Bill: Issues not 'ya-ya-ya-ing'

From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
FRANKFORT, Kent. -- Kicking off his first visit to the Bluegrass state, Bill Clinton said the primary contest should focus on issues, not "ya-ya-ing," referring in passing to an Obama supporter's claim that he engaged in McCarthyism last week.

Clinton was talking to the crowd at the Frankfort Convention Center about energy independence, when he stopped mid-thought.

"This is really what this election oughta be about, these kind of things, not a lot of this ya-ya-ing I hear about all the time," he said.

That line drew some applause, prompting the former president to reflect a moment. He then decided then to share one of his "Clinton's law of politics." "The level of sanctimony in the rhetoric is inversely related to the public benefit of the policy," he said, chuckling before adding: "I need to quit this. Somebody will probably figure out how to ... accuse me of being Joe McCarthy again on that."

VIDEO: Bill Clinton jokes about a comparison of him to Joe McCarthy, made by an Obama supporter over the weekend.

It was a passing reference, really. He then continued on to describe how cars could run on lithium batteries to get 100 miles per gallon. But it was the first public acknowledgement of the flap over his remarks in North Carolina last week that some viewed as an unspoken swipe at Obama's patriotism.

The speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives, Jody Richards, introduced Clinton. The former president thanked the more than 2,000 on hand, which included students from the area and state employees, for supporting him in the 1992 and 1996 contests.

"We're not done yet; you bet we're not," he said, in response to a comment from the crowd that the race was not over.

*** UPDATE *** NBC's Ben Weltman adds this interesting Bill Clinton nugget on Iraq: "Because of they think we are going to stay 100 years, they'll never make these hard decisions. Ninety nine years from now our great great grandkids will be talking about 'Oh I wish they had figured out how to split that oil money.' Do you make hard decisions before you have to? No.

"Think about your nextdoor neighbors. Your nextdoor neighbors house burned down. And your nextdoor neighbor had no place to go. Virtually 100 percent of the people here would take you in. You know you would. And if you had no guest bedroom it would make a flip to you, they could sleep on the couch. You would let them do it. Thirty days. You'd let them stay. Most of you would let them stay 60 days. Because that is who we are. But let me ask you something. If your neighbor is still on your couch after five years,[laughter from crowd] what do you know? What do you know? It is not about the fire anymore. It's about not having to get off the couch, that's where we are in Iraq. It is not about the fire anymore. And we have to get off the couch."

Keep shooting from the lip, Bill!  I was once one of your greatest admirers, but Bill, I hardly knew ye!
Hillary is PATHETIC! What a freak show the Clintons are.

NAFTA
Bosnia
Ireland

ALL LIES! What the HELL has Hillary done to win the 'experience' award? Being married to Bill doesn't make her experience, it makes her stupid. She’s so comfortable lying for personal gains she’ll lie RIGHT to the face of the Women of America then expect some grand prize. I say award her NOTHING!

Our country is in need of a leader, not a LIAR.  She got a whole camp of LIARS. They can’t even identify their own lies.

And where the Hell are those Tax Returns Hillary?
'..."I need to quit this. Somebody will probably figure out how to ... accuse me of being Joe McCarthy again on that."...'

No !
I'd accuse you of being a sexual predator
A sexual predator who assaulted Juanita Broddrick and Kathleen Willey

You got away with both, didn't you ?
It's like an episode of CSI or Law and Order

A powerful politician who gets away with rape
Enabled by his wife !!
There's a soap opera for ya !!

This story has a happy ending......

Obama '08
Character counts
Integrity counts
Honesty counts
You know, I really think he may get some mileage (in terms of applause) cause I guess these remarks can be crowd pleasers (in terms of being light-hearted and funny) when you see them in real life.

But in this day and age when we read them in print or see them on tv, he just looks extraordinarily disengenuous, out-of-touch, mean-spirited, and petty.  In other words, not very Presidential.

Keep talking Bill, cause you are very good for my candidate...Senator Barack Obama.

Does the Clinton campaign SERIOUSLY think its good to have him out there...are they doubling down or something.  He is not only not good for Hill, but he's sullying his legacy too.

Very sad.

Obama for President 08
This is disgusting..out of thier own selfishness, the Clintons just insist on doing irreversible damage to their party and to the country ...again...

I voted for both Clintons twice. I will never vote for another Clinton as long as I live - that's a promise.

Obama '08
Lithium batteries???  Sorry folks, the energy crisis is very real, but most of the nostrums we hear from polititicans are so pie-in-the-sky that it just drains their credibility to the dregs.

As it turns out, Gore was right not to have Bill Clinton campaign for him in '00 - if we could have only gotten him to campaign for Ralph Nader, the country could have avoided the Bush meltdown.

Please, please, Nancy, Al, Jimmy, endorse Obama now so we can send this clown and his abrasive wife back to the 90s, where they belong.
Good for you Bill. You go man and we appreciate your support for Hillary. The time for this cannt say anything is over. These other people can say anything they want so to heck with it.If Obama want to really devide us bring it on. I am tired of political politness where we get creamed and out of respect dont ans. Proud of Jody Richards for her support. Hope Kentucky brings Hillary a great win. We need the popular votes too.
What Bill doesn't mention is the Ya-Yaing is coming from Hillary's camp. Hillary has run a dirty campaign using race and religion while expecting she and Bill can use any language and make any claim they desire and not be called on it.  It is time for the news media to start calling this campaign on it's insinuations and outright lies. Bill and Hillary knew Pastor Wright and invited him to the White House when Bill was in trouble, if we dig deep enough, Hillary's campaign is probably at the bottom of this nasty religion business.  More Ya-Yaing on Hillary's part.
Chuck!

For God's sake, let's do some FAIR reporting here!

"...all this other stuff..." and "...ya-ya-yaing..."
is COMING OUT OF BILL CLINTON'S MOUTH!

It's so clear even Ray Charles could see that!

How can you let Bill Clinton get away with sniping at
Obama (REAL sniper attacks, not the made-up ones from
his wife!)?

Everything Obama is doing is just RESPONDING to these
nasty attacks from The Clintons!  He's NOT initiating
them!  When somebody's shooting at you, you've GOT to
shoot back!

Little fair reporting here, okay?
look it up Karen more to Hillary than Farrakhan,Ayers,Wright,New Pastor lies about NAFTA,Iraq-advisors let go.
Obama is a pathetic lier and obomination. He is a racist devider with a racist wife (where are her papers from Prinston) and a racist pastor and a black muslim leader as friend that thinks he si th enew messiah
Yep Bill, it ain't over until McCain is in the White House and Hill starts gearing up for '12.
You people should be ashamed. Go back to New York.

Obama '08
What a shame that Bill has gone from being a highly regarded figure in the Democratic party to one that is working to destroy it. He and Hillary are demonstrating that they would say and do anything to win. They have even lost the respect of those of us who voted for Bill Clinton and defended him when he most needed us.
Ridiculous. Pathetic. Desperate.

I'm done with the Clintons - and if Hillary thinks that she is going to hurt Obama enough to ensure that he loses the election so that she can run again in 2012 - She will not have my support then either -

Never again will I defend these people. I will Never support this woman for anything, not even dog catcher.

Hillary and Bill Clinton embody everything that is wrong with this country and politics today.

Please PA - Vote for Obama and end this fiasco.
He could have used the opportunity to praise Obama for his patriotism. He could have emphasized how the Democrats will be better than the Republicans for the country. Disappointing again.
Bill says 'they won't quit'. Hillary will keep dragging this campaign into the dirt until she kills the Democratic Party and puts John McCain in the White House. Hillary has gone after Senator Obama, our best chance to win the Election, using race, religion and in her words 'the kitchen sink'. I am 61 years old and cannot remember an election where a candidate put forth such a dirty campaign against one of their own Party.  Especially when it is the candidate most likely to run against the Republicans. I don't understand why the DNC is allowing Hillary to continue this nasty campaign.
GET USED TO SAYING PRESIDENT CLINTON.

The Obama family will be traveling to Iran with Farrakhan & wright.
Bill Clinton – thanks for the 22 million jobs created during your administration, the best economy in my lifetime, the respect we had around the world, the budget surplus and the greatest first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt.

Well, we try to make it about issues, you know, Clinton lying about her foreign policy experience while being first lady, and the Clintons accuse the Obama campaign of not focusing on the issues.  That seems like it's spot on the issues, spot on whether or not Hillary Clinton has the experience she claims she has.  We already know her judgment is lacking (she voted for Iraq, refuses to acknowledge mistake, keeps playing a troop-withdrawal shell game, doesn't want to talk to foreign leaders she doesn't like), but do ANY of her claims match up?  Doesn't look like it to me...

She failed on the ONE major policy initiative she ever worked on: health care.

NO ONE can point to a single major policy initiative she helped pass in Congress.

She's lied about the extent of her foreign policy experience.  She lied about NAFTA.  She lied about her involvement with SCHIPS.

Those all sounds like "issues" to me, but I dunno... I mean, they're no Judas-comparison or anything, but they're all directly related to policy issues...
This is fun watching the Clintons implode while Obama sits casually on the beach catching some rays.
And it continues.....

perseverence is great quality but at this point she seems to know that she will loose the nomincation and her only intent is to ensure that the democrats loose in November (by lengthening the current race).

Getting Mcain elected she believes will position her for a campaign run in 2012. Interestingly if she was such an inevitable candidate and lost 2008 how can she believe she will be viable in 2012.

At this point she will go through to the end and be the democrat that destroys the democratic party for next 20 years. For me...someone who loved the clintons this is just unfortunate... and I cant get my mind around the cynical and selfish nature of their plans.

A fellow blogger was right-Sen. Obama should just
stay in the VI for another week. Like the police interrogator lesson-be silent, say absolutely nothing
and the perp will just have to fill the air and that's when all the good stuff comes out. Keep ya-ya'ing Bill.
You're entertaining all of us. I can hear the super-del. votes adding up for Sen. Obama.
Bill,
The unfortunate thing here is that Hillary really is the 5% chance now.
This next 10 will be make or break for you and your post administration legacy.
Please choose wisely, for once.
Everything Bill says is 100% right!
It's becoming sadly obvious to me that there is no
longer a Democratic Party, it's become a Clintoncrat
Party.

Can you imagine how Harry Truman would have handled
this...?

"With all due respect, Ma'am, but you're a goddamned
liar!"

Hillary and her fake supporters are PATHETIC!

How strange is it to see Hillary and her gang of LIARS jump on a conference call trying to move the bar as if they are in charge. We are LAUGHING at their desperation.  The more lying and dirt they do the more the American people are looking at both HILLARY and BILL and deciding not just on this election but their political future. HILARY AND BILL ARE DESTROYING THEIR CHANCES AT ANY FUTURE POLITCAL OFFICE AND THAT’S HOW I LIKE IT SO KEEP IT UP!

FAT BOY PENN AND TEAM ARE desperately trying to cover their Lying candidate's big fat tail. Hillary is failing and will continue. She needs to exit NOW! She CAN'T WIN and the super delegates will NOT give her anything. She hasn't earned anything but a free trip to McDonalds.

NAFTA
Bosnia
Ireland

and the freak show continues....

Let's Roll !!!
"Now one of Clinton's laws of politics is this. If one candidate's tryin' to scare ya', and the other one is tryin' to get ya' to think. If one candidate is appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.

That's the best."

-----------------

OBAMA '08 - Yes WE Can!!
I would think that it might be helpful, if you wish to be taken seriously, to LEARN HOW TO SPELL!
Who is going to tell Bill that it's over and end this mess of a campaign.  Richardson started the ball rolling and Harry Reid claims that something is being done about it but when?  http://www.lvrj.com/news/16948521.html
We know you're not done Bill. You people have no quit in you when it comes to power-mongering. The people have your number. It's going to take a Shining Knight of a silver bullet to put you down. Here it comes. It's the 'Yes We Can' troops headed by our chosen candidate; Senator Barack Obama.

Thrash around all you like. You're beaten. You beat yourselves.

Pulling for Obama '08
The Clintons have really put the fear into the elders. I guess everyone over 60 years old is going to vote for the Clintons.
The Clintons have really put the fear into the elders. I guess everyone over 60 years old is going to vote for the Clintons.
I think the Clinton's need to look in the mirror before they accuse people of doing things that they have done for the past 20 years.

Pathetic.
Is there anybody who doesn't see through Bill's lame act?  No wonder his negatives are rising.  Many Dems are having a very hard time remembering what it was they ever liked about him in the first place, other than the fact that he was a Dem after 12 years of Reagan/Bush.

Yeah, there was the great economy but we might still have that if it weren't for his losing congress over and over and being such a blatant moron where his zipper was concerned (couldn't he have had his affairs with classy discreet women?)  that he personally made it possible for Gore to "lose"(only win by a small margin, allowing the Supreme Court coup) and here we all are.  Nearly eight years that never had to happen and now he wants to be sure and screw it up for us again since  the wife can't get the nomination this time.  Go back to being a fairly respected x-Pres, Bill.  You've lost it.
Sierra. SF-Your right, it is like the shows you mentioned pure fiction. I wouldent call you a McCarthyite. Your more like a Ken Starr.
The only thing the Clinton campaign is fighting for now is additional funds they can use to protect themselves and their friends, like Rendell from accusations and trials like the Peter Paul mess in California.
Sozzi -

There are a bunch of us over 60 Democrat people here in Illinois that aren't going to vote for the Clintons. We may be a little old, but we're not dead or stupid. Rezco is our governor's problem, not Obama's. And, the last I looked, Obama isn't included in the Paul versus Clinton lawsuit.
Bill, you are lucky Barack accused you of be Joe Mc Carthy and not calling you the Prince of Darkness.

Hillary is acting like someone stole her dolly. She thought she would be the presumptive nominee and then failed to heed the first rule of competition, "Never underestimate your opponent." She did and now she is payng the price. How many more times is Hillary going to try and change the rules until she wins. She is a loser in more way than one.
When you get emails from the dem party asking for donations.. do like I did tell them no money until they tell Clinton to go take a hike.
Would Hillary still be in the race if her last name wasn't Clinton?
How can a gutless COWARD make remarks as to who is loyal and who not loyal to this country!!!!  He never served this country, ever heard the sounds of a battle field, never held the dying, Never defended nothing but his immoral shame!!  Hrc,is just like him,, now shes a real combat hero,  Damn L M A O!!!! What a sick Washington Professional LIAR!!
We need a President who likes America and the white people who live in it, not someone who hangs out with people who hate America and resent whites
