Clinton to talk jobs, hit McCain

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
Here are excerpts from Hillary Clinton's speech in North Carolina today where she'll hit McCain and talk about job training.

Of course, the speech as given could include slightly different language, but this gives us at least some indication of where she's heading with her criticism:

Sometimes the phone rings at 3am in the White House and it’s an economic crisis. And we need a president who is ready and willing to answer that call. But I read Senator McCain's plan which does virtually nothing to ease the credit crisis or the housing crisis. The phone is ringing and he would just let it ring and ring.

Senator McCain is a friend of mine but he said himself, “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.” He’d rather ignore the credit crisis and mortgage crisis -- or blame middle class families instead of offering solutions on their behalf.

We've had enough of a president who didn’t know enough about economics, and didn’t do enough for the middle class. I don't think we can afford four more years. I believe we have to answer the call and act aggressively to deal with the housing and credit crises. That’s the kind of president we need after eight years of George Bush.

While we are fighting to create jobs, and keep them here in America, today I’m announcing that I will commit $2.5 billion each year to help workers train for new jobs and improve their skills for their existing jobs as well.

We are competing in a new global economy, but our policies to equip American worker for the twenty-first century are stuck back in the twentieth. When it comes to retraining assistance, our government is more focused on how you lost your job than how you can find a new one. And while we have been rightly focused on trying to help people who are out of work, there’s been too little thought and effort to help people gain new skills while they still have their existing jobs -- so they can move up or move on to higher-wage positions.

I will make Universal Worker Adjustment Assistance available to every single dislocated worker.  No American should feel left behind -- if you are willing to work hard and retrain, we’ll reward your hard work with help getting trained, finding a new job, and making the adjustment to a new field or industry.

We’ll also create new tools and options for you to get job skills or a college education while working. You shouldn’t have to produce a pink slip to get help training for a new, higher-paying job. I’ll create Pell Grants that people can use to retrain and attend college while working.

And the government should not wait until it’s too late to act. I am proposing an innovative new program. It’s called “The Pre-emptive Training Initiative.” When a factory closes its doors, or a plant moves overseas, that’s a shock for families -- and for whole communities. We shouldn’t wait until the lock is placed on the gates to recognize the problem.

WTH Hillary?  Did you forget to mention Jerimiah Wright?  Is Mark sick this morning?
Everybody just calm down!

Obama has MORE pledged delegates, MORE states, and MORE pop vote.  This thing can run to June and beyond and this will not change.  At the end of the "race" he will STILL be ahead in pledged delegates, states won, and more than likely pop vote.  This has already REPEATEDLY been discussed and found to be TRUE.

With that being said, the nominee will have to be pushed to the magic number 2024 by the superdelegates.    The supers WILL NOT GO AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.  They are already coning out and saying that.

Now, the supers are watching EVERY move that these two make.  They have witnessed Billary throw the kitchen sink, endorse John McCain, and throw Bill Richardson under the bus.  They know all about Billary's "35 years of experience".  Her little "sniper-gate" may be news to US, but this is old news to the supers.  They have worked with the CLintons and know how they operate. The Clinton camp spin holds no water with the supers, and her latest "threat" from the BIG MONEY was another BIG MISTAKE.

The MSM and the Clinton stooges claim "the race is virtually a tie", and things are "so close", but the writing is on the wall for all of us to read.  Everyone needs a good story, and we all know this is the most exciting thing to hit politics since the last time the Clintons were in the White HOuse.  The pundits and talking head will talk, but their talk doesn't compete with the math.

Does Hillary have the right to continue in this race?  Yes.

Does she risk destroying the party in the process?  Possibly.

Does she risk destroying her future political career?  Probably.

Now, the supers can see her latest charade of "If I can't win, then neither will He", and they have a plan to end this.  Pennsylvania will be Hillary's Last Hurrah.

So sit back, relax, and watch Team Hillary Self-destruct.

It should be a good show!

Where are the excerpts from Barack Obama's speech on the economy which has been available for hours?
Ummm Hillary, where are you going to get this money?  And besides, President Obama/VP Richardson/Speaker Pelosi and the rest of Congress will have better plans of action; not your heated rhetoric.  And OBTW, stop with the 3 AM nonsense.
Dear Mrs. Bill:
When the phones rings at 3:00 am you know as well as we do that it is a Secret Service Officer calling and telling you Bill has been arrested for possession of viagra without a prescription and was with an underage intern at the time. You of course may not answer it as you are deeply involved in an old John Wayne war movie and waiting to watch a rerun of wonderwoman. Its ok we understand.
It is the people out there who can not discuss this without name calling and hyperbole who are creating the rift in the democratic party. If you do not know enough about the issues, and do not have anything intelligent to say, be quiet. Democrats are driving democrats out of the voting booth.
Chuck - Please post Obama's economy speech along with your pundit comments
you people are so funny and biased.this gives US some indication where she is heading with her critism.?Well cannt get more plain than that I guess.Know what ? Hillary will over come even that. I am glad she is putting ideas out in NC than when Obama blows into state eventually they will see where his ideas are from .Who is the leader now. I wrote that before and it disappeared. Will see if i tmakes it this time.
"Sometimes the phone rings at 3am in the White House and it’s an economic crisis. And we need a president who is ready and willing to answer that call."

So, will you be lucid enough to make a sound judgement at 3am, or will you be "sleep-deprived?"
It's called big (bigger) gov't. Which means higher taxes for every one.  Forever....
Both the ultra liberals want to spend and tax.
Higher state and property taxes too.
Oh, go to bed Hillary, let the damn phone ring. If you answered it you'd find a way to blame someone for the problem.

You need to sleepin for the next four years, take Bill with you, if you can find him, then maybe the rest of us can have some peace from your whiny rhetoric.  We are so tired of you and your antics,
you are so boring.   Why are you still here?
Doesn't anyone cut her a break!!  It's just an ordinary stump speech.  You know, picturing a clueless old guy sleeping with the phone ringing and ringing IS kind of funny.... in a McCain kind of way.
A leader puts out her info and ideas. A wannabe waits destructs and /or copies.Transparency is in the eye of the media I guess. Her side said this. Here are names she used. This will give  US an idea where to go, oh please. He reads a darn script and world does whirlygigs.Says something not only about Obama but his supporters too. Remember blowing nose is reason for rousing round of applause. Even he was embarassed. Give him that.Hillary your great put some to shame.theres time youguys jump on the right wagon.Got the guts??
What economic crisis happens at 3:00am?  For the most part our markets control our economic destiny and they are open at 9:30am to 5:00pm ET if you include the commodities exchange in Chicago.  Even so, one really would not expect the President to be getting a "red phone" call on the economy in the middle of the night.

Stop beating the 3:00am dead horse.
Dear Lord please stop with the 3 am references.
Hillary -
McCain is not proposing to let the telephone ring and ring. He has acknowledged the problems, and is attempting to do more than place a bandaid on the wound to fix it.

Your proposal does not 'offer solutions on their behald'...if freezing the balooning rates is what you are proposing. Obviously these people have not been able to afford their payments, even without them being adjustable, and now the value of their property is rising. The A)problem created a ripple effect and B)the solution will create a ripple effect as well. Because he opposes the 'bailout' does NOT mean that Sen. McCain is unaware or lacks a desire and passion for middle America's prosperity.
As usual, with any FirstRead article re HRC, this one starts with a pejorative comment!: "Here are excerpts from Hillary Clinton's speech in North Carolina today where she'll hit McCain and talk about job training.

Of course, the speech as given could include slightly different language, but this gives us at least some indication of where she's heading with her criticism:"

Which leads to the question, WHY? A question that is beginnig to be answered today in the bloggersphere re FirstRead writers.

Leading me to ask Chuck this further question:  Chuck why in the interest of "full disclosure", as First read and Msnbc have demanded of HRC, have you not disclosed who the majority of Firstread's writers are resume wise?
Many "blogs" are beginning today to circulate the information that ASWINI ANBURAJAN, the one who saw fit to negatively call WJC "Bubba", (IE "McPeak's sharp tongue stabs Bubba") is a full-fleded member of Howard Dean/MoveOn "machine", being an early, dedicated "grassroots" organizer in his primary campaign, and continues a fervent loyalty to him today
In fact, according to bloggers, Murray, Athena Jones, Menoli, etc. are all MoveOn based writers, plying their "partisan trade" here as well as the National Journal, at the behest of Dean and MoveOn.
It now is clear why FirstRead is so negative toward HRC and so favorable toward BHO. Chuck, in fairness I feel it would have been honorable and credible for you to disclose these relationships before the blogs started doing it. We readers, and those who have had faith in you personally, deserve better! HRC readers have a right to expect unbiased reporting, just as Obama suppoters do. If we had more of such re both candidates we might not be in such a deep "mess"! HRC supporters are blaming FirstRead, and MSNBC in general, for a large part of their anger. Just because of such subterfuge.
Bloggers are pointing out the book: "Burning at the Grassroots: Inside the Dean Machine", by Dana Duncan as one source re Aswini Anburajan. There are others including this: thesis by Aswini Anburajan: "Half and Half:The Boundaries of Belonging: Constructing Ugandan Asian Identity"
http://www.watsoninstitute.org/ir/honors.cfm
No wonder their writings display bias instead of journalism. By the way, the day of the "Bubba" article, I wrote in asking Ms. Anburajan why she felt the need for such terminology, naturally my comment did not appear, much less a clarification.
I am also sure this comment/question will not appear either, however, I remain an eternal optimist. That being one reason I so avidly support HRC against all odds, and shall continue to!
comon---where are the reports from andrea about the writings of preacher wright? All about white supremacy, the jews and Israel and the Italians that hung Jesus? Also about the letter written to Pelosi from the big money donors telling her to back off of ending this primary? They are not happy campers with thee wet noodle spined miss nancy and her interference.
According to her she doesn't say the right things when she's sleep deprived. I'm a little weary of her picking the phone up at that time of night.
Hillary, please implement the 'Pre-emptive Campaign Exiting Initiative' instead. You are so tiresome.
Lately I've seen these  so called "polls" indicate American's prefer McCain. And these so called "pundits" stating Obama is losing his white support over Rev Wright.I don't think everyone should put all their eggs in the McBush basket.Don't let the media & polls fool you.Obama has not lost his white support as much as the pundits like us to believe.Although some "whites" might not agree on Obama's choice of pastor or church for that matter, they are smart enough to see through all the smoke & mirrors. Most see in his stance on race & government the apparent authenticy, candor, & transparency that we lack in government. All people would be considered racist if we adopted "guilt by association." Tell McBush to bring it on in November, he makes Rev Wright look like an angel
Where does Hillary get her "economic" experience? Same place she got her sniper-fire? Can't say I'm very interested in ANYTHING she has to offer these days.
####News alert### ...everyone is on board to do new election in Michigan, except senator Obama. Why does he refuse to do a "fair" new election ?
Hillary Clinton campaign is low on funds and she expects us to believe she could run the economy of this country even though she can't run the finances of her own campaign. Hillary Clinton has fooled so many people especially morning the big head joe. But she is really someone who speaks and think as a D- average student. Hillary says Obama had a choice to choose his pastor and she would have left the church but she chose Bill Clinton as her husband and chose to stay with him after he embarrassed her in front of the entire world. Talking about calling the kettle black!
This is more spin,To all the real people that have seen your jobs go overseas you have only one person to blame.Hillbilly fought hard to pass N.A.F.T.A.Did she care about you then,i think not .What makes you think she cares now." our policies equip american workers for the 21st century are stuck back in the 20th century"Hillary, you and Bill are the one to blame.Est 3 million jobs so far.  OBAMA 08
not too long ago Hillary promised New yorkers that she would create thousands of jobs we all know what happened now she is down in north carolina talking about spending billions to retrain people where is she going to get all this money?
Good speech and good ideas.  This race is still a tie.  Neither candidate has 2025.  There are still 10 primaries to go.  Let these people vote and then lets see where the race stands.  Then, and only when all primaries are done, should the super delegates make their choices.  The idea that there should be only one candidate to choose from is ridiculous.
What kind of economic crisis occurs at 3:00 am? Did the all night diner run out of coffee? Instead of waiting for the phone to ring at 3:00 all of those years (Bill saying he'll be home a little late?), why didn't you (Hillary) work on keeping NAFTA equitable for Americans? You know - all those people in Ohio that you lied to and are now without jobs.
She's still talking about 3am?  The mainstream media has GOT to put a stop to this.  Her vaunted "experience" is based on three things:

1) stretches
2) lies and
3) creative resume writing
Wait, I thought Hillary and Bill have endorsed John McCain. I'm confused.
WOW!  Now thats an economic development plan.  I believe what Hillary was trying to say was:

John McCain FORGOT MORE ABOUT ECONOMICS THAN I(Hillary) WILL EVER KNOW!

Oh, by the way, my campaigns running a little short, could you send me a check.
Will someone please define Hillary's version of "ready?"  Is she as "ready" to fight for the economy as she was the sniper fire?  She is just unbelievable.
I hope MSNBC is planning to interrupt this speech the way they interrupted Obama's. BTW, why give Bush's propaganda speech this morning so much coverage? He wasn't saying anything new.
Another 3 am moment?  I thought she said the other day she 'misspeaks' when she is sleep deprived.  Why would you want to ask this liar aything at 3 am.  She might send you to Bosnia under fire like she obiviously was willing to take her daughter...then deny it later.
An economic crisis at 3AM? What is that? A power outage at Dunkin' Donuts? Starbucks' employees go on strike? Why  do you let her get away with this nonsense?
By comparison, Obama's speech was more relevant, more comprehensive, more topical...  He is someone I trust to steer the economy in the right direction FAR more than Hillary Clinton.

... besides, I can *believe* what he has to say.

Clinton has SHOWN that she will throw a former ally under the bus.  What makes workers and unions believe she will do any different to them once Pennsylvania votes?

Those who place their trust in this woman are deluded.
Please, Democrats, let us cool our jets.  If you study the policies, Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama are not that far apart.  Yes, there may be some slight differences, but, essentially, they are nearly identical.  That said, unless you specifically do not agree with their individual policies, as a Democrat, there is no reason not to vote for one candidate over the other.

Yes, I have a preference in the race.  Should my preference not be nominated, I will vote for the other, as a Democrat.  There is too much riding on this election to blindly give Bush III another term out of spite.

Let Reason Prevail!
the phone rings 3am, HILLARY, it is the IRS.
"tell them I am on the other line with my lawyer,
because I goy my subpoena to the Peter Paul,
lawsuit case."
Hillary you be careful with what you promise.  I remember in a debate you said you once promised the people of New York (X) amount of jobs, and when asked why there was infact a decrease is jobs your answer was...We'll I thought Al Gore was going to be President.  ps. I love how you presented this answer.

Hillary please please step away.  McCain is actually looking impressive theses days. Atleast with McCain we can be sure that he will keep the failed policies of George Bush.  With Hillary she'll make a promise and pray that she can find a scapegoat.
After all the harm The Clintons have done over the
years, to everybody, it's just delicious to watch them
flail and flop in their death throes.
Here's the problem with Hillary Clinton.  She just doesn't get it.  She wants to create yet another big government program and throw lots of pandering money around in an effort to sound like she cares.  The problem is throwing around billions every year for retraining is NOT going to solve the problem.  It's like putting a bandaid over a compound fracture.

Retraining would be fine IF there were jobs out there that were vacant.  But businesses aren't having trouble finding workers, there just isn't enough work with the way the economy is today.  You can retrain someone to death, it won't help.  We've done it for DECADES now.  People lose a job, get retrained, lose that job, get retrained, lose that job, over and over and over.

Retraining is NOT the answer.  You need to CREATE JOBS.  You know, the thing you promised to do in upper New York, but didn't and blamed it on Gore for losing.  Training people for jobs that simply aren't there won't do a thing.

This country has the 2nd highest tax rate on businesses in the world, only behind Japan.  Businesses leave this country because of that, taking our jobs with them.   Reducing the business income tax rate in this country would give incentive for businesses to relocate back to the US.  By having lower tax burdens they'll lower prices simply based on competition.  Since they'll have lower costs, they'll lower their prices to remain competative.  By having companies move back to the US, it will create more jobs, which will create more income among the working class, which will create more income tax revenue to the government to offset the taxes lost from the businesses.

Taxing business is not the way to go.  They simply pass that cost on to us, or move overseas.  If you removed all business income tax, you would have businesses flocking back to the US, just as you have them moving from one state to another to benefit from the lower taxes in one state over another.  The amount of job creation would be massive.  While complete removal of business income taxes most likely won't happen, tax breaks would.

Tax incentives for US based businesses is the best way to go at this point in time.  It would create more jobs, which would create more economic activity, which would create more jobs, etc.
Ooooh! I will fight for you! What does McCain know about sniper fire! I was in battle fatigues and even rescued a the POW in Bosnia! All McCain did was get himself caught!
Its time to get out the Ten pound bag, as the five pound er is over flowing with pure garbage. Nothing being or having common sense is offered. Clinton's only thrive on scandal, as that is all their experience they can produce,, their not electable and the people have seen they offer nothing ""expect self serving agenda!
hillarys not destroying her future in fact shes setting it up.
step 1 kneecap the dem party then yell disenfrancizement and leave the party.
step 2 run as an independent in the general.
step 3 do what ever it takes to win the general then assure her place in histroy as the founder of a new third party.
step four assume complete control of the third party.
"The supers WILL NOT GO AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE."

So, A Good Show, that means Kerry, Kennedy and Patrick all from Mass where Hilary won by a wide margin will vote for Hilary and Bill Richardson will vote for Hilary since she won NM? They've already gone against the will of the people by their endorsements.
Penski and Wolfi know how to read the polls, those negatives are as a result of attcking Obama.  Hopefully she will get the hint and go after the ultimate opponent like she should have done in the first place, McCain.  She should really just give up because there is no strategy she can employ to overtake Obama.
A good speech, better than Obama's copied & rehashed economic plan from who else? HILLARY!

Go HILLARY! The only solution to all the crises we have today!
She is backing off the 3'am security call? Not so fast, she supported NAFTA also, conclusion:
she cannot take the 3'am phone call for security.
She cannot take the 3'am phone call for the economy.

What can she do finally? Lie probably.
OK. Now where's the Obama economic speech???
