Clinton camp hires another pollster

Posted: Tuesday, March 18, 2008 6:53 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Chuck Todd
First Read has learned that the Clinton campaign has hired Democratic pollster Geoff Garin to do polling for the campaign. Garin and his firm has plenty of experience polling in the upcoming battlegrounds of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Indiana.

The question becomes, of course: How does this impact pollster and chief strategist Mark Penn? Some in the campaign have been arguing for months that the chief strategist shouldn't be polling his own message ideas.

Garin, one of the most respected Dem pollsters in the country, is someone who will have instant credibility inside the campaign and -- more importantly -- with worried anti-Penn donors.

YES
IT IS ABOUT TIME HILLARY
MAKE YOUR MOVE TRUE DEMOCRATS ARE BEHIND YOU
FIRST READ:  A thought -- One way to view the time since Super Tuesday is that Obama, with his February run, delivered a near knockout blow to Hillary.  It wasn't quite a knockout because the electorate or the media or the democratic party had some hesitation on whether whites would except Obama as a candidate in sufficient numbers.  Misconsin seemed to allay those fear, Ohio re-ignited them.  And so here we are.  If This very good speech by Obama moves us past that question, then it is truly game over.  Hillary is out.  My guess is that it will.  Anyone who was "on the fence" about whether Obama's blackness should give them pause can only have seen his speech as honest and comforting and sympathetic to all races.  Anyone put off by his frank speech would never have voted for him anyway.  People on the fence  just want to know that Obama won't turn into Wright in the general election.  Everyone now knows he will not.  That is the last test he had to pass.  My guess is the polls will show he did in the coming days.  If so, will superdelegates use it as an opportunity to rally to Obama?
THE POLLS WILL SHOW THAT OBAMA IS DONE.

SORRY CHRIS MATTHEWS AND ALL MSNBC STAFF YOUR HORSE (OBAMA) IS DONE.

ANYONE BUT OBAMA

Hillary where the hell are your 2006 taxes?

I saw you didn't read Obama's speech like you didn't read the resolution for war in 2002. I wonder, do you read anything?

We know 11,000 pages of your daily activities will be released tomorrow so I'll expect a news conference from you sitting the sky is falling and we should all turn off our computers until the storm pass....

What a loser...
So Billary changes up the camp again, heh?   Can't wait to see which "Hillary"  we will see now!!

Also can't wait to see the White HOuse papers, the tax returns and the Clinton Library papers.

I'm sure the spin will be sweet!!!

Obama 08
ANYONE BUT OBAMA
I keep asking myself why Barrock Obama inspires me.  I have had conservative view all my life.  I loved Regan and his stupid pie charts.  I think it is a noble job to kill terrorist that want to kill all americans. I often listen, and sometimes agree with Michael Savage--God help him. So why do I listen?  I think in the end it is because I find that I AM SO SELFISH, AND BARROCK IS SO SELFLESS in all aspects of his stoic persona. Furthermore, I value loyality, in my family, friends and leaders--but most of all in my Leadership.  The only place that I have really experienced loyalty in my leadership was when I was and NCO in the military.  We truly looked out for eachother's well being.  Then, this Barrack fellow comes along and holds on to what appears to be a heavy weight around his neck (R. Wright.)  Not only does Barrack not drown, but he pulls the weight up and gently sets it down on the ship.  Now I'm  thinking bad thoughts--how can this guy excuse that guy. I wouldn't excuse that guy--he screwed-up my campaign.  But then I remember--I AM SELFISH and Barrack is selfless--like when we were in the army, taking care of one another.

I think I will vote for Obama--just to see if he is truly what he appears to be.  Let's see if he can bring our two disfunctional parties together, and restore the dignity, honor, and pride of America by ridding ourselves of special interest groups.

The promblem with  the Democratic party is that they are so removed from their constituency they have to hire polsters to find out what's going on. I would tell them to throw open there living room window and listen but their mansions are nowhere near where I live. HRC we need our jobs back form China and for the illegal aliens to home to their own country.
And she has been endorsed by Anti-War Superdelegate
Senator John Murtha
Clinton picks up a super delagate today with the endorsement of Rep. John Murtha of PA.
MORE CHAOS & IN-FIGHTING IN THE HILLARY CAMPAIGN.
IS MARK PENN DESTINED TO BE 'THROWN UNDER THE BUS?'

Deckchairs on the Titanic.  Too little, too late.

Patty in sd, care to contribute a few more?
Hillary is such an awesome candidate. She will make a great President. I am sure her new pollster will do an excellent job.

Obama is destroying the Democratic party and our chances of victory in November.

Obama is unelectable. Obama has chosen to continually interject racism and sexism into this campaign at his own peril.

His speech today did nothing to change the fact that he is unelectable. Obama made another fatal mistake in not completely disassociating himself from his toxic "pastor" Jeremiah Wright, an avowed racist, anti-white, anti-semitic, anti-American, pro-Louis Farakaan, black supremecy, Nation of Islam supporter.

Obama proved himself a liar today by admitting he had in fact been in the Wright "church" when offensive comments were made. All weekend Obama said he had "never heard Wright make offensive comments". Which is it??

Obama is SO OVER.

The only question that remains is how fast can the Dems get Obama out of the race?????

No Presidential nomination, No VP slot, I'll bet after this campaign debacle, Obama won't even be re-electable to the U.S. Senate from Illinois. (My pals in Chicago tell me Obama's negatives are rapidly rising there as well with the Wright outrage and the Rezko revelations, another Obama lie, he has not told the whole truth about Rezko, and admitted he did not tell the truth about how much money he took from Rezko, who is currently on criminal trial in Chicago) Why isn't MSNBC covering THIS story??????
So is he hired to include the Republicans who are fancifully involving themselves in the process to further divide the democrats?

I don't blame Garin, if they would pay me for nothing, I would take the money too.

What about Clinton and McCain's campaign person opposite Penn being in both campaigns.  Yes, Penn and McCain's campaign advisor worked closely together as Penn was his boss.

When is Clinton going to stop throwing money after bad?
I am beginning to think the DNC (Do Not Care) Party does not have the guts to stop this nonsense.  No wonder the Republicans are laughing and are able to damage.
Isn't this over now?  If MI and FL do not do revotes, she has no chance at landing a still highly remote popular vote victory...which means all she has left is a scorched earth or slander strategy against Obama in the hopes of flipping his super delegates.  Give it up Hillary...and do what Gore did...put the country ahead of yourself.
From The Houston Chronicle on 3/18/08.
'
TEXAS DELEGATE COUNT

This is the unofficial delegate count for Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
• Based on popular vote: Clinton, 65; Obama, 61

• Projected from caucuses: Clinton, 30; Obama, 37

• Superdelegates: Clinton, 12; Obama, 10; uncommitted, 13

• Unofficial total: Clinton, 107; Obama, 108
'
CHECK THIS OUT:
The Texas Democratic Party said Monday it had denied a request by Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign that it take extra steps to verify the signatures of election night caucus-goers before party conventions being held at the end of the month.

State chairman Boyd Richie said Texas Democrats will not "set up an unnecessary, ad hoc 'verification' process that could effectively disqualify delegates selected at their precinct conventions after the fact."

An estimated 1 million people attended Democratic caucuses after the party's presidential primary concluded March 4. Those caucuses began the process of choosing 67 pledged delegates to the party's national convention in Denver in August.

Clinton's campaign, in a letter to the state party Friday, said it wanted the signatures of those attending caucuses double-checked before county and state Senate district convention convene on March 29.

Richie said the party conventions already have rules in place to address complaints and problems.

I would like to mention that i read that Rep. John Murtha endorsed Senator clinton.  I believe that he is a superdelegate and a significant get for her.  Can first read let us readers know if this is true and if it is included in your delegate count
I really hate to break this to you folks, but if Obama is the nominee he will lose in November.  The 527s will run Jeremiah Wright clips in every white rural county in America, and you know what will happen.  Now, because of his stubbornness, MI will not get a re-vote, and neither will Florida.  If you think either of those states will back Obama you are high. He won't win Ohio or PA either.  What's that spell?  Say it with me: President John McCain.

If you democrats want to have any hope of winning the White House you need to get real and back Hillary Clinton.  As much as you Obamamites may hate her, she at least still has a shot at winning in November.  If you think a speech is going to magically heal the racial divide in this country, if you think that a speech is going to make people forget that when confronted with the Wright issue Obama's first reaction was to lie and cover up, then again you are high.

If you think the super delegates aren't having swiftboat flashbacks when they look at those Wright clips on YouTube, you're high.  They know he can't win.  The Republicans know he can't win.  And any Democrat who is loyal to their party, and the ultimate goal of regaining the White House, knows he can't win.  The super delegates are going to have to do their job and vote for Hillary.  If not then they are in effect going to nominate the less electable candidate by affirmative action (David Gregory, Chuck Todd, Joe Scarborough, et al have already been saying the super delegates are nervous about denying the black candidate the nomination), and McCain will win.

And why is all this happening?  Because like I've been telling you idiots over and over; Barack Obama is a duplicitous lying fraud politician just like all the rest.  If you hadn't been so easily duped by his image and speeches we wouldn't be in this mess.

Fortunately it's not too late.  Clinton will win PA, WV, IN, and if the Edwards endorsement rumor is true (he knows Obama can't win either) then she may have a good showing in NC, and possibly win.  The more votes and delegates she gets the more legitimate it will be when the super delegates back her (if they have the backbone to do what's best for the party).

If you Obamamites really want John McCain putting the next Supreme Court Justice on the bench (Stevens can't hold out forever; he's 89), not to mention all the other federal justices he'll be appointing so you lose more of your civil liberties (if that's possible) then by all means keep backing Obama.  But if you want to restore the Constitution, and move to energy independence you better support Hillary.  She's our last shot, whether you like it or not.
Somehow this makes me think of the Carole King song "Well, it's too late baby, yes, it's too late, though we really did try to make it . . . "
Why do we care?  The Dem race is over.  Somebody needs to be hired just to tell Billary as they are the only ones who do not seem to know this yet.  Hear that?  It's the fat lady singing.  Now, First Read, can we focus on the McCain/Obama race for POTUS as that is the only race still in existence.
You know, that is one more thing I've noticed about the Clinton campaign versus the Obama campaign...Obama (can react to things quickly underfire e.g., the Samantha Power issue, e.g., Hillary's Texas red phone ad, e.g., the fabulous speech today and the Huffington post and evening interviews before that).

Hillary through her campaign (reacts with delay and still may not have a chance of getting it right, e.g., the many different campaign "messages", not realizing that caucus states and indeed states after Feb. 5th ARE important [ok, she still hasn't realized that], Geraldine Ferraro's remarks)

Now, who do you want answering that phone.  Mr. "Can react quickly with a quality response" versus Ms. "I'll take awhile to answer and still not get it right."

Woman for Obama 08
(by the way...to respond to those in a prior thread...I am not a girl, I am a 40 something mom of two young children and I have two graduate degrees.  I am white (actually I am 1/4 Asian if you want to get technical and 3/4 white) and I live in a diverse working class town.  We struggle with money mainly because I have tried to be a stay at home mom with my kids (and I'm not being judgmental to those moms who work, I am merely pointing out the economic consequence to my family).  Also, people said Obama was quiet on matters of policy before.  While I agree that he did do a lot of the more "inspirational" talk early on in the campaign...he actually has been speaking out on policy for quite awhile.  You have only to look at his website, he has quite a few policy statements there.  But I agree that Hillary has at time been more talkative when it comes to policy.  I think they are, in general, fairly similar on issues.  I do not like her as a candidate mainly because of the way she has conducted herself in the campaign.  I won't rehash all those arguments here but I will continue to comment on that as needed.

Thanks...just clarifying from earlier.
On one street in my neighborhood, three Obama signs were up in three lawns last Friday. Today, all three of those Obama signs have been replaced with Hillary signs.

The Obamarama is OVER.

In this nation, it's may "God Bless America". NEVER< NEVER< NEVER< is it "God Dam- America" as Obama's "mentor" "pastor" "like a family member" Jeremiah Wright has shouted.

This defiant refusal by Obama not to completely disassociate himself from the toxic "pastor" Wright, an avowed racist, anti-white, anti-American, anti-semitic, pro-Louis Farakaan, Nation of Islam supporter is a fatal mistake. It will never go away.

Obama proved himself a liar at least twice in the last couple of days, last Friday he admitted to the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times that he had lied about the amount of money he had taken from Rezko, his other problem friend in Chicago, currently under criminal trial, and Obama lied all weekend about never having heard his "pastor" in church saying anything offensive, well, today he admitted that indeed he had been in his "church" and had heard offensive comments. The limited credibility that Obama had left is now gone.

Obama is unelectable.

While Senator Obama's speech was very enlightening and educational on the aspect of race we see one very important issue pushed aside.  That is the issue of gender.  Race is a tremendously important issue that we see all around us; at work, in our schools, or in our communities.  Also, we see a great gender biased surrounding those same areas.  So many comments are stated over and over on the news, claiming to be racist comments which in turn destroy the sincercity of someone.  What we don't see played over and over are comments like, "The reason she's a U.S. Senator, the reason she's a candidate for president, the reason she may be a front-runner is her husband messed around. That's how she got to be senator from New York. We keep forgetting it. She didn't win there on her merit."   Statements like that are made day after day on television and it is not replayed on every news network or newspaper over and over again.  Barack Obama is an amazing individual for what he has overcome and the history he is making, but that should not take away from the tremendous individual we see in Hillary Clinton.  Senator Hillary Clinton is the first female to ever win a presidential primary, where Senator Barack Obama is not the first African American to do the same.  Senator Clinton was not a "Clinton" when she was the first student to speak at commencement exercises for Wellesley College.  She was not a "Clinton" when she was one of a few females attending Yale Law School.  She was not a "Clinton" when she served as staff attorney for the Children's Defense Fund and as a consultant to the Carnegie Council on Children, nor was she a "Clinton" when she was a member of the impeachment inquiry staff in Washington, D.C. advising the House Committee on the Judiciary during the Watergate scandal.  Hillary and Bill Clinton became the "Clintons," because of there drive and intelligence.  We could go on and on to show why Hillary Clinton was a trailblazer, but our main focus should be on all females.  Females account for around 50% of the world's population, but yet account for around 2% of Fortune 500 CEOs.  Women make around 75 cents to the dollar of  their male counterparts.  Differences in gender are not only seen when it comes to the economy, but in every aspect of life.  In the beginning of the primary campaign the media focused more time on Senator Clinton's "cackle" and tears, then we did Senator Obama's legislative accomplishmnts or experience.    I hear more people openly say why they will not vote for Senator Clinton then those that say the same for Senator Obama and never are these reasons about experience.  Again, we could go on an on about the female disparities that exist in the world so we might want to think about following Senator Obama's race speech with a speech about gender.
Seems like a good move.
You need to get rid of Penn.  I don't think he's been good for your campaign and your supporters (including myself) would be happy to see him go and you would probably see another big boost in money support like you did after your last big personnel change.
Just getting ready for the general election.
How is this more newsworthy than Rep. Murtha's endorsement of HRC which, surprise, surprise, is no where to be found?
Hillary must be feeling her oats. Every time the campaign's future looks bright she hires more staff.
Two views are better than one.

This is for you Chuck Todd.

Go Hillary 2008!
"How does this impact pollster and chief strategist Mark Penn?"

It will have no impact as Penn says he pretty much has had no involvement on his own with the campaign.
Another shake-up in the Clinton campaign?  Go figure...  Imagine what her administration would be like...  Obama is trying to bring us together - please join the movement...  It's not 'Hillary's turn', as she would like everyone to believe..
Well this certainly won't add to their financial frustrations.  $4 million for Mark Penn and another how much for a second?

P.S. John McCain did it with ZERO!
Too little too late. A new guy to deliver the message that no matter what she does, she can't win. This is like playing tic tac toe with the computer in War Games. Hillary just wants global thermal nuclear war. Destruction assured, although for the Obama campaign is not a mutual decision. It is unilateral. Kinda like the bomb we dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Only this time, it drops in Denver.
This move all but cinches the election for Hillary.
Once again, the Clintons do not operate from a set of convictions/core beliefs, other than what is required by their out-of-control ambition.
Credibility?
We have credibility!
See!
Now would you please support the 527's with all you can when they call even though I won't know antyhing about that?
You can trust me with your money!
Really!
Don't listen to those Obamabots at Cnn, Time & Politico when they quote members of my campaign.
They're just part of the vast right no no no, left wing conspiracy that is out to get all of us if do not act now!
So act NOW!
Call direct.
Call collect.
Call TODAY!
Willing to do anything to get elected?  Check!
Willing to say anything to get elected?  Check!
New poster to tell the phony what to do and say?  Check!

I hope the door hits her hard on the way out.
patty,sd,ca....I truly understand your passion and all that support Hillary but in reality Mr. Obama is going to be the nominee of the Dems party.  There is no way the party leaders are going to overturn the 1) Most Votes 2) the most States won and 3) most Elected delegates.  This would be foolish for them to do so. Hillary camp has gotten out campaign since day one and she waited too late to change strategy. Sorry.
Clinton can hire as many hire priced campaign 'gurus' and the fact remains, that there is no mathematical way for her to change the final outcome without her hijacking the superdelegates - go ahead - start a revolution in the party... you already have GOP voters skewing the race.
Oh yea, look out Hillary is on her way to the White House. Finally voters are finding out what I've know all along...She's the one who will win. And thank heaven, we need her.
Makes a lot of sense in this case.  She will get better read on key areas in each state.  That will save money in the end.  Maybe Obama should hire a new pollster to let him know that he can't win the general if he continues to thumb his nose at MI (his supporters are now trying to block the revote) and FL (where his supporters have already blocked the vote).  Good job punishing the people who did not did not break the rules
I voted for Bill Clinton 2 times.  He did do good things for the country-namely bringing down the deficit.  However, I will never vote for Hillary Clinton.  I think she is so out-classed by Senator Obama.  I have listened to her rudeness and complete dissing of him on a regular basis.  I have no respect for her and I will leave the democratic party if she is on the ticket.  I detest her more everyday.  Senator Obama is a true leader, courteous and Presidential.  Hillary's mama never taught the rules about bragging and lying.  Her rhetoric is nauseating!    Barack Obama for President Now!
Hillary must try again for the Presidency in another 8 years. She will have even more experience  by then.
http://twocanpete.blogspot.com/
If the HRC crew would get of their extra wide middle age behinds and do some leg work they might have a chance. They could start by finding the ‘embargoed copy’ of the Rev. Wright video that Karen Tutuley spoke of on ON POINT on NPR this morning.

She said …"but there is in fact an embargoed copy of the speech that, umm has, already been circulated among reporters and uh, because of the embargo I can’t say what’s in it but it is a very powerful uh, and very complicated speech I must say..."

Well Karen why can’t you talk about it? You have no problem spilling the dirt on the Clintons. And what is the problem with HRC? Is this laziness, incompetence, or complicity?
Go Hillary! You can do it. We can do it!

To bad so many folks didn't see through the "Audacity of False Hope" before now. Obama is completely UNELECTIBLE... and the Right Reverend Wright has just put that front and center!
To: Cory Taylor

Hiring a pollster cinches the election for Clinton.......????? Where did you learn politics? Are you a citizen?  You must be smoking from the same pipe as Patty D.
She'll run the white house just like she runs her campaign - and that's not a compliment.  Thanks, but no thanks.  HRC supporters counting out Obama (who still has an unsurmountable LEAD) are ridiculous.
Enough of the PHONY CLINTON drama already. Go home.  Give it up.  Stick a fork in you.  It's over.  And not a minute too soon you nasty little people.
Saying Hillary has executive experience is like saying Yoko was a Beatle.
