Hillary on the attack in PA

Posted: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 2:05 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- After kicking off her Pennsylvania campaign with a positive speech to an energetic crowd in the northeastern part of the state yesterday, Hillary Clinton brought the fight against Obama here to the capital on Tuesday, hitting her rival on energy policy, NAFTA and Iraq and reprising her campaign's latest attack theme that paints him as a man of talk and not action.

Moments before the event was scheduled to begin in a packed auditorium here, the theme to "Rocky" blasted through the speakers, that classic movie about a fighter that was set in the Keystone State. The New York senator portrays herself as a leader who is ready to fight to get things done.

Today, she began by linking the wisdom of the nation's founders to her campaign.

"Right out of Pennsylvania came so much of the genius that created our government," she said, "and it was a unique combination of the lofty goals and values that kept us looking toward a better tomorrow and an understanding of what it would take. I think we're at a turning point moment in American history right now where we are called upon to look toward the future with confidence and optimism, but to understand what it will take, the hard work to translate all of those hopes and dreams into the reality of people's lives right here in Harrisburg. That is what my campaign is about."

And she continued the hope versus hard work theme she's been highlighting for months now, as she spoke about making a better future for America's children.

"We can't just hope that it happens," she said. "We can't just wish it happens. We can't just gaze heavenward and cross our fingers that it happens. We have to be prepared to work for that future. That's going to require, first and foremost, a new president in the White House."

Clinton focused on the economy and the need to create more good paying jobs and went on to lay out her agenda on healthcare, education and ending the war in Iraq, before turning her attention to Obama.

"Today my opponent is here in Pennsylvania talking about energy policy, and I think specifically talking about wind energy and that's great," she said, "except in 2005 when we had a chance to say 'no' to Dick Cheney and his energy bill, my opponent said 'yes' and voted for it with all of those tax subsidies and giveaways that have been used by the oil companies and others to retard the development of clean, renewable energy. Really when you think about what we have to do, it's not gonna happen just by asking people. It's not gonna happen just by saying don't we all agree. We're going to have to fight to make the changes against the special interests that dominate Washington.

"In Ohio, we just finished a campaign talking about NAFTA and trade. I have said I will renegotiate NAFTA. I will make sure it reflects what we have learned over the last 14 years and my opponent said one thing in Ohio and then his top economic advisor told the Canadian government, don't worry what he says, that's just politics. You know, the same thing happened about Iraq. I've been saying I will start to withdraw our troops within 60 days. My opponent has said that he'll have them all out within 16 months and then one of his top foreign policy advisors tells that foreign press, well don't pay any attention to that, that's just talk during the campaign. I gotta tell you, there's a big difference between talk and action, but if you're going to talk then you ought to mean what you say, so people can count on it."

Monday in Scranton, Clinton never mentioned Obama by name, referring only to "my opponent" when speaking about the differences between their healthcare plans. Today, the campaign telegraphed her planned attacks on Obama by sending out excerpts of her Harrisburg speech to reporters several hours before the senator arrived here, but her actual comments, which came near the very end of her 35-minute speech, were more brief than her prepared remarks.

The experience argument remains central and something her surrogates talk about consistently. Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed opened the event, saying that experience mattered.

"The Republicans have selected their candidate," Reed said. "John McCain is a good man, and there is zero, zero doubt, ladies and gentleman, the central theme of his campaign will be his experience. We cannot allow us to be vulnerable on this point. We must not allow doubt to determine the outcome. Experience does count. Hillary Clinton has it."

Clinton didn't forget to mention her roots in this state, where she spent time as a child, sprinkling her remarks with references to her family and fond memories.

Dream Ticket - Hillary and Spitzer: They even like each other and will be comfortable in each other's company.
Last week, Clinton basically stated publicly that she purposes the same qualities as McCain.  So how does Clinton want to run against McCain?

It only confirms that McCain would blow Clinton away in a match-up.  Democrats should wise up and read the tea leaves.
Why was Hillary in such a hurry to leave Mississippi, when she has weeks to campaign in Pennsylvania?
Hillary is lying about her Bosnia trip.

So Hillary has said she is tested because of her "harrowing" experience in Bosnia.

In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."

Well, I just love this line from the comedian Sinbad who accompanied her:

"What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"

He said the "scariest" part of the trip was wondering where he'd eat next. "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'"

Sounds like the Hillary is, once AGAIN, distorting reality.

This time the joke is on her.

Hillary is a genius in politics.  She already knows what she will face in the White House.  I'm a firm believer of "experience is the best teacher".  She definitely has the experience and the guts to stand up for our country.  She's proved that over and over. She's not afraid to go after what she believes and she'll move heaven and earth to make it the right decisions for this country.  Remember this when you vote.
Yes...McCain and Obama have showed their experience for a CHANGE!! Their characters and ethics to RISE ABOVE the negative, personal attack...good ole boys...same old...same old...politics!!
McCain's spokesperson said "John McCain REJECTS Steve King,R, Iowa, for the type of politics that DEGRADES OUR CIVICS".
Obama has accepted the resignations of Samantha Powell and now another campaign worker for an E-mail sent within the campaign about the Clinton Sex Scandal in the 90's.  Obama saying "This type of thing has NO place in MY campaign!!"
And when Geraldine Ferraro made a comment LAST week about Obama being a lucky black man, if he was a WHITE man he wouldn't be where he is now...."  The Clinton spokesperson said YESTERDAY "We don't agree with her".
BIG difference between the THREE campaigns and how they react to negative, degrading words used by supporters!
There is only ONE campaign who makes excuses for supporters, splits hairs, and goes on business as usual with decpetions, innuendos, and attack after attack!
You can find a "fighter" down at the corner pub...but that doesn't mean they have STRENGTH, wisdom, character or morals!!

Hillary Clinton, you can campaign all you want, make all the speeches you want, spend millions of dollars attacking Barack Obama if you want.

The fact of the matter is we like him. We do not want someone who has been in DC their whole life.

That's the problem. You guys all think alike and act alike.

And what gets done - not a thing.

This country is in a mess. That is precisely why Senator Obama is running for President.

We need some new energy and a different mindset in the White House.

Barack Obama/Jim Webb 2008
You have ALL been there too long.
go ahead PA. vote for hillary. then watch her lose in november and watch mccain keep the bush tax cuts and keep nafta as is. it's kind of like people from ohio complaining about their economic plight when they voted for bush in 2000 and 2004. dumb people get what they deserve.
Hillary is very smart and everyone I have talked to is voting for her. We need her in the White House to clean up the mess that has taken place. Hillary all the way!!!
I like Hillary. She is so pristine that her bathroom does not even have an exhaust fan it. She never leaves her toothpaste tube without the lid on it. These are just a few of the great attributes that make her ready on day one.
People please, this is a presidential race. If Obama cannot take attacks from Hillary, he will certainly not be able to withstand the heat from Mc Cain and the Republicians, if he wins the Democractic nomination. I understand Karl Rove is now working with the Republican so he better get ready and learn how to respond with something more than glib attempts at humor.
If I stand by and watch a bunch of firemen put out a fire, does that give me the experience to be a fireman?  Her experience is standing around and watching hubby do stuff (rather well, too!), and tried, and failed, to craft a health caresolution to get through a GOP-dominated Congress.  Other than that, she has NO experience!!
Hillary Clinton is an open book......... Obama will not answer questions that people want to know about.

Rezco, William Ayers, BLack racist Pastor, all black racist church.

Why should anyone vote for a man who is so secretive?  What's the problem with answering the media's questions? Now or Later.......he WILL have to answer them.

I hope Obama wins.
If he doesn't, it's either
100 years in Iraq or 4 years of Hillary.
Tough call.

Okay now Sen Clinton is truly playing the American people for stupid and it is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Doesn't she realize that the Canadian Government came out and said it was the Clinton Campaign that contacted them?  This is so ridiculous or her to continue to bring up something that pointed to her.  I am just appauled that she even thinks the American people are just that stupid.  I mean am I the only person seeing this?  She still goes on about experience but wants Sen Obama as a running mate.  So duh if Sne Obama has no experience then why would you mention him as being a running mate when Bill Clinton was running for President said his running mate criteria is that he would have to be ready to be President on day one if anything happen to him?  All of her doings is simply appauling and sad to think she can pull the wool over the American peoples eyes like this.  The truth is Sen Clinton cares about herself and becoming President first and the people as I see it are secondary.  She will say and do whatever for a vote and it is truly insulting.
Same old distortions from the queen. How hysterical that she came out to the "Rocky" theme song. Desperation.
Obama/ Edwards 08
That Clinton's 35 years experience sounds very much like a McCain/Cheney/Rumsfield experience argument.

This may help in understanding where that exprience got us:

Obama is in attacking mode now. His camping is going through words that anybody anyhow related to Hillary campaign had ever said. He turns very negative. Obama is not talking about real issues. Where is his “high Road”, “clean” campaign? Is it “silly season” in Obama camp now?
Still NO nswers from Obama on:

Obama's friend and property deal partner Rezco.

Obama's racist pastor Wright, who praises Farrakhan, leader of Nation of Islam  and traveled to Libia with him.

Obama's 20 years membership in an all black racist church.

Obama's friend terrorist William Ayers.

John Doe (Sent Tuesday, March 11, 2008 2:23 PM)

John Doe, you are ignorant. I guess the Children's Defense Fund discriminates based on age, and the NAACP is racist as well.
WOW!  HRC is sounding desperate.  completely radiating negative energy.  Every time she speaks, her lies make me cring.

.... NEXT!
I think an important factor in becoming Commander-in-Chief is taken responsibility for you do either good or bad and not just the good.  I feel Sen Obama has taken responsibility for both his good and bad and we arestill awaiting for Sen Clinton to own up to hers.
Would somebody just let Hillary know that she lost...shut up and sit down and get out of the way for the Obama movement!!!  Clinton's are OLD Washington news with WAY TOO MUCH BAGGAGE.  Time to clean house in Washington...Obama has the broom in his hand.  The sweep is on!!!!
Obama is an empty suit. He is like an American Idol contestant and should be voted off the stage. Obama cares about Obama. And Obama supporters just want to chant and have an MTV moment, but when the smoke and mirrors are put away at the end of the day...we are going to be in a big pile of cuka. If we can't have honest opinions and discussions about the fact that Obama has no background preparing him to lead the USA without people shouting racist--there is a problem. If Hillary Clinton was a man...this contest would be over and Obama would be back in the southside of Chicago trying to figure out what book to read, who to have lunch with, what votes to pass on so he can run in 8 years. Seriously.
Will bonehead change from making boneheaded decisions?
She's boring me...NEXT! Her attack lines have already been shot down by factcheck.org, so it's clear that she just wants to confuse voters. Hurts to lose, huh Hill?
How much of the white support for Obama, white-guilt? That would be an interesting psychological examination. Look, he does not have the experience, that's the bottom line - he is a nubie. And all this talk of his "hussein" middle, name, his relationship with Rezko, his denial and then admission regarding the Canadian embassy and Nafta, and his double speak regarding troupe withdrawal from Iraq, make him a prime candidate for a wholesale attack by the Republicans.

Go Hill, Go!
Clinton's lying about NAFTA, Clinton's lying about the energy bill, Clinton's lying about Iraq, Clinton's lying about Obama, as usual.  Same parrot politics from Clinton, and just like in her 35 years, all attack and all talk and NO ACTION for the American people!  We need 'Change We Can Believe In', we need Barack Obama!
If Obama can't take the heat of a political attack from Hillary, a fellow Dem., then how can we possibly accept he can take the heat from the even worse attacks from the Republicans in the General Election?

Like I said, if Obamarama is the nominee, he will be RIPPED TO SHREDS BY THE GOP!
Hey John Doe: I'm a good reader, college educated. I got your post the first time, thanks.
Does this latest NY Senator  being unfaithful remind the Clinton voters of all the moral baggage the Clinton campaign brings. Do the women voters think Bill Clinton is a good role model for the first gentleman of the USA??  People are you really thinking?
She is so negative... I really need a break from all of her BS!!!!

I was at the rally today in Harrisburg, PA and the state is energized around her. Obama will win in Philly but you have to remember that except for Philly and Pittsburgh, PA is predominantly a rural state with the second oldest population and a minority population of less than 20%. Hillary will win by 10-15%. She has the support of both the very popular Governor and the Philly mayor who happens to be an African American.
Hillary Clinton has the too much of the same mentality as George Bush, just from the other side of the aisle. Go Barack.
I'm a boomer feminist who's supposed to love Hillary, right? Wrong. A woman who claims she's more qualified because she was married to a powerful man and who uses her powerful husband as an attack dog isn't an inspiration to me or a role model for my daughters. I'm waiting for the woman candidate who stands on her own 2 feet.
Barack Obama refused to become the VP of Hillary Clinton. As a matter of fact, Hillary Clinton carries so much skelton in the closet that he should not select her as the VP.
The only real experience Hillary has is as the First Enabler during Romeo's term as President. That 3:00 AM phone call would likely be the Capitol Police informing her that they have found "Slick Willie" in the back seat of a limo with one or more whitehouse interns. But....on the upside, he could use his government run healthcare to treat his STD.
This is for all the Clinton zealots out there.

If she were to be President what exactly, tell me exactly, not just "words", not just "rhetoric", not just angels singing from their celestial choirs, what will she get done? Is there any possibility that Republicans will work with her? Will all the Democrats fall in line with her at every step? Do you think there just might be some animosity brewing all over CSPAN every night?

If she were elected nothing would get done, absolutely nothing and the Recession would slide into full focus. It would be politics as usual, i.e. a Clinton blaming others for inertia.
I really dont understand why Clinton supporters are allowing themselves to be snowed by her screams of experince.  If memory serves me correctly BILL CLINTON was our president not Hillary.  Hillary all you did was sleep in the white house and that was based on the fact that you were married to the president. Hillary Clinton was not a senator for that much longer than Obama.  What major decisions did you make for the country while sleeping in the white house?  What major cabinet meetings did you attend? What foreign leaders did you meet with in reguards to making decisions that would acctually affect our country?  Having pillow talk in bed and small talk at dinner with your husband doesnt count as experince. Going to another country to accompany your husband on a trip is not experince. I want a strong president who will be able to make great decisions. Senator Clinton says who do you want in the white house to watch over our children at 3am. I dont know about you but I dont wasnt some cry baby.....that thinks having to answer questions first in a debate is unfair and too much pressure.....give me a break the president is the first  to answer the biggest questions facing our nation and if you cant handle a debate what makes you think you can handle that....Hillary says give Obama a pillow....I say give Clinton a pacifier.
Tim in Albany NY: Neither will have the 2025...that is why this continues an in the end the Super-delegates will have a chance to cast their votes...it is then...and only then that this will be settled. Do some homework...there are rules that have been in place for some 20 years now in regards to the role of the Super-delegates...read up friend and then you will find that the process is very democratic. Stop listening to the MSM and the Obama Sheep herd...there are rules and roles to be played out and in the end the outcome will be one that will not make you too happy
The United States have been "ruled" by just two families for 20 years... Make that 28 if Hil gets 2 terms...  Scary!

Hey Roman in Philly....What can I do to help win the state for Obama?  I am checking out phone banks in So. Florida or -- I may even fly up there the weekend before the primary and help out.  As a former resident of Philadelphia, and my heart will always be there, I can also state...Baby...you're not in Ohio anymore.

I am an Independent living in the Harrisburg, PA, area.  I switched my ticket to Democrat a year ago, because I am tired of the Republican agenda.  With that said, I've listened closely to Obama and Clinton.  I have to say, that I think she is making a huge mistake with her messages.  Throwing the kitchen sink, trying to fool voters, spinning her negatives stances onto the other guy, etc...And most uphauling of all, taking sides with McCain several times against Obama, who happens to be leading and may very well be the Democratic nominee.  There's no way I would vote for Clinton after all this.  Who could trust her?  And the Vice President, but not crossing the "commander in chief" threshold.  Wow!!!!!

Obama '08
James from Wichita, are you seriously citing Sinbad as a source of information as to what Hillary Clinton did in Bosnia?  Isn't that precious!  I do believe Sinbad was quoted in the blog you cited as saying that his most pressing concern in Bosnia was when he was going to get to eat next.  I'm sure that Barack is thrilled to have this paragon of political intellect supporting his campaign.

I'll see your Sinbad, and raise you a Richard Holbrooke:

Statement of Richard Holbrooke, architect of the Dayton Accords, and former permanent representative to the United Nations.

“It was dire in May 1999 when Hillary Clinton arrived in Macedonia. The government of Macedonia had slowed the flow of refugees from Kosovo to a trickle. After visiting refugees and gaining a first-hand assessment of the situation, the First Lady had intense talks with President Gligorov and Prime Minister Georgievski. In these talks, one in the Presidential Palace, another in the residence of the American Ambassador, Christopher Hill, Mrs. Clinton pressed the Macedonian government to fully open the border so that Kosovar Albanian refugees could flee the war zone to safety. She also committed herself to work with the government and people of Macedonia who also faced an emergency because of the threat to their own safety and stability. Hillary Clinton promised to take action to help the Macedonian economy. Returning to Washington, she pressed hard in the administration for action to support the Macedonians. She even contacted American business executives to ensure that American textile contracts in Macedonia were not canceled. There is no doubt in my mind, nor in the minds of those people I worked with in the Balkans at the time – that her intense efforts resulted in easing a crisis of significant dimensions and contributed to saving many lives.”

So much for Sinbad.
Still no 2006 TAX RETURNS FOR HILLARY CLINTON
This witch will do and say anything to get elected. I don't want someone that has shown 48 personalities running anything that I'm involved with. The Clintons care about the Clintons first and foremost, even to the point of splitting their own Democratic party. If Mudslinging were an Olymic sport, they'd have the gold, hands down. This is exactly the "old politics" that much of the country is fed up with.
