Clinton camp again questions Obama

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Obama’s not really that against the Iraq war, and he’s a something of a hypocrite, was the message once again from the Clinton campaign. The Clinton campaign has hammered this issue over and over for months -- most famously, there was Bill Clinton calling his position on Iraq a “fairy tale.”

But when (now former) top Obama foreign policy adviser Samantha Power told BBC that Obama "will, of course, not rely on some plan that he’s crafted as a presidential candidate or a U.S. Senator," the Clinton campaign found something tangible to seize on. They did it Friday in a conference call with reporters and did it again today -- this time in a conference call with Lee Feinstein, the campaign’s chief foreign policy adviser, Gen. Wesley Clark, Admiral Joe Sestak and Lt. Gen. Joe Ballard.

“Candidates should not tell voters one thing and have advisers tell BBC others,” said Communications Director Howard Wolfson said. “You should not hit another candidate for a position you hold. …This is something voters should be particularly concerned about.”

Clinton herself has not set a date for withdrawal and has said she would take into consideration the advice of military personnel on the ground to assess the situation in Jan. 2009. But it’s not about that, the campaign said; it’s that Obama is being inconsistent.

'Resolve' and 'conviction'
Talking points alert: Clark, Sestak and Ballard each used the words “resolve” and “conviction” to describe Clinton and called into question Obama’s.

“What I heard from the Obama campaign raises concern,” Clark said. “It comes down to resolve and conviction ….That’s why I’m for Clinton -- she has the resolve and conviction.”

Obama's message is sound.  He was never for the war, stood against it when most and Hillary authorized it (without reading intellegence reports), wants to pull troops out within 16 months, wants to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.
Which means that he reserves judgment to handle unforeseen circumstances.

Can we pull this thorn we call Hillary out of our side yet?

It seems infecting the Democratic party...
I have been watching this circus from the beginning, and can't believe "Billary is even allowed to run, considering all the scandal she brings with her. The fact she is still married to "Slick Willie",speaks volumes in itself. The freshman senator Obama basically brings a talent for speaking and not much more. I find it surprising and alarming he has so many followers based solely on his empty words.Looking at his church and some of his "backers" should give the public something to think about to say the least!
Hillary joined John McCain in voting to give authorization to George W. Bush to invade Iraq. Any questions?
"Clinton herself has not set a date for withdrawal and has said she would take into consideration the advice of military personnel on the ground to assess the situation in Jan. 2009. But it’s not about that, the campaign said; it’s that Obama is being inconsistent".
Didn't Hillary say she would begin to bring the troops home within 60 days of her presidency?  Yea, Hillary is consistent and has conviction when it comes to saying and/or doing anything to get to the White House.
My, oh my!  More Clintons' chatter...aren't they the ones who said talk is cheap...they do so much of it!  Spin, spin, spin. In her wildest dreams.  It's almost amusing what the (second place) Clintons get away with by simply 'putting it out there.'  Nope, for those of us who truly bellive in Sen. Obama...Hillary as VP is a nightmare scenario, not a 'dream' anything.  Speaking of spin, when Sen. Obama wins Mississippi tomorrow, he needs to 'celebrate' it with falling balloons (red, white and blue, of course) and confetti.  Then it'll get shown a thousand times as these things do when it's Hillary, right?  Right? The coverage isn't slanted, is it?  Celebrate Sen. Obama!  Let's test this out.
Once again, it looks like Senator Obama is telling voters one thing while his campaign says those words should not to be mistaken for serious action.

After months of speeches from Senator Obama promising a hard end date to the Iraq war, his top foreign policy adviser that counseled his campaign during that period is on the record saying that Senator Obama will "not rely on some plan that he's crafted as a presidential candidate or a U.S. Senator."

Voters already have serious questions about whether Senator Obama is ready to be Commander-in-Chief. Now there are questions about whether he's serious about the Iraq plan he's discussed for the last year on the campaign trail.

Senator Obama has made hard end dates about Iraq a centerpiece of his campaign and has repeatedly attacked Senator Clinton for not being clear about her intentions with regard to troop withdrawal.

It turns out those attacks and speeches were just words. And if you can't trust Senator Obama's words, what's left?

This latest incident is part of a larger pattern where Senator Obama doesn't deliver on the promises he makes on the campaign trail -- whether it's his 2004 Senate race or his 2008 White House campaign.

In 2003, Senator Obama said he was for a single payer health system, but now opposes plans that cover every American. He promised to repeal the Patriot Act, but then voted to extend it. He promised to normalize relations with Cuba, but flip-flopped when he started running for president.

In 2008, Senator Obama rails against NAFTA in Ohio while his top economic advisor assures the Canadians his rhetoric is just "political positioning." He promises to opt in to public financing if the GOP nominee does, but then breaks that pledge in real time. He promises to withdraw from Iraq within 16 months, and now his top foreign policy adviser says that he's not relying on the plan.

With a short record to run on, Senator Obama's entire campaign is based on the speeches he makes on the campaign trail. So when he and his advisers dismiss the plans he touts on the stump, it undermines his entire candidacy.

Americans have heard plenty of speeches. It's time they got serious solutions and that's what Hillary is going to deliver when she is President.
Why wouldn't these people give Hillary a favorable endorsement - they OWE her!  For Lt. Gen. Ballard, he was nominated by Bill Clinton to be the Chief of Engineers and Commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Congressman Sestak received campaign funds from the Clintons.  What does this make their endorsements...the unbiased truth or repayment for a favor?
Obama should simply start ignoring these idiots. The rest of us are.
The advisor is GONE!
SHE RESIGNED...

DEAD ISSUE...

sign of desperation!!

Like beating the dead horse there howie....
to punish it for...hmmmm....
"running a bad race"
no matter what...
the horse's name is...
it is still DEAD!
LOL
LOL

I'm went from frustrated....

to hysterical....

WITH LAUGHTER!!

Sadly, the Clinton camp is not far from the political tricks of Carl Rove. At a point in time when there is a swell of new interest and hope for change, the Clinton Campaign forges ahead destroying anything positive and insuring a slow moving, divided house will win the day. If experience is judged by the original healthcare strategy, whitewater and travel gate....get ready for another dose of partisan politics.
Obama may not be the best, but he is way ahead of whoever is in second!
It is our patriotic duty to deny and reject this type of politics.  This is our chance to be true patriots and reject Clinton and her continued corruption.  America and the world need us all to step up now.  Please consider doing what you can to help.

I've been watching the campain since Iowa and am concerned how the Clinton's have constantly changed their approach to voters. It's almost like the way Bush sold us the Iraq war.
Using every possible slur to sell voters on her right to be President. If use say "EXPERIANCE" for long enough people will start to believe it.

She is a politician of the 80's and 90's and has a base who reflect that time.
We wouldn't have noticed her old style if it wasn't for the refeshing tone Obama brought to the campain.
Hopefully we can move on from this school yard mentality that is more about personal attacts than stance on particular policy.
If she manages to get the nomination it will be by using tactics from the past and we will be reverting to politics of the past and be left isolated from the world at large.
How many Clinton's does it take to run against Obama?.

I think Hilliary would be better served by speaking softly about anyone. She wants to bring up the war, NAFTA, and then Obama's so called relationship with Rizok. She should be worried about what will come out with her endorser Gov. Spitzer and the prostitution ring. Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house Hillary.
And, Obama has said he will end the war in 2009 - clinton is the one who said she would start bringing home the troops in 60 days.  I want this war to end as soon as anyone - my son-in-law is scheduled to go back in 2009, but we have to keep our troops safe.
Instead of sen Obama's adviser, Wolfson should have been fired for all the deception and garbage he has put out there. He is as credible as a gossip columnist; he lies, he misrepresents, he insults; why don't Obama's supporters ask for Wolfson's resignation and bring some civility to Clinton camp, they so need it.
This charade (Hillary's Campaign) should be immediately shut down, boarded up and condemned.  It is obvious that Hillary needs a nice quiet padded room and a straitjacket.
The media continues to propagate this Clinton BS... it is simple, if the voters are buying this Clinton dribble then they will get what they pay for.

Four years of more Clinton scandal, polarized politics, high gas prices and lose of jobs... basically where a bunch of nothing gets done.

Real change = Obama!

WE HAVE ALL REJECTED THE CLINTONS AND THEIR LIES. SHAME ON YOU BILL AND SH-RILL CLINTONS. YOU ARE DISPECABLE!
It is our patriotic duty to deny and reject campaign rhetoric. Obama is "just talk" He is as clever a politician as any. It is our patriotic duty to vote for someone who will do what they say they will do.
That's why my vote goes to Hillary Clinton.
WE HAVE ALL REJECTED THE CLINTONS AND THEIR LIES. SHAME ON YOU BILL AND SH-RILL CLINTONS. YOU ARE DISPECABLE!
I wish Bill would quit chasing babes for a couple hours and give Hillary what she needs. I am soooo, tired of her shrill, angry, pessimistic, negative diatribe. BLEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hillary, YOU ARE BEHIND IN EVERY WAY THAT MATTERS. GET OVER YOURSELF AND GET A LIFE.
Unbelievable that we are voting for an "American Idol" candidate rather than someone, like Hillary Clinton, who has the experience to be President. This nation is on prozac and deserves what it gets -- someone who is inexperienced and doesn't want to answer more than 8 questions (otherwise his inconsistencies and shallowness would surface).
This is getting ridiculous. Hasn't Hillary Clinton always claimed that she cannot give a firm date because it will depend on the situation on the ground in January 09 ? That's exactly what Samantha Powers told BBC: the intent is to leave as soon as possible, but you cannot predict what Iraq will look like 10 months from now.
I want to know why Clinton followers endorse this type of continuous, embarassing mudslinging(eg. Jo_hb08,etc.)and why do they think this is advancing American democracy in a positive way?  As long predicted, Hillary is polarizing and dividing Democrats and it is going to continue well into the summer because she doesn't have enough class or guts to admit defeat.  She could help save this election and defeat McCain, but it's easy to see her true colors.  Democrats better wise up because McCain is building strength and will steal Democratic votes in the election if things don't change. The republican-backed 527's will rip Hillary a new one!
Nafta isn't the problem - it is China and our corporate greed.  People never want to accept responsibility and Obama wants us to "feel good" and as lemmings follow him to the sea. No way. Hillary has my vote and all the large States (which Obama didn't win) also realize she is the winner.
---
CLINTON WANTS OBAMA FOR HER V.P. --- BUT TELLS VOTERS THAT HE IS NOT READY TO BE VP ... WHAT IS HER MESSAGE?  THE BRAINLESSNESS OF THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN IS INCREDULOUS.
----
Power resigned because she told the shameful truth about Barack lying to the American people.  There's a pattern here, he promises people and will do the opposite just to get their votes.  NAFTAGATE now IRAQGATE.  Barack also keeps talking about judgement - how about his judgement on Rezko who is already under criminal investigation and still made a house deal with Rezko.  Shame on you Obama!
It is something that the American public can't seem to handle...  This idea of the fact that we were led to conflict in Iraq and now we have to make sure that things won't totally fall apart as we leave.  It is too bad that we can't ship everyone of the Bush administration over there to be foot soldiers so they know what kind of mess they made.

Power was correct in the idea that if things start to go badly with our departure, then we have to go back in and prop up and stablize the government there until we can make sure that there is a minimum of problems when we leave.
GOOD  !!!

IF CLINTON DOESN'T ASK THE QUESTIONS, WHO WILL?

Surely not the "in-the-tank-with-obama" media....
This charade (Hillary's Campaign) should be immediately shut down, boarded up and condemned.  It is obvious that Hillary needs a nice quiet padded room and a straitjacket.
HILLARYS NEW BATTLE CRY.SHAME ON YOU DEMOCRATICS FOR NOT MAKING ME YOUR PRESIDENT.I SHOW YOU.I WILL DESTROY OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.SHAME ON YOU DEMOCRATICS!
HRC trying to cast Obama as a weak candidate who is dishonest and lacking conviction? This story begs to differ! http://www.hillaryproject.com/index.php?/en/story-details/appellate_court_set_to_hear_arguments_in_paul_vs_clinton_case

Come on people, HRc will do anything to win. Lets' not be fooled into thinking she is a viable candidate who can win the White House this year. The RNC will expose her 2000 senate race financial antics and the court battle in which she is currently the defendant.

Not a mention of this relavent story by the major news networks.
Obama:  No Experience, No Risk, No Noticable Change, No Accomplishments, No Opinion (except that he has been ordained to be President).  He has not earned his Senate Paycheck because he has done nothing since he became a senator except run for President.  He has been groomed by the Old Guard (and red-nosed) from the beginning to run so they can get their own agenda's passed.  Read NYTimes Mar 8 article "Star Power, Minor Role" and see the truth - there is no substance to this Star - God help us if he wins!  I was enamoured by him at first, as many were, but realized he was a cheerleader and had nothing of substance or importance to say.   God Bless America - we're going to need it!
I would just like to say that no matter what indecisions people may have between our two candidates, each of them need each other to capture the White House in the November election.  It does not matter who I believe is the best candidate (I believe that they are both capable of doing what is in the BEST interest of the Democratic Party).  When it all comes down to it ( according to all the polls, which by the way everyone should remember that they are only polls and these polls have been WRONG at times) it will come down to the Super Delegates.  There are still some 800 Super Delegates who have not decided their vote and as we have seen in the past they tend to sway in the direction which best fits THEIR needs.

My fellow Democrats do not be influenced by the Republican Parties undermining.  The Republican Party has much to LOOSE in this election.   It is almost certain that there will be a Democratic President governing the United States in 2009.  Keeping this in mind the Republican Party will work on converting any vote to create dissention within the party so that we can not agree on who is our best candidate. Thus creating the “United we Stand – Divided We Fall” scenario.  This is a Republican Party Members dream.  Divide the Democratic Party, keep the White House and hopefully maneuver the Senate and House of Representatives into the favor of the Republican Party.  Remember this is not about who controls the White House more so than Who controls the Oil!  People should ask themselves why we are paying so much for Oil when we have been in control of the Region for quite sometime.  Callifornia is at $4.00 a gallon - Unconscionable!

I am willing to predict that Daddy Bush and Juniors hands are right in the middle of all of this…(mostly Daddy cause Junior is missing some cards) always remember that Daddy Bush was the only President who was Director of the CIA before he became President.  Junior invaded IRAQ based on the purpose of assassinating Saddam (remember the Mission Accomplished Speech) and keeping their hands as deep as possible to create as much wealth for them.  Disagree – another prediction I will make is that JEB Bush will either be on the list of VP’s for the McCain ticket or will become part of the Cabinet – hmm let’s see Secretary of State or better yet Secretary of Defense.

The best case scenario for the Republican Party is to keep the house fighting against one another. By the way people should not be fooled by supporters who are backing the two candidates.  Each of those supporters have been promised something whoever they may be and yes even my girl OPRAH.  Love her to death but she’ll likely get some kind of benefit from her endorsement.
Remember this:  She’s a Monster & He’s a Muslim.  But if you put the M&M together it makes a great piece of candy and everyone I know pretty much loves M&M’s.

DEMOCRATS UNITE WE MUST NOT LOOSE THE WHITE HOUSE TO THE REPUBLICANS FOR ANOTHER 8 YEARS AND HAVE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY DISSOLVE THE MIDDLE CLASS….
PWK, Mobile AL - If you are a man, your comments are sexist and you need to get over the fact that some women may be stronger than you. If you are a woman, you are obviously under the thumb of some man to think that a strong woman is an angry woman. Whichever you are...get over it. Geez...join this century!
Once in a lifetime someone comes along and challenges the status quo through thoughtful intelligence.  Once in a lifetime someone comes along that speaks with such eloquence other are forced to listen. Once in a lifetime someone comes along who truly cares to empower the average American, instead of placate the privileged few. Once in a lifetime someone comes along that has the courage to challenge the special interest , a dangerous thing to do. Once in a lifetime someone comes along who lifts the spirit of all Americans!  The question is: are you really going to let this-- once in a lifetime-- opportunity --to correct our bought and paid for governments (by special interest)--pass you by?

Experience .. like receiving a teapot , or singing the hits with Sinbad , or how bout the Peace In Ireland BS Hillary is spewing . The Rethugs are gonna eat her alive on her "Experience".Her speech in China doesnt count , words are cheap remember , so every speech shes ever made , dont mean squat .
I see the same names here on FirstRead posting day in and day out defending Obama. What is it with you guys? affirmative action jobs in the government and you can post on blogs at work,  or between classes in college due to getting preferential treatment to get in to the school or is is just that you are on the welfare rolls and have a lot of time on your hands? I applaud Congressman King from Iowa for his comments about "dancing in the Street" if Obama should be elected president.  His middle name and it is his middle name "Hussein" does matter.
Religion matters too, not that Obama is a Muslim but he is worse than that, a member of a black separatist church whose pastor uses profanity from the pulpit and
says whites caused 9/11 plus gives Louis Farrakhan a medal of honor. Obama is up to his ears in corruption in the Rezco case and this is beginning to unravel just today in that trial. Obama's friendly relationship with Terrorist Bill Ayers and his terrorist wife, the saying one thing in the campaign on the stump and privately telling other countries to ignore it, that he does not really mean it. Auchi the Iraqi businessman who paid for Obama's house, and so much more that there is not room or time to post it on here.  It matters not that the cult like followers of Obama refuse to see Reality nor care, Solid Americans will make sure that the truth prevails and good wins out over evil which is what Obama is.
Resolve and Conviction...2 things people say Bush had/has....yet they are meaningless with out sound judgement and common sense.

Obama has continuously said we have to be "as careful getting out of Iraq, as we were careless getting in", and his former advisor has acknowledged the fact that he would not base his withdraw plans on those formulated at this present time, but rather after meeting with the commanders on the ground.  Hillary, on the other hand, say she will begin the withdraw within "60 days".  Now which of these 2 responses seem to show a better since of judgement and common sense?  To say you'll withdraw in "60 days" or wait until after you've consulted with the necessary professionals and have gathered all the information needed, before saying when.

Aie - Power resigned because she told the truth, but felt it was inappropriate to use the language she did. Hillary is a "Monster". Even Wolfson isn't arguing that fact. Actually, have you heard anyone from Hillary's campaign deny that? Of course not!!! They don't want to get caught in another lie.
The Obama worshipers really sound angry and down right like a cult following. When you are exposed for being a fraud and the momentum is starting to go against Obama, I guess the first response is denial and now it has changed to anger. Soon it'll be bargaining , then depression, and finally acceptance. Little by little the truth is starting to come out as it should since we can't give anyone a free ride as the media is now finding out. The hype is fading and American Idol supporters are waking up as shown by undecided going for Hillary. It's shameful the Obama camp has tried to use an excuse of rules to shut out millions of voters in MI& FL. democracy involves everyone voting, not just those who can take the time out to caucas. The date someone votes is hardly a violation of rules and besides, the people have no control over it. Obama is running scared as are his supporters when the people of MI & FL finally speak. I agree with above that America will and deserves to suffer if Obama, someone crafted by image and advertisement consultants wins, and I as many others will vote McCain over Obama.
Let's be truthful here. Senator Obama is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual tactics, mindset, and practices of both Hilary, and McCain. Both are what we know as the status quo of the Washington political establishmnet. Hence contrary to change.
Republicans and Hilary use out of context quotes of news, comments, and anything that they can feed to the news hungry media. The media sucks it up and spews it to the unsuspecting attention deficit public. Yes, they believe it. That gives the media more time to slowly straighten it out. Again in the short sound bites that the public may or may not pick up on.
Any time the Clintons says something, the media repeats it. Whether they think it's true or not. This past week I've seen Hilary use the media like a tool. This reminds me of the coverage that the media gave the Republicans concerning the Swift Boat rhetoric. Please media, wake up. Report the facts from both sides. Report the positions from both sides. Give the public the chance to use some critical thinking for a change. We can "think" you know.
Hey, how about replacing the hype with facts and accomplichments of all the candidates. Let's compare records and deeds. Be newsworthy, or worthy of "reporting" the whole news.
the reason Clinton has not set a date or even a real timetable for withdrwal is because she does not plan on their being a whitdrawl. She has stated that her plan is to consult with the Generals on the ground and follow their reccomendations, these would be the Generals put in place by President Bush, the ones that were picked because they would follow his plan without question. What do you think they are going to reccommend. A LEADER, leads. You tell your joint cheifs what you want and it is their job to figure out a way to make it happen or tell you it can't be done and why.
The problem with the Democratic Campaign isn't the candidates. All you have to do is read about 95% of these comments to know what the problem is.
Quote from MSNBC article:
"Disappointment over war stance
He disappointed some Democrats by not taking a more prominent role opposing the war — he voted against a troop withdrawal proposal by Senators John Kerry and Russ Feingold in June 2006, arguing that a firm date for withdrawal would hamstring diplomats and military commanders in the field."
"He was cautious — even on the Iraq war, which he had opposed as a Senate candidate, he voted against the withdrawal of troops. He proposed a drawdown only after he was running for president and polls showed voters favoring it."

Obama is just another politican--and using the war to get into the office. pathetic.
Yes to the 'Shame on the Clinton Camp'!  I totally agree - Wolfsen misrepresents every time he opens his mouth.  The Obama camp should definitely call for his resignation.  You have my vote on that.  And Hillary Clinton and her staff will do or say anything to get nominated.  To answer another question, it is taking THREE CLINTONS to take on ONE OBAMA!  The Clintons' are what I would categorize as pitiful.
No person in the Clinton camp told Power what to say and yet it is clear that she said something, and the something she said was that Obama would not withdraw troops from Iraq in 16 months as he has stated more than once both on the stump and in debates.  The issue is not Iraq policy because the policy as stated by Power is almost identical to the Clinton policy.  The issue is credibility and the documented record  supports the Clinton claim of Obama being inconsistent.

Both Obama and Clinton are great candidates and both are nearly identical when it comes to policy.  As voters we must make a choice between the two based on their behavior and what they say on the record.

Some Obama supporters like to argue what is not being argued.  Did Obama say he would withdraw our troops within the first 16 months or not?  Did Power say the Obama camp would stick with the plan or not?  Did Obama give the impression that he would re-negociate the NAFTA treaty within the first two months of his term or not?  Did his representative tell representatives from Canada that Obama's position should been seen within the context of his campaign in Ohio or not?

Many objective observers find Obama's positions in public are not consistent with his positions in private.  Clinton is simply pointing out these inconsistencies as a way of drawing a contrast between herself and Obama.  I think most agree that this type of behavior is what one might expect a political candidate to do.....compare herself to the person against whom she is running.
