Clinton: Going to Carolina...

Posted: Thursday, March 27, 2008 9:39 AM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under: ,

Clinton makes her first stop in NC today, a state that is becoming more and more of a must-win if she is to complete a comeback. NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones reports she will announce a new proposal to support job training, during a stop at a technical college in Raleigh, NC Thursday morning. The new plan would cost $12.5 billion over five years. The stop will be the first of a six-day tour through North Carolina, Indiana and Pennsylvania, where she'll focus on the economy, according to a briefing by her campaign staff.

The idea is to demonstrate Clinton's ability to be a steward of the economy and she will be highlighting state and local initiatives that she believes are working. The focus on job training and re-training, is something North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley has also pushed and Clinton argues the federal government should partner with state and local governments on these kinds of initiatives.

The plan would make job training available to displaced workers, provide new Pell grants for displaced workers who enroll in training and education programs to upgrade skills and support new on-the-job training programs. Her campaign said to expect more language today about John McCain and the economy.

Aides see North Carolina as an "uphill battle" but say it's also a place where they see opportunities.

"A group of prominent Hillary Clinton donors sent a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday asking her to retract her comments on superdelegates and stay out of the Democratic fight over their role in the presidential race. The 20 prominent Clinton supporters told Pelosi she should "clarify" recent statements to make it clear superdelegates -- nearly 800 party insiders and elected officials who are free to back any candidate -- could support the candidate they think would be the best nominee."

More: "Among the signees of the letter were prominent Democrats and Clinton supporters like Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television; Bernard Schwartz, former chairman of Loral Space and Communications; and venture capitalist Steven Rattner. The signees reminded the House leader from California of their support for the party's House campaign committee and said ‘therefore’ she should ‘reflect in your comments a more open view’ about superdelegates.”

The Washington Post: "Pelosi has not endorsed either candidate. Brendan Daly, her spokesman, said that the speaker recognizes that superdelegates will choose between the candidates but that she ‘believes it would do great harm to the Democratic Party if superdelegates are perceived to overturn the will of the voters. This has been her position throughout this primary season, regardless of who was ahead at any particular point in delegates or votes.’ Obama spokesman Bill Burton in an e-mail criticized what he saw as an implied threat by the group to withhold funds from Democratic Party campaign committees."

The Clinton camp says it raised $500,000 on Wednesday, through three events -- one in New York, two in Washington, NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones reports. Spokesman Mo Elleithee said there were some 2,500 people at the evening event at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall in Washington. Ticket prices started at $25. The half a million figure does not include online contributions, which aren't counted until the end of the day.

NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli reports that hours after Bill Clinton said surrogates should not resign simply for attacking the opposing campaign, a local official who has endorsed Hillary Clinton singled out the Jeremiah Wright controversy during his introduction of the former president.

“I am not Jeremiah Wright, but I am an ordained minister and a pastor,” said Damron Bradshaw, mayor of the small town of Chesapeake. “What I have to say instead of what he said is God bless America!”

After taking the stage moments later, Clinton simply thanked Bradshaw for his introduction without noting the comment. Instead, the former president focused his remarks on issues of particular interest to seniors. “West Virginia has one of the older populations in America, but the fastest growing group of Americans are people over 65,” he said at Chesapeake’s senior center. “We know that presents a significant challenge for us.”

HRC did an interview with the Wall Street Journal yesterday. The WSJ lead from that interview: "Hillary Clinton said she fears the U.S. is slipping into a Japanese-style economic malaise that will overwhelm the Federal Reserve's considerable powers. The Democratic presidential candidate said the U.S. government should be ready to buy troubled mortgages from investors and lenders to spur a recovery and avoid a lengthy period of stagnation because of unaddressed weaknesses in the financial sector."

THese big shot Clinton donors are not as important as they used to be.  Obama's abilty to attract young voters, Republican voters, and SMALL DONATION voters have rendered them passe'.  OBAMA 08
Useless Pelosi better keep her mouth shut. She has made stupid horredous decisions so far and crawling ten miles up Obamas butt is only splitting the dem party further, and yet another wrong decision. No surprise there.
The Clintons talk about the economy for the working folks while they depend on their big money supporters (who will demand something if the Clintons regrab power) to strong arm Dem leaders like Pelosi.

Sad and sick.  Stop voting against your own interests America.  This power couple is after power period.  They will sell you down the river just like they did before.

Vote hope, not fear.
Voters should write letters and emails similar in tone asking the signees of that letter to clarify their comments, you know, as supporters of their various companies and ventures.

These 20 people are disgusting writing vailed threatening letters to have personal influence over an election.

especially when a representative is saying the superdelegates should reflect the votes of the states.

This is what we need to change...for all her speeches about corporate lobbyists...

do you all know who Chris Korge IS?

Yes he is one of the 20 names on that list...take a look at what he is called...yes another step above Norman Hsu.

disgusting.
Let's see what was that "Big State" arguement again:

New PPIC poll in California:

Obama 49 - McCain 40
Clinton 46 - McCain 43

Favorable/unfavorable ratings:
Obama 61-34 (+27)
McCain 49-45 (+4)
Clinton 45-52 (-7)

NO One anywhere seems to like that woman.

hey Chuck didn't Obama pick up a SD yesterday from IL?
Also, how dare those big-buck Clinton supporters trying to threaten House Speaker Pelosi and steal the nomination.  Just goes to show you how people with "money" hold Americans hostage if things don't go their way.  They are WAAY out of line here.  Again, Clinton is ALWAYS in the pockets of lobbyists and/or others who want to silence the people and control this nation.
Pelosi needs to tell the the prominent Hillary donors to go screw themselves. They as a small group "will not tell" the American people how to vote or how to elect a nominee whether that person is Obama or Hillary.

It is time for a CHANGE. Whether you support Obama or you support Hillary it is time that we change this idea that a handful of wealthy persons in this country tell us the Amercian people how to nominate and elect a President!!!!! They need to take their big bucks and shove them up their a--.
Imagine.

Imagine a Hillary Clinton elated by the election of Barack Obama as president, a president who heals the very problems she has long talked about, who heals the multiple dimensions of America's economic crisis and finally brings an end to the tragic war in Iraq.

Did such a person ever exist? Was she just a figment of our naive but hopeful imagination? Did she die in January? Is there yet another possibility?

Imagine.
Here is my response.  If Hillary Clinton gets the nomination the I will NEVER donate another cent to the DCCC or its senate counterpart.  I will NEVER donate another cent to the DNC and I will not only vote for McCain but I will vote Republican for every single race down the ballot (all the way down to County Council).  That is an absolute fact.  If Hillary Clinton steals the nomination there is absolutely no way at all that I will vote for a Democrat for any race in November.
The Clinton campaign and its wealthy supporters need to stop their slash and burn tactics in trying to get her the nomination.  Whether or not they want to see it, the writing is on the wall.  NO YOU CANNOT HAVE IT.  IT IS NOT YOURS FOR THE MONEY OR THE TAKING.

Go away Hillary before you ruin the country!!
Are these the same big donors who can't keep up with the Clinton campaign's runaway spending? They ought to focus their criticisms where they are due - on the candidate they support, who has built an organization that has only proved to be a fiscal and strategic disaster.

We do need a president who is ready on day one; not a president who a year in tries to spin her way toward new goalpost locations in an attempt to show how her disorganization and inneptitude really wasn't so bad.
i was hopeing she would win but after this threating people and the lies  she has become part of i dont know anymore and obama he has been caught in lies and want denounce or leave that church after all we have found out about it being anti american i just dont know about him becomeing president either and then mccaine i have never been for a rep and i do think he is to old and forgetful to run this country so were dose that leave of us  who think this and what should we do when nither canadate is no better then the other
Clinton thinks the government should buy-off bad subprime loans? Um, buying those loans in huge bundles is part of what's caused this mess and required bailouts. I'm all for easing the pain of borrowers who were trapped by malicious lenders, but putting the government into a proven-to-be disastrous area of speculation seems guaranteed to end in disaster.
Oh, and another thing: for disenchanted Democrats who refuse to vote for the other side should their candidate not receive the nomination, there are options other than voting for McCain. If I'm not mistaken, Nader will be on the ballot (that might bring back bad memories, but if you're crossing over to send a message to the Dems anyway, why not send THAT message?), and there's always Ron Paul. He's not going anywhere.
I hate to say it, but I'm starting to regard her as a has-been.  I'm just not interested in anything she has to say anymore.  She has entirely turned me off.

I mean no disrespect to the people who have yet to vote...I realize they are still paying attention and they will still go to the polls.  But I voted on Feb. 5th and people here seem to have already made up their minds (and actually CT is referenced in First Read today).  So, for now, I'm moving on from Clinton...I feel secure in my choice.

Woman for Obama 08
So we have big money trying to influence our political process.  Is Hillary Clinton a closet Republican?

Heaven help us if she becomes president.  We'll see K-Street lobbyists dictating laws all over again.
Remember when Howard Dean's battle cry was "We can take back our country."? Perhaps it should have been "We can take back our party, and THEN we will take back our country."

I think the Pelosi letter may be the final straw.  If rank and file Democrats refuse to honor the wishes of "major donors" and instead, give their small checks and donations to support the DCCC, we will have witnessed the first REAL change in party politics in this country in a long time. The PEOPLE, as opposed to the special interests and lobbyists will be running things.  Now wouldn't THAT be something!!

Here's a thought.
If Hillary steals the nomination, will she feel all the voters who voted for Obama to give him the majority of the delegates will be "disenfranchised" because their votes didn't count? Just wondering how far her "thinking" goes. (Not very, I'm sure)
This is just another reason that we the people need to take a stance againest this kind of double talk.Hillary say's that goverment should bail out the big banks that made these bad loans. She calls them investers.I for one can not afford to keep bailing out investment firms,banks.ect.This is more biz as usual. Now the Hillbillys supporters are threating D.N.C.officals,or they will cut the contributions. This is the b.s. we are all getting really sick of.We will not bullied.  OBAMA  08
TYPICAL OF HILLARY SUPPORTERS -- GUTTER FIGHTERS. ... WE DO NOT WANT HILLARY OR ANY CLINTON IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
HILLARY SHOULD DROP OUT & GO AWAY.
Wow!  Does this send the wrong message or what?  The fat cats are now giving instructions to our leaders?  I want to vomit.
The poll results indicate to me a couple of things...

1.  People still have an open mind to Obama (except as Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan seem to still talk about, their constituencies, I guess those folks are close-minded according to Joe and Pat, not me) and that is heartening.  He can still convince them that it's not all about Wright and I am confident he will.

2.  I was right on Hillary's electability.  I, for a few weeks, have found it tremendously ironic and somewhat moronic that the Clintons have focused so much on Obama's electablility.  Let's talk about Clinton's shall we.  Fair is fair.  Her electability is something that brings Republicans out to vote a resounding NO NO NO.  Sounds significant to Dems down ballot running for election in the Fall.

Obama 08
Exactly who are these Clinton super donors who tried to intimidate Speaker Pelosi?

Here's a shocking story that take a closer look...

And, once you've absorbed that, take a look a Hillary's secret church...

looks like clintons wealthy donors are getting a little nervous about their gal getting the nomination, they know obama will make them actually pay their fair share for a change, what a shame that would be, people better realize clintons elegance is not with the american people, she sold out to the corporate machine long ago, she does not intend to get us out of iraq and she doesn't intend to help working americans, she is part of the problem in washington, she offers nothing but 'business as usual' any one that thinks otherwise is being silly
Don't fall for it Madame Speaker. They would do better to demand Senator Clinton to 'retract' her disgusting lies about Bosnia. The nerve of some people.

As to Pastor Bradshaw. We all want America to be blessed. I for one want her to better as well. What is un-American about standing up and admonishing her for the wrong that she has done. As a citizen of this country, who has had family members give their lives for her, as well as, a husband who served nearly 9 yrs. in the American armed forces in service to her, I have the perfect right, and responsibility, to speak out when my country takes a misstep, because I love her, and want her to continue to thrive. Have we forgotten Rome, or Egypt and how they fell. Anyone who refuses to engage our government in a moral conversation over it's policies, and behavior is not a true patriot.

It has been my observation that those who accuse their fellow sister, and brother American, of being 'unpatriotic' with the harshest severity, are the very ones who chose to 'dodge' the draft, (like Bill Clinton), and others like them. Look at the state of our nation after the Clinton, and Bush administrations have had their way with it. Boiling 'patriotism' down to lapel jewelry is a manipulative, evil charge, that won't get a drop of ink on the page of history.

WE NEED A CHANGE. IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

Pulling for Obama '08
Senator Nancy Pelosi is a decent human being, I guess this doesn't sit well with Hillary and her nasty campaign. Hillary's campaign also attacked Governor Richarson because he voted his conscience instead of using his vote for political 'back scratching'. I think it is time someone exposes Hillary's shameful past dealings; she has slung mud at everyone who does not follow her storyline while crying foul whenever her dishonesty is revealed.  The news media is conducting a cover up for Hillary.

Yeah, HRC has been a great 'stewart of the economy' if you call shipping all of our jobs to Mexico and China great!
I'm sure that Nancy Pelosi just LOVES being told what to say and/or do by the likes of Robert Johnson.  WHAT are the Clintons thinking with such an outrageous tactic?  It just gets more and more amazing by the day!  It's going to be kind of  boring after Obama wins the nomination and we don't have "The Amazing Clintons and their Crazy Campaign" to keep us entertained every day!
