Obama's win in Mississippi

Posted: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 9:22 AM by Domenico Montanaro

OBAMA’S WIN IN MISSISSIPPI.
With 99% of precincts reporting, Obama defeated Clinton, 61%-37% (253,441 to 154,842).

The Clarion-Ledger: "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama carried a majority of Mississippi in Tuesday's primary, with significant wins in counties in southwestern and central Mississippi and in the Delta."

The Boston Globe: “Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, campaigned vigorously in Mississippi, but Obama's win was widely expected. Tellingly, neither candidate was anywhere near Mississippi yesterday while voters went to the polls. Both were campaigning in Pennsylvania, whose April 22 primary is the next big prize and where recent polls have shown Clinton leading by between 4 to 19 percentage points.”

The AP: “A quarter of whites said race was important to their votes, and they voted overwhelmingly for Clinton. Thirty-seven percent of blacks said race was important to their votes and nearly all voted for Obama.”

Thanks to "one of the white thirty somethings for Obama"...your comments were right on point!  Thanks again for setting the record straight.
Congratulations to Senator Obama.

The most notorious southern state on racial criminal activity is still deeply divided along racial lines.  Is anyone really suprised?  I do congratulate those that put their states horrific racial past behind them and voted for Senator Obama.

Republicans voting for Senator Clinton.  Why?  So the Republicans can continue to have the Democratic's:
   be at each other's throats;
   increase the contention and divide;
   have surrogates spew general election torpedos;
   have candidates spend their war chest;
all the while allowing the Republican candidate to earn and save money and build his organization.

I never thought the Democratic party would become the polarizing party of race and gender.  What a sad day.

Considering African-Americans make up less than 13% of the US population, how do people figure he is ahead?  Being black in America is not "lucky," and Obama is ahead DESPITE his race.  As an over-forty white woman, I too am proud that most Americans in my country are willing to look at the candidate and vote for the most worthy person we have had to lead our country in a very long time. For a black person to get ahead in America, they have to be twice as good as the white person-I see it in schools, in sports, and in politics.
Democrats should see that Hillary would never win the presidency because I, like all of my white women friends, would vote for McCain or Nader rather than see her and Bill in the White House again.  Obama is a unifying force in our country.
I'm no jock, but they DO say in sports, "Awin is a win, no matter how it happens."
I am not an American, but I have been following the U.S Presidential primaries since it began. My advise for the American people is to vote for the right person and the right person is Senator B. Obama.

It is not only America that needs a change, I believe the whole World need a change, because it seems the whole world didn't realised that if American economy is not doing very well, it will affect the whole world, if the American dollar depreciate, it would also have an enourmous effects in the World economy.

Please I would like all Americans to cast their vote for this gentle man Sen. B. Obama He is the man that can answer that 3 am phone call in the white house.

Sen. Clinton, should go back home and retires with her husband. They need more time together, they need to go on holidays and enjoy the rest of their life together. American needs Obama at the moment and Obama also need Americans in order to fullfil his ambition.

Americans please go for Obama.
Obama made his campaign on race from New Hamp. Hillary is not a racist and her record shows it. What about Obama??She helped Latinos and blacks with health care and child education as well as whites. Obama went to a black neighborhood  so he could start building for his political runs.he was helping Resko dupe peopl in the slum Resko rented to. because he needed Resko and sure enough Resko came across for him time and time again. This isnt over by a long way.Obama may be named and summoned from this trial. Maybe this is why Obama says he cannt wait has to get pres. now.It wont save ya bro.Obama wouldnt live in one of Resko places but didnt do anything to help those people.The Iraq Auchi had a son .Wasnt he Obamas ade for a bit??Did Obamas wife recuse herself when papers to devide the property Resko helped with came to her office.She sat on the board that gave permission for property devision.It would be illegal if she did the dividing so it is a legitamate question.But lets cloud all this with whineing race.Keep peoples eyes somewhere else.Obama is a very coniving and calcaluated person.
If Hillary was ahead by 100 delegates she and her campaign managers would be screaming for Obama to pull out of the race. She would say he is hurting the Democratic party by continuing.  Hillary is going to stay in this race even if it gives the general election to the Republicans.  They must be loveing her, in a year when it seemed they could not win, Hillary is going all she can to hand the race to McCain.
If Hillary can't win she will take the Democratic Party down with her.
'Pat from Huntington' thinks Obama is woefully flawed and unable to win southern states? That's playing heavily into FLAWED ASSUMPTIONS that constitute the remnants of racism in this country and that is what Clinton is attempting to manipulate which Is really and truly quite despicable. Clinton is counting on both less educated and overly entitled ruling class whites to fall for the holier thatn though side of the race card. The only good to come out of this 'ugly head' rising in our countires politics is for it to be cut off!

'Thirty Something' is quite correct in the realization that the Clintons are being devious, attempting to ignite an explosive emotional reaction that will keep hr in the race by leveraging key states with demographics her team feels can be manipulated. At the saem time Clinton is downplaying the role of voting blocks like Missippi in the election..which winds up reinforcing the racial disenfracnhisement historically experienced by African Americans. They are both devious and clumsy in the all out attempt to gain power. I think that truth bears itself out by attracting  more of the same and deception begetts more deception, so much so, that lots of people are looking at Clinton increasingly confused by the conflicting approaches and chatter. It's all really a sing of how desperate they are. It's great that a woman can run for president but anyone not seeing how bad she could potentially be based on the behaviour during this election doesn't need Clintons nonsense to confuse them, they are confused without the extra BS.
Game Over!!!
 While many of these politicians are simply playing political "games", Senator Obama is looking to unite the country, and return the nation to respectable world leadership.  Senator Clinton would rather destroy her own party to win a primary "game".  It is clear the popular vote is going to Senator Obama, the delegate count is going to Senator Obama, and the nomination should go to Senator Obama.  Geraldine Ferraro, and I'm old enough to remember she got where she WAS because she's a woman, sees this as nothing but "gaming".  Her comments of "they'll need me, so there better not make me mad" shows she cares nothing about the government, nation, or her party.  She merely playing a "game".
What disturbs me so much when reading these comments is the obvious polarization occurring between democrats with their own parties.  People have resorted to name calling, like children on the school yard, rather than addressing the issues.  And this is between members of the same party!  If this isn't proof of how damaging this democratic race is becoming, I don't know what is.  I feel that Hillary Clinton is at the root of the devisiveness.  She has been, and apparantly will continue to attack her own party mate as though he is the enemy.  I have always defended the Clintons.  I never thought I would be someone who would now be distrustful and angry at them for dividing this party.  She has lost my support.  If she should win the nomination by underhanded tactics, I don't know what I'll do.  Up till lately, I could have gone either way, Obama or Clinton, but her actions of late have totally disillustioned me.  It's as though she has become unhinged in her self-righteous quest to gain the nomination at any cost.  I'm horrified at what I am seeing.  And frankly scared of where it may lead.
this is for Gregory Peek,
Obama doesn't ask because he has Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, his Black church and Farrakahn doing it for him. Wake up. 91% of Blacks voted for Obama. He will not win the General Election. We have a racial divide. All you white women that say you won't vote for Hilary, I guess you want Jesse Jackson, and Al sharpton running the country.
Sitting in our Colorado school gym, full of white folks of all ages, overwhelmingly voting for Obama tells me that not all states are caught up in race.
I just saw your guy's analysis of the exit numbers from Mississippi. Are you kidding me?
Why not talk about the polling of how many of those who voted for Hillary said they would be dissatisfied if she were President. drum-roll...

15% of Mississippi voters who voted for Hillary Clinton said they would be DIS-SATISFIED if she were president. Is this not sounding alarms for any of you?? curious and curiouser...

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/#MSDEM
In Mississippi last night Obama won only 21% of the white vote while winning 91% of the black vote. Telling.

Obama is unelectable.

If you can't win in states like Ohio, you can't win the Presidency. In Ohio, Obama outspent Hillary 3 to 1 yet won only 5 out of 88 counties in Ohio. Ouch.

Hillary has proven she can win big in the big states that are the must wins for the Dems in November. It's that simple.

Hillary is the strongest, most electable candidate in the race.

It's time for Obama to exit the race. He's dividing the party and damaging our chances for victory in November.

Follow the money trail. Who is funding Obama and why? Why is Obama deriding a fellow Dem Past President Bill Clinton? It's unwarranted and disgusting.

Obama is the one who has interjected race and sexism continually into this campaign. Shame on Obama.

Geraldine Ferraro speaks the truth. Some people just can't handle it. She's not a racist, she's just giving people the facts. She has absolutely nothing to apologize for.
