Dems to focus on 'jobs, jobs, jobs'

From NBC’s Wendy Jones
Flanked by an ironworker and green-energy company official, several members of Congress talked this morning about Democratic budget priorities.

As Sen. Debbie Stabenow put it, last year the focus was on college education, children's health insurance and veterans' health care: this year it's "jobs, jobs, jobs." Especially green-collar jobs. "If we want to have the vehicle of the future...to meet CAFE standards...we need battery storage...China, Korea and Japan are funding these advanced battery initiatives at hundreds of times the rate we are...."

Coming from Michigan, Stabenow noted: "Ford created the first hybrid, the Ford Escape...but they had to go to Japan for the battery. We don't want to change from dependence on foreign oil to dependence on foreign batteries."

Sen. Ted Kennedy warned that "In all the time I've been in the Senate, I've never seen the kind of anxiety I am seeing now among American workers...they've worked hard, they've played by the rules...they've volunteered to go to Iraq and Afghanistan, and now they face the perfect storm and wonder who is going to do something about it."

His (and the Democrats' solution): "We are committed to having every worker have the skills to compete in the global economy."

Rep. Xavier Becerra (CA) blamed the credit card mentality of the Bush Administration: "How can we invest in new industries...if we are going it at someone else's expense ... foreigners are becoming our creditors."

Wearing a hard hat, ironworker Mark Kohls complained that "We spend $12 million [sic] a month in Iraq...yet we struggle to fund infrastructure in this area...we build the bridges...if we don't fund the projects, guys like me have to struggle."

Finally, Mark Wagner explained that his company, Johnson Controls, wants to expand its research facility in Milwaukee: "We want to build a lithium ion plant here in the US....far too often, we develop the technology and it goes overseas."

Renewable energy is expensive...making a plug-in [vehicle] affordable means bringing the battery price down..."and that takes a lot of effort."

Ronald Reagans theory of trickle down economics has not worked, as billionair Warren Buffet testified before Congress "it has not trickled down" but has flowed out of county in a steady stream as corporate America has sought to expand it's profits by relying on near slave labor states that have no worker rights or environmental policies. Reaganomics brought on the late 1980s recession that cost Bush senior the presidency and it's continued practice is responsible for the current recession which will go much deeper because millions of good paying manufacturing jobs have been replaced with low paying service jobs that will make recovery much slower.                       If these unfair trade practices are not stopped soon America's bank account will be drained dry, we cannot continue to buy twice as much as we take in and hope to survive. The only way to curb the outsourcing of jobs and wealth is to place tariffs on products that bear American trade marks but are manufactured abroad. And if that does not curb the outsourcing of jobs atleast America will be able to narrow it's losses through the tariffs.                           The question now is do any of the candidates viaing for president have the backbone to take on corporate America without horse trading away more American jobs?
Stabenow is a dingbat. The reason, dear Debbie, that we go to China and Japan to get our batteries,is for the same reason that you and other Dems went after American battery companies in the 1980s-present. Ecological concerns deriving from the componants used in battery manufacture, and the risk to the health of female employees dwelling upon their reproductive systems. Again,Democrats[and their tort lawyer pals], made this scene. Not Republicans.[Then too, nickel, used for the new energy-alternative series of latest-generation Lithium car batteries that Stabenow also focuses on,must be mined.China is doing it,as is Korea, where Japan imports nickel. Anyone care to place bets on how mining figures into enviro and eastern liberal concerns right about now?[Kennedy, for his portion, has no room to talk. [Neither does Becerra, who wants an 8% royalty placed on mining operations in the US that would include ''nickel'',thus destroying tens of thousands of American highpaying jobs and placing the US in thrall to foreign metals providers]The eastern seaboard windmill blueprint would have employed thousands of Americans and provided clean energy but was torpedoed by aforementioned Kennedy because he and the other Brahmin nabobs didnt want windmills mucking up the view from Hyannisport].

I CAN'T AFFORD A 30k hybrid-and don't wanna live in "HIGH DENSITY" housing with ILLEGALS-to bike to work.

GO TO HELL REPUBLICRATS/DEMICANS.
The Republican trade policies are anti-American.  No, let me correct that, all of the Republican policies are anti-American and anti-America.  They have sold out our nation with their tax cuts (yes boys and girls, the Republicans have sold your country out from right under your feet, not to mention your jobs).  They are traitors.

Now Democrats, stop attacking each other and go after the Bush Administration and McCain.

Grow-Up, talk about acting like a child. Typical name calling low life republican. Talk about a party that needs to Grow-up. Grow-up, you are such a predictable repuke child. That is some really insightfull stuff you said. Did you use any facts or documented truths in your response. No, it was actually a real childish response from someone named Grow-Up. Go home and come back when you do grow up and learn to respect other people and their beleifs. To use typical republican name calling is so stupid, old , and basically my 12 year old acts older than you. I beleive most of Obama's following are young college students. They are smarter than your average ameircan and that scares you Grow-up doesn't it. That smart, thoughtful, and energetic people support Obama. You would like to dismiss Obama followers, but guess what, they are not going away. So keep up the childish name calling, hate mongering, and do not forget to throw in some fear factor. These are what republicans are proud of and best at doing.
I wish it were November 5th. That way all this crap would be over with.

BEAM ME UP SCOTTY - THERE'S NO INTELLIGENT LIFE HERE.
Todd from Vicksburg MI ...
JC is too smart to take this job.
raising taxes, Luther?  why don't you look at the economy and what you pay in taxes now.  Have you looked at what it costs to fill up your festiva?

You republicans really fall for that line-- hook, line and sinker.  You know who's getting the biggest tax break... it's the wealthiest few and big business.  Find a tax calculator out there and see what you would pay if you made above 300k and compare it to what you would pay if you made >75k... then get back to me about raising taxes.
Wow, the truth should let many free.  The bottom line many cant see Obama is the best choice for president is because of the color of skin.  Sad and heartbreaking, however being an African-American I see it clearly now.  Clintons had started this in Louisiana and it keeps becoming more and more obvious, as long as one comes out the closet others follow.  Obama cant make America better because too many dont want it to be better.  The terrorist are not only in Iraq its here, judging people because of the ethnic background - wake up America or those who call them selves American.  Hidden racism is what makes me fearful.
Jobs, jobs, jobs are going, going, gone, because of Bush's mismanagement of the economy by giving it to the rich to rape and plunder. They get richer and the rest of us get increasingly unemployed.  And I STILL haven't heard from Jerry in Corpus Christie about why this is so...!
I don't remember who said it, but it rings true, "Show me your budget and I will tell you what you value."  In this case, I think that the Republicans don't value the US people very much since there has been a great lack of support of the science that will get us back to the Moon and Mars; there has been little in the way that the government has done to support local industry with research and development.  There are many more examples that include unfunded mandates; if you want something done, help pay for it.  I just don't think that there is really anything such as "compassionate conservatism."  Bush is an authoritarian (I'm in charge and if you don't like it, I'll call you an American hater) like many "conservatives out there like Hannity and Limbaugh.
kind of late isnt it.....if you were doing your job we wouldnt be where we are....THANKS for taking care of yourselves while we tryed to take care of ourselves and not depend on washington....But now you care, sorry to late look at the damage done by the do nothing congress....no i shouldnt say that a lot are running for re election so they will be tell you how great they are and show a little concern.....Thanks again for just being in washington and doing nothing.
When you think about it, the comment is so far off what Hillary has been saying all along "He's not fit to be Commander and Chief, He's just speeches. . ."  No wonder Hillary didn't have a real problem with a racist comment.

However, I personally would want a working man like me to be president.  Obama is a working man's man. Let me prove it---check out the record below.

Who's the best?  Obama's the best.  Take a look you sad Clintonites and you'll see that Obama did more in 8 months then most senators do in a lifetime of service.  That's the kind of president I want working for me.

The following information gathered from the Library of Congress on the Legislative experience Junior Senator Hillary Clinton and Junior Senator Barack Obama. Please Feel free to check these records for yourself and draw your own conclusion.

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term, which is 6 years and another year campaigning, has authored and passed 20 twenty pieces of legislation in her term of six years into law. These bills can be found at (wwwthomas.loc.gov).  Senator Clinton has passed.

(1) Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
(2) Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
(3) Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
(4) Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
(5) Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
(6) Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
(7) Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
(8) Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
(9) Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
(10) Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
(11) Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
(12) Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.

(14) Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
(15) Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.

Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive.
(16) Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
(17) Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
(18) Assist landmine victims in other countries.
(19) Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
(20) Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

She has a nice list, but note that these are The Fact's straight from the Senate Record; Therefore, it is not made up.

Now, It is time to post Senator Obama's record from the Library of Congress.I have to mention that Senator Obama's list is too substantive, one is coalesced to categorize. Since its alot, remember you can go to the Library of Congress website, and check it out yourself, but I am just summarizing his first 8 months.

During Senator Obama's first 8 eight months of elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.

He introduced 233 bills regarding healthcare reform,
125 bills on poverty and public assistance,
112 bills on crime fighting,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
In his first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
(1)the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 that became LAW,
(2)The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act that became LAW, (3)The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that passed the Senate,
(4)The 2007 Government Ethics Bill that became LAW,
(5)The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill that is in committee just to name a few.

In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record.  Read the facts and not emotion.
