First thoughts: Albany shocker

*** Albany Shocker: The Spitzer story is something that is simply shocking. But like the other recent sex scandals -- Vitter’s and Craig’s -- this one is likely to have very little national effect, unless Spitzer decides to stay in office. Assuming a fairly quick resignation, this will fade into being only a fascinating New York City/Albany story with a new star being born, Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who would become governor. The trouble only starts if Spitzer won't go, then he risks having prominent New Yorkers like Hillary Clinton being forced to call for his resignation and putting him in an even more precarious position. By the way, for those wondering, Spitzer is a superdelegate, as is Paterson. Both have endorsed Clinton. Should Spitzer resign, the number of superdelegates will simply be subtracted by one, since there's no provision in New York for a lieutenant governor to be replaced until the next election.

Video:  NBC's Political Director Chuck Todd offers his first read on the likelihood N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer will resign; plus Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton battle.

*** The Magnolia match up: Can Obama win yet another state and pick up some more momentum heading into Pennsylvania? Could he win by such a margin that he erases the net delegates Clinton gained from her victories last week? Or can Clinton pull off the upset in a state Obama is favored to win? We’ll find out the answers to these questions in today’s Mississippi primary, where 33 pledged delegates are at stake. Polls open at 8:00 am ET and close at 8:00 pm ET.

*** Turning Mississippi blue? Take a look at Alabama (Obama won it by 14 points), Georgia (by 35 points), Louisiana (by 21 points) and South Carolina (by 28 points), and you'll get an idea about Obama's likely margin of victory. Frankly, if Clinton keeps Obama under 15 points, she may have a moral victory. That said, it wouldn't be surprising if Obama won by 20-plus points considering the makeup of Mississippi's electorate. In fact, Mississippi is one of those rare Southern states that might be in play in the general election if Obama becomes the nominee. One Dem statistician tells First Read that there are three red states that could swing if African-American turnout was ever maximized (both in registration and in actual turnout): Georgia, Louisiana and, yes, Mississippi. So don't assume this is just one of those untouchable red states for the Dems when watching returns roll in tonight.

Video: NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports on the Democratic battle today in Mississippi's primary.

*** Veep chatter: The big Clinton-Obama story yesterday was Obama pushing back against the idea that he would be Clinton’s vice president. Interestingly, Clinton supporter Ed Rendell seemed to backtrack a bit more than anyone else in the Clinton campaign when he admitted that he thinks Clinton would make a good veep for Obama. "It would be great and either way,” he said, per NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones. He added: "Whether it was Sen. Obama for the president and Sen. Clinton for vice president or vice versa. I think it would be great." While many analysts have picked up on this Clinton storyline as proof Clinton is trying to diminish Obama, don't assume this isn't ALSO an attempt by the Clintons to remind Obama that she should be considered for the veep slot if he's the nominee. It appears more likely every day that Clinton's Plan B is the VP slot, not Senate majority leader as so many others have speculated.

*** When surrogates attack: As Samantha Power’s “monster” comment to the Scotsman taught us, sometimes a remark by an adviser/surrogate to a fairly untraditional media outlet can produce a political firestorm. Will this statement by Clinton supporter Geraldine Ferraro spark a similar controversy? "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," Ferraro told Torrance CA’s Daily Breeze. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept." The Clinton campaign quickly distanced itself from this comment, because this is a slippery slope argument that could be demeaning to both Clinton and Obama.

*** Obama playing offense: Yesterday, Obama resurrected the Somali garb story, accusing the Clinton campaign of leaking the photo that made its way to Drudge, NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan notes.  Obama said, "… when in the midst of a campaign you decide to throw the kitchen sink at your opponent because you're behind and your campaign starts leaking photos of me when I'm traveling overseas, wearing, in native clothes of those folks to make people afraid." Obama was very matter of fact about this -- the first time he's been this way on a story that hasn’t proven to be true.

*** The Rezko headache: Obama’s name came up tangentially at the Rezko trial yesterday -- regarding nominations to an Illinois health planning board. At a minimum, Obama's name is being mentioned just enough that the trial is going to provide a blueprint for some reporters to write some negative stories about Obama.

*** On the trail: Clinton, in Pennsylvania, stumps in Harrisburg and Philadelphia before returning to DC later in the evening; McCain is in the potential battleground state of Missouri, campaigning in St. Louis; and Obama holds a town hall in Fairless Hills, PA.

Obammawannabes calm down you have said you will violently react if your man isnt in. You already did in Hilliary and the democratic party . Cant wait to see you attack macain with your new MONSTER politics A WAR HERO served his country other than campaigning every two years like obama.
Jaycee,
I just like your posts more and more.  I always thought Clinton was fine as POTUS, but after personally attacking Barack AND comparing him unfavorably with McCain I was just...done.
"It would never happen, but if Obama had Clinton as Veep, he would be shielded from every racist lunatic who'd want to shoot him down, because with Clinton a heartbeat away from the throne, no one would want to see Obama killed."Class warrior, D.C. (Sent Tuesday, March 11, 2008 9:42 AM)

You need to read through some of these Clinton supporter post again and make a new evaluation of that statement.

Also gotta figure in the Black racist who might want Hillary if Obama turned out to be Bill Cosby.

Things aren't always so black and white my friend :-)
The news article stated Spitzer was moving money from "several accounts" to pay for the services he desired.  Does anyone know if these accounts were personal accounts, or state funds accounts?  If personal, why should that attract attention?  The amount of money coming out was not much more than a monthly mortgage, so what do you think the real story is about finding him through tracking his transfers?
Hillary is trying to hide the obvious

Hillary VOTED FOR THE IRAQ WAR
Hillary SUPPORTED THE IRAQ WAR
Hillary DEFENDED THE IRAQ WAR

Then, Hillary FLIP FLOPPED ON THE IRAQ WAR

What is the value of Hillary's supposed 'experience'?

Hillary doesn't have the judgement to run America's 'ship of state'
Hillary is too ditzy and disorganized to learn for her mistakes.....
Hillary VOTED FOR WAR WITH IRAN
Hillary put HER TRUST in GEORGE BUSH on IRAN

Hillary VOTED FOR THE IRAQ WAR
Now, she's trying to cover that up

What is the meaning of 'is' ?
Lets ignore half the democratic party "she isnt the change america wants "he is so high and mighty.Well it is an interesting tactic aleinate half the people you need to vote for you in the general."Her people will vote for me but my people wont vote for her" sounds like a UNITER to me hey7 are the republicans,BUSH MACAIN AND ALL THE PEOPLE or the democrats KERRY AND EDWARDS AND HILLIARY and the people that supported the demos the ones who drove  the bus in the ditch that OBAMA so lightly calls a ditch thats actually a war where people die everyday 8 yesterday thanks for the funding obama and dont cut it off anytime soon.
THE DREAM TICKET IS A NIGHTMARE: '...Agreed !

Clinton/Spitzer......
I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN

I was with Chelsea
Clinton did NOT pick up delegates last week. Please stop printing this Clinton talking point. When all the Texas caucuses were counted, and everything else, Obama picked up 3-4 more than Clinton did. Chuck Todd, please review your math. You've been good at it so far.
Obama has been named in the Resko trial several times now and its only started.Do we want a pres. that says he will surrond himself with the best to give him the advise he needs.Best?Ayres,Renko,Farrakhan,Rev.Write and Auchi? Than he is changeing old politics by useing Kennedy,Kerry and Dodd. His own people tell other countries he is only saying what people here want to hear.He doesnt mean it .More than once too.I think he is starting to tarnish.People better jump off his bandwagon before more comes out and they  cannt disassociate. He bases his campaign on THAT vote and how his judgement is so much better than tells us oops judgement not so good on Resko etc.Look and learn study here in Obama
Hey Jaycee should sell her wordsmithing to a commercial instead of wasting it in some not for profit or god forbid the education mill.
Wow! What an eye-opener this campaign season has been for a poor, delusional, fairy-tale, fantasyland, Pollyanna, pie-in-the-sky nice, black Democratic like me. Here I thought we were all a united party and we'd all get behind a candidate that has shown he's got the stuff ON ALL LEVELS.

But, sigh, I guess not. Instead, said candidate gets denigrated by his own party (Hi, Geraldine!) for being "just black and lucky" and his supporters are labeled "just emotional and not right thinking in their support" of this "just black" candidate.

Silly me! Why didn't I think to go Independent sooner!
mad in Madtown: '... If you're guilty, do the right thing, resign, Governor Spitzer.  Please don't take your cues from the likes of Vitter and Craig....'

Or Bill Clinton
Don't say: 'I did not have sex with that woman'

I hope all of Pennsylvania is watching this Spitzer fiasco very closely. Elect Hillary and that's what you'll get - Four more years of Travelgate, Whitewater, Marc Rich, Kazakstan Uranium Deals, etc.
It is now the day after Geraldine Ferraro said the following: "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," Ferraro told Torrance CA’s Daily Breeze. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept." Where is the uproar in the Clinton camp? This is obviously a racist comment and Hillary isn't standing up against it?
Remember that Hillary is a control freak. Nothing happens without her approval. She is now subtlely now introducing another dirty trick into the campaign.
Power's spoke the truth, but it was inappropriate so she had to resign. Ferraro introduces race into the campaign, but it is tolerated by Hillary.
Hillary - what a tool!!!! You are definitely becoming more like Nixon every day.
Seirra how will he end a war he continues to fund ,I know he not going to abandon the troops thats what I heard last time I brought up his support of funding. When he becomes the man how will he end the war without cutting funds just pull out who and how many are staying to support the EMbassey from constant attack how will we go back in if as OBAMMA stated if al queda wont leave Iraq ,I know they are already there that wasnt my idea but i live with facts SO how is obamma going to get out of a war he is FUNDING that seems like the biggest flip flop of all.But the troops need the money thats why he gave them authorization to continue the war MACAIN 08 a real warrior when we need one.
JOHN EDWARDS ,figure there is a guy who whished he was black he would have been the pick but obaamma is black and they wont vote for a white guy with the same ideas and more experience thats just how it went too bad JOHN better luck with the populace next time.
It's amazing how MSNBC pundits can connect everything from power outage to Spitzer night tryst and point fingers on Hillary Clinton.

Is it Hillary Clinton's problem that Spitzer can't keep it in his pants or is it Barack Obama's problem that Tony Rezko is tied to the Iraqi Oil for food corruption through  his association with Nadhmi Auchi.

Lets see if MSNBC continues to make this connection to Hillary in the next 48 hours, then we can safely say who is the tank for whom
"It appears more likely every day that Clinton's Plan B is the VP slot, not Senate majority leader as so many others have speculated."
-------------------

She's already burned that bridge, and quite frankly I find it hilariously ironic. She can't go out and campaign for someone who she has already argued isn't qualified for the position. She let her blind ambition destroy her only chance to really make history.
Clinton/Craig/Spitzer: What's new? What'a different?
It's the Geriatric phenomenon; old age withers the testicles, causing amnesia and rebound nightmares. The same old regimen is not good enough so they invision a new frolic will make them anew. It's a VOID felt by old politicians not getting their way. The Democrats suffer from it most. The more common term is Henpeckitis, affect logical thinking. It happens to convicts and those thinking of becoming a one.
DEMORATS spitser is your man, vitter is a republican maybe everyone should stop acting holier than thou and vote independant
Obama brought in the race card and no one else.He lied and turned everyone he could into raceist followers. Hillary was saying it takes both dreams and work to bring about change and she should know because she has.In order to discredit her and Bill he yelled (she is dishonering King) that was a lie but it worked to turn blacks for him and minimize anything Bill or Hillary had to say.Dont be saying it was Hillary. He wasnt even in this country when she heard King in person and started to work for civil rights. This whole lie is really pathetic.Old political move to deminish opponents and unite Blacks at same time. It worked like a dream.Even pollisters since have automatically given states with large Black population to Obama and he rolls in it and relishes it.Put it where it belongs. His wife is kept in background cause she has problem with whites i think.but Now she is proud her hubby will change it all.
Barack Obama has been handling this so well because he's dealt with it his entire life.Let's look here, he's running against 3 Clinton's, John McCain, GWB, RNC, The MSM, none of them have been able to Reduce him to their level. That's why his supporter's know he'll make a gr8 POTUS.
I, like many of his supporter's have been amazed at his Resilency at the incoming fire from all angles. He does'nt have surragates out campaigning in every (Significant)state ahead of their primary. He does it all on his own, saying " Hey, I can handle This, I'm Used to It".
3 & 1/2 month's into the primary season, Hillary & her band of Illiterates(HP,J.Merle,Shutey, Patty) still can't tell us why they think Hillary should be POTUS. They only have the Smartelic remark's, which they love to Double post, for some reason.
I'm guessing that in 3-4 year's, Spitzer's wife will be running for New York's Govenor, since she is Now the Disgraced Wife who think's she can use that to her advantage.

In the State of Denial, Hillary has an Overwhelming Lead which Barack will have to have a Complete Mental breakdown(ala Hillary)to catchup before the Convention of the 12-14 states of Denial hold their Prozac Nomination.
