No plans for Wright to step down

Posted: Friday, March 14, 2008 3:28 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Mark Hudspeth
The Obama campaign says they have no plans to ask the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to step down from a campaign spiritual advisory committee. They're stressing that this committee -- the African American Religious Leadership Committee -- was a laundry list of people associated with the campaign and didn't really do anything. The group never actually met.

They say Wright has no formal role on the campaign (unlike some others on this committe who do have a formal role in faith-based outreach). They say he was included mostly out of respect to his long relationship with Obama.

Aides say he was not present during the Christmas 2007 sermon or the post-Sept. 11 sermon. They weren't sure about some of the others in question, are not sure when the last time the two spoke, and they stressed they don't speak frequently.

And the fact that the Obama campaign has to spend who knows how much time on this must be manna to the HRC camp. Something to consider, Barack: anyone susceptible to this kind of propaganda probably wasn't going to vote for you anyway.
Get off it NBC.  This is just another attempt at a non-story that the Hillary Clinton-Lieberman Camp wants you guys to drag through the mud, AGAIN!
Yeah, but Rev. Wright did his damage for the past 20 years.

D*** America.  I guess Obama this is you and your wife's version of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

You should not have run.  You should not have run.
Barak Obama supporters have been attacking Geraldine Ferraro for days.  That Obama's campaign did not see that their attacks on Ms Ferraro would focus attention on questions about their own attachment to Rev Wright seems "Stupid".
One question: did Obama receive the UCC's newsletter...including the "War on Iraq IQ Test" that the Rev. Wright wrote in early 2003?  Makes for some interesting reading.  Esp. the questions toward the end, dealing with Israel.
What's that?  Hillary only won 55% of the vote in Michigan against. . . uncommitted!  That's pathetic! She barely beat. . .uncommitted?  OMG!  That's just pathetic!Well, no wonder she says it was a fair election.  However, if that's a fair election, I tremble at her idea of a fair hearing!

No one is ignortant enough to think it's fair to count the votes when Obama's name was not on the ballot.  Futhermore, Hillary has only flip-flopped on this issue because she is sooo despartate (as per MSNBC news last night.)
Wow...So God Damm America.  On an American presidential campaign, as a spritual advisor and on a spritual committe.  Wow.  And this is supposed to defeat McCain?
OBAMA is not responsible for the actions of Rev. Wright. So all of a sudden OBAMA is a Christian.  Let the anti OBAMA lick their wounds.
OBAMA must do better than that.  We can't pick our family members, but we can pick our Pastors and friends.  This is a question of Barack Obama's judgment that he would remain in Pastor Wright's church for 20 years where most people hope to receive spiritual guidance and keep their moral compass on the right path.   OBAMA MUST FACE THE CAMERAS ON EVERY TV CHANNEL AND ANSWER QUESTIONS AS TO HOW MUCH HE BELIEVES AND IS INFLUENCED BY WHAT HE HAS FOLLOWED IN HIS CHURCH FOR TWENTY YEARS. SO MUST MICHELLE OBAMA BE QUESTIONED AS SHE HAS BEEN A MEMBER FOR TWENTY YEARS.  THIS PASTOR HAS BEEN PREACHING ANTI-AMERICA, ANTI-WHITE AMERICANS, ANTI-GOVERNMENT, HATE-FILLED SPEECHES, ANTI-CLINTON (POLITICAL SPEECHES) FOR YEARS.   OBAMA'S COMMENTS, AFTER COVERING THIS UP WHILE GATHERING UP DELEGATES IN CAUCUSES, IS TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.  WE ARE JUDGED BY THE COMPANY WE KEEP, ESPECIALLY OVER TWENTY YEARS.
THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ANY AMERICAN TO SWALLOW.  IT IS INSULTING AND DEGRADING TO WATCH THESE VIDEOS AND IF OBAMA CLAIMS THAT HE WAS NOT IN CHURCH WHEN THESE SPEECHES WERE MADE, THAT'S EVEN MORE BONEHEADED.
HE CIRITZED BUSH FOR NOT KNOWING THAT GAS WAS ALMOST $4.00 A GAL.   GET REAL PEOPLE, THE DENIALS, LACK OF TRANSPARENCY, AND GOING ON THE ATTACK AGAINST CLINTON WHEN HE SHOULD BE GIVING ANSWERS AND DETAILS ABOUT HIS OWN BEHAVIOR AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND EXAMPLES OF GOOD JUDGMENT ARE WHAT'S EXPECTED IF YOU WANT TO BE A CANDIDATE FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNTIED STATES.

HILLARY CLINTON TOOK QUESTIONS FROM THE BLACK NEWSPAPER EDITORS ABOUT FERRARO'S COMMENTS AND OTHER QUESTIONS.  SHE FACED THE CAMERAS AND ANSWERED ALL OF THEIR QUESTIONS HONESTLY.  YET, THIS IS NOT EVEN EXPECTED OF OBAMA.  HE WALKS OUT ON REPORTERS IF THE QUESTIONS GET TOUGH.   I AM SEEING A FAKE APEARING BEFOR OUR EYES AMERICAN.  WAKE UP.

(submitted at 100 pm pacific time when you say there are no comments yet to your newest article...I will check to see if you post this.)
Why should he step down? He sounds just like any other red, white, brown, yellow, green purple etc leftist. If that's what people believe then let's see how it shakes out in the general election.
Jeremiah Wright hates white people.
Preaching anger and hate is not christian.
•Are you suffering from dizzy spells due to constant media spin?
•Do your ears ring with a shrill high pitched, phony laugh?
•Do you suffer mood swings? Happy one day, angry the next,  sudden fits of crying mixed with hysteric laughter?
•Do your ears bleed every time you turn on the news or the radio?
•Are you confused? Hopeless? Desperate?
•Are you in a constant state of denial?

If you said yes to these questions, you may be suffering from Hillary Rodham Clinton Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or HRCCFS.

You’re not alone, but it’s important you get help. The only known cure is intense common sense therapy best found only at BarackObama.com. Only you can help stop HRCCFS.
Wright is a racist and should step DOWN!! This is a disgrace to all races that a bigot such as he is on BO campaign staff!
Michelle is not proud of America, Wright seems to hate America and you think they should be in the WH, absurd!
Politics as usual!!!  Do as I say, not as I do.  Some time ago BO said he would not have divisive figures on his campaign...Just Words like his opposition to NAFTA in OHIO and his promise to pull out of Iraq.  What an association and surrogate to have...God Damm America u Obamanicas (that includes 1st read)!!!
Obama is JUDGED by the company he keeps, His LONG relationship indeed!
If Obama is responsible for the actions of his pastor, then all Catholics in this country should be held accountable for the actions of their pedeophile priests.  Enough said!
To Media-It is fact that Obama's Pastor made these statement below:

How come there is no articles nor videos about all the past comments of Pastor Wright made?

It is fact Obama's Pastor that he made these comments.

CNN had an article about all the past comments of Ferraro.

Obama pastor in his own words-Words Matter– This is fact that he said this!!!!!!!

He said that the White man brought Aids to the Black community.

He said the White man brought drugs to eliminate the Blacks.

He said Whites are to be Hated.

He said American cause 9/11.

Obama praises Pastor Wright in his book and Obama donated $20,000 to his church

Despite all this, he still is a member of this church–BAD JUDGEMENT!!!

The “Man Of Hope and Uniter” is associated with church that is a Divider–-this is unbelieveable.

This is the man Obama sought Spirital Guidance for 20 years!!!

This is not Irony. This is Hyprocisy?

The “Old Uncle” excuse and a lukewarm denouncing statement won’t do.

Also, is David Axelrod going to call Pastor Wright comments insidious?

I’m still waiting on Keith Olbermann, “Special Comment” on all of Pastor Wright’s racist comments

It is amazing how the media have move on from this story, unlike what they happen to Ferraro-Media Bias.
What do you expect? He is never responsible for anything his surrogats say and do let alone himself. He is unable to control his wifes angry rhetoric so why is this any different. He is the same guy that says words matter---unless I do not want them to.Who is he?MLK or Jerimiah Wright?

Hey Chuck:

I noticed you guys reported the latest poll in PA and the percentage spread. How about also reporting here as a thread the latest poll in North Carolina and the percentage spread. Indiana as well if you care too. I believe there have been recent polls in both North Carolina and Indiana.
hahaha...err.....rrrrrrrright!
I hope that Senators Kennedy, Kerry and Speaker Pelosi do their best to convince Senator Obama to change his mind or his political future is toast.

Please, Mr Obama, tell the truth. Yes, there are inflammatory videos of Wright out there. But, don't try to make people believe those are the only ones. As far as when you last spoke with Wright, weren't you there in that church on MLK day?

I'm sorry removing him from that committee isn't enough. People say it doesn't matter what Wright has said in the past and that you don't embrace it all. Now, you're saying you didn't know about these things. The fact remains that where you attend church is a CHOICE. You CHOSE to attend this heinous church. You took your children and had them baptized in a hate-filled, anti-American, racist, anti-Semitic church. Your exposed your children to a so-called pastor who simulates sex acts and swears from the pulpit. And, again, don't tell me nothing like that ever happened before. A leopard doesn't change it spots over night. Where was your so-called superior JUDGMENT when you associated yourself with this venom? At least, I better understand now where your wife's anti-American statements come from. You don't listen to that for 20 years by CHOICE and not have it impact you.

And, how hypocritical of you and your campaign. Axelrod, et al, called Ferraro a racist and your campaign demanded her dismissal because she was involved with the campaign. She was a volunteer, not a staffer. And now, you try to minimize your associations with this vile man by saying he was "only" appointed to a committee and "only" appointed out of respect for your long-term relationship.  The fact you had a long-term relationship with such an ignoramus ought to make people sit up and think FAST before they make you our President.

Faith and religion are a core part of the being and essence of those who proclaim to be Christian. Your CHOICE to follow this man and be part of this church for 20 YEARS tells me about your being and essence. You give a great speech; too bad it's all a lie. I wouldn't vote for you if hell froze over because as an American I cannot risk that you won't carry this garbage into the White House.
Who cares about pastors, priests or whatever. 80% of them are crooked and dirty especially the conservative ones. What your priest say and do does not reflect what you believe in.
And whats up with all that religious thing that is so powerful in the US were in 2008 people not in the dark ages!
To those of you who insist on talking about Jeremiah Wright:

First, if you are catholic; therefore you are child molesters.
Second, if you are white, you are KKK members.
Third, if you are black you are inferior.

See how dumb this sounds?  I am sure that all of you have friends or family members who have strong views on topics that you disagree with, but yet you continue to like or love that person.  You accept the fact that you disagree and move on.  Next, Mr. Wright did not say that he was glad that 9/11 happened, but that it happened as a result of what America has been doing to other countries (bombing and sanctions).  There is a difference.  How long do you let someone beat up on you before you respond?  We all wish that it hadn't happened, but for every action there is a reaction.  In regards to his comments about rich white americans running this country are true.  My question to you is, Who's been running this country?  We complain about the rich getter richer (Bush's taxcuts), but we take offense when the ones who are making these decisions are called on it.  Why do we complain and worry about our standings with other countries?  Our standings with other countries are bad because of what our country has been doing.  How do you not see that?  When he spoke about Hillary, he was not degrading her because she is white.  He was merely saying or asking how can she understanding our suffering, if she has never been there.  She grew up in a rich-two parent-republican home.  She's never had to experience what most other Americans have.  In other words, Obama can relate to common folks better than Hillary based on his experiences.  Many white americans have mistaken Mr. Wright's statements as racist, but indeed they are not.  He is not teaching hatred of whites, but merely pointing out things that have actually happened to uplift the black members of his congregation.  In other words, he is telling them that they are not in the situation that they are in in this country because they are inferior, but because of slavery, lynchings, jim crow, racism, and a country run by rich people who want to stay riche and happen to be white.  Should he have made that point the way he did, no, of course not.  He should have said that in a much less controversial manner.  I am sure that Obama does not hate his white mother or grandparents.  He is who he is because of them.  Mr. Wright and Sen. Obama are two different people.
Who cares about Wright or any other spiritual leader?  What is with this church stuff?  Anyone who has been a member or has belonged to a church knows, people don't believe in and agree with everything their pastor says.  Well I don't.  Especially, if I can't find it in the good book.

The problem I have is when people interpret the bible and put their own twist on it.  I say don't add and don't anything away.  Everyone has an opinion and that opinion is not always right.

Some days you leave church thinking...I can't believe the pastor said that.  For that matter, some people are cursing before they get into their cars in the parking lot at the church.

This church stuff is unnecessary drama that the news is blowing up for nothing.  Pastors and ministers are people too and just because they believe in something, doesn't mean all the members do.

Some church's believe it's a sin to play the lotto, but will be the first to ask for their 10% if you win.  They would want what belongs to God or so they say!

Give me a break!  The pastor is not God himself and who really cares what they say...this goes for Hagee, Parsley, Paula White, Eddie Long, T.D. Jakes, whomever...it does not matter.  They are trying to make it into heaven (if you believe), just as we are!

THIS IS NO STORY...THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY GIVES PASTORS, MINISTERS, AND BISHOPS THAT MUCH POWER.  LET'S BE FOR REAL, THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT.

Seems to me McCain and Obama are having problems with churchy people in their lives or associated with them, so are we now going to say Clinton must not believe in a higher power, because she is not affiliated with a church, etc?  We can't say that, so move one, there is no story here.

In the words of Ronald Reagan, "they endorsed me, I didn't endorse them".  You can't stop prayer and Wright has no formal role and everything this political season is just blown up for nothing.

This Wright subject, the Geraldine subject, the McCain dirty laundry...who cares, how is this putting money in our pockets and keeping food on the table?
Well, we are all watching with baited breath to see how MSNBC handles this one.

Will Keith Olbermann have a “Special Comment’ on this?

Will this get the attention that Geraldine Ferraro’s comments received.

Will Obama be held accountable as Hillary was?

Get real – Obama has attended this church for 20 years, has described Pastor Wright as his “mentor”, prayed with him the night before he announced his candidacy for President, selected him to conduct his wedding ceremony and to baptize his daughters.

This will be Red Meat for the republicans in the general election – can’t you just see the commercials – a split screen of Obama and Pastor Wright (or maybe they will use one of the many pictures of them together) and (sung to the tune of Joy to the World by Three Dog Night):

Jeremiah was my pastor…

Is a good friend of mine…

I never denounced a single word he said

And I helped him drink his wine

Yes he always had some mighty fine wine

Hate to this country – all our boys and girls

Hate to the Whitey’s in their shiny suits – hate to all the jews

Hate to the World..

it's funny how people are so easily offended by something that's the truth...whut LIE obama's pastor was speaking? it was karma that brought 9/11 towards us. had we took a serious note on the previous attempts of the world trade center back in '93 and the oylimpics in '96 this wouldn't of been an issue. had we took serious of the connections that the government had ALREADY had and realized whut was bound to happen prior to 9/11, this wouldn't of been an issue. had we took more serious attention to the bombings and attack to the US embassys in africa instead of being so PREOCCUPPIED on the president's impeachment we wouldn't of been in this situation. had we haven't been misguided by our CURRENT president, we wouldn't be in the situation that we're in right now...i could go on forever, but the fact is that this government HAVE brought all of this on us in one fashion or another....

i'm still disgusted on how every level of government handled KATRINA....obama's pastor have every right to express his disgust on this, and it's a free country so he can do that....people need to UNDERSTAND 1st that these are NOT the views of obama and obama is his OWN damn man and make his OWN INPEDENDENT decisions....

the MEDIA, if they want to be fair and balanced, needs to speak on MCCAIN's backing and defense of REV. HAGEE as well since they want to go this route.

So, is this what Obama calls the "silly season in politics"...?  This folks is what is called the fair and balanced reporting that has been missing for all these months that Obama got his movement going and racked up delegates in the caucuses across the smaller states.  I won so many states----less than 5,000 in Wyo. ---hardly the will of the people representing Wyo.  WAKE UP VOTERS, WE ARE NOW GETTING THE NEGATIVES ABOUT OBAMA THAT WERE BEING COVERED UP BY THE MEDIA FOR THE PAST MONTHS.  ARE
WE OUTRAGED YET?   ANY THING OBAMA HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS IS   TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE....20 YEARS IS A VERY LONG TIME TO FIND YOUSELF AND CLAIM THAT YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN WHAT YOUR PASTOR IS PREACHING.  ANYONE WITH GOOD JUDGMENT AND CHARACTER WOULD HAVE WALKED OUT WITH THEIR FAMILY AND FOUND A CHURCH AND PASTOR WHO MORE REPRESENTED THEIR VALUE SYSTEM AND HOW THEY WISHED TO VIEW SOCIETY AND THEIR COUNTRY.

I AM SHOCKED AND INSULTED BY THESE VIDEOS AND THAT OBAMA WOULD HAVE THE AUDACITY TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT WITHOUT DISCLOSING THIS INFORMATION TO THE AMERICAN VOTER.   WE DESERVE BETTER.
Hey Chuck:

If we are to judge people by the company they keep can you tell us when was the last time that Bill Clinton camapigned for Hillary and when it was that Hillary and Bill last spoke. Was it not Bill that  lied too and cheated on his wife and lied to the Amercian public? Should we be judging Hillary by the company that she keeps. Especially company that has a very very big role in her campaign and will have a big role if she is elected President. Hey, fair is fair. And if so should she not also then be denouncing and rejecting Bill. He not only lied to the Amercian public but also started this whole race card issue in South Carolina.
Sen. Obama being ministered for 20 years (children were bapitzed by him, married by him, and his book title is a quote by the revered) by Rev. Wright shows a real lack of judgement.  And because Sen. Obama's record is too short for me to scrutinize otherwise, I do not think I can support him in a general election.
I'm sorry but this shouldn't be an issue. This is his pastor this isn't him. If people think this is the way he thinks just because he attends that church then every person who attends Catholic services are pro-life and anti-gay. Where does Sen. Clinton's pastor stand on issues? Whatever her pastor believes Hillary does too then? Gimme a break. People are really starting to reach to find something.
I am sure that all of you finger pointers have people who have made statements that have probably embarrassed you.  What did you do?  Did you stop associating with them, or did you let it be known that you disagree, or did you say nothing?  Obama is in no way shape or form a racist!
This is a big problem for Obama. I've been reading a ton of comments on this issue and Dems are outraged. He needs to sever ties, but he won't. The history between them is too deep. Olberman needs to do a "special comment" on this issue. Maybe he'll get some of his viewers back.
am i the only one who thinks that Obamas pastor problem is that he has a pastor.. when are we going to effectively seperate church and state in this god damn country :P
I know people who talk like that, black and white.  They are not against America.  They are just stating their opinions about some of the things that the leaders of our country have done.
hypocrisy at its best
Are you kidding?  Obama chose this church; he has been a member for 20 years.  The pastor married him, baptized his children.  You can not tell me this Pastor developed his views of the world overnight and it just so happened Obama never sat in the pews and heard these sermons.

What kind of judgment are you displaying if you maintain a relationship with a church and pastor with such radical views?

If we forget Obama for a moment and think about his young daughters, it's okay for Obama's children to be exposed to this kind of hate?

Do the Obama's believe at some level that any of what this man says is true?  Is that why Michelle Obama states in her speeches that "America is mean" and "I am proud of America for the first time in my life"? Have these views formed because of this Pastor?
You can't step down from being an idiot. That position is permanent.
What does Michelle Obama have to say about her Pastor Wright?  She lives in Chicago and we have been told that she attends this church.  Obama has an apartment in Washington DC, and perhaps has missed some Sunday surmons, however he did state that he sought the advice of Pastor Wright as to whether or not he should run for President.  AND FACE IT TWENTY YEARS OF INFLUENCE BY THIS PASTOR IS NOT LIKE HAVING A CRAZY UNCLE IN YOUR FAMILY.  WE ARE JUDGED BY THE COMPANY WE KEEP.

Does the Pastor's sermons and influence for twenty years have in any way shaped  Michelle Obama's statement about "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country." ?????
With the media all over Obama’s former pastor, will McCain’s current “spiritual advisor” get the same scrutiny in the main stream media?  See the below link:

http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/davidcorn/2008/03/will-mccain-denounce-supporter.html

Probably a safe bet that a "long relationship" would do more harm than a spot in the campaign.
NBC National Barrack Network, Hey GE how much did you donate to Barrack the RACIST!!!, I would never vote for HUSSIEN the great.
Shame on you MSNBC.  You cannot sweep this one under the rug.  The best story you can come up with is that obama wasn't at the sermon.  Give me a break.  20 years is what I been hearing ever since the muslim stuff.  He was married by this pastor, his children baptised by this pastor.  Now we all know why Michelle Obama has never been proud of her country.  If you listen to that hatred every Sunday for 20 years I would hate white people and my country too.  This is not going away.  He should have not given up the VP job so soon.
I listened to the sermon sections that Mr. Joe aired this morning (of course he only aired the parts he thought were offensive, so we don't know if they are out of context) but I didn't find them offensive. I'm female and white and Christian.

Our arrogant foreign policy decisions over the last 100 years are partially to blame for 9/11. Not directly of course, and no one deserved to die at the hands of terrorists. Remember that 15 of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi citizens, our supposed partners in the war on terror. However, it is naive to think that our arrogance hasn't created the very terrorists that we fear. We did kill 100,000 or more in the bombing of Japan, and where were the protests? We have supported state sponsored terrorism, remember we used to support Saddam, we used to support Iran, we used to support Osama bin Laden for God's sake. We support Israel even when they kill innocent women and children; we support African dictators and Arab states that don't have human rights for women. As long as they sell us their oil, their diamonds, their coal, their cheap goods, we support them. So he was right, albeit a little dramatic in his delivery. I dare MSNBC to bring on some foreign policy experts and see what they say. And I don't mean government hacks, I mean actual scholars.

Watch "Lawrence of Arabia" and you can see the beginnings of what westerners wrought in the middle east. Americans need to get off their high horses and see that we have the chance now to have America respected again. We have the chance to make sure that every child has a safe place to live,  clean food and water, a chance to read and write, a chance for a good job and to raise a family. We don't have to open our borders for this: we can spread peace, hope and prosperity to the rest of the world with people, with our money, with our trade. Instead of trading in death (guns, bombs, tanks) we could be trading food, medicine and support to train teachers. Do you think for a minute that a young Palestinian, when given a choice, would choose death at his/her own hands rather than learning, working to make a good life for his/her family and growing into a successful, productive person? He or she has no options in the Palestinian territory now. We offer them nothing but poverty, sorry and loss.

On the stuff about Hillary, look we can't begin to understand what it's like growing up as a person of color in this country. I know that Wright has made some white people frightened, but he has done more good than bad. He has brought young men and women off of the streets and into a house of God. Why would we be against that? And I would never presume to tell Obama who can be his spiritual leader. He obviously doesn't share the guy's opinions, so why is this a point and why now? So Hillary and Bill can continue to keep the race card alive and paint Obama as the black candidate, not a candidate that is black. (and Christ, he's half white and was raised by his white mom and grandparents!!)

And the note about Hillary sharing her home with Bill, who lied to us all, even his supporters, is right on the money.

I am a lifelong Democrat. I will support the party, but I believe that Obama is what we need to heal this country and our representation in the world. You think he's luckier to be a black man than a woman in politics? How many black senators are there? How many governors? How many representatives?

It's our time, our country, our chance. Don't blow it America!

GO OBAMA!!
This is going to end up being the straw that breaks the camels back for a lot of people in this country.

Rev. Wright is free to say what ever the hell he wants, but when he attacks white people in this country in the manner in which he has, when he blames the U.S. for the 9/11 attacks, and supports people like Louis Farakan, Obama is going to pay dearly for his associations with Wright and the Trinity United Church of Christ.

Rev. Wright is an American hating, White People hating, Black radical whom Barack Obama has closely associated himself with for 20 years.

That kind of association for that length of time (45% of Obama's life) has everything to do with who Obama is today.

If a White candidate for President had attended KKK rallies for the past 20 years and then tried to say that they had only attended the rallies to purchase Girl Scout cookies, the Black people in this country would be rioting it the streets.

When three of four police officers accused of beating Rodney King were acquitted in Los Angeles in 1992, triggered rioting, looting, $1 billion in damage and 53 deaths; 2,383 injuries; more than 7000 fire responses; and 3,100 businesses being damaged by the black people of Los Angeles, just think what would happen if a White Presidential candidate had associated themselves with someone like Rev. Wright.

This shit would hit the fan and people the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton just to name A FEW would IMMEDIATELY be screaming bloody murder.
I cannot believe so many things about this situation.  I cannot believe NBC hasn't played these vidoes or has them posted.  I cannot believe Obama has said, "Words matter" and does not bother to explain away the words he has heard for over 20 years from this quack pastor.  This man believes it's okay to be racist --only if you are black.  The media is playing this down and it is a disservice to the American people.  I cannot stand Clinton, but will absolutely vote for her over this unbelievable association Obama has with this unfortunate anti-American.
This is much ado about nothing but more fear mongering, and this time I don't think the Clinton camp is behind this.  Although this probably helps her, the timing of this with the timing of Ferraro thing smells.  Obama spoke forcefully to these issues in 2007 (and he said more than the crazy uncle comment - when will those comments be encorporated in the journalistic dialogue?) and it took Ferraro's comments about 15 days to reach the MSM and only stayed in the forefront because of Ferraro's insistence on defending her remarks.  Why are Ferraro and Rev. Wright in the MSM now? I think this politic mischief is brought to us by a more right-wing faction.

Why do I call this more fear mongering?  There were no outcries that catholics leave their church after the sex scandals.  Virtually no rational American thought catholic parishiners were child molesters solely because of the acts of their priests and easily came to this conclusion in part because this religion is considered mainstream.

I suspect many Americans are not as familiar with UCC or other AA religious denominations and have a limited context/experience in which to perceive Rev. Wright.  Clearly the 9/11 comments are awful and cruel. I believe however, the overall body of his sermons is well within the religious mainstream.  People fear the unknown.

The Dallas Morning News has a link to Rev Wright's actual sermon from which Obama based his book, The Audacity of Hope.  It's audio only, rather long, and clearly 'religious' in its content, and certainly offers a different perspective of Rev. Wright.  It doesn't contain any rants, anti-American or pro-black separatist themes so I suspect it won't get much play in the MSM.
