Bill: 'Saddle up'

Posted: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 1:28 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
PARKERSBURG, W.V. -- Bill Clinton kicked off a day of campaigning here by making a personal appeal to voters, saying Hillary's success depends on "real" people like those who came to see him. And as the rhetoric heats up between the Democratic campaigns, Bill Clinton offered this message: "Saddle up."

"If a politician doesn't wanna get beat up, he shouldn't run for office," he said. "If a politician doesn't wanna get beat up, he shouldn't run for office. If a football player doesn't want to get tackled or want the risk of an a occasional clip he shouldn't put the pads on."

Clinton then alluded to the resignations and calls for resignations that have been traded back and forth between the campaigns.

"I don't think any of these people oughta be asked to resign," he said. "All these guys that say bad things about any other campaign, they say, 'Should they resign?' My answer is no; they're repeating party line. They oughta stay right where they are. Let's just saddle up and have an argument. What's the matter with that? That's what America's about, right?"

And while some are "moaning and groaning," he said there are larger issues to gripe about. "None of these politicians are gonna have anything like the tough time half the people in this audience have already had for the last seven years," he said to applause. "This is about you. Don't you let anybody take this election away from you."

This is Clinton's first appearance in West Virginia ahead of the state's May 13 primary. The former president thanked the crowd of about 500 for the state supporting him in his presidential campaigns, and said it's time for the state to return to the Democratic column in November.

"In spite of the best efforts of a lot of the elites in the media and other places it looks like we are gonna have an opportunity for everybody to vote in this primary, and I think your vote should be counted, don't you?" he asked. "I know Hillary's gaining on them when they say, 'Oh, let's shut this down now; we don't want to be divided.

Let's just disenfranchise several of the million people who could vote. Wouldn't you like to vote and have your votes counted? Wouldn't you like to have a voice in this election? Don't you think that your vote should count as much as the people who voted in Iowa first? Yeah, well so does Hillary."

He also said that West Virginia is a "special place," and said it has the kind of profile that bodes well for his wife.

"If it weren't for people like you, she wouldn't be in this race," he said.

We need to continue to ask what exactly did Hillary Clinton do in the White House?  "Experience" is the cornerstone of her campaign, and that got shot to smitherines with her lie about Bosnia (that was told at least a half dozen times over the course of a year).  Bill Clinton has become a cartoon character.  Both the Clintons (and even their daughter) feel entitled to the nomination, and now seem visibly angry much as a spoiled rich kid gets angry when it doesnt get exactly what they want.  I'm a life-long democrat, but I simply will not vote for Hillary if she steals the nomination.  Most Obama supporters feel the same way.
Dear Clinton supporters, I posit a question:  Would you all be reacting with such glee if Obama or an important surrogate like T. Kennedy said, "If a politician doesn't want to get beat-up, SHE shouldn't run for public office!"  Or maybe, "and while some may be P.M.S.-ing..."  This is completely unacceptable!  Are those two Democrats at all?  I now turn my back on the Clintons.  They are beneath contempt.  Live in the now, for crying out loud.
Sad that he plays this dirty tatic.  Guess now Obama is disenfranchsing the people.  It sounds like a repeat of MI/FL voters being disenfranchised.  It's no way to campaign from a president.  This is just a sampling of how the future would look.  Sickening
No Bill we dont need our politicians beaten up. We want to find out who's best to lead the country not the most crass (I said he's Judas. I'm trying to brand him like a cattle...). Now comments like "he's not passend the commander in chief threshold" is acceptable and civil even if not true.

Yes its gone both ways sometimes but at least Obama consistently criticises this when it's on his own side.

Being beat up is having your baby making juice turned up in public in an inquiry and I was one against all that personal bating up. How ironic that a recipient of such attacks now advices it.

Is Bill giving the same advice to his daughter?  If she doesn't want to risk tough questions (or in her case just ones she chooses not answer), then she shouldn't be on the campaign trail.
Bill Clinton makes snakeoil salesmen look good by comparison.  He's saying: 1)we're going to get nastier-if you don't like it; you drop out.  2) Hillary should have dropped out by now-but she's not going to.  3)  You can help us keep this farce going-we deserve it; we're The Clintons.  4)Help us destroy the democratic party; it'll be fun--come on you know you want to--besides we'll put it back together in time for Hillary to be coronated-I mean, nominated in 2012. 5)  And remember, if you vote for Hillary that means you get to be a state that matters!!!! Don't you want to be one of the big important states?!?  and finally--6)And remember, this is about YOU.  Hillary and I are just doing all of this for YOU--our royal subjects...I mean...it's about you...trust me...
This is just saying that it will be Clintonesque "politics as usual."  And this is what I predict if the democrats for Hillary let this continue:
Obama still wins the nomination.  The divisive infighting leads to the election of McCain and then Hillary supporters will say, "See, I told you."  Thing is, if it doesn't stop soon, it will be McCain even if the super delegates overrides the will of the people and nominates Hilary.  The difference is, it is Hillary's intent to destroy Obama at any cost to the political party.  It has never been about "you" for the Clinton's.  It has always and forever been about them.

Oh and Chelsea?  Your Father's actions while in the White House ARE our business because that is our house, not the Bush's and not the Clinton's.  You have every right to not answer, but when it comes to the character and reputations of those in politics, it is most definitely our business.
The Party will not be torn apart.
Come on, grow up. If Obama wins, this country will be in big trouble. Before you start I am not a racist, never have been and never will be. I think he is a very smart man but I don't think he will be elected President. I actually think McCain will win the election and I am a Democrat.
I guess that means he'll be okay if someone else asks Chelsea how she felt when she found out Bill was cheating on his family with......(where's my list)?
The Audacity of Dirt:

Hilary Clinton and her campaign clearly made it a point to plant a friendly question from a Clinton Friendly Reporter during her press conference in Pittsburgh the other day that would divert attention from the obvious fact that she was caught lying to potential voters on more than one occasion.  The question regarding Rev. Wright was designed to spin the negative attention Hilary was getting back towards Barak Obama.

When asked by the reporter how she would have responded if Rev. Wright was her Pastor she said “He would no longer have been my Pastor.”  You know you don’t choose your family but you can choose your Pastor.”

Having heard that statement from Mrs. Clinton I then began to wonder.  Why would she even comment on this matter when Barak Obama clearly repudiated the outrageous remarks that Rev. Wright had made and then said these were not his views and he had a profound love for America?  I also began to wonder why Mrs. Clinton chose to stay married to a convicted Perjurer, a husband who totally disrespected his marriage vows, a husband who has been caught lying to her and the Grand Jury too many times and a husband who has allegedly been accused of and proven to have harassed several if not many woman.  If Mrs. Clinton wants to play the Good Judgment Card she needs to stop being a complete lying hypocrite.
looks like bill thinks a fist fight would be the best way to settle the nomination, interesting stuff from a lying coward, I believe what he meant was he and the hillary are going to resort to their jumbo size bag of dirty tricks, one thing the clintons have never been accused of is being honest
God bless Hillary Clinton.  She has all of our support here in Oregon.  She is the only hope we have at getting out of this mess the last administration put this country in.  The big money boys have gouged every last penny out of this nation to fill their own pockets.  They have ruind the economy and could not care less.  They get these mega buck salaries do not have to rely on social security when they retire.  Wake up Americans!! Can't you see, (or feel) what's happening to you?  I am sure some of you have felt this before so you know!  Most of the people voting today never saw gasoline at the pumps under a $1.00 well it should still be!  We have Trillions of barrels of oil shale in Utah and Colorado. I know as I along with a lot of others were laid off from Northern Geophysical because as the ceo from Englewood Colorado told us "Why would we continue to search for something we are drowning in?"  Wake up boys and girls you are getting @#%+*@ you have a chance to stop this maybe evan turn it around. Use your right to vote where it will work for you not against you!  The giant money machine will push this young man around like a pawn on a chess board!  Big money wants you to vote for him.  If you have millions of dollars you will want him in office if you don't, watch what you are doing.  Brian.
Obama is not going to beat McCain. 28% Clinton supporters will not vote or vote for McCain. Sorry Obama cult members. You need the Clintons.
Hill and Bill...

When you say a politican should expect to get 'beat up', you're not recognizing that AT THIS POINT, you're beating up the PARTY.

Not only that, you're admitting you're moving
from a "KITCHEN SINK strategy"
to a ***BEAT HIM TO A PULP strategy***.
If Obama and the democratic party are so fragile they deserve to be destroyed.
The Hillary supporters who continue to bring up Rev. Wright and call him "anti-American" amaze me. Apparently you aren't paying attention to the facts. If you actually LISTEN to the sermon that caused most of the uproar and not just the little snippets that the news channels were running constantly, you would realize that he was actually quoting Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force, who was speaking on FOX News.

Please people, don't just blindly follow what is shown on the news clips. Do some research on your own. Don't bash someone when you don't even have your facts straight.
Come on Bill, since when has Hillary been OK with being 'beat up'. She has thrown the 'kitchen sink' at Senator Omaba while she whines 'negative campaigning'or media bias when asked valid questions about her experience or the release of her 2006 tax return.
I live in Oregon . I want to vote for Hillary....I will write her in if she isnt on the ballot. I do NOT support Obama and never will.. Thanks to all you Americans who think it is over when we havent had a say yet....what country do you live in? Mine lets me vote. Go Hillary!
Haven't we had enough of Bush & Clinton? And now Clinton an extention of Bush again ?? The Clinton's have been so disappointing..What are there no morals? When does the lying stop? First Bill - now Hillary and Chelsea?  She knew that she had not been shot out or mom... c'mon!! All politicians don't have to lie ... JUST STOP IT  !!
So, not only are there "real states" there are now "real citizens".
No wonder this guy received only 43% of the vote in 1992 and helped his party loose seats in the house & senate every election between 1992-2000 with the exception of a senate break even in 1998.
Now we understand why so many down ticket democrats is the south, mid west and mountain west are scared to death of a protracted nomination battle as well as a Clinton at the top of the ticket in November.
Hillary the better general election candidate?
Not hardly.
A MAN WHO SPIT ON HIS MARRIAGE VOWS, WHO USED THE WHITEHOUSE FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL STRIP CLUB, A MAN WHO LIED ABOUT WHAT HE DID, NOW IS A POLITICAL SCHOLAR WITH WISDOM - ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO BILL CLINTON HAS TO BE THE DUMB AMERICANS THE POLLS KEEP SAYING SUPPORT HIS WIFE - THE NON EDUCATED RED NECKS.
I'd rather be thought of as a wuss by trailer-park trash named Bubba who has his worship services at Hooters than be a screaming, skanky, shrew who is in the house while my white-trash husband "is not having sexual relations with that woman".  GO TO H*** CLINTONS.  I'M SO SICK OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Real people....those people....rich people....people like you....." that is why I don't like Bill Clinton. This guy is all about division and splitting. There isn't a chance upon a star Hillary can get elected anything if he keeps this up. People don't dislike Hillary, they dislike him!

If people don't want to get beat up, what a joke! He wasn't saying that when the Repubs. were going after him full steam. Back then it was a vast right wing conspiracy, now it's just politics! What a joke. I can't stand this guy.
I am absolutely convinced now that it's BILL Clinton running for office.  Why the hell else would we have to keep reading about what Bill said on the campaign trail??   Bill said this... Bill said that...  Bill Clinton said this about that.  Bill Clinton illudes to this... or that.  I DO NOT CARE WHAT BILL CLINTON HAS TO SAY ABOUT ANYTHING.   And that does not depend on what the meaning of the word is is.

Get off the damn Bill Clinton stories already.
I am a democrate and want to have a democrate president in the white house.  It seems that some of the leaders in the democratic party does not want to have a president in the white house in November.  Why/ because the are tearing the party apart by favoring A or B.  If A had wont's Florida, they will count the vote.  Since B won't it, it seems that party leaders are not enthus to hear Florida's voice.
Last week, Dean Snyder, the senior minister at the Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington D.C. -- which the Clintons famously attended while in the White House -- released a little noticed statement offering a sympathetic defense of the totality of Wright's work.

"The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader whom I have heard speak a number of times," Snyder wrote. "He has served for decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society. To evaluate his dynamic ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the African-American church which has been the spiritual refuge of a people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear. Those of us who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr. Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize."

Step back from the blunt, Bill.  Step back.  You must be inhaling now.  Anyways, that's why I would never vote for Hillary.  I am 52 years old and believe me, I am one tough Chicago broad who could on any given day kick her ass.  So why, in God's name would I want a commander-in-chief that I could beat up?
Ewww.  To read the words "Bill Clinton" and "saddle up" in the same sentence makes my lunch come back.   I'm tired of my party and I'm tired of the Clintons.
So I see the Obama supporters here have taken a page from the Limbaugh/McCain playbook and are now attacking Chelsea.  Real classy.
