McCain on Romney, choosing a VP

On his campaign charter plane, McCain spoke to reporters about Romney’s comments in a television interview that aired last night where he said he would be “honored” to serve as McCain’s running mate.

When a reporter said that it sounded like Romney would be open to sharing the ticket with him, a smiling McCain said he understood that Romney had mentioned his interest in serving as running mate.

“I got that impression,” he said.

He went on to say that his campaign is “just starting the process.”

“We’ve had at least a hundred volunteers to lead the search effort for the VP candidate,” McCain said, smiling again, of supporters volunteering their advice. “Incredible acts of generosity and willingness to serve the country.”

In describing the campaign’s steps so far towards defining their VP selection process McCain predicted that they should have a process nailed down with the next “few days or a week.”

Believe it or not, I think he should avoid going with a conservative VP choice. Who cares if the far right is irritated - if they don't get out and vote for McCain they'll end up with Oblinton. I think McCain needs to stay on the moderate path, reaching across the aisle, cuz red versus blue hasn't been going too well over the last eight years.

A lot of democrats put McCain in Bush's boat, but the truth is he is nothing like the man. Hillary and Obama agree on a point or two, and you don't see people casting THEM as having the same character.

Pick a winner, John, not a conservative.
This is why we need an intervention. A super intervention.

Why are we (Democrats) shouting "taste great", "less filling" across the ilse? While McCain is flying across the country snapping on reporters and considering his running mate, our party is in a nightmare scenario.

If it's going to come down to superdelegates anyway why wait? JAYCEE IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!

I don't even care anymore who you like Clinton or Obama. If you call yourself a Democrat do you think we're benifitted by this dragging out further? Does anyone have an idea how to pressure these SUPER DELEGATES into saving the party instead of watching it go down?
Romney and McCain...??  This is getting more interesting by the minute.  I need a TV in my car to keep up with it all...
Hope McCain picks Gov Crist from Florida because the man is fruity as a nine dollar bill. Of course the clueless repubs haven't figured this out yet. He always seems to hook up with female friends, and then calls him his girlfriends with show off articles in our local newspaper. This happened right in the beginning of his run for Govenor and now recently as he could possibly be McCains running mate. We dems say who cares but the repubs find out and the top of their heads blow off due to Christian hypocracy and also all the hidden gays in the repub party.
McCain/Romney? That'd be great with me. It would improve the Dems chances regardless of who was on their ticket.

BTW, Barack Obama would still be leading Hillary if hs was a white woman. Of course, if he were a white man, he'd be the second coming of JFK.
Just when I thought Romney couldn't get any more pathetic.
Hmm!  Does not sound like Romney is his choice!

Perhaps Romney should go buy himself a country and become President -- Is Iraq up for sale?
Strong in military and strong in economy ticket? Why not!
That sounds kind of like a no.  Don'tfeel too bad though, Hillary is going to win.  McCain is good in one area, and it is not the economy or healthcare or social issues.

Hillary 08
He should choose Jeb Bush.
You and Romney could have FIVE wars going in the ideological FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL that MUST be won without him sending any of his.

Bush knows he's the booby-prize of presidents and is all set to join the people in Paraguay who made his granddaddy rich - he'll start one of them for you. Then he'll rely on that  Can't-change-presidents-in-the-middle-of-a-war BS to justify you recieving the Field Marshal's baton and the right wing won't see one bit of idiocy in it. They won't care that Mitt's brats don't fight because your supporters are worse than quitters - if you believe this war profiteering is over our very survival and you DON'T go - you're WORSE than a quitter. A quitter at least got into the game.
McCain's so old, I'm surprised he remembered who Romney is!
IF MR MCCAIN CHOOSES MITT ROMNEY I THINK HE WOULD
BE DOING A GOOD THING

MITT ROMNEY IS SMART, KNOWS HOW TO DEAL AND COULD
BE AN ASSETT TO MR MCCAIN'S TICKET

I INTEND ON VOTING FOR MCCAIN REGARDLESS UNLESS HE
CHOOSES THE "DEVIL"
McCain should choose a running mate a little older than him. This will help him draw the older crowd.
Crist is GAY. I guess the McCain campaign doesn't know that yet. DOH!!!
GIVEN ROMNEYS KNOWLEDGE OF THE ECONOMY AND THE MARKETS ALONG WITH MCCAINS FOREIGN POLICY AND THE FACT THAT ROMNEY WOULD MAKE AN EXCELLANT PRESIDENT SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN TO MCCAIN I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT TICKET
I THINK MITT ROMNEY WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR VP.  PLUS IT WOULD BRING MORE SUPPORTER TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND UNITE THEM.  RAH! RAH!RAH!
If I were going to be president, I would go outside politics as much as possible to choose my VP and cabinet. I wouldn't choose someone that just wants to climb the political ladder, or feels they deserve a favor, I would choose experts in each of the Secretary positions and for VP, would try to find  those that back me up on 95% of my standards. Expertice in certain fields of "building" a strong nation would be a strong priority. I would want to demand Honesty, Integrity, Experience and Loyalty to all those dealing with running this country for 4 years. I would look for successful business leaders who have been good decision makers, the Military leader that have lead well, makers of world policies.  It would take me time to fill those spots, but we have plenty of the best talent in the world  to choose from.  Gender, Race, Religion and Political party would not be deciding issues, Quality would.  I would choose deeds and honor over lofty speechs.
I hope John McCain picks a vice president who will enable him to further his reach into the northern states. In order to accomplish that he will require a running mate who is even stronger than he is in the South. There is a candidate who fits that bill, who has a loyal and motivated base of supporters, and who has name recognition and charisma. Mike Huckabee brings a lot to the table, including FairTax supporters, home schoolers (and teachers, go figure), pro-lifers, 2nd amendment defenders, and people who want a Republican party that lifts all citizens (so-called "vertical politics"), and much more.
Just what we need McWar and McMormon!
You had better shake up the process old man times a' wasting!
If McCain is going to try to get the conservative vote, Romney might not be a bad choice.  That would be a good choice if McCain was looking for someone with somewhat similar views on the conflict in Iraq.
No comments yet.
Waterboard Mccain...he lectured mitt romney on the issue right before he voted to let bush torture whom he wants how he wants...the flippers deserve each other
Does the Vp have to be Natural Born as well as the President?  Arnold anyone?
McCain-Romney ticket is a Winner!  It's the team that is best fit to take care of the most importatnt issues that Americans are concerned right now. McCain for foreign policy and national security and Romney for the economy.
Romney would be perfect - he's good at economy while McCain doesn't know much about it - a very good match!

Flippers for sure. These guys ain't just swimin with the dolphins, they ARE the dolphins.
How anybody can imagine that Mitt Romney is good on the economy is unreal. For months he kept saying that the economy was great, while Mike Huckabee was warning everyone about the current downturn. Romney was wrong. Huckabee was right.
Tasso - Article II of the Constitution sets the qualifications for a person seeking the Presidency and the Constitution further specifies that no one may be the Vice President who is not eligible to be the President (i.e. 35, natural born, here for 14 years - makes sense, since the greatest responsibility of the position is to maintain a pulse in case the President, for some reason, doesn't).  So, no Arnold.

But Romney may be a useful choice for Sen. McCain since it would provide him some cover on two serious perceived weaknesses: the economy and self-identifying conservatives.  Romney has a deep understanding of the workings of the economy and is a comparatively preferred figure in the south and with conservatives.
I am in favor of McCain / Romney.  One of the few combinations that could get me to vote for McCain
Johnnie Mac should select Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Mr Clarence Thomas.  Thomas is a strong conservative, a proud American and he would enforce the laws of this country!

So many lobbyists and just one V.P.
McCAIN AT TOP OF TICKET, AND ROMNEY'S 5 NON-MILITARY WHITE BOYZ. . should please EVANGELICALS and MILITARY/INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.

-vs BLACK/FEMALE EMTPY SUITS-

MY CHURCH ONLY demands 5%. . and SIN 'OK'.
Tasso, of course the VP has to be "natural born".  If something happened to the president, the VP would take over.  that's the law. Arnold will never be in the Whitehouse as anything more than a visitor unless laws change.
It's a perfect match - McCain wants to keep the current wars going for 100 years and start some new ones while Romney can fund them. If he doesn't want to pick Romney, he could always ask Cheney to head his VP selection committee!
Why are all the "pundits" suggesting McCain pick a woman for VP, not based on qualification or abilities, only because it would represent "change"?

Sen. McCain should select someone who has the highest ethical standards/honesty, a conservative, someone with a common touch and has accomplishments in reforming government.  The ideal choice is Sarah Palin.
Romney as VP would be a dream come true for Democrats. He is an easier target than McCain. LEt's not forget how porrly Romney did in the South. I'm sure the Mormon won;t be a problem either. Yeah McCain/Romney. See how well they do.
Let's see, the women who voted for Hillary will be mad if Obama wins the nomination.  The African Americans will be mad if Hillary wins.

Great way to attract them both - Put an African American woman on the ticket.  Unfortunately Condi probably has too much baggage.
it will be easier than it would have been to win the election.Obama and Hillary are no longer the dream team--more like the nightmare team.Voters will find it easier to vote for them instead of a racist or a feminist.
Mike Huckabee is the best choice for VP. He has proven he has integrity. The media never gives Mike Huckabee the recognition for his deep concern and love of the United States of America. We need a VP who stands for the morals the USA was founded on.
I think Sen. Mcain is quite capable of picking his running mate. Mcain is the best qualified to handle the  Presendency. He also knows who wants for VP. I trust his judgrment.
Hey First Read theres a poll on Vote.com, McCain and C. Rice why not take this out for a spin?!!! I dare ya!
If McCain intends to beat either Clinton or Obama, Romney would be the perfect choice, the only choice. They would compliment each other.  Holding a grudge and not tapping the right person will lose the race for McCain....and he will then deserve it.
