Hagel critical of war, McCain

From NBC's Abigail Williams and Frank Thorp
After telling the American public for the last month that he is stepping out of the mess of political life,  Sen. Chuck Hagel spent the morning telling those left in office how to clean up after he's gone.

Invoking the recent Gallup poll showing that 81% of the American public did not like the direction America was headed, Hagel called for a new consensus within the next administration and emphasized the need for a bi-partisan coalition no matter who takes the White House.

Referring to Sen. John McCain as a "good friend," Hagel continued to criticize the Republican presidential candidate's foreign policy platform, pointing to a financial toll of $12 billion to $15 billion a month for the Iraq war and a high casualty rate.

"We have lost 900 Americans since the surge began," Hagel said. "We are in a mess in Iraq. And the reality is we are going to have to deal with it."

Hagel was blunt but could offer no specifics on the troop levels needed in the present or future. He was however, quick to absolve himself from finding any solution.

"I don't intend to be in the government next year," he said. "I don't anticipate it, and I don't look forward to it."

WASHINGTON, March 23 (UPI) -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said Sunday aides to U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., use "gutter" politics to get their way.

The former candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination was compared by one Clinton adviser to Judas this week following his voiced support of Clinton's rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., The Washington Post reported.

"I'm not going to get in the gutter like that," Richardson said of the comments from informal Clinton adviser James Carville. "And you know, that's typical of many of the people around Senator Clinton. They think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."

I don't blame Senator Hagel for his decision. Since I can't quit being interested in politics I have to go on and try to correct some of the misconceptions of this election time, and the really deep whitewash (pun intended) that Obama is getting from the media. His pastor, Jeremiah Wright, insults the American flag, insults America, Obama will not wear a flag pin (no big deal), but will not hold his hand over his heart to the Pledge of Allegience. His wife is just now proud to be an American. Louis Farrakhan thinks Obama is a great leader and will make a great president, I guess, while he is patrolling the halls of the White House. But what really gets me, with all these frightening aspects of Barack Obama, he not only does not renounce his pastor or Farrakhan but the media can't get over how great his speech was last week, including the part where he threw his white granny under a bus.
Today on Fox News, with host Chris Wallace, governors Ed Rendel of Pennsylvania and Bill Richardson of New Mexico, were discussing Hillary's withdrawal from the presidential race, well, Richardson was insisting, for the good of the American people, and not to widen the fracture that is ripping apart the Democratic Party. Gov. Rendel mentioned that Obama's insistence that the voters wishes be fulfilled some how didn't work out well in Massachusetts which gave the state to Hillary Clinton, but senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy both support Obama. Richardson also just announced his support of Obama, and his state New Mexico went for Hillary, too. So who is kidding who? Why is Obama objecting to the voters decision in Michigan and Florida, two states that gave Hillary a majority. All Obama supporters want Hillary to withdraw immediately, to save the Party. Hear that folks, save the Party. To me, it means saving Obama'a butt because if Michigan and Florida are counted, Hillary wins both the popular vote and the delegates. So Senator Obama's pleas for solidarity and goodness for the country is just a move to make sure he locks up the nomination. The more I see and hear him, the less I like him and trust him. And I did have a problem deciding who I really wanted to support. My heart has always been for Hillary, but I was suckered in just like a lot of people, into thinking how great an African American would be for President. I think a woman President would even be better. What the Obama team has tried to do, even to discredit Bill Clinton, insult their daughter and accuse the Clinton campaign of dirty tricks. They even went so far as to accuse her of peeking into his passport. Not true. Hillary's and McCain's were looked at also, and by nobody from either campaign. In conclusion, Hillary with her knowledge, experience, brilliance and compassion is also tough as nails, and can withstand any crap the Repbulicans will throw at her. Remember, she is used to their tricks, and now is very well prepared to withstand their bricks and bats. Can Obama say the same?
Since there are no other comments appearing, I take it there is time to caching? which means what, and moderation. Or is this one of the blogs that will not accept a comment that is not supportive of Obama?
the best for america would have been Biden vs. Hagel or Biden/Hagel on a ticket.

Voters have a right to know why Hillary Clinton has embellished and, frankly, lied straight to a reporters’ face as well as the American people about being under sniper fire in Tuzla.

If Barack Obama has to explain someone else’s inflammatory comments according to the MSM, then Hillary Clinton should be forced to answer for HER OWN COMMENTS.

This is part of the reason, as a democrat, that I won’t vote for Hillary in the fall. It has nothing to do with her stance on most of the issues. It has everything to do with not finding her trustworthy in any respect. It’s pretty bad when a democrat trusts John McCain MORE, even with all of his faults, over an actual democratic nominee for president.
All of the above will matter as much to McCain as the will of the people matter to Cheney or Bush.

The cost of this war shows why the economy is in the shape it is in and the Republican agenda will never change, they are making too much money from it.  They know that the people will do absolutely nothing to  prevent it.  Actually, Cheney is counting on all of you to make certain nothing changes.

Good luck with that.  Things are going to change.  Things are going to ge much much worse.  You are going to loose your homes, your jobes, your carefully built up portfolios.  And, get this, NO BODY CARES that can actually help you.

Cheney said it so eloquently the other day when told the American People are diabolically opposed to the continued WAR spending and the toll it is taking on the American economy:  "So."

It's easy to lump it on when you have no solutions yourself -- at least that's what the McCain camp will say.

Hagel is right in pointing out the war is unaffordable (it costs the U.S. about $5,000 a second, according to a story in the New York Times). He's also uncomfortable putting forth an answer because there's no good one at this point.

Get out and you leave behind a ticking timebomb that is unlikely to result in the kind of Middle East geopolitical map we Americans would find favorable. Plus, the rest of the world will rightly think it's our fault.

The only Iraq solution is some sort of three-faction partition of Iraq (Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites) that answers to a somewhat weak central government that fairly distributes oil wealth.

Just don't put John McCain in charge of getting us there. He'll Barbara Ann Iran first.

John McCain unendorsed: http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN2749859920080228
This is about as hit-and-run as it gets.
Four Thousend (4000) American lives and one trillion  ($1,000,000,000,000) dollars later I doubt whether Chuck Hagel is the only Republican who has seen the utter foolishness of this war. The one positive was to have Saddam swing from the end of a rope but even that is questionable until that country decides what to do about who shall take his place. That will not happen until they settle how much oil they will give the USA or it's surrogate companies for "liberating" them.
Even though Sen. McCain has won his Primary, it does not mean he should be given a free ride until the General Election. While we are in the midst of a serious economic situation no one presses him on what we should be doing because we just accept that the economy is not where his expertise lies.

His campaign is based on his foreign policy experience and some undefined form of "Stay The Course" in Iraq. For a 100 years if need be? As a former Navy commander and the aspiring Commander in Chief he must be asked to answer clearly and directly a question that's basic to any military leader: What is the definition of "victory" in Iraq?

That objective has been redefined many times since Mission Accomplished. It is only when the answer to that question is set in stone will or nation know exactly what we are fighting for and our troop will know exactly what they have left to do before the can finally come home.
Obama is un-electable! The American people knows that he is a fraud...and we also know that MSNBC supports endorses this wanna be president.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly accessing the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Obama campaign, a source familiar with the firm said Saturday.
I agree with the former president. The Obama campaign constantly drags racial issues and personal attacks into the political dialogue. If Bill Clinton said,"The sky is blue." the Obama people would immediately go on national tv saying,"Look, Bill Clinton is playing the race card again." I for one am really really sick of this. Our country has serious problems and issues they need to discuss besides Obama's bruised ego. If he can't take the heat, get out of Hillary's kitchen, or she just might throw the kitchen sink at him. Grow up Obama! It's called "politics" and that's why you need a candidate who is strong and reliable, like Hillary.
She talks about the issues and tries not to bring race and gender into the contest, but the Obama people keep  trying to twist everything her supporters say into a racist statement when they obviously are not meant that way.

Hey, what do you say o the 4,000 American troops killed in Iraq? Sure, much more died in the Korean and Vietnam wars, but we are actually not in a major war in Iraq with a clear enemy like we were in Korea and Vietnam. Plus we didn't really reconstruct Korea and Vietnam with $12 billion monthly price.
What good does the war do to America and its future? Will America be seen as an imperialist nation bent on "regime change" to line up other nations' values with those of America? And will we be trusted to bring peace to the Middle East?
I heard Hagel was Obamas choice for Defense Secretary??
I actually think that makes sense.

So when does MSNC and others start running Hill's lies??
She was under sniper fire???? LIE!!!
She and Joe Wilson paved the way for an African trip for her husband???? LIE!!!!

She lies like its going out of style. If Obama did that Joe S, Pa B and Tucker would talk about it all week long saying he was just another politcian.
Those 3 need to go over to FOX Noise..
Hegel has been outspoken for quite awhile now.  Sounds like he is going to vote Democratic (Obama) since McCain is more of the same and Clinton is too polarizing.
A very sobering asessment. We should be exceedingly more concerned with the state of our involvment in Iraq, our failing economy, the lack of affordable healthcare, housing foreclosures, and education, rather than the far lesser issues of fearing the unchartered regions where a non-white President moves into The Whitehouse. Barack Obama is proving his extraordinary leadership qualities. We cannot afford to squander this opportunity to be led out of the quagmired state the Bush years have brought us to. Vote for Change.
Pulling for Obama '08
Someone ask Chris Mathews how he can help push a war and then blame it on the Bush and his team and not accept his part in leading us all to war "WE ARE ALL NEO CONS TODAY" much like richardson he will blow with the wind, WEAK AS WATER.Like the rest of you american hating PATRIOTS
That is really too bad;  he was akin to Barack over the issue  of the Iraq war.
Is he like Obama against a war he FUNDS or did he have backbone unlike OBAMa As REV WRIGHT SAYS" GOD DAMM AMERICA">It dosent make you uncomfortable nahh the way you obammawannabes destroy the best demorat you ever had by comparing him to histories worst well I remember another demigod His name was hitler ENJOY THE NATION OF ISLAM AND THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY they will soon be running things.Hate you too.NADER FOR CHANGE.
Sounds kinda like Hagel WANTS to be back in government with all these snippets.

Maybe making a case for VP?
Some pacification from Gen. Betrayous, lying well placed Republican PR machine has  the daily papers and TV stations saying there are vast improvments while 50 to 100 Iraqis are blown up each week or even daily.
Meawile US Tropps and killed or maimed even in the so called safe zone.Ask the widows and parents how they feel.
While a million invaders cross our southern border each years. Cost $5,000 per second.Nice going bushies.
The Bush administration with the support of many in the Congress and Senate got us in this il-advised conflict which has taken away 4000 of our finest. What a waste perpetuated by the fact that Iraq hadn't any WMD as we had been told. Furthermore they hadn't been harboring known terrorists as we had been told. For as bad as Saddam was he had his country and the general vicinity under control. We supported far worse tyrants in our history. When we invaded Iraq and took him out it is no wonder Iran emerged as a force to be reckoned with - minus the fear that Saddam has for the US. It truly angers me at the road we have taken and it is little wonder that most of the world has taken a different anti-US view because of it. This has changed many dynamics and will play out in negative feelings towards us for many generations to come. And to make matters worst - we will - or probably already have spent a trillion of our hard earned tax dollars that will never be re-embursed which could be used to pull out of this sub-prime mess that has contributed to the falling dollar.  It were not for his continued support of Iraq and the promise to keep us there for 100 years McCain I could understand him having supporters.  History will not look favorbly on our nation because of Iraq therefore we need to count our losses and get out ASAP.
McCain might look good in the polls right now, but that is because people are focused on Hillary's desperate attempts to bring down Obama's candidacy.  Once that sorry phase is over, McCain is going to be easy to beat with his promise of four more years of the Bush war and economic policies.

Then there will be the image of Joe Lieberman having to whisper factual corrections into McCain's ear about who's who in Iraq.  Speaking of which, why does McCain need Joe Lieberman, ex-Democrat and ex-VP Democratic Candidate, at his side every step of the way?
I think Hagel added sanity to the republican party at a time when it should have been appreciated .Too bad for the party.
So we lost in Korea,Lebanon,Vietna, Iraq and Afghanopium. Any more efforts on our part to conquer the world in store? Ask McCain,(more of the same) for his plans.$5,000 per second.
The oil,war/drug company military industrialist complex has their candidate for 100 years of bankruptcy and occupation .Notice the green zone was bombed today?Again?
Hagel, R - Neb., said this morning he is not ready to endorse Sen. John McCain, R - Ariz., for president.

"I think endorsements, at least when I endorse someone, or when I work for someone, or commit to someone, I want to be behind that person in every way I can," Hagel said in an exclusive "This Week" interview.

Is the Iraq war winnable?

.
Big John McShame don't care about deficits related to war..remember the neocon mantra

deficits for killing and mayhem...good

deficits for helping Americans...baaaaaaaaaad...unless you are a well heeled contributor
Hagel was blunt but could offer no specifics on the troop levels needed in the present or future. He was however, quick to absolve himself from finding any solution.

Typical Democrat.......

Go back to the farm Chuck....
Time to plant the corn and shovel the cow manure....
You should be an expert when it comes to shoveling it!
At least he says he doesnt know. I think the bi-partisan thing is good. I believe Hillary was working on that aside from the race. Obama hasnt been there long enough cause the little time he has had the job he has been busy with campaign.I think Hillary can bring this bipartisan commettee togeather and it will be very useful and get real results in many factions. Obama has a commettee to be fair but no meetings-campaign you know. The one he laughed at people when they ask if he would jump for.Words I guess.
Hagel's a lot like Bill Richardson. He's never been right even once in his life.
If Hagel thinks he has all the answers, then he should run for President. He'd be the Republican version of Joe Biden --- a lot of hot air and not any real idea about what's going on.
