator Obama has run an EXCELLENT campaign. Part of being President is knowing when to negotiate, and knowing when to fight. The "Clintons" have proven that the only thing that gets their attention is a swift kick in the a$$, so I feel it is Senator Obama's DUTY strap on the old boots! :)

Contrary to conventional wisdon, I think this will STRENGHTHEN Senator Obama's campaign, because it will once and for all remove the old "is he tough enough" BS that the media uses when they have a slow news day.

Why is the Clinton campaign allowed to do whatever it wants, then Hillary cries or says one nice thing, and she is magically morphed into some type of victim?

The "strength and experience" candidate is the victim of:

-the right wing conspiracy

-"the boys" ganging up on her

-the media

-the caucuses

-the commitments she makes (in Florida and Michigan especially, but Nafta comes to mind as well)

- the things she says (for/against DL for illegal immigrants, for/aganist NAFTA, for/against bombing Iran)

-the rules of the Democratic party (which she helped to create!)

-President Bush who "tricked" her into voting for
the war

-anybody who questions her inherent right to rule

Has there ever been a more VICTIMIZED person running for the Presidency? Oh yeah, I forgot Bill.
Obama will win NC by 15 - 20%

Reasons 1)- Black Population
2)- Young(18-35) well educated in Charlotte
3)- Many New Yorkers tired of Clinton
4)- Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune military do not believe in Hillary (Personal Knowledge)
5)- Recent shift of Republican to Independent re-registration to vote for Obama
       5)- Recent move from Republicana
Looks like Barack will win Texas after all, thanks to the Texas caucuses. Where's the Press on this?

What's all this nonsense about Rezko, which has been explained and fact-checked. Rezko's current legal troubles have nothing to do with Barack, but the media keeps harping on it. On the other hand, the Clinton's have an upcoming lawsuit regarding campaign funds fraud, and yet no coverage in the media on this. Where's the outrage?

Democrat 08,

Another answer to your question is that the Democratic Party and State government chose to follow the rules in those States.

No matter how many people FL has, the rules are not different for them.

And I hope you're not jumping on Hillary's line of some states not mattering. That would be truly unfortunate.
Paying for the do-over. I heard on NPR this morning that a do-over in Michigan would cost roughly $10 million. Perhaps Obama could offer a solution - his campaign pays for 1/3, the Clinton campaign pays for 1/3 and the DNC (or Michagan Dem Party) pays for 1/3. (Alternatively the Clinton and Obama campaigns each pay for 1/2).

If a do-over in FL is needed (which, given that Obama's name was on the ballot - even though I'm sure some voters stayed home - is not as clear to me), perhaps the same formula could apply.

Michigan definitely needs some sort of do-over, esp since Obama's name wasn't on the ballot. Florida, not so much.

(BTW - Obama supporter who will (still) hold her nose and vote for Hillary in the general)
RobK, Seattle.

You forgot NAFTA/Canadians. It was the Clinton campaign not Obama's that discussed NAFTA with the Canadians. Only Keith Olbermann reported on it last night.

I was suspect of the Clinton campaign from the beginning.

My opinion of Hillary....

Any Woman who does not respect herself CANNOT be expected to respect others.

Margaret, Columbus, Ohio.... Aren't you leaving out some important facts? The aide prefaced her comment by saying it was off the record and when the reporter used it anyhow she apologized for it. The "Ken Star" thing you referenced was actually a press release from the Clinton campaign. Do you really fail to see who is the dirty campaigner? I think you are really so blinded by your devotion to the Clintons that you'll excuse all their dirty tactics. They can lie, cheat and steal from the country but you won't care.
Archie B- keep drinking the kool-aid and/or come up from the rock you been living under for the last 7 years. I am truly amazed by the so-called individuals who are apologists, in denial of our worsening economic plight, trillion dollars of debt, and defend the GOP WHO THEY CLAIM ARE FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE. Knock on wood (actually your brain).
EMMY
If Hillary is such a fighter then why does she keep playing the victim mentality card, real fighters take what is handed to them and move on with a single minded purpose. Hillary is the one full of hollow words, 35 years of experience where?
Better take another look at that electoral map and your silly primary rules democrats before you pronounce obama your candidate...he has won a lot of states that no democrat will win in November because of guilt ridden white people in the rocky states and lots of black voters in southern states...those groups won't get it done for dems in those states come November...
Chuck, NY. If Hillary got "experience" in the white house, how about Laura or Barbara Bush running for pres on their "experience".....
I think we should take into account the number of registered Democrats voting for either candidate. It is the super delegates' duty to vote in such a way as to preserve the integrity and pursue the goals of the Party.
I would be interested in seeing which candidate seems to have the support of the Democratic base prior to making any arguement as to how Super Delegates should vote. Neither candidate will win in 2008 without the support of the base.

This is an important question given the large number of wins Barach has received through the Caucus process. So few people actually participate in a caucus as compared to a primary it would be a big mistake to assume that a caucus win will equate to a large voter turnout for the candidate.
Margaret - 9:33 am post -

The advisor in question (Samantha Power) has already apologized

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/03/obama_adviser_apologizes_for_c.php

Reading between the lines, it seems that Obama told her that that sort of comment wasn't acceptable campaigning, and that she better get out and apologize immediately...

Now - will there be an apology from Howard Wolfson for calling Barack Obama Ken Starr? Doubt it....
Margaret from Columbus,

It is ignorant people like you that will cost the democrats the election. Bravo.
So much for Journalist integrity. Samantha's statement was supposed to be "off the record", but they published it anyway. Why to people bother to trust the press. The press needs to stop "making" the news and just responsibly "report" the news.
I loved the quote: Obama is going door to door looking for voters, Hillary is going door to dor looking for Bill how true is that
Florida had many ABSENTEE votes cast in December - well before Obama won in Iowa - in December it was Hillary who had the huge NAME REGOGNITION. And she has led in many states UNTIL Obama enters the state and campaigns. He did not do this in Florida as the candidates - ALL CANDIDATES - AGREED that Florida would NOT COUNT! And no one campaigned there. Has there been ANY state other than Arkansas where BOTH have campaigned and SHE has won by over 20 points? I don't think so! And the PEOPLE in Florida KNEW their VOTES WOULD NOT COUNT - so many people who WOULD. HAVE VOTED DID NOT! So, there is absolutely NO WAY that counting the January vote would be fair.

Just punish these states for going against the rules by splitting the delegates 50/50 between Hillary and Obama. (or maybe cut a % of the delegates as further punishment, as the GOP did) No harm, no foul. That way these states' State Legislatures will have to explain to their constituents why they broke the rules - but, the states can be somewhat placated by having their Delegations seated in Denver. No harm, no foul on the outcome - but the States will at least be able to attend the convention.
If Obama has more to lose if this gets ugly, doesn't he have more to gain if it stays positive?

OH, that's right, there's no chance of this campaigning staying COMPLETELY postive because HRC was losing the whole time it was positive. What exactly does that say?

So instead she gets to get nasty but Obama has to stay above the fray...oh no, he can't stay above the fray because then he's accused of not engaging or not appearing tough.

Well, I feel that it takes both good judgment and a certain brand of political toughness to attempt to keep it positive and stay on the issues. But will that fly everywhere in America? Will it fly in enough of America?

Hillary wins by being nasty and we as a Country think that's a good thing?? That explains a lot.
Clinton can NOT win on her Merits, it takes more than HER "experience" (i.e. having tea with foreign leaders) to win. So, she launches attacks, which are mostly lies, distortions, and misrepresentations...

Can anyone believe ANYTHING she has said - look at her "years of experience" - How many lies and Scandals have involved Hillary? Look at what she has thrown at Obama - nearly everything - provably FALSE...and I won't go down the list b/c it would take more room than I have.

As a woman, I would really like to see a woman as President, just not this one...she is an embarrassment to us all, and I am sorry for those of you who are so blinded by the fact that she is a woman that you can not see that.

She used her name and her husband, NOT her experience, to leapfrog over more deserving, and more qualified women to get to where she is...and she doesn't CARE about the party or the country or you women who are supporting her - if she did - she wouldn't be campaigning for the Republicans.

She would rather see four more years of John McCain so that she can run again in 2012 than to let any other Democrat win. She would rather see McCain than healthcare for all, she would rather see a continuation of Bush-McCain wars than a move toward peace and prosperity, she would rather see McCain than a better, safer world for your children - Come ON women, open your eyes!!! If Hillary does not win the nomination, she couldn't care less about you or your children - she will NOT let Obama make history before she does. THIS is not about feminism, the country, the party, or the children...it is all about HILLARY.

She all but ENDORSED MCCAIN for crying out loud - what will it take for people to wake up and see her for what she is...a monster.

By the way - I would be OUTRAGED if I had given my hard earned money to Hillary and she were using MY money to campaign for the REPUBLICANS!
How many rotten things do the Clinton's have to do before it really effects them?

And talk about fighting with your hands tied! If Obama attacks her it's back to the same ol' thing he alluded to in the "silly season" remark. If he goes after her then she says the golden boy is now tarnished with the mud I threw at him.
I tend to agree with Power that Clinton is a monster. She is only telling the truth.
Clinton lied about Obama and NAFTA/Canada. It was her who was doing the winking with Canada and then blaming Obama for her own sins.
Now she is endorsing the republican over the probable democratic nominee. How very Lieberman of her. She betrays her party in her power madness.
And she has crossed the line.
It's obvious she will pursue a scorched earth policy and not just destroy Obama but the party as well. she is only about herself.
TNR has a great article on how this woman is going to destroy the party and Obama in her temper tantrum. She knows she cannot get the delegates and the votes needed to overtake Obama so she is going to destroy everything in her path instead.

SOLUTIONS FOR AMERICA : NEW ELECTIONS IN FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN,NOT CAUCUS'S TO BE COMPLETED BY JUNE 10TH,'08.PAID FOR BY EACH STATE.
THe DNC can't raise money from Obama supporters because we don't trust them. if they break the will of the people and go for Hillary than Obama people will sit back and give him money for 2012 after McCain trounces her! And you superdelegates are a big bunch of pussies!! Remember, we are watching you. If you overturn the people's choice, than you will be targeted for removal next time you run....we have the money to do it!
How ugly can it get? School yard bullies just keep at it till something stops them. Hillary cannot win, she knows it. She's on a kamakaze mission to cause as much damage as possible on her way down. It reinforces the Republican view that Democrats are IDIOTS. Hillary needs to step aside & unify the party but she won't. Hope ya'll like McCain.
