Rice apologizes to Obama

Posted: Friday, March 21, 2008 11:00 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Libby Leist
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said this morning she has spoken to Obama today to express her regret over the unauthorized passport breaches. She did not know about it until yesterday and could not comment whether any laws were broken

"I told him that I was sorry, and I told him that I myself would be very disturbed if I learned somebody had looked into my passport," she said. "We are very concerned about this."

"We are going to do an investigation through the inspector general, who will get to the bottom of it to make certain nothing ... was going on"

VIDEO: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she will launch a full investigation into the unauthorized inquiry into Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's passport file.

The State Department is in contact with Obama's office and will provide briefings. "None of us wants to have a circumstance in which any Americans passport file is looked at in an unauthorized way," Rice added.

I am so impressed by her.  It amazes me how she can be in the middle of the pigpen and always come out unscathed.
Poor Obama, Poor Poor Obama.

Boo F*****G Hoo
I am willing to bet that the vast left wing clinton conspiracy was behind the passport "peeks"
Way to go Condi.  Clean it up now.

My #1 question: Who was looking at the files?

My #2 question: With whom did they share the information that they found?

We should ALL be mad as hell.  Barack Obama is a high-profile American.  This story is newsworthy because of that fact.  If they saw MY passport file, you can bet your sweet (p)ass(port) that it would never make the news.

The bigger the government gets, the less privacy we have.  Particularly with Phonetap McFlightsuit at the helm.

Ugh.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
What's the big deal? Identity theft or delving into one's personal records might be cause for concern but passports deal with one's origion and travel's which would be public record anyway.
Will Condoleeza reject and denounce the breach?
GOOD TO KNOW SOMEONE FROM CNN IS DOING THEIR JOB:

The full story behind Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s 9/11 sermon
Posted: 10:09 AM ET
As this whole sordid episode regarding the sermons of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright has played out over the last week, I wanted to understand what he ACTUALLY said in this speech. I’ve been saying all week on CNN that context is important, and I just wanted to know what the heck is going on.

I have now actually listened to the sermon Rev. Wright gave after September 11 titled, “The Day of Jerusalem’s Fall.” It was delivered on Sept. 16, 2001.

One of the most controversial statements in this sermon was when he mentioned “chickens coming home to roost.” He was actually quoting Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force, who was speaking on FOX News. That’s what he told the congregation.

He was quoting Peck as saying that America’s foreign policy has put the nation in peril:

“We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.

“We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.

“We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.

“We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.

“We bombed Qaddafi’s home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against the rock.

“We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they’d never get back home.

“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.

“Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.

“Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism. A white ambassador said that y’all, not a black militant. Not a reverend who preaches about racism. An ambassador whose eyes are wide open and who is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said the people we have wounded don’t have the military capability we have. But they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them. And we need to come to grips with that.”

He went on to describe seeing the photos of the aftermath of 9/11 because he was in Newark, N.J., when the planes struck. After turning on the TV and seeing the second plane slam into one of the twin towers, he spoke passionately about what if you never got a chance to say hello to your family again.

“What is the state of your family?” he asked.

And then he told his congregation that he loved them and asked the church to tell each other they loved themselves.

His sermon thesis:

1. This is a time for self-examination of ourselves and our families.

2. This is a time for social transformation (then he went on to say they won’t put me on PBS or national cable for what I’m about to say. Talk about prophetic!)

“We have got to change the way we have been doing things as a society,” he said.

Wright then said we can’t stop messing over people and thinking they can’t touch us. He said we may need to declare war on racism, injustice, and greed, instead of war on other countries.

“Maybe we need to declare war on AIDS. In five minutes the Congress found $40 billion to rebuild New York and the families that died in sudden death, do you think we can find the money to make medicine available for people who are dying a slow death? Maybe we need to declare war on the nation’s healthcare system that leaves the nation’s poor with no health coverage? Maybe we need to declare war on the mishandled educational system and provide quality education for everybody, every citizen, based on their ability to learn, not their ability to pay. This is a time for social transformation.”

3. This is time to tell God thank you for all that he has provided and that he gave him and others another chance to do His will.

By the way, nowhere in this sermon did he said “God damn America.” I’m not sure which sermon that came from.

This doesn’t explain anything away, nor does it absolve Wright of using the N-word, but what it does do is add an accurate perspective to this conversation.

The point that I have always made as a journalist is that our job is to seek the truth, and not the partial truth.

I am also listening to the other sermons delivered by Rev. Wright that have been the subject of controversy.

And let me be clear: Where I believe he was wrong and not justified in what he said based upon the facts, I will say so. But where the facts support his argument, that will also be said.

So stay tuned.

- Roland S. Martin, CNN Contributor
I still think The Clinton's had something to do with this.  This is right out of their playbook.
I am not sure much will come out of this other than a clear mishandling by the Bush admin. and a clear mishandling by the State dept.

It does however get the news cycle switched over to another topic besides the Rev. Wright junk that people can't seem to let go.

http://www.politivine.com
I don't recall the Clinton administration apologizing to any one of the 900 or so people who they had raw FBI files on.  Shows who has class and who is in the sewer.
When these public officials travel anywhere including abroad, they are photo-ops and should be made public. So why make a big deal of the passport sneak and peek of Obama by curious contractors?

For 20 years, Obama listened to his pastor's BREACH of ministerial conduct of anti-white and anti-American rhetoric.

Obama should apologize to America. He clearly does not know the difference from Wright and right by going to that Trinity church for so long.
Obama just needs to go away. The only thing he has done is stir up a mess. We need leadership for us all not the mess he has been taught and believes. When he speaks without having time to write a speech he speaks racist. This is not what our country needs. I hope the dems realize this before McCain cleans house with him.
"We are going to do an investigation through the inspector general, who will get to the bottom of it to make certain nothing ... was going on"

"Unless, of course, it can be tied to MY Administration. Then it will be swept under the rug with the rest of the dirt under there!"
HEY! YOU TYPICAL WHITE PUNDITS!... You just don't get it. Harp all you want on the non-story of State Dept. contract workers doing what they were not permited to do with Obama's records. What makes us laugh at you Collectivist stooges for Obama's & his vision of crypto-Socialism is, that you are so caught-up in your 'manlove' for Obama that you can't see just how racist his statement on his grandmother was...Tragic!
An investigation by the Inspector General (of the State Department) is not nearly an appropriate course of action.  The IG will have no jurisdiction to interrogate the two employees who have already been fired.  Determining if these employees had any political motives and/or associations will be an essential aspect of any investigation and will not be possible if they can not even be interviewed.  I for one find it suspicious that they were fired in the first place without their motives being more strongly evaluated.  The fact that Obama and the American people are simply being asked to trust the judgment of a low-level consular official who apparently simply trusted his or her gut that it was only "imprudent curiosity" is shameful and insulting, but my no means am I surprised after watching Bush gut our government by installing inept political hacks and foster an atmosphere of corruption.  "This must not stand... man!"
Every underhanded political tactic that has occurred against Obama can be linked to the Clintons.  Go Figure!
Ms Rice a person that holds a high position is a good example of the pastor wrights position being wrong. We have gotten a lot farthur than he or Obama gives us credit for.I believe this is good timeing and Obama will try to keep this in news as long as he can and hope it will stop wright time. Wrong! No one dams my country and than walks away. Obama is history. All the numbers show it. If Delegates want to shove him in  than we lose white house. There are a lot wont vote for him now.Numbers are growing pay attention.I think this is a farse and devergant.  next....
Go get em Condi!  Find out and let us know which of the Clinton surrogates were behind this. But don't use the water-boarding technique that you, Cheney and GWB like so much. Just use some good old fashion threats of criminal charges if these folks don't want to come clean.

NEW CBS POLL (Out Today)

Obama 48        McCain 43

Hillary 46      McCain 44

Ah, where is this shift?

Ok dumb a**, if you had bothered to read the entire results of the poll (which Obama and his supporters are incapable of); you would see EXACTLY why EVERY news organization is saying that Obama is slipping in the polls.

Yes the CBS poll shows that if the election were held today, Obama would beat John McCain 48 to 43, the point you're missing and failing to point out (how convenient) is that LAST MONTH in the SAME POLL, it showed Obama beating McCain 50 to 38.

That means that in one month, Obama HAS LOST 2 POINTS and McCain HAS GAINED 5 PIONTS.

This shows that Obama is losing ground and popularity.

Here's another example that you failed to notice (more like, point out)

CHOICE FOR DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION
(Among Democratic primary voters)

            Now        2/2008        1/2008

Obama:       46%         54%           27%
Clinton:     43%         38%           42%

Now since you're obviously incapable of making heads or tails of these numbers, I'll spell it out for you.

In January Clinton was ahead of Obama by 15 points.

In February Obama was ahead of Clinton by 16 points.

Good for Obama right?  After all he did actually gain a total of 31 points over Clinton from Jan to Feb.

Well yes, but from Feb to Mar while he is showing a 3 point lead over Clinton, it also means that he LOST 28 of the 31 points in one month that he had managed to pick up.

Additionally, these numbers also show that from Jan to Feb Clinton lost 4 points, but from Feb to Mar she gained those 4 points back + 1 for a total gain of 5 points of 5 points from Feb to Mar.

Obama on the other hand gained 27 points from Jan to Feb, but lost 8 points from Feb to March.

In almost every poll that is conducted there is usually a +/- 4/5 %.

From Jan to Mar Hillary's shift has been -4, then +5 which means she ALWAYS stays within a normal range in popularity.

From Jan to Mar Obama's shift has been +27, then -8 which mean he has much larger swings in the polls in his popularity.

These are the types of things that the Leaders and the Elders of the Democratic Party will take into consideration at the convention.

These are the same types of things that the Obama supporters don’t like to see/hear or take into consideration.

Since C A, Tuscaloosa, AL, conveniently commented on what he wanted to comment on, I have included the links to the CBS poll that C A is referring to for anyone who might be interested in looking at THE ENTIRE POLL , not just a couple of numbers taken out of context of the WHOLE picture.

I wonder if accessing passport data, which is examined everytime one enters a country, is worse than having political hacks accessing FBI files? I'd say there is not much to gain from passport data. Otherwise Clinton would have accessed passport data instead of FBI files on all of her opponents when she was in the White House. If she actually wins, Obama may find the hard way which is worse as the track record shows oponent's FBI files are the first thing the Clintons go after when they win.

Chuck,
Sometime this week a FirstRead commentor posted questions for Obama. I don't remember it exactly, but she asked him to answer questions regarding his birth name,if and when he changed his name, and why. I thought that it was a very stange post, but now wonder if these questions are related to the passport breach. What is the ugly underground doing? Follow that post.....
Sen. Obama is running for a public office. Is there something in Sen. Obama's passport records that he fears being disclosed? Is there any truth to Sen. Obama having dual citizenship? There have been reports that he also has citizenship with Kenya?
give me a break, look at my passport you idiots what do I have to hide, trips to Thailand?
How can some of you idiots say that Sen. Obama being upset over some people looking at his passport files is a political tactic?  Are you just that stupid?  How would you like for someone to assess your personal information?  If you do not think that this is a big deal then why don't you post your social security number on your post as well as your name, address, and phone number.  If you have a passport file, why don't you post that while you are at it.
With three people knowing Baracks date of birth, address, SSN, and possibly seeing his birth certificate, I just don't know how Obama holds up under the strain. More people know more information about you when you apply for a credit card then these three people know about Obama.

Three words Obama-nuts: Get a grip!
With all due respect the investegation can nto be done internally. Where's the FBI.

Why wasn't his file locked after the first breach, this is ridiculous.

Heads have got to roll on this one. I do not care how high. Supervisors need to lose there jobs right now.

If this is a governemnt of laws lets use them!
Rice is probably the only respectable person left in the current administration. When she isn't pandoring for Bush.

White men over 40 for Obama.
Vote for Obama!
Tell him to apologize to us for the racist things he has been witness to in his church. Tell him to apologize for saying typical white people. He is out of touch with America. Apolagize and drop out Barry. Look at the news you have started awful hard feelings..
This Personal security breach is Highly suspect from several aspect's.3 times this happened & it stayed at a mid-level(state department says)discussion.Conspiracy theorist will rightly look at the Clinton person's connection with this particular department, the timing(novak's claim back in janurary)GOP connection's, etc.

Bill Clinton's Invitation to Mr.Wright for prayer at the Whitehouse is an example of the Respect Bill had for him. This is a Positive for Barack's campaign ever how the MSM cares to Spin it.

As a Barack supporter, i'm interested in How much(little)has been raised since this Wright contraversy.I'm also disapointed with his Typical white person comment.I know what he probably meant to say, which it is a generational thing with His Grandmother. My 77 year old Mom has tendacies like he suggest, & me & her sometimes argue about that. The Truth need's to be told, whoever you may be.That's why i tell my kid's to be Straight up with People & they'll either like you for being Honest or they won't. But it will be their problem, Not your's if they can't handle Honesty.I call it, taking all the guesswork out of the equation.

Richardson's Endorsement comes at a time when Barack needed a Highly regarded Democratic endorsement.I'm sure this a Major disappointment personally for the Clinton campaign. It would've meant a little more coming before Texas & Ohio, (timing is Everything)but, better late than Never.

Hopefully America will move on to More Important discussion's, but who knows, we are fickle People.
Put yourself in this position.  If someone had looked at your personal information- wouldn't you be furious about it?  And then think about this.  If the anyone can access a presidental canidate's passport info, how safe do you think your own is?
Wright was quoting Ambassador EDWARD PECK……..the video is on youtube…when he said “GOD damn America” and other…..PEOPLE crucified Wright and OBAMA, based on a QUOTE….

IGNORANCE BEGETS IGNORANCE!

DON”T you people feel stupid!

I knew the words were not in context, or the NEWS would have played the WHOLE speech.  IT was actually a speech right out of the BIBLE, if the NEW had played the WHOLE thing!!!

See what happens when you ASSUME!

I don't buy the innocent explanation for this breach in security. I suspect that the trail leads back to the office of Chicken Dick Cheney, who is desperate to avoid prosecution for war crimes should a Democrat win the White House.

As for Obama's "Wright problem," the new media spin, now adopted by Chris Matthews and other talking airheads, is that Obama sat throught sermons by Wright constantly peppered with anti-American diatribes and conspiracy theories for 20 years. What a load of garbage you "journalists" are trying to peddle.

There were only a few instances of Wright's over-the-top rhetoric found so far, despite the wingnuts zealous attempts to find more. Obama's claim that he was unaware of the most extreme of Wright's statements is completely credible. Most, if not all, of those statements seem to have been made since Obama's election to the Illinois Senate and the US Senate, when he was spending much time away from Chicago.

The burden of proof should be on the "journalists" to prove their vile insinuations. But of course, being a journalist these days means you don't have to worry about trivial stuff like facts.

The politician who had a really bad week was the befuddled (or lying) John McCain, who exposed the fact that either he didn't really know the difference between Sunni Iraqi extremists and Shia Iran or that he was trying to deceive the public about a bogus connection between Iran and al Qaeda. And it was no slip of the tongue, since he repeated the same nonsense three times in two days. Monumental deceit or monumental incompetence are the only explanations. Either should disqualify McCain as president of the US. That's why the "journalists" were desperately trying to spin his absurd Having this guy as president is like letting someone drive the family car who doesn't know the difference between the gas pedal and the brake. More Bush-like disasters clearly await us if he wins the White House.
When I was a DOE auditor, I sometimes "looked" at documents I technically wasn't suppose to,(some good stuff) but I never did anything with the info.  It was just pure curiousity.  Looking back, I probably should have been fired but people weren't so politically correct then.  I also have had a passport and lived in a foreign country for a number of years and I can't imagine any info on Obama's application that would be that interesting. He isn't even interesting. It seems it would be only interesting if someone was into ID identity theft.  This is such a non-issue, but for political reasons, why not run with it, and I guess they are going to do just that.  Snore.
Some of the comments on this blog have made me understand how the tactics of former FBI Director Ms. J. Edgar Hoover survived for 40 years.
Polls (Sent Friday, March 21, 2008 11:17 AM)

Did that make you feel better?  I hope you spend at least half as much time studying the issues as you do studying the polls.  But why do I think you don’t?  C A’s posts show great understanding of the issues and how life really works.  Next time, pick on someone your own size and try addressing something substantive instead of engaging in name-calling and belittling remarks.

Or is that something that Clinton supporters are “incapable of”?

Obama 08

This would be the inspector general's office formerly headed by Howard "Cookie" Krongard, who "investigated" contract fraud in Iraq by not sending any investigators? Who ordered staff not to cooperate with a Justice Department investigation, to the point where his own staff complained about being ordered to "stand down and not assist"? Who "investigated" contract abuse by Blackwater while he was "unaware" that his brother "Buzzy" Krongard was on Blackwater's board? Who finally resigned after it became clear that he couldn't continue to pretend to be competent while simultaneously claiming to know nothing about anything and failing to carry out any investigative activity which was the business of his office?

Let me know how that investigation turns out.

So they breached Clinton's file to huh idiot?
I have to respond to one of the blogs here that asks how does Obama stand up under the strain. And my response would be, "very well, Thank you."

Senator Clinton's campaign said Senator Obama needed to be vetted. Well..... they certainly have made sure that has happened. And as far as I can see, Senator Obama has handled all of the "kitchen sink" strategy with unsurpassed "Grace under fire". He has not once been seen yelling into a camera lens, pointing fingers and saying "Shame on you." He has not gone around blaming everyone else for his mistakes. He has owned up to them and is learning from them. That is what is important. And that is what a responsible, intelligent, mature candidate should do.

The Clinton's NEVER take responsibility. The never say, "I made a mistake". They see it as a weakness. And when things are not going their way, they are oft times seen pointing, yelling and displaying varying levels of contempt for reporters, opponents and the like.

I for one want a Presidential Candidate that remains calm and collected. When that 3:00 a.m. phone call comes in, I want my President to show the same demeanor as Senator Obama has shown with this firestorm falling down all around him.

Whether or not you like Senator Obama, if you stop and catch your breath, you have to admit he has remained calm, appeared extremely Presidential and has handled himself with a poise and class you would NEVER see displayed by any other Democratic Candidate still in this race.

OBAMA '08 - YES WE CAN!!
Obama should file a law suit for this shameful breach.
FOR ALL THOSE INDIVIDUALS WONDERING WHAT'S THE FUSS ABOUT:

Passport files do not only show you travels done around the world. It all so shows personal information: SS#, Living Address, Phones Numbers, email addresses. Your passport files almost holds your whole life info.

Who cares, maybe they were seeing how much time he spent over seas with all his muslim friends.
To all the people who are on this site saying that the information on ones passport is public knowledge and that it is insane for anyone to be upset at others knowing that info please post all your passport info as well as all stamps and pictures in it in your next response!!          Yea thats what I thought be accountable for what you say or it means nothing.  and by the way Hillary's passport was also breached, know lets see how many people change there stance on this issue.
Youn know, this apolgy crap is really getting out of hand.  It seems that the whole country is sorry to Barack for something.  Tell you what, if he gets elected, we really will have something to be sorry about.
Nice to see that Wright was quoting U.S. Ambassador Peck.  Too bad that was not reported.  Also a shame that Obama's passports was looked at multiple times.  Too bad it took months to have it reported.  This country, according to some of these posts, is so full of hatred that I really don't care what happens to the U.S. anymore. Cheney feels he does not answer to anybody.  Majority of Americans don't support the war?  "So!" That's Cheney's answer. What ya gonna do? I'll vote for Obama and try to save myself from going down with it.  America is good at one thing, killing people (except for bin Laden)!!!
Obama is glad this took Rev. Wright out of the news cycle.  And he'd like everyone to forget that he threw his own grandmother under the bus.  Except that he backed up the up the bus yesterday and ran over her again with remarks in Philly.
Why are Clinton supporters trying to minimize a breach of public records ?

Is it because the Clintons did the SAME THING with FBI records ?

Should the government allow political hacks access to government records ?

Was anyone prosecuted for the Clintons misuse of FBI records ?

Is this mentioned in the release of Hillary's White House logs ?
10:00 am Snooping on opponents FBI records
12:00 Lunch with Marc Rich's wife
02:00 Supporting NAFTA in private forums
I am sick and tired of all of this, if and when America goes down the toilet it will be because of those Americans with the same mind set as some on this blog. For one Sen. Obama has done nothing more than to try and run an honorable campaign and what does he get for his effort? Total and blatant lies about his work record, being accused of playing the race card when in actuality others brought up the issue. Now people are poking around in this man private info. This country has some real problems to address but some including the media wants to just set back and try to bring down this one man. Keep it up America…don’t complain when in two years under an McCain administration when you are paying 7 to 8 dollars for gas and you’re living in the streets. The people you should really be focusing on will continue to be rich and they will continue to take away your rights and send your sons and daughters to unnecessary wars.
Obama is seeming more like a crybaby all the time.  I don't see what the big deal is.  I don't even have a passport file because I've never been able to afford to travel outside the country, I'm sure he wouldn't know about that.
FWIW, McCain and Hillary's passport files have also been breached. One might think that there is a vast right-wing conspiracy going on (McCain wasn't exactly the Republican party's poster boy, so perhaps they wanted to undermine him).

I think a simpler explanation is that some contractors get a bit curious and start doing inappropriate things.
