SEIU to focus on Obama ground game

Posted: Monday, March 24, 2008 2:49 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- SEIU leaders said they are planning on focusing on “member-to-member” contacts throughout Pennsylvania, choosing not to air advertisements for Obama at this time.

“We think in Pennsylvania, the more workers can talk to workers, the more influential we can be,” said Anna Burger, SEIU Secretary-Treasurer, in a conference call with reporters Monday.

There are more than 75,000 SEIU members in the Keystone State, and the union is setting up eight sites across Pennsylvania. The focus has been on registration through Monday, the deadline for residents to register to vote or change their party affiliation. The next step will be educating members.

While SEIU aired ads for Obama, shortly after announcing their national endorsement, before the Ohio primary, they are not planning to go on television or radio in Pennsylvania at this time. “But that could change,” Burger said.

“We think the candidates are spending so much on the air, it's more important for us to be on the door and on the ground,” she said.

After a compressed primary schedule earlier this year, union officials said the extra time has allowed them to ensure their membership rolls are up to date and to better organize themselves in the field, which lessened the need for media buys. Burger said members have been spontaneously reaching out to union officials, interested in the race and getting involved.

When asked if Obama could win the union vote in Pennsylvania, with polls showing Clinton at a 15-point advantage, Burger said she thought “we can narrow the gap.”

I am a retired LCSW . I look forward to the time when Americans will realize that " we " are all in the same 'boat'; going down the 'same' muddy river; using 'broken paddles'... while those at the top of the pyrimid of ' resources' ' posession are boating by us all in fully equiped water vessels  . . saying " well , we distracted them again ; now we can focus our quest for " more power, possessions and etc.  " Fingers fighting against each other, can never form a fist, to fight  effectively for those things needed for survival of the body .
If anyone thinks she will drop if she wins PA and then loses IN and NC you are nuts... When she wins PA she will claim she should be the nominee and will go all the way to the convention.

Operation Chaos is exceeding expectations!
Senator Obama has more ambition and more of a self-serving agenda then Senator Clinton. She has dedicated most of her life to public service and has "paid her dues."  Obama has not and is looking to jump over the "hard work."  This article conveys very clearly a young Illinois Obama who is opportunistic, overly-ambitious, arrogant and a bully.  As a Senator, he hasn't been much different.

Here is another article, that questions any accomplishments that evidence "uniting."

Obama is a fraud, and Pa. will not buy in to his Racist Anti-American bull. Pa. does not drink Obama kool-aid. Empty suit typical black guy, coming from a typical white person, Will never vote for Barrack Hussein Obama. If Obama is the nominee, he will still be the loser. Democrats for McCain and if he is the nominee I can't wait to put that McCain sign in my yard.
Hillary Clinton spent her entire professional career as a corporate lawyer, and spent six years on Wal-Mart's Board of Directors--sitting silently by while Wal-Mart kept unions out of its stores.

Barack Obama, by contrast, spent his entire professional career as a community organizer (helping people like laid-off steelworkers in his neighborhood) and as a public interest lawyer.  And he turned down many much higher-paying jobs to do this for other people.

Democratic voters in Pennsylvania, especially union members, need to realize that Obama is the only one who has truly walked the walk for working people every day of his adult life.
