Obama gives fiery speech after endorsement

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
PORTLAND -- After Richardson endorsed Obama this morning, hailing him as a "once in a lifetime leader," Obama gave one of the fieriest speeches he has delivered in weeks.

"It's not just a change in parties. It's not just putting forward a bunch of ten point plans. It's restoring a sense that this government is working for you and fighting for you and is of and by the United States of America," he said.

He and Richardson took the stage together, and they hugged twice, when Richardson turned to Obama to say he endorsed him for president and at the end of his speech.  The largely white audience in Portland, shouted, screamed and chanted "Yes We Can!" To which Richardson, who had sprinkled some Spanish into his speech, shouted back, "Si se puede! Si se puede!"

I RATHER THOOUGHT THE SPEECH WAS BORING
AND THIS ENDORSEMENT DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING...

OBAMA'S POPULARITY IS STILL GOING DOWN......HIS JUDGEMENT IS STILL FLAWED!!!

AND HE WILL NOT BECOME THE PRESIDENCY...

"It's not just a change in parties. It's not just putting forward a bunch of ten point plans. It's restoring a sense that this government is working for you and fighting for you and is of and by the United States of America," he said.

Once in a lifetime, for sure.

Obama 08
i have to say i couldn't help but think about the strength of an obama/richardson ticket... throughout the entire endorsement. What a wonderful pair these two would make!! talk about a sea change in an incredible direction. ..and Richardson would bring his incredible judgement of foreign policy and governing experience. Powerful.. i was moved and so incredibly proud to be an american watching Richardson endorse Obama this morning.
It was a very good speech! I'm not sure why you would say it was "fiery", but definitely a powerful delivery.

GoBama!!!
I am moved by those who grasp Obama's message. Richardson as a world diplomat can understand Obama's style of listening, trading ideas, solving problems.  All along, I've known that Obama as President would send a powerful message to the world that we are ready to become a cosmopolitan and enlightened people.
I've read so many intelligent and insightful posts on these sites.  I hope you don't mind but I'm printing some out to make a scrapbook.  I live in a "shotguns and pickups" repub town.  When I'm feeling down, it will be a comfort to again read your posts and know you are out there.
Bill Richardson thinks he is going to 'Deliver' the Hispanic vote to the Obama Camp... he might want to re-think this thought as many are AMERICAN CITIZENS who have had to be subjected to vile ANTI-AMERICAN rhetoric from REV. Wright for the past week !!

Hispanic voters understand and know more than America thinks. They are a HUGE part of this beautiful country and are not easily swayed by endorsements.

Nice try Bill... but far.... far too late. Where were you prior to New Mexico's vote???
Obama/Richardson would make a wonderful ticket.

Hillary must step down, and soon.  For all that claim Obama is unelectable, you must thing that someone with such low trustworthy and like-ability can.  It is a falacy that she is going to be a better candidate than Obama, just look at which one has conducted himself in a Presidential Manner.

Certainly not Hillary.  "Yes We can" shows a belief in the People in this great Country.  Hillary just shows a belief that this counrty is petty and immature.

Obama '08 (with a hope for Richardson as Veep)

Obam
Awesome! I would love to see these two men be apart of the same ticket and then turn the sorry sad state of the union around for the betterment of us all as AMERICANS!!!

Obama/Richardson '08!!!!!
From a previous thread, somebody posted a youtube video that PROVES the media have distorted Rev. Wright's words about 9/11. When he talked about chickens coming home to roost he was quoting a United States Ambassador:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ&feature=related

However, this doesn't appear to explain the "God d*** America" comment, which was really over the line. But it looks like in TWENTY years that Obama attended this church, he only said one thing that was truly out of bounds.

BTW: It's interesting how white racists enjoy calling black people racists. Whatever his failings, Wright said not a single word against the "white race" or white people in general that could be considered racist. It would have been racist if he had said whites were inferior mentally or born evil or some such, but that's not what he did; he was attacking the white power structure. That's a big difference, except to  white racists.

PEOPLE WHO TALK IN CAPS ARE SUPER SERIOUS.  NOT JUST ANYONE CAN WIELD THE CAPSLOCK KEY.  HEAD THEIR WARNING,  OBAMA IS DONE.  IT IS SAID IN CAPS SO IT MUST BE TRUE, JUST LIKE EVERYTHING SAID ON TELEVISION AND TALK RADIO.  NO NEED FOR FURTHER THOUGHT, GO BACK TO WATCHING AMERICAN IDOL.
"Once the superdelegates realize Obama is a white and Jew hating racist, they will have to come back to Hillary, when they were correct in the first place. The tide is turning quickly" (J fl).
First Read should not even have allowed this kind of extremist view to be posted, because there is not anything to suggest Obama is what "J Fl" thinks in his world of doped fantasy. I feel sorry or you, for you seem like a very alienated person who unfortunately espouses fascism.
Try some study prudent study of history that approaches subjects in an objective manner to help you wise up. Seek counseling or aversion therapy -- remember we all learn to be racists, sexists, religious extremists, etc. because of the influences of our environment and our families, not innately so. In fact, I once acted so hatefully towards blacks and Hispanics -- only to be converted to a compassionate and reasoning individual with my study of sociology and psychology.
I frankly have never heard Obama say anything to suggest he harbors any racist and sexist views like you, nor do I have any written evidence on the web whatsoever. My gut tells me you are truly an ignorant bigot.

"What a wonderful pair these two would make"

Indeed, Richardson would be an outstanding running mate for Obama.

Not sure how much support this endorsement will bring though, now that the majority of the big Latino-vote states are done with(unless by some quirk of fate we have a vote in Florida), but it was a nice boost for Obama given all the bad news coverage he's had over the last week.
WILL THIS LEAD OTHER SUPERDELGATES TO FOLLOW SUIT?
Houston - BTW: It's interesting how white racists enjoy calling black people racists. Whatever his failings, Wright said not a single word against the "white race" or white people in general that could be considered racist.

Sure, just like Obama calling his grandmother a racist.
The most important comment Richardson made was that it is time for the Democrats to unite behind their nominee, Barack Obama, so we can take on the Republicans in the fall. I hope Hillary was listening.
Well done, Richardson and Obama!!

To those still hung up on the Wright thing:

Context, please:  According to religious scholars - black, white, Christian, Jew - Wright's rantings were typical of African American sermons. They take a critical eye to their nation -- out of a desire to IMPROVE their nation - not out of hate (though it seems that way to those outside his world). Their world view comes from slavery. Their sermons are loud. White sermons soft. It's a cultural divide.

That's not to say I approve of Wright. I don't. The video clip disgusted me. But I am a white Christian. I am not of that culture.

Obama is white AND black. He cut his political teeth helping those in Wright's parish. That is why he is part of Wright's congregation. It's to support the poor African Americans in Chicago. What's wrong with that? Obama is NOT his pastor. He is NOT a sheep.

As a mixed-race person, Obama understands both cultures. If you are not mixed-race, you cannot judge because you do not understand.

Let's move on.
THE NEXT OBAMA ENDORSEMENTS:

The next endorsements for Obama to follow will be that of Biden and Edwards. I knew soon after Obama's speech on race relations he would be gaining some major endorsements. And then those supporting Hillary will come on the blog to make up some excuse why Biden's and Edward's endorsements mean very little as well. But that is ok. We understand that the  frustration and pain of the Hillary supporters will be tripled and we'll understand.

If Obama does not have Richardson in mind for the VP slot Richardson would also make a wonderful Secretary of State. He has the smarts, experience and mannerism to be a wonderful diplomat for the US acrois the globe.

I noticed that last night Obama stated he would even call upon Bill Clinton and George Bush Senior to help get our status in the world back to where it was before the G W Bush years. Good for you Obama. Both Bill and Bush Senior would be handy in working with Richardson to help improve America's respect in the world and further cooperation with other countries to end terrorists threats no matter where they might pop up their ugly heads.
Jennifer, I couldn't agree with you more.  An Obama/Richardson ticket would be awesome!

Talk about 2 loving souls wanting to make a change in Washington.
Actually, Obama has shown himself to be the president that we need. I'm just angry that I've been so dead-set on Hillary winning and not wanting to just let that go.

Go Obama...for all of us!
Omaba gives 'Fiery' Speech ??

Ummmm, lets see -  Just like his Reverend and Spiritual Advisor?  Or was it more of the same   ..."Vote for me.. really, I am Change we all can believe in."
Bill Richardson is just trying to his ONCE IN A LIFETIME VP nod.

'Cause if Hillary wins, she will take Obama as VP (as she has stated before).

With Hillary never wanting to play 2nd, Obama will take Richardson as his VP.

It is all a political calculation on B.Richardson's part.
This is great.  Richarson would be a good Veep.

Wonderful speech.

Once in a lifetime.  The time for a real change of direction, change of method and change of mindset is now.
An Obama/Richardson ticket would be sweet.  I was pulling for Richardson early in the Democratic primary race.

However, I don't think you'll see that.  My guess is that if (when) Obama gets the nomination, he'll want to pair up with someone who has military credentials.  My guess is that he'd pick someone like Jim Webb of Virginia.

Just a thought.

http://thepajamapundit.com/
This endorsement has made my day. I bet Jay leno wished he had invited Richardson on his show instead of John Edwards. Leno thought he was going to get a scoop and all the headlines today. ha ha ha!!
I am so pleased to be a supporter of Obama. It makes me proud to be an American. I am very proud of Richardson also. I think he would be a good running mate for Obama. Both of these men are great Americans and make me proud to be able to vote in the general election.
Obama will have a great career as an inspirational speaker. As President though, not so much.
It's really important that those who dismiss Obama as only a good speech giver who are poised as we speak to dismiss him, consider this:  To be an EFFECTIVE president, people have to trust that you care about the electorate, that you really aren't only for the poor, or only for the rich, or that you play politics and fail to make bridges between the two main parties. Inspiring people is about them trusting you and being willing to follow your lead.  Today, in that speech Obama indirectly addressed the charges he's vague on policy. He said, it's not just about having a 10 point plan. And it isn't.  That matters GREATLY; however, no plan can be implemented with a hostile Congress. When that happens, the only power a president has is the power of refusal -- to veto legislation. But he/she can't put forth and make legislation or get their budgets passed. So, for those who will try to say, there he goes again with another great speech, I remind you that he isn't doing a parlor trick. He's speaking in a way people are RESPONDING to -- engendering hope. That's not something any other candidate has been able to do. It matters. Those who are benefiting from the status quo, who like things the way they are, respond to Obama also, strongly and virulently. They sense he is shaking up the boat. The good news is that I think there are more of us who aren't satisfied with the way things are and have been, and we will vote in numbers that push for change, real change we feel in our logical minds and our feeling hearts. Reading these blogs/comments on this website has been instructive. What I hear from many of you are gross overgeneralization, and snarky one-liners. More than that, I read the fear underneath, the hatred of the unknown and the distrust to give anyone who's different a chance. You aren't presenting your best selves, but your petty, mean-spirited selves that you would be ashamed to show face to face. The negativity and tit for tat nature of your comments underwhelm and disappoint me. Obama isn't a savior. He's just a man, an honest and decent one. As hard as it is to believe, and I didn't think it possible either, a politician can be a person of honor who wants to be a public servant, concerned with the fate of the electorate, not his/her own personal gain and glory. Give Obama a chance so you can give yourself a chance. He couldn't do as poorly as the current presidnet has. And none of you despite your exclamations really believe he's Muslim, anti-White with a hidden agenda or allegiance to just Blacks or some foreign hidden tyrant. That's nonsense. And we've had plenty of presidents who lacked "experience" and all of them quickly gathered experts around them to make up for their deficiency. If you don't vote for him, at least don't kid yourself and pass of irrational hatred and fear as reasonable and thoughtful opinions. God Bless each and everyone of us.
Obama, to me, must be not just an ordinary human being but indeed an Advanced Soul, come to lead America out of this mess, if we no if They, let them, but we too have a say in this Democracy, this Barack well knows.  Through this trial-by-fire, recently experienced by him, he has been Humble, Noncombative, Noncritical and committed to doing his work on this earth to make it a more better and perfect union.  He has kept his promise not to tear one another down but to build us up.  He has courage in the face of fire, not a courage of anger but a courage of goodwill and harmlessness in spite of the difficulties.  That is why he can say with honesty that he can work with the other side because where others see hate, he sees love and the good within an individual... that takes a special person to see the good when bad is all around that person and may be to bring that good out within that person.. to transform them, while all the time transforming theirself.
This Richardson endorsement speaks VOLUMES about Billary CLinton.   Bill Richardson was a cabinet member of Bill Clinton, and worked closely with the CLinton campaign.  He knows Billary well, and yet he doesn't endorse them?   I wonder why?  Probably because he knows how Billary works and he knows she will never be able to accomplish anything in Washington, because she is TOOOOOO polarizing.

This is GREAT for Obama.  I look for other supers to follow very soon, and get this silliness over with so we can focus on the REAL problem-John McCain.

Obama 08
So I'm curious, if Obama get the presidency, and fails miserably, will you all still be obsessed with him because of his speeches? All he has are words, and his speeches are dimestore -- it's like watching a movie.

"Vague approach to a commonly known but little-addressed problem in America. How that problem has developed, and how it affects him on a personal leve. Vague explanation of how fixing that problem will make America awesome! State the obvious. Then state something else obvious! Make the audience FEEL POWERFUL! CORNY PATRIOTIC ONELINER, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!

Boom. That's the format.  Now go fill in the blanks and get elected President.
I just hope all of the angry and frustrated Clinton supporters can back Obama when he wins the nomination.  As polls show, Obama supporters would rally behind Clinton.  I would hate to see Clinton supporters become as divisive and bitter as their candidate.
For those of you who are still stuck on Obama called his grandmother racist, I have two comments for you.

1. Either you are willfully, ignorant, dangerously naive, or a paid troll. If you are the first two then you are easily manipulated by mainstream media. I suggest you move on to my second point. If you are just a paid troll, then no worries, do your thing because nothing I say will matter anyway.

2. Obama never called his grandmother racist. He used the example of his grandmother to make the point that the people we love sometimes say things that we don't agree with. So we can disagree without cutting people we love out of our lives completely. He used his mixed race to put forward the example of loving a black pastor and a white grandmother as both being the reality of his life regardless of his disagreement on their opinions.

Obama cannot be responsible for the opinions of other people. He can only disagree. But it doesn't mean he has to completely hate these people because they are not as "hateful" as the media made them out to be. A person is more than an endlessly looped 30 second clip of a sermon.
Obama wants us all to come together and UNITE as one strong America, Right??

Well, then.. whats up with Obama not wanting millions of voices of AMERICA to actually come together and VOTE?
By not agreeing to a RE-VOTE in MI or FL he is saying to America..

"I may say things from time to time, but it is just political rhetoric"  --Just like his econoimic adviser said about Obama speeking out on NAFTA prior to his debate with Sen. Clinton...

But hey, they are "JUST WORDS" right?
Thanks Governor Richardson! Thanks for pointing out that Obama's recent speech on race in America says that Obama "understands clearly that only by bringing people together, only by bridging our differences can we all succeed together as Americans." Thanks for speaking your heart in saying that, "He appealed to the best in us … as a Hispanic American I was particularly touched by his words." You are not alone in your words my brother, for in most of our patriotic hearts we all want to be one people, One America!  I pray more Americans will see beyond the curtain of dividedness some have placed between us. VOTE OBAMA!
20 years with a racist and America hater jeremiah wright............ JUDGEMENT.
Meeting with and befriending a known terrorist bill ayers........ JUDGEMENT.
Lying about campaign funds from Tony Rezko .....JUDGEMENT.
Allowing a corrupt and influence peddler Tony Rezko to pay for your house with Iraqi Oil for food money............ JUDGEMENT.
Blaming your grandmother for your racist friend rant against white people and America........ JUDGEMENT.
Alowing your children to be indoctrinated by pastor wright racist hatred for America rant.....JUDGEMENT.
Not wearing a lapel pin.........JUDGEMENT
Having the audacity to give a speech and blame all Americans for creating your racist hatefill pastor......... JUDGEMENT.

So to bill richardson, thanks for reafirming the reasons why barack obama IS NOT and WILL NOT be good for AMERICA.

To Hillary Clinton, bill richardson just endorse the REASONS why you SHOULD BE and WILL BE the next PRESIDENT of the United States of America.......JUDGEMENT...JUDGEMENT....JUDGEMENT
THIS ENDORSEMENT DOES NOT CHANGE ANYTHING...

OBAMA'S POPULARITY IS STILL GOING DOWN......HIS JUDGEMENT IS STILL FLAWED!!!

AND HE WILL NOT BECOME THE PRESIDENCY...
Unbelievable!!! What a sight for sore eyes, I am for once speechless,NOT!!The true racist, bigots an unamerican trash are boiling over, probably not tho, refused to see or hear what either one of those truely American individuals had to say. The year is 2008, a time for change a time for new ideas and a time to bring the voice of this country together as one UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!

And for those of you who think Obama is done, the man hasnt even started.
Obama is such a liar.

If he thinks he can just bring Republicans together with Democrats b/c he's a nice guy and he gives inspiring speeches, he is being soooo clueless.  Does he really expect Republicans to join him on pulling troops out of Iraq and fight global warming?

GET REAL!
So, if I read this correctly, it's not about actaully getting anything done, it's all about making fluffy speeches that make people feel better.  If that's what you want, go with Obama, by all means.

Hillary 08
without the Clintons, Richardson would be nothing, another politician who rode in on the Clinton wave, and is backstabbing for another political gain! what a disgrace to the Hispanic Community!
Third attempt to post come on guys!
HEY ALL YOU CLINTONISTAS!

I'll see your Jack Murtha and raise you a Bill Richardson. This guy used to WORK FOR THE CLINTONS and is now endorsing Obama. That in itself should speak volumes to you.
BTW HillBilly have their own connection to Reverand Wright as well.
Gee the released schedule of Hillary's years as first lady indicate: 1 she was a lot more involved and supportive of NAFTA than she has said.
2 Her foriegn policy "experience" really is of the "tea and cookies" kind.
I have spent much of the last 15 years defending the Clintons. I will no longer do so.
Senator Obama truly is a "once in a lifetime leader" how can you support a dishonest, gutless, triangulating, whichever way the wind blows hack like Hillary Clinton?
Obama in 08!
Obama is brilliant.  He's the only Democrat in, what, 40 years who's worthy of picking up the FDR/JFK/MLK torch.

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!
"It's not just a change in parties. It's not just putting forward a bunch of ten point plans. It's restoring a sense that this government is working for you and fighting for you and is of and by the United States of America," he said.

I wonder if the registered and loyal Democrats in Florida and Michigan get a sense that Barach is working and fighting for them?

Or Does Obama only fight for people and causes when it benefits him?
Does he really expect Republicans to join him on pulling troops out of Iraq and fight global warming?
GET REAL! Jack (Sent Friday, March 21, 2008 2:42 PM):

Jack: Isn't that what Hillary was hoping to do as well. So therefore are you calling them both liars?

my fellow democrats, independents, & obamicans (even the Hillary lovers).I am pleading that we all wake up before it's too late.I cannot beleive that some of my fellow democrats are entertaining the thought that Obama is racist. That would mean that he is prejudiced againts himself, since he is half white.
I am a black female, married to a white man, with biracial children.I also attend what some consider a "controversial" church similar to rev Wright's.Although I disagree with alot of the statements made sometimes, I can identify with my elder brethren's anger.See what I understand is that some AA have lived during segregation, getting their heads beat in, & humiliated.None of what any of these so called "pundits" or their families have endured. So who are they to criticize Rev Wright at all.I identify with Barrack.Just because I attend a pro-black church does not mean I love my all white husband any less.As a matter of fact I would probably give my life for my interracial family. How do you equate patriotism with someone's pastor. My husband doesn't equate my love for him from my pastor!!!
Has anybody noticed that the people who has the most complaints about Obama's pastor are mostly Republicans? Doesn't this remind you of Kerry swiftvote? Dems we're so naive that it worked, & in the end the Gop won.You have to keep focused with your eye on the prize whether it be Obama or Clinton we have to prevent McCain!!! With him at the reigns we're doomed for sure!!!
I am so sad to hear all these misguided souls trying to keep the racist argument alive. Can't you see that Americans are over this and ready to go forward. By MSNBC and FOX playing the clips over and over, it has become ho hum. And now that you are being exposed for not coming forward with the fact that Jeremiah Wright was quoting a former ambassador!! SHAME ON YOU MSNBC!
Jack (Sent Friday, March 21, 2008 2:42 PM)
"Obama is such a liar.

Well thank the gods then that the Dems will not only take back the WH but also pack the Congress this election and we won't have to wory about if the war mongering Neo-Cons support or don't support him.

Time to re-shuffle the whole deck!

This endorsement only proves that Richardson was promised the VP slot on the Obama ticket - nothing else. Obama is a politician and he has not brought any change. The latest attacks on Hillary's character is the latest proof. The Obama campaign is looking more Republican to me than John McCain and that ain't good...
I have to disagree with Jennifer and others who see Obama/Richardson as a winning ticket.

From purely political, electability perspective, they will simply lose too many votes from whites who are not ready to accept such a ticket.

Obama's speech, which I thought was magnificent, and his need to give it in the first place, speaks to this truth.  As Obama said, we should not expect such realities to be supplanted in one election cycle, by one flawed candidacy (his grandma a "typical white person"? Ouch!)

That said, from a personal perspective, I think an Obama/Richardson ticket would be fantastic.  Though I am concerned about Richardson's health given his obvious weight problem and the fact that he often seems out of breath and out-of-focus, he is an immensely qualified and competent running mate who is ready to step into the role of President in an instant.

Richardson's real experience and talents might better be used in, for instance, the Department of State, rather than in a largely symbolic position.

MARIE OF TX:
I HAVE TAKEN TO IGNORING SHE WHO USES CAPS LOCK TO MAKE A POINT RATHER THAN THE FORCE OF HER ARGUMENT.  I ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO SO AS WELL.  I HAVE FOUND THAT THOSE WHO DO SO ARE INVARIABLY EXTREME PARTISANS AND IN ALL REALITY YOUR CAPITALIZATION SERVES AS A CONVENIENT ALERT THAT YOUR COMMENT CAN BE EASILY IGNORED.

Obama/Webb O8
How wonderful.  A joy to watch this endorsement!  I know a lot of you do not agree, but I just watch this man and I know he is the best thing for our future.
