How can you want him as VP, if…?

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
When asked how Hillary Clinton could consider Barack Obama to be her vice president if she does not think he's qualified to be commander in chief, Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson said on a conference call today that she does NOT think he has passed the commander in chief test yet, but there is a long way between now and the convention, and that she has not ruled out selecting him as a vice president.

(So far, he has not taken follow questions about the obvious fact that Obama is ahead in both popular vote and delegates.)

VIDEO: Mar. 10: Rejecting the idea of being Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Barack Obama says, "I don't know how somebody in second place is offering the vice presidency to the person who is in first place."

Wolfson and Clinton foreign policy advisors scheduled the call to emphasize points made by the New York Times on Sunday about Obama's lack of a long legislative record in the senate and to again underscore Samantha Power's comments to the BBC last week indicating Obama might not withdraw from Iraq on the timetable he's laid out as a candidate and senator.

Specifically, Wolfson was asked: "Can you explain how the senator would consider having Barack Obama as a running mate if she does not think he's qualified to be Commander-in-Chief? Wouldn't that be the first qualification for anyone that she would consider to be on the ticket? Since she and the president over the weekend -- she Friday, again and the president on Saturday did suggest that that was certainly in their thinking?"

Wolfson answered, "Well what we have said is that Sen. Obama has not passed the Commander-in-Chief test. This is an issue that voters and reporters are asking Sen. Clinton about. It's not something that she would rule out at this point. But we do not believe as of this point Sen. Obama has passed that key Commander-in-Chief test. And there's a long way to go between now and Denver, as you know, and there's a lot left to be played out in the context of this primary.

To a follow-up question, Wolfson added, "Sen. Clinton will not chose any candidate who has not at the time of the choosing, passed the national security threshold. Period. But we have a long way to go between now and Denver, and it's not something that she's prepared to rule out at this point. But certainly anyone who's chosen as vice presidential candidate needs to be prepared to be Commander in Chief.”

NBC’s Domenico Montanaro adds, that Wolfson was then asked if there is something Obama could do between now and the August convention that would allow him to pass that Commander-In-Chief test.

“No, we’re not saying-- it’s not something we’re not prepared to rule out at this time,” he concluded.

It's official, if it wasn't obvious before, MSNBC has fully endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States of America!!  Screw Hillary, she doesn't have a chance now!  CNN is close behind, but now fully endorsing Obama yet but should before the Pennsylvania primaries!!  GO Obama, now with the full power of obaMSNBC!!!!
How demeaning! Isn't he winning? I think she is still up to her old kitchen sink tricks. It never seems to work in the long run.
bonkeypost.blogspot.com
As a NYer who voted for Clnton as Senator, I a very dissapionted that she is clearly saying anything to get elected. So many conflicts. Tired of the spin. How will she bring folks together? Nothing will get done with her as president regardless of her ideas. Should put the kitchen sink way and try to negotiate VP under Obama now (while she still has a litte credibility). SHe WILL not pass him in elected delegates.
Who's running that campaign?  It has to be the most schizophrenic campaign ever!  First, all that matters is delegates, then it's the popular vote, then it's primary delegates only.  Running second they say that they would consider Obama as a running mate like they are the presumptive nominee.  Now, they get called on their BS and this is the best they can come back with (he's not ready yet, but there's lots of time between now and Denver for him to get ready).  Give me a break!
They are soo full of #$&#!
Hillary Clinton's campaign is very short sighted.  This is a very good example.  Her campign is clear on exploiting Obama's youth (at least younger than her) and honesty.  She'll smear him any way she can.  However, she'll cozy up to Obama if it will further her career.

Perhaps it's just politics--but it's careless politics.

Furthermore, I hope she doesn't run her "35 years of experience" against McCain.  This too is short sighted tactics.  McCain wins with more (and better) experience.  If she graduates to the general election, she better play a different tune.
Clearly Hillary is more ready to be President than Obama.  But the two would make an unbeatable ticket.  I was reluctant about this possibility at first, but I'm getting more excited about it the more I think about it.
Obviously The Clinstones will play the board of interviewers and in the end they think they will just take on the job themselves, both Hillary and Bill, Billary the 2nd Movie, any combinations of tales of corruption, sexual scandals, fraudulous money you like to see.
This is a rather humorous and poignant point. However, it is in reverse. HRC should never be considered for the VP position, and would be a complete embarrassment as the President. The only way that she can win is to steal the nomination behind curtains...the old fashilned dirty politicds way.She is not fit to be a senator with her lies and scandals...it has already gone too far.It would be nice to actually have some integrity in the WH for awhile...she dewfintely does not meet that request. And Wolfson is a bum that should have been fired 5 times already...no one cares what he thinks about anything.
Andrea,

You just can't resist the opportunity to spread Clintonian spin; thinly veiled as it may be.

I remember when reporters just reported actual news.
Chuck Todd is just another "latte liberal" supporting Obama. He's surrounded by other big-name press types supporting Obama, so they all think that everyone oughtta support Obama.

I'm a lunch-bucket Democrat who'll vote for McCain before I vote for the media-annointed Obama.
Is there something that we the voters can do to get rid of this woman??? That's the real question!!! I am almost to the point that I would say anyone, but Clinton!!! But I really do not mean that! Obama in 08!!!
A few moments ago, Senator Obama PLAINLY answered the ridiculous Clinton suggestion that he consider the VP position, reiterating that he leads in the Popular Vote, the Delegate Count, and the number of States won. Moreover, he did so forcefully, factually, AND with class - the way a Presidential Candidate should.

Why, indeed, should he consider anything other position besides the Presidency?

Wolfson's characterizations continue to reflect the slimy schizophrenia that is inherent in any of the Clinton's past and present dealings.

Obama is proving that it is foolish to mistake hope, kindness, and class for weakness or equate persistent deception, double-dealing, and crass behavior as strength.
I have never heard such double speak before
Perhaps Wolfson's vying for the job. He's certainly demonstrated his bonafides as an attack dog without a soul.

A little off topic but since MSNBC doesn't have the guts to explore its own advocacy...

Is it me, or does this sound phony? Talk about straight-talk; this is 'forked-tongue talk'. It's so sad that this kind of talk is tolerated, that MSM can't call bs-ing for what it is. I used to like the Clintons (and what I thought they stood for), and now I'm disgusted with almost everything coming out of their campaign. But I'm not their demographic, and so why would they care?
Wasn't it just yesterday that they were pushing the idea that Obama would be an "ideal" vice-president and that would make Clinton-Obama unstoppable?!?!?

Now that they realized they made a big mistake by that statement, they're trying to back out of it.  Same old Clinton pattern of "will say and do ANYTHING" to be president.

How PATHETIC!
ahhhh.  make up Hillary's mind Mr. Wolfson
Same old double talk from the Clinton camp.  Why do people even bother to listen to this tripe?
So Obama would make a good VP choice... and he can pass the "commander in chief" threshold by this summer.  But he doesn't pass the C-I-C threshold so he isn't qualified to be President.  This is about as logical as Hillary's vote to go to war with Iraq...

And Clinton's never been a VP.  She's never had any kind of security clearance.  It's been proven that she's vastly overstating her foreign policy experience.  What exactly is this darn CIC Threshold that the Clintons keep tossing around?

As far as I'm concerned, Obama made the right decision on Iraq.  Hillary made the wrong decision.  Obama made the right decisions about Pakistan (unilateral bombing proved successful just a few weeks ago, and didn't cause any uproar at all).  Hillary got it wrong.  Hillary's still stuck in the Cold War mindset of not talking to foreign leaders you don't like.  Hillary would make a great schoolyard bully- willing to fight, expert at the silent treatment...  But I don't see how SHE passed any sort of CIC test...
On the single greatest foreign policy decision of this generation, whether or not to go into Iraq, Hillary Clinton failed miserably while Barack Obama was out there slamming the war as a blunder from the beginning.

If anyone has passed the TRUE CiC test, it is Obama. How? By adhering to the rule that ALL CiC's should follow.

Never send our troops into harms way unless there's a damn good reason.

Political expediency, cowardice, and hubris, as was the case with Hillary Clinton, George Bush, and all others who voted for that war, is not good enough.
Do you need a #2 pencil for this test?

*sigh*
I think the media should press hard on forcing congress and the senate to subpoena Clinton's memos from the Clinton library to confirm her alleged experience and involvement in policy making decisions.  Should it be determined that she and Bill have in fact made material misrepresentations, this could lead up to Hillary possibly being disbarred or grounds for disqualification as a candidate during the general election.  Furthermore, Hillary is not the only Clinton running for office, I don't understand why the media is so light on Bill and his business dealings.  The public deserves to see what's in the tax returns for Hill, Bill and the library.  Bill as well as Hillary can cause a dramatic blow to the democratic party during the general election.
Shameful.

If I was a supporter of Clinton, I'd be ashamed right now. She sounds like the last 8 years of Republican politics. More of the same from Hillary Bush.
I AM QUITE SURE OBAMA WOULD NOT BE HER FIRST CHOICE.
I DO THINK THAT IF SHE WAS PRESIDENT AND HE HER VICE, IT WOULD BE LIKE HE HAD TRAINING WHEELS .

IN 8 YEARS SHE COULD TEACH HIM HOW TO BE A GOOD PRESIDENT AND HE COULD CONTINUE WITH THE CHANGES SHE WOULD START IF SHE WERE THE PRESIDENT.

HE WOULD HAVE A VERY GOOD TEACHER.
MAYBE HE WOULD LEARN A LITTLE HUMILITY!!
SOMETHING THE POMPOUS ASS IS LACKING.

I DO THINK THEY WOULD WIN BY A LANDSLIDE VICTORY
LIKE THIS COUNTRY HAS NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

“No, we’re not saying-- it’s not something we’re not prepared to rule out at this time,” he concluded.

Wow, two double-negatives in one sentence.  I wonder if Wolfson even understands what he's saying anymore.
This is just a ploy to peel off some of the African-American voters who may be sitting on the fence. What a croc.
Obama better make himself look more electable than this or he's done.
Just wait till he gets out in the open waters of the general election! Whew! The sharks are already filing their teeth for whoever comes out of the Dem convention. Not saying I support it, but I know its coming. McCain will be the man, as always, and try to redirect enthusiasm. He may not be able to keep them from drawing blood, however.
If Barry can't handle HRC, he may not be ready for the BIG SHOW.
MAC IS BACK! A strong leader in dangerous times!
Yes, I, too, would be delighted to have the media talk about me as the head of ticket with my opponent as vice president if I, like Senator Clinton, was behind in delegates, behind in the popular vote, behind in the number of states won, was behind in fund-raising and, as we saw this weekend, my opponent had won another caucus, and this same weekend, my opponent was able to help a first-time candidate get elected in a heavily Republican Congressional district.

Oh, and by the way, stow this Clinton-generated "big state" garbage.  States that were reliably Democratic in the past will be so in November 2008. Additionally, don't Virginia, Maryland and Wisconsin count as important states?  Geez, I love how Senator Clinton now has the media convinced that if Senator Obama won a state, that state wasn't important.

Has it occurred to the media that if a candidate is winning all the factual cateories, that candidate is
winning?  I'm well educated, have university degrees, have been heavily involved in two political campaigns, have read Obama's books and Clinton's book and have read both their legislative records. I've lead troops in combat as an Army Captain and have managed several large-scale projects.

I'm NOT deluded in choosing to support Senator Obama. The Clinton's are deluded in thinking Hillary is winning. The news media seems to have bought into the same delusion. I would expect the New York Times to publish a biased article about Senator Obama to portray him as impatient to defend their New York Senator.
I really liked the moment this morning on TODAY when Andrea Mitchell started laughing during her report with Matt Lauer after seeing the SNL skit.
Hahaha caught up in your own web of bull-s*#%!

There are only two options:

1. Obama is not ready to be commander in chief on day one (a stance they like to claim but never substantiate), and therefore CANNOT be the VP because, as unlikely as it is, Hillary could die on day one, and the Barack would be the president. Although the vice-president has taken on increasing roles in contemporary politics, the position was initially created for one and only one reason: To succeed the president. For a long time in American history the VP was considered the worse job in politics because they literally did nothing as long as the president lived.

2. Obama IS ready to be commander-in-chief (a lot more then HRC I might add), and therefore is qualified to be VP. However, if that is true, well... Doesn't that mean HRC has been full of s*$@ for the last month when she claims he isn't?

Typical Billary Politics, trying to have it both ways!
I for one would like to know what this fairy tale of a Commander-In-Chief test is supposed to be...

It is clearly something made up by the Clinton campaign to make a fake point that puts their ineffective leader in an undeserved positive light.

Sound like just words to me... what a hypocrite!!
I'm not sure who's a bigger question-dodging hypocrite douchebag, Wolfson or McAuliffe.

Howard Wolfson is a really scuzzy individual, from what I have seen in this campaign. But I have to feel some sympathy in reading this. It must really suck to have to try to pretend that what you're saying makes any kind of sense. He's kind of like this year's Scott McLelland, who I also often felt sorry for.
Do we really want con artists back/remaining in the White House?
The voters did not ask this question...
Hillary said it FIRST in a Speech!
I saw it...and HEARD it with me own ears and eyes
there Wolfson!!
Another LIE by the Clinton campaign!
same thing with the not withdraw from Iraq...
another BIG LIE.
That's NOT what was said!!!
Why doesn't wolfson try the TRUTH...
in his multiple DAILY TRASH CAN CALLS...
he would be alot more credible with VOTERS...
who WATCH and READ  THE NEWS.  In the age of youtube...you can watch THE TRUTH...in all the speeches and interviews online!!!

TWO MORE BIG LIES...and COUNTING ...HOWIE!
In case anyone is interested, Mississippi's premier political blog, www.willbardwell.com, is liveblogging the Obama rally in Columbus, MS today, which includes Obama's first public comments on the suggestion of a Clinton-Obama ticket.  Will Bardwell will also be liveblogging the primary voting tomorrow across the north part of the state.  As far as I can tell, he's the only one live blogging today's Obama event as well as the MS primary voting tomorrow.  Check it out.
HEY WOLFson, what do you mean "we're not prepared to rule out at this time" rule out what? Sen. Obama being HRC veep?

This guy is living in a parallel universe.  I mean he is and always does talk with a sort confident ignorance / deception that is absolutely frightening.

Where do these sort of people come from, socialpathic. I have seen this sort of thing on the Republican side but WOW.

ATTENTION:  WOLFson!!!!!

Hillary is loosing and will certainly loose, unless the Democratic Party is bent on distroying the Party and the credability of the country at large.

They are throwing up these stupid distractions to keep reporters from asking about the taxes and asking about who was really behind NAFTAgate.

Quick questions since my posts never get posted.  But who is the Obama Communications Director? I have been watching this race the whole time and it seems you splash everything that Wolfson says all over the media and don't cover a thing the Obama Camp says. The same with the rest of the media.  I'm not going to complaign like a Hillary supporter, just wondered what their name was since I have been forced to learn who Wolfson is.
It is painfully obvious that all of the Clintons' talk about a joint ticket is nothing more than a method of pandering to the black vote in Mississippi to smudge the lines and attempt to trick the voters into believing that somehow a vote for her is really a vote for Obama.  The Clinton campaign is stooping pretty low.  And shame on you, First Read and MSNBC, for failing to headline Obama's Wyoming win, failing to report about his incredible momentum going into Mississippi, and failing to report his response to all of this joint-ticket nonsense.  Looks to me like MSNBC is doing all it can to minimize Obama, promote the Clinton lies and stir the pot.

Just watch -- as soon as Obama trounces Hillary in Mississippi, all of her false talk about a joint ticket will come to an abrupt halt, because it is only a means to an end for her -- no truth to it.

I hope the voters in Mississippi are not fooled.  Hillary is a wolf in sheep's clothing -- or, is it Wolfson clothing?!
The democrats are just TOO MESSED UP.

Hillary Clinton is NOT A FIGHTER..SHE’S A BULLY!! She would SAY & DO ANYTHING TO GET WHAT SHE WANTS. She's soo full of herself, stoop soo low as to make Obama less qualified than the Republican nominee , calling him a fairy tale, maybe a muslim, maybe a drug dealer, going around telling people to fear him, equate him to Ken Starr for crying out loud and after that she has THE ARROGANCE to imply she would consider him to be her running mate when he’s the one with more delegates, more states won, more votes. Now, that's LOW even for republicans. The Clintons would rather see their party torn apart, than having somebody else be the nominee. She has made Obama's supporters so disgusted & appalled that the thought of voting for her on any ticket would make them hurl!!! REPUBLICANS SHOULD KEEP THIS GOING, The longer the Clintons talk, the more repulsive they become, they JUST CAN’T HELP THEMSELVES.

My republican friends, WITH OUR CANDIDATE ALREADY SELECTED, LET'S MAKE SURE WE VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON! This is OUR GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY. She has screwed up her party so much, there's no way most of those new enthusiastic Obama’s supporters would vote for her come general election, those Obama republicans certainly won't, majority of independents may consider McCain but CAN’T STAND Clinton. There's NOTHING MORE ENERGIZING FOR US THAN TO VOTE AGAINST HER IN NOVEMBER (talking about turning the table to our side) She's done a PERFECT job FOR The Republican Party, LET'S REPAY HER “KINDNESS” & GIVE HER WHAT SHE WANTS. Obama's movement will be GONE (Thanks to her), and WE'LL BE THE ONE REAPING THE BENEFIT. WE WILL HAVE A MOVEMENT VOTING AGAINST HILLARY IN GENERAL ELECTION. You gotta stomach it republicans, if you’re in PA you have until March 24 to register as democrat & vote for Hillary. The outcome will so worth the sacrifice.

We should NEVER let democrats win the White House & Hillary can help us do it, SHE ALREADY HAVE, WE JUST NEED TO FINISH IT! Even after George Bush screwing up, Billary are helping us claim VICTORY in 2009. There's still HOPE for us afterall. Ooh the IRONY is just too much. One DEMOCRAT is A MONSTER and the OTHER is A LOOSER, Thanks to the Monster! Their ONLY HOPE candidate is crushed by his party MONSTER and giving US the HOPE instead. PERFECT!

THANK GOD FOR MCCAIN…, he looks BETTER & BETTER BY THE DAY! My fellow republicans let's MAKE SURE WE VOTE FOR HILLARY. This is WAY…TOO EASY to keep the White House. NO WONDER DEMOCRATS NEVER WIN. Hillary has given us OBAMA on a SILVER PLATER, & SHE WILL BE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK when SHE'S THE NOMINEE. EITHER WAY, REPUBLICAN WILL WIN! HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THAT!
This whole joint ticket nonsense is just another trick by the Clintons to trick voters that are ignorant or may be unaware of the details of this campaign.

What the hell is a Commander-in-Chief test?  I know that Bill didn't pass one before he became the president.  He was only the governor of Arkansas, so where was his foreign policy credentials.  Is she saying that her husband should not have been President either?  People please pay attention.  Sen. Clinton did NOT have a security clearance as First Lady.  CNN manufactured some fluff exaggerating her experience and people are lapping it up without doing any research.  Ask anyone except Hume (he's a Clinton shill) about the Irish peace process and you will see she is lying about her role.  This is the reason why her White House papers will remain buried.  Once again the media is allowing her to dictate the narrative and will be led like sheep until a new goalpost position is announced.

She has never handled any crisis.  She says the Monica incident was the worst thing that happened to her.  I truly doubt that is any equivalent to getting a late night call from Putin or Medvedev.  If she's going to run based on her experience, it's best that she actually have some.  Everything that she has claimed can be so easily debunked.  Do your job media!
Why is the press giving Clinton such an easy time all of a sudden? Now we are going to allow SNL to decide the election of a President? The Clinton campaign does not make any sense. The only person that has cried in this election is Hillary and now they are the one's setting the threshold. They made up a threshold that now Obama must meet and nobody knows what the factors are. Most importantly, why is the press even covering this?
The clintons are trying to get media attention by being clowns. This country has had enough of their terrible spin, word parsing, definition of is is, suspicious donors, non-transparency... The media loves it because they love a circus with a clown in it. It is about time those superdelegates step in and stop the democratic circus... this is hurting the democrats beyond repair first and foremost.
In their desperation the Clinton machine is making very stupid statements that will defeat them in the end.  I caught that gaffe when I first heard Bill Clinton utter the ridiculous idea of a Clinton-Obama match when you CANNOT have a VP on the ballot who is NOT ready to step in on day 1 and take over should it become necessary.  Add up all the cheapshots, blunders, gaffes, mis-statements, and outright lies in the Clinton campaign...it should make voters very hesitant about electing her to a position that cannot afford such things when actual decision-making comes into the picture.  Seems to me that if you don't want more of Bush politics you'll go for the candidate who is the REAL change candidate - Barack Obama.
When will you people get it through your very thick, (and I do mean THICK) skulls that Obama's lead in terms of delegates and popular vote is tainted.
a) His "lead" in the popular vote consists of states in which there were both primaries and caucuses, which means that some people's votes were counted TWICE.
b)Caucuses are not an accurate way to judge a particular state party's desires because of the various ways they can be manipulated.
c)Independents and republicans have participated in caucuses and some primaries. But, this is the Democratic nomination we're talking about here. If independents and GOP types want to vote for our candidate in the fall, that's fine.
But when it comes to nominating our party's candidate, the wishes of independents and republicans should come secondary to the wishes of the core voters who are registered with The Democratic Party.
Saudis, Arabs Funneled Millions to President Clinton's Library

How's the Peter Paul vs Clinton lawsuit proceeding?

I believe that this is another dirty trick by the Cinton's to undermind Obama.  Do they think that the people of MIssissippi are so dumb that they belive this? I am just waiting for the day when the public sees the Clinton's for what they are. Let's have their payday someday before they ruin the Democratic party.
Why is this an usual topic to consider?  We have seen from history that a VP is often a pick from the litter of presidential candidates?  Someone who is not as good as the first choice and can use some more seasoning.  For example, John Edwards was picked as a VP after he dropped out of the last race.

.....and by the way, I don't want Obama on the ticket at all, in any capacity.
I won't vote for the Democratic ticket of he's on it as either Pres. candidate, or VP candidate.
