Maybe Obama should have done this last night, at 9 p.m., immediately after an intro that included Monday Night Football music. Or to be more seasonal, maybe Dick Vitale and Digger Phelps should be providing us some early blog coverage.

Aswini, don't waste your time reporting on the pre-speech hype in the auditorium.  Use your time wisely and research Paul v. Clinton.  Your report on that will get you much more recognition.

Am I weird? I am white and I didn't see anything that bad in Rev. Wright's clips. It seems to me a pastor should hold society accountable for its actions. Obama enabled this hate monger for 20 years – selecting him to conduct his wedding ceremony, selecting him to baptize his daughters, selecting him to bless his house and praying with him on the eve of his presidential announcement.

Then the audacity to deny that he had ever heard any of this race baiting hate – a total lie.  As the NY Times reported last year, Obama disinvited Rev. Wright from his presidential announcement because he knew his presecence would create controversy based on his past anti-American, anti-Semitic words and deeds.

Your only goal is to bring Obama down by association.  Our real goal, as a nation, should be to raise America up.  We need to stop worrying about all these petty little things, and focus on the issues, focus on what the American people NEED.  THAT is what's wrong with Washington.  We're too busy worrying abou what X politician's limo driver or preacher said, and we aren't worrying enough about what the politician actually believes.  We're too busy fighting to remember what we're fighting for.

Okay, I take it back (assuming First Read ever gets around to posting my first comment). I just read a transcript of the speech. That's a hell of a read, and I'm sure it won't be diminished with Obama's delivery.

What is amazing is that, if Rev. Wright had made essentially the same speech but quoted the biblical prophet Amos, instead of using profanity, he would have made essentially a mainstream Christian speech. Words matter. How much?  

He lied to us on Friday about not knowing about these statements. He can't pretty up a lie by his fancy talk.  This speech is just recycled Obama. Even the "in no other country on earth" line doesn't ring true. There are lots of democratic countryies with multicultural populations.

Where is the embargoed video? I want the full picture.

His remarks are like the speech he just gave LATE.

Tony Rezko is nothing...  Obama spent 90 minutes w/ the Chicago Tribune and 90 minutes w/ the Chicago Sun Times and answered all their questions - plus provided documentation.  Both papers reached the same conclusion - "there's no there there" and that the level of transparency would be something that the two other candidates (Clinton and McCain) would do well to emulate.

'...For once, Florida chaos did not drag on endlessly as the state's Democratic Party put a surprising end to the re-vote saga by deciding to hold no do-over primary. The party chair Karen Thurman released a statement announcing this unexpected move, and here are some excerpts:

   We spent the weekend reviewing your messages, and while your reasons vary widely, the consensus is clear: Florida doesn't want to vote again.

   So we won't...

   This doesn't mean that Democrats are giving up on Florida voters. It means that a solution will have to come from the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee, which is scheduled to meet again in April.


Thurman is transferring the pressure to find a resolution to the crisis to the DNC. This means that the state party is still determined to push to gets its delegates seated even without a new vote. We already know that this Committee will decide nothing in April and that the matter will be postponed to the summer. But we can already say that the Florida delegates cannot be seated if the Obama campaign does not want them to be, and if Clinton unexpectedly has the votes to impose her will, it probably means she has the votes to win the nomination.

This is thus first and foremost a crushing blow to Hillary's chances. (1) To catch up with Obama and his impressive delegate lead, she needs as large a reservoir of uncommitted delegates as possible, and there simply is not enough in the upcoming states to allow her to significantly cut into his lead -- which is why she was hoping that Florida and Michigan would be added to the mix. (2) This also takes away Clinton's hope of building momentum into the summer. Without Florida (and perhaps without Michigan), whatever momentum she rides will come out of April 22nd and May 6th, with a series of smaller states in the subsequent weeks. Not the most ideal calendar to get your groove back. (3) Perhaps most importantly, this makes it very difficult for Clinton to win the popular vote -- which she was hoping to be able to do if she won Pennsylvania on April 22nd and re-votes in Michigan and Florida. This would have allowed her to make a much stronger appeal to superdelegates....'
