Just in case Gov. Eliot Spitzer at any point does end up resigning, here's a little nugget about the history that would be made with Lt. Gov. David Paterson taking office:

IF David Paterson, who is also legally blind, is sworn in, he would become the first African-American governor of New York, but also only the FOURTH African-American governor of a U.S. state in history. Of the previous three, two of the governors were elected (Deval Patrick and Douglas Wilder) and one ascended from his position as lieutenant governor because of scandal (P.B.S. Pinchback).

- Gov. Deval Patrick (Massachusetts) became governor in January 2007 after being elected in November 2006; he is currently the only African American to serve as governor of a U.S. state.

- Gov. Douglas Wilder (Virginia) became governor in January 1990 after being elected in November 1989; he was the first African American to be elected governor.

- Gov. Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback (Louisiana) became the first African-American governor in American history in December 1872; he was the president of the state senate and took over the job as lieutenant governor when the occupant of that office died in 1871, and then a year later he became governor after then-governor Henry Clay Warmoth was impeached and suspended; Pinchback served for five weeks between December 1872 and January 1873, at which time Warmoth's term expired

Here is Paterson's official bio:
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON
Biography

DAVID A. PATERSON David A. Paterson was elected New York's 74th Lieutenant Governor on November 7, 2006. As Lieutenant Governor, Paterson leads the administration's charge in several critical areas. He focuses on stem cell research, alternative energy, reducing domestic violence, and increasing the role minority- and women-owned businesses play in New York State. Governor Spitzer chose Paterson to be his running mate because Paterson had a strong record of championing issues such as these for over the two decades he served in the New York State Senate.

Throughout a long career in public service, Lieutenant Governor Paterson has demonstrated an ability to effect change at every level and has been a strong progressive leader for all New Yorkers. Lieutenant Governor Paterson entered public life in 1985 when he began representing Harlem in the New York State Senate. In 2002, he became its Minority Leader -- the first non-white legislative leader in New York's history. He made history again in 2004 when he became the first visually impaired person to address the Democratic National Convention. And in 2006 Mr. Paterson was elected New York's first African-American lieutenant governor.

Lieutenant Governor Paterson, who is legally blind, is nationally recognized as a leading advocate for the visually and physically impaired. He is a member of the American Foundation for the Blind, serves as a member of the Democratic National Committee and is a board member of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. In addition, he is a member of the board of the Achilles Track Club, having completed the New York City Marathon in 1999.

Lt. Governor Paterson was born May 20,1954 in Brooklyn, NY to Portia and Basil Paterson, the first non-white secretary of state of New York and the first African-American vice-chair of the national Democratic Party. The Lt. Governor earned his bachelor's degree in History from Columbia University, graduating in 1977, and completed his J.D. at Hofstra Law School in 1982. He continues to give back to his alma mater by serving as an adjunct professor at Columbia's School for International and Public Affairs. David Paterson lives in Harlem with his wife, Michelle Paige Paterson, and their two children, Ashley and Alex. Ashley entered Ithaca College in fall, 2006, and Alex, attends public school in New York City.

I RECALL not being able to see the BAY AREA foothills-during falls of ~30 years ago-THANKS TO AUTO emissions.

THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE WITH AUTO EMISSIONS!! IT'S ABOUT CORPORATE GREED ON THE BACKS OF AMERICAN CITIZENS.
I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR SEX LIFE!!! BUT SINCE YOU MADE IT AND(the sex lives of others)an issue:

GET THE HELL OUT OF OFFICE-and let's get MARION BARRY IN THERE.
I think hillary is loosing ground and she has to go on the attack to build a case for why she's a better candidate.
Evenif she was the nominee I would vote for Mcain or Obama over Hillary, She has tons of baggage.
Hillary is the best person for the job,I hope this country wakes up before it is to late, obama is runing on hopes and dreams that is not enough to lead this country in the shape that it is in at the present time, he needs to run in 8 years when he has more time on the job .
It sounds like, with the limited biography given, that should Spitzer step down, NY would be in good hands with David Paterson.  He sounds like a reasonable and upstanding man.

This seems a little like the mistake that Bill Clinton made.  The problem for Spitzer is that he set a high standard for himself.  When you set a high standard publicly, the mistakes will bring you down harder than if you didn't.
The reason Spitzer needs to resign is the money laundering issue more than the prositution thing.  But let's get back to his hypocrisy.  In 2004 - he prosecuted people for the same thing - calling it "disgusting".  His arrogance has gotten him into trouble and he needs to step down asap.
WAY TO GO --KB  the fish rots from the head down and it is appalling that the so called moral criers for BO are the most often sacrilegious, self righteous and vicious ------- morons, based on many comments above and archives of endless MO'MONSTER TRASH TALK.

***request that if any lawyers are on this site please look into the use of Pres B Clinton's name above.  Is that not a civil, or federal offense to use someone else's name, especially that of a PUBLIC FIGURE.  Do any of these offenders hve any respect  for the office of the Presidency???

It will be a relief if this post gets used becuz 1rst Read has not always posted what is submitted, even though they seem like good folk.
Also, to all of you mobbishly styled condemners, even the Wonderful MLK had allegedly done "immoral" deeds, ie affairs, etc, yet it does not diminish his Greatness and the reminder that even us lesser figures need compassion.
Given the emphasis put on the importance of winning big states, and the fact that Mrs. Clinton thinks she’s ahead, I think people find this numerical analysis very interesting:

Consider the top 13 “big” states that have voted so far

In the overall contest to March 10th, majority of Obama’s delegate lead comes from beating Hillary in the aggregate of the 13 largest contests 8-5.  Maybe someone crazy will claim these 13 states are overwhelmingly African American. These stats deal with the “black voter theory”, the “unelectable theory” the “caucuses theory”, the “small states theory” the patronizing “vice president theory”. Enough said.
I believe that a great world leader once said, "Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but consider not the beam that is in thine own eye." He also said, "He that is without sin cast the first stone."  Take heed politicians!!
Why does Spitzer have to resign, when David Vitter and Larry Craig are still in the Senate? And isn;t John McCain running fo President?
Paterson is no better. He is as see through as any other politician. Dont let his disability fool you. He gets around..he is nice enough however to hire the women he fools around with , though. Ive seen it.
KB---you betcha they are----it snowed here today---those$%##$$$ Clintons. If Obama was president it would not have snowed. If we praise Obama they will love and embrace us---you see what happens when we do not.
