Clinton to talk jobs, hit McCain

Posted: Thursday, March 27, 2008 11:12 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
Here are excerpts from Hillary Clinton's speech in North Carolina today where she'll hit McCain and talk about job training.

Of course, the speech as given could include slightly different language, but this gives us at least some indication of where she's heading with her criticism:

Sometimes the phone rings at 3am in the White House and it’s an economic crisis. And we need a president who is ready and willing to answer that call. But I read Senator McCain's plan which does virtually nothing to ease the credit crisis or the housing crisis. The phone is ringing and he would just let it ring and ring.

Senator McCain is a friend of mine but he said himself, “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.” He’d rather ignore the credit crisis and mortgage crisis -- or blame middle class families instead of offering solutions on their behalf.

We've had enough of a president who didn’t know enough about economics, and didn’t do enough for the middle class. I don't think we can afford four more years. I believe we have to answer the call and act aggressively to deal with the housing and credit crises. That’s the kind of president we need after eight years of George Bush.

While we are fighting to create jobs, and keep them here in America, today I’m announcing that I will commit $2.5 billion each year to help workers train for new jobs and improve their skills for their existing jobs as well.

We are competing in a new global economy, but our policies to equip American worker for the twenty-first century are stuck back in the twentieth. When it comes to retraining assistance, our government is more focused on how you lost your job than how you can find a new one. And while we have been rightly focused on trying to help people who are out of work, there’s been too little thought and effort to help people gain new skills while they still have their existing jobs -- so they can move up or move on to higher-wage positions.

I will make Universal Worker Adjustment Assistance available to every single dislocated worker.  No American should feel left behind -- if you are willing to work hard and retrain, we’ll reward your hard work with help getting trained, finding a new job, and making the adjustment to a new field or industry.

We’ll also create new tools and options for you to get job skills or a college education while working. You shouldn’t have to produce a pink slip to get help training for a new, higher-paying job. I’ll create Pell Grants that people can use to retrain and attend college while working.

And the government should not wait until it’s too late to act. I am proposing an innovative new program. It’s called “The Pre-emptive Training Initiative.” When a factory closes its doors, or a plant moves overseas, that’s a shock for families -- and for whole communities. We shouldn’t wait until the lock is placed on the gates to recognize the problem.

If Obama can't take a punch in the primary maybe he should drop out and find a different occupation.

Maybe these superdelegates will lean on McCain to go easy on their man.  Yes, let's make it a gentle election campaign.  Let's forget about the Obama racist ties to Wright and the rest of his blunders as well as his wife's.

As for the the sick posts above - get a life.
Frank is right. Everytime she talks about her plans, they make great sense, but they are so big, can we afford them? If she can honestly say she can get them past congress when the nation is already committed to a war, then President Clinton go ahead. But like her healthcare, I don't think she can. President Obama, you were saying?
You men just can't stand to see a strong highly intelligent independent woman have power and run this country to put it back on the right track, can you?  Sad very sad.
Obama is supported by the Democratic Establishment - and yet his disciples think he's an "outsider."
ROFL

Obama is the ONLY Democratic candidate to claim Bush and Cheney have NOT committed impeachable offenses - more proof Obama is the DC insider candidate.
It's 3AM and it's Monica on the phone.  Her house is being forclosed on and wants to know what it will take to get some help. :-)
I have a bachelors degree. I worked for IBM for 7 years. I have been out of work since 2003. Hillary, exactly what training do I need to compete?
the phone rings 3 am, HILLARY, it is the IRS.
"tell them I am on the other line with my lawyer,
because I got my subpoena to the Peter Paul
fraud case."
I'm tired of "my friend" John McCain.  Is that going to be Hillary's platform?  I hate to run against my friend, but I have to?  Can you imagine all of the quotes and stuff the Republicans will be running to show that the Clintons support McCain?
AGAIN with the 3 AM story?  It was more fun when she was repeating the sniper fire story.

Here we have a very wealthy person, who has no clue what it's like to live the life of us middle and low income families, who can round up 20 of the richest people in this country and get them to send a threatening letter to Speaker Pelosi.   Well, maybe she can get all of her SuperDoners to cough up the money to back up all of her grand ideas.

Meet the Super Doners
Take a closer look at these 20 individual:

Marc Aronchick
Clarence Avant
Susie Tompkins Buell
Sim Farar
Robert L. Johnson
Chris Korge
Marc and Cathy Lasry
Hassan Nemazee
Alan and Susan Patricof
JB Pritzker
Amy Rao
Lynn de Rothschild
Haim Saban
Bernard Schwartz
Stanley S. Shuman
Jay Snyder
Maureen White and Steven Rattner

All of these signers are multi-millionaires, with most worth in the hundreds of millions.  A few of these signers are billionaires.  Many of these donors have had previous positions in the Clinton Campaign. Mark Lasry is a security trader who put Chelsea Clinton on his payroll.  Stanley S. Shulman was on the board of Newscorp for 22 years.  Sim Farar was a Representative to the United Nations.  But for the purpose of this diary, I am going to highlight in detail the records of 4 of the donors on this list that I think best represent who these donors are, and why they are a threat to the Democratic party.

Hillary reminds me of when I was in 6th grade. There was an 7th grader running for Class President. She promised us everything from longer recess to hot lunches, we ate frozen ham sandwiches for lunch. So, we all voted for her and from that year to the day I graduated we still had 10 min recess and frozen lunch. That is Hillary right now, empty promises.
It's nice to see Hillary giving her 3:00AM routine to a Republican instead of someone in her own party---but I think it's time to realize that when it's 3AM at the White House and the phone rings, she won't be there to answer it...
The sad thing in all of this is that it doesn't really matter in the long run, if the Democrats keep fighting the Republicans stand a good chance of keeping office.  The question here is can this Country of ours stand another term of Republicans in office??  Is it what you really want??  The middle class will die out eventually, that seems to be the plan.  Forget health care, people with money don't really care if we have health insurance or not.  Forget Social Security, the Republicans really don't care if Social Security goes under, if they did, they'd quit milking it to death.  As for the war, it will continue until retaliation reaches our shores.  It is sad that such a great Country will continue it's petty fights and arguments to the detriment of everything our forefathers fought to give us.  These Candidates need to quit trying to impress us and give us some real information.  What are you going to do for this Country?  How are you going to go about fixing all that has been destroyed during the last 8 years??  How do you plan on attempting such a fix??  We need much more than promises; our Country is falling apart around us and no-one seems to notice or care, if they did, we would all band together and demand that something be done, after all, isn't this supposed to be a Government of the People, By the People and For the People?  This means that we need to hold the Politions accountable for what they do or don't do before it is too late!!  The fact that all they can do is throw jabs at each other like school kids tells me that neither is the Candidate for me and yet I much choose one, so tell me what you are going to do for this Country to try and mend what has been done, don't give me empty promises because it's what you think I want to hear.  Make it realistic, we know you will face opposition, what will you do about it!!  Give me something real, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO PUT THIS COUNTRY BACK ON TRACK AND GIVE US BACK OUR CREDABILITY AS THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH!!!!!

HILLARY IS SO VERY WRIHGT ON McCAIN THE LAME!
great job hillary tell them like it is ,the guy from chicago would pick up the phone and say like he did here over 100 times and say "present"
