Obama reviewing Mich. plan

Posted: Monday, March 17, 2008 7:09 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
The Obama campaign has put out an official statement on the Michigan re-vote proposal that is now circulating among state Democratic leaders and the two campaigns.

“Considering the fact that Senator Clinton is currently trying to prevent and delay votes in Texas from being counted because she didn't like the outcome, it's pretty apparent that the Clinton campaign’s views on voting are dependent on their own political interest.  Hillary Clinton herself said in January that the Michigan primary “didn’t count for anything.” Now, she is cynically trying to change the rules at the eleventh hour for her own benefit. We received a very complex proposal for Michigan re-vote legislation today and are reviewing it to make sure that any solution for Michigan is fair and practical.  We continue to believe a fair seating of the delegation deserves strong consideration.”

Nothing should be done!  RULES ARE RULES!  We have rules  for a reason - to play by the rules.  Just like laws - we have to obey the law, if not, we go to jail, pay fines, etc.. Why should it be any different with Michigan and Florida?  A citizen knows that if he/she violates the law, he/she will be punished by whatever law applies.  How should that be different for the heads of these two states?

As for voters for these two states, please do not use the argument that voters choice should count for something.  This implies that it is okay to break the rules as long as 'voters voice' is heard or counted.  That is just a whole bunch of bull.....By this logic, you should see plenty of "rules breaking", which can be justified because someone's voice can be heard/counted.  Wait and see what will happen next time elections come around.  It would not surprise me a bit if another state (or more) did just that and demanded to be 'taken care of' regardless, for the sake of the voters.  Please....

I think it is outrageous for Michigan to have a re-vote. Both states, Florida and Michigan, knew there would be no delegates awarded to the candidates when they decided to move up their primaries. The voters and candidates should have protested back in January if they had a problem with it. I think it is very unfair to the other 48 states that played by the rules. If Hillary Clinton is demanding a re-vote because she is losing then that is just too bad. I don't see Senator Obama asking for a re-vote in New York or Ohio. If rules were meant to be broken then I suppose our lawmakers should be out of a job! I know for certain that if this kind of nonsense was being done by the republicans, the democrats would be crying foul!
Nobody's vote will matter in this primary because the superdelgates will be deciding in the end, and the superdelegates are free to choose whoever they want; there is no rule that they must favor with the popular vote or the delegate vote. They will likely be choosing the most electable candidate; the person who they think has the best shot to beat McCain.
I don't get how people can support Hillary.  The tactics her campaign has been employing throughout this race are reminiscent of the 2000 election, almost a 'Rove, Lite' if you will.
